Yes, but not in any way visible in 3-dimensional space. By connecting two points of previously separate space, portals act like wormholes bending spacetime to meet.

By moving one portal differently than the other, the two areas of spacetime on either end move relative to one another, so if an object passes from one frame of space that is moving quickly compared to the frame it moves into, the object will continue to move quickly until acted on by the new frame it's in.

That said, portals completely fuck the laws of thermodynamics.

Well, it's mostly conveyored. As for floorplan, there's central hub module, raiding outpost underneath, lemon module on the side and minelayer + 2nd raiding outpost on the back connected in the most autistic possible manner. Carriages are just cargo + thruster pods. All of interiors are a complete mess.

So I was the person who discovered and posted this years ago, was the greatest feeling watching it grow into some kind of supermeme, but did anything useful or interesting ever come out of it? I know that week there were turbine engines made with it, but for the most part people were just cutting the power with swivels and not using the full power since nobody could find a way to contain it.

It begins? Progress is still pretty slow, but it's going. Still not entirely sure where this thing is going. No idea how many decks it'll have, or how long it should be, or even how many guns I want. Also still need to figure out what I'm gonna stick behind the bridge. Ideas?

I set off wanting to make a frigate type vessel, but every time I make a bridge it just grows and grows and before I know it I have something more suited for a battleship or something, so now I'm just embracing it. So, I'm currently considering having two or three sets of the big gun in pic related, with maybe a mirrored set on the underside. Also planning to set up a bunch of the broadside turrets that are part of the pack the big gun is in, and just have a bunch of those along the sides all on one deck, or maybe two if I want it to be larger.

There's also some other neat smaller caliber guns, and some even smaller caliber defense turrets, so I'm gonna definitely set some of those up too. I love seeing a big warship engage with all its guns, so that's basically the driving idea behind this thing right now. Hopefully I can make it work out how I envision it.

I know that feel my dude. What helped me was making a boundary box around my ship and forcing myself to fit everything inside it.
However, that bridge is kinda big, I would say destroyer, cruiser sized even. So again, speaking from experience, just designate the area for the bridge, but build the rest of the ship first, and make the bridge fit the ship, not the other way around.
Take this advice and do whatever you want with it, and keep us updated with the progress.

Very cool, I knew actual engines were possible but harnessing it is damn near impossible. Turbines like this were all I really managed to use it for, used two of these to make an Osprey chopperplane but can't find the video anywhere.

I also tried for a long time to find a way to apply it to my Scorpion but never found a way.

Honestly, I feel like the biggest reason why my bridge always grows out of control like that is because of how limited you are in placing stuff. It's one item per cubic grid space, so even if something else should also be able to fit in that space, the system is forcing you to build bigger than you want. Of course, I also have a weakness for big-ass starship bridges, so that definitely didn't help.

I do really like what I have so far, and want to see it to completion as my first actual ship. I'll keep in that in mind though the next time I make something.

Also here's a bonus shot of the updated bridge interior. Might end up doing some tweaking later down the line, but it's pretty much where I want it now. Kinda hard to see, but there's also four control stations underneath the glass walkway.

Dunno why, but every time I try to make a sketch, I don't really get anywhere. I find it easier to just experiment in-game with what I want to do until I either find something that works and looks good, or can't get it how I want and try something different.

She grows! Did a lot of messing about with different shapes with the top deck to try and figure out what kind of shape I wanted. Still not 100% sure where it's going in that regard, but I'll work on finalizing the hull shape later once I have everything else figure out.

Played around with some ideas for weapon layouts. The topside quad turret wasn't working out how I wanted since I'm being autistic about trying to set it up so that it can't hit my own ship. Which, doing so has influenced some of the hull decisions I've already made, since I wanted it to be a little longer but the newly side mounted quad turret could hit the nose so I shortened it. But I'm liking it so far, so I'll see where it goes from here.

I'm also coming to realize I should probably start applying some color soon. Everything in default gray is kinda bland and makes everything kinda blend together. Not sure what colors I want though. Will have to give that some thought.

Moving on to my next major design choice. Most recently been messing with where I want thrusters, and I'm trying to decide whether I should include some hydrogen thrusters. Mostly as an emergency thing in case I accidentally into a planet or something, so it'll likely just be limited to forward and upward thrust.

It's been a while since I've seen actual clang (i.e. rotor or piston exploding and destroying everything) and last time it was me fucking up the rotor rotation limits

However landing gears are still fucked, pistons and rotors on a non-static grid will cause your shit to rotate uncontrollably about 50% of the time and locking a landing gear to a planet's voxel surface will cause your ship to lose all of its mass and continually float upwards like a hot air balloon.

Also in more recent versions rotors exist in a quantum state of reality/unreality and phase in and out of the mortal plane with anything that might be attached. Same thing might happen to asteroids, but that's a separate unrelated to clang keencode example.

afaik final game is intended to have mechanics ripped straight out of elite:dangerous. so, in a star system, you can accelerate and then hit a button to unload the physics simulation and go super fast, or you can hit a button to jump to a different system.

Avorion actually has some issues with the huge fights causing extreme lag. Especially the final boss fight causes unholy amounts of lag. I'd wait until theres some magical optimisation update, because koonschi used to put optimisation first and the game runs extremely smoothly still considering the sheer amounts of shit on the screen at any given time.

The main issue is that dogfighting is in large part energy management and getting positional advantag, but that's worth fuckall in FTD physics with FTD guns that can't hit shit. Also having no vertical room is bullshit.

I wish there were a game where you have to explore 2spooky abandoned space ships and stations like the abandoned SCAF fleet in Dead Space 3
Except the difficulty wouldn't be from the enemies, but the environment itself. Trying to explore/salvage a centuries-old ship where most of the systems don't work and half of them are ready to CLANG you to bits if you're not careful in how you navigate the ship

Damn that looks gorgeous. I love the way the stars look in this game.

I also remember the dev stating in one of his videos that every star you see while flying around is somewhere that you can actually fly to. I just hope that we'll have good motivation to actually explore, even if it's not in the game right off the bat. I want many different resources and plenty of use for them, and thus reason to search for them.

But really, the idea was that while you'd start out weaker, eventually every block would gain upgrades far beyond what's currently available, to the point of ridiculousness, essentially adding fun shit in a somewhat balanced way
Besides, having an actual objective to work towards would be fun

And again, I'd still rather the time get spent actually fixing the game anyhow, so calm yer tits on my hypothetical update that'll never happen
