Combat Width is how many regiments can stand in a row, not counting flanking.

So with 22 combat width you can have 22 Infantry/Cavalry in the row, and then some extra regiments on each side depending on the flanking range(different for cav and depends on tech).

If you have 22 combat width you can have 22 infantry and then 4(2 on each side) cavalry flanking.

Combat width is pretty much what you say, yes.

Early game match your enemy's width with infantry and add 1 cavalry at each end for flanking. Enemy has 10? You take 10 infantry with a cav at each end for max shock damage.

Never let your enemy flank you and remember, if an enemy's combat width is 22 and he has a 50 stack he can only face you with 22 at a time (not counting cannons, just talking early game for now)

For Vanilla:
Your best (but least interesting) bet is to ally with Germany and let them deal with France. Send some units with them in Barbarossa but by and large pump out doomstacks of Subs/Naval Bombers + fighters to control the Mediterranian.

Build Mot/Mech/L-Arm (Cav or L-Inf at the very least) and run amok in Africa. Suez should be your priority, after that mop up the Levant. Push out from Ethiopia and start capturing any ports where they can bring in supplies from the Indian Ocean.

If your a madman then capture North Africa and dig in wherever you feel secure to prevent any Allied units from coming up from the South and then push your forces up through Persia into the Soviet Union and India simultaneously.

can you annex Persia in HPM like you can with Egypt? or you can only make them your puppet?

If it's flanking, yes. Early game you only need 2 cavalry to flank due to their range. 14 infantry and 6 cavalry will get chewed up when facing 22 infantry simply because the cavalry take damage in both phases but only deal damage in 1.

Thats why you build for only 1 phase. Besides, early game fire damage is negligible. Next to nothing. You can phase the units out but at the begining cav does more damage in 1 round then infantry does in both. This is assuming you have a shock general though. If you roll a 4 fire obviously youll want to go for a more infantry based build.

Italy's IC is shit though. From what year to about what year should I start building factories? Because as it stands now I can't shit out the neccessary troops. My plan is about as follows

Can I punish a colony or react at all to high liberty desire? I am playing a multiplayer game with a few friends, and one player lost his original country (Sweden) and decided to play as one of my colonies. I have never played as a colony but he somehow pushed the liberty desire to 50% from 20% and allied almost every power in the game (Russia/Austria/Spain/Ottomans + maybe Portugal) that isn't my ally. I feel like I can't interact or do anything about it and if he wanted to he could just sit there and not declare war even though I'm getting no tariffs. Can I force a war or something?

Just play something in scandinavia if you want to play as snowniggers, you just need to start somewhere and then you can expand wherever you want. The naval aspect of this game is so undeveloped that playing on an island doesn't feel any different than playing on the continent (unless you're an early game christian because for some reason they get access to boat tech later).

You can occupy the country and let people revolt(their militancy will skyrocket). Then you can just kill the rebel stacks and thus kill the pops. But unless you have good military technology, you will have a lot of deads from your side too, I did this too UK once, playing as Japan, after many failed invasions I finally succeeded and occupied UK for some years. I had 1 million rebel stacks everywhere, I started killing them and in two years UK had lost about 5 million pops.

Converting is a bitch though. Convert a province 3 times and you still get 30-40% of the population being heathen shitbags.

well, from my understanding the paragay war was a "genocide" because the paragays were conscripting alot of people , and at the end of the war they were basically sending children to the war. it give a bonus to mobilization to paragay and a malus to organization.
