That's really cool ! I've used the name Aendyr a few times across MMOs that I've RP'd in but they've never really had any sort of relation between them except for always being wizards. Original namesake was from an old DnD character I had who was also a Wizard (diviner technically) and I really liked it so I just kept using it when I needed a name for a mage character in a game.
It's cool that you guys have a lot of thought put into it though. I have been thinking of doing some xiv roleplaying lately and while I've had a lot of thoughts about my own characters' personality/background it's still daunting to actually make it 'permanent/official' instead of just the odd thought here and there.

It's really hard to start up RPing though since I'm nervous. I don't think I'd be able to pickup RP or do it with strangers at all for a while but I know two people that would probably RP with me if I asked them to so that I could get more comfortable with it. Last time I did was like...late mists of pandaria in wow.

One thign I dislike about both online pnp RPing and in-game RPing is that people are usually very measured and slow with their responses so sometimes a simple conversation can take an hour or two. I had multiple online dnd sessions kinda die out because of this thing.

I think the slowness to respond comes from not wanting to fuck up with a typo and end up looking dumb.
Personally I prefer pen and paper because it lets you be more ambitious than most games will allow these days. It's one of the things I miss about more open ended MMOs from days gone by. Say I wanted to be an evil warlord. I could run out to an npc castle, clear out a room for myself, wait for respawns and when the intrepid adventurers come to find me square off in some open pvp. Made for a fun experience. Can't replicate that because of instancing/ques.
Also, generally nobody wants to ever lose in a confrontation so without a clear way of resolving conflict like, dice for example, people will just escalate in a "my dad can beat up your dad" kind of way to keep from losing.

I was actually talking with Rin today how modern MMOS have like, every corner of most maps filled with quest NPCs and mobs and stuff so that it's very hard to find private areas to RP in where you don't have to continually clear out respawning badguys or NPCs just sitting on all the benches and tables.
It'd be nice if there were seperate 'RP channels' where there were no npcs or mobs that were entirely populated by in-character players. There's be a lot more use out of the overworld that way instead of 95% of RPing congregating in cities.

There's that, and there's that in XIV even monsters that are decently below your level can take more than one cast to kill, and cast times are so slow. It's just tedium that kind of takes you out of the scenario. I used to RP in wow in dire maul sometimes and the occasional ogre or hyena would wander through, and it's like yeah you can just Fire Blast them but if it's during a tense or emotional scene it kills the tension for a second.

Does this game get fun? It feels very.... tedious. Having to travel and use a map that tells you "WESTERN SUCH AND SUCH" and "EASTERN SUCH AND SUCH" But doesn't actually tell you how to get there, so a lot of my time is spent figuring out how to get there. And then there are some quest that you can't even do unless you're a certain level. SO... after figuring out where I need to go and making to that point and having a NPC tell me that my level is too low... WHY THE FUCK DID YOU GIVE ME THE QUEST IN THE FIRST PLACE?!?!? This fucking dumb. That's why you have people looking for shit and forgetting that they already have the fucking quest sitting in their quest log (not visible). I know the combat isn't action base so there's no point in complaining about that. But the progression in this game is really boring at low levels, especially all of the city quest that have you turning on lights or some shit.
But what I DO like are the field event thingies. It's immersive as hell. You get to that point and see a strong warrior all by him/herself trying to take on too many enemies which leads to them nearing death, but you arrived just in time to save them as a healing class. I must say, for the people who have been playing this game since the beginning this probably wasn't so immersive since everyone was doing them. But now that most people are higher level and lower level area have less players these battles feel more engaging. Like, I completely forgot I was playing a healer until I meet someone during one of these events and went "Oh wait, I need to heal that warrior, not attack the enemies." because I've been playing alone. But at the same time I have to skip some of these events because there aren't many players in my area. Also the music is good.

This is probably bait/pasta but ill reply. Nobody knows what the fuck you're talking about. Clicking a quest shows you the zone and the EXACT location in the zone where the quest objective is. Quests do not auto hide unless you have a ton of them active, and you can just choose which ones you want showing in your journal. Honestly this game has one of the most friendly UIs in the genre, so I can't imagine how you'd act playing some silly Chinese/Korean F2P game.

Put it this way; when you click on the locator you're expecting to see a point of interest (ex. red circle) in a suggested section. Sometimes the game does not do that. What it does is it shows a world map (not really a world map, just a large area with many different locations). And then you have to manually click on those sections and find what you're looking for rather than the game already doing it for you. I'm not on my desktop atm, sorry.

To add to >>170873634 if you don't mind leveling LTW up a bit, you can use the Alumen to make Aldgoat Leather which is another lower level crafting mat not easily obtainable. Plus, the Aldgoats you would need to kill for the skins are in the same zone as Alumen.

Lots of fun until you wise up and start noticing how SE cuts corners or how they make weird ass decisions with things like housing, glamors, and hunts etc.
Then you start to slowly get annoyed every time they take 2 step forward and 1 step back. Eventually the game becomes a glorified chat/erp room until a patch/expac adds enough new things to amuse you until the nexy one, or you quit.
Basically its good to buy "now" since by the time you start to run out of stuff worth doing the expansion will come out to keep you busy.
