It's DLC, so unless you're Ulysess with his "muh bear muh bull" shit, you should take their status as canon with a grain of salt.

It's downloadable content that you have to pay money for outside of the cash you forked over for the base game, so I always assume a DLC's status as canon iffy no matter the series.

Building a BoS base at the airport and giving BoS gear to all the settlers turned out to be a really good idea. I even managed to fit in a set of believable and functional stairs to the upper level. (And found out that said upper level is connected to the actual BoS base.)

They walk around the whole airport and the nearby ruins, looking and behaving like they belong there. They even use the activity spots at the main BoS base. It makes the whole place feel more lively, and gives a feeling of increased activity, now that the real war for the Commonwealth has begun.
>>
>>170807363
I doubt it happened in the timeline that most of the game follows. There's nothing that actually concludes that the aliens did anything more than mess with the guy who had the launch codes. They could have been trying to stop him.

You can find a log where you hear a guy reluctantly giving out the launch codes, you can't really understand what the aliens are saying though

Its hard to interpretate it as anything else, i mean why would the guy tell them the launch codes if that wasn't what they were aiming at

F1, 2 and NV are only canon Fallouts.
Those shitty 3 and 4 simply do not exist.

I don't get why they had to go after them.

I decided to replay NV just because of those threads, but now that they're only found in /vg/, only people that already wanted to play the games will go through this thread.

Actually you can't because those lines of dialogue don't exist. You can only read them if you turn on the subtitles.
>>
>>170808704
In Nick Valentine's out of place report about the Stranger, he mentions the NCR off the West Coast. Don't quote me on this either, but I think Big MT is mentioned somewhere, too.

>>170808807
Warning, mild autism ahead:

I like to pretend that 3 and 4's locations and overall feel actually exist canon wise, but decide to ignore entirely the awful story and writing of them. For example, Rivet City is a good concept, le giant anti commie robot isn't.

I know this is basically cherrypicking, but if Bethesda can cherry pick what lore to go with and which one not to (See T-60 and Jet), I don't see what's wrong with wanting the Fallout Universe to be more than "lol atom atom atom bomb!".
>>
>>170808962
They were being made too often and people got annoyed with them, as far as I know.

The threads would have kept a good quality if they were done every week or so, but some idiot decided to re-post them every single day.

>[I] decide to ignore entirely the awful story and writing of them.

I see it the same way. Beth's lore is the lore. But I take the details their writers pulled out of their asses with at least a spoonful of salt.
>>
>>170809436
That actually seems fair. It's more of a base of the East Coast to build upon than anything else, like how F1 has become for the West.

Is not actual lore, they are not making new lore themselves either. Its like 3 and 4 are spinoffs.

Look at how the story plays and the elements tied to it, its all Fallout themed but it never feels like it could be part of Fallout, i have this problem too with another game; Silent Hill 4: The Room

In case you haven't played it, there is one zone called Apartment World where the game bombards you with references to SH1 and 2, it tries so hard to be taken as a SH game and the only thing it achieves is to alienate the fans and to feel really fucking out of place. That same feeling is all over FO3 and 4

>>170810940
There are stupid and smart fans of either or both games. Don't take the opinion of one anon and pretend everyone thinks alike

I actually like FO4 for example, i like the gunplay and i was not as dissapointed as say, NV fans, because after Skyrim i knew i could only expect the same thing but with guns

They are evil because the game says so. They are really vague about "improving the commonwealth" as Shaun puts it.

They are a benevolent society of scientists that work for the greater good when you are there and when you are not suddenly they are crazy evil scientists. Also there is a shit ton of things you can find that expose the horrible crimes the Institute has done yet you can't do shit with this information.

Same with synths, i feel like it would've been a more deep moral choice if the Synths DID NOT have free will, because then it would be the equivalent of shooting a rabid dog with a shit owner

Anyone mind sharing their FCO female/male raider textures? Mine keep missing hands and I can't seem to fix it by reinstalling or applying updates
>>
>>170830862
Except for supermuants and the whole kidnapping thing.

If the institute instead captured raiders for their supermutant experiments and did not release them onto the surface and if the institute built experimental farms with an all synth workforce instead of kidnapping farmers to replace them with synths who plant crops, institute would easily be one of the most innocent of factions in the wasteland. There's no way to point out how stupid those two decisions were so they're relegated to mostly evil.

>>
>>170807363
We have already been opver this you massive idiot.

The log has no VA for the human voice, thus making what he "said" not in the game, and thus, non-canon.

Not to mention, as was pointed out many times before, thats not how launching nukes works. You don't just get one set of codes and then hit fire.

Fuck dumb people
>>
>>170811091
>but it never feels like it could be part of Fallout,
Having been a fan of Fallout since the first game can out, I don't agree.

It no more feels like it could never be a part of Fallout then New Vegas's claims of "everyone in the western U.S. outside of the relatively small area the NCr covers has achieved literally even less then the East Coast, and are nothing but spear chucking tribal groups.

Different regions, different challenges, different progression, that is how the real world works.

Not everything would, could, or even should, be like the NCR.

>>170831204
>Except for supermuants and the whole kidnapping thing.
Which the game also makes clear is something only a few in The Institute know about, and even other division heads like Doctor Li don't know about it.

That's a few people in The Institute being dicks, not The Institute as a whole.

>I guess i was buttmad that you can't talk to Super Mutants, they are just orcs.
Even if they weren't just orcs you wouldn't be able to talk to them because they, as a species, have no reason to want to talk to you.

Same with raiders.

Raiders who fucking purpose in life is to raid, they have no reason to stop and shoot the shit with you, you, who is a target to raid.

Only in rather extreme circumstances, like some of Nuka world, would raiders NOT just shot you on sight and try to take your shit, as raiders do.

Exactly like the Jackels and Vipers in the Vegas region, or the White Legs of Utah
>>

>>170834313
>>
>>170834330
Well i'm a bit austistic you could say about that kind of stuff. Sure, i do love having enemies to shoot and shit, i love me a good gunfight

But the fact that you can't talk to anybody is mindboggling to me, i wish you could at least talk with a Super Mutant (Vergil doesn't count as he hasn't been a Super Mutant for long and Strong is just an unnagressive Super Mutant, although i do like that he takes the Shakespeare excerpt in a literal sense) or a Raider to find out what do they want, are they trying to survive or they are just token bad guys?

There are some terminal entries where raiders explain their everyday life, that would've been so interesting to learn about by talking to them
>>
>>170834330
It'd be nice if you could join a raider clan in the base game though.
>>

>>
>>170834797
>But the fact that you can't talk to anybody is mindboggling to me
You mean, of those factions? Because you can talk to a lot of people in the game.

>and Strong is just an unnagressive Super Mutant
And why does that not count exactly?

>or a Raider to find out what do they want, are they trying to survive or they are just token bad guys?
What they want, and why they do what they do, IS explained in the game.

Pay attention to what they say.

Super Mutants believe themselves superior to mankind, and despise mankind for creating them, and so, seek to prove their superiority, and get revenge on the humans who created them, by killing humanity.

Raiders raid because they don't want to put the hard work into farming, and find it easier to just take shit from others.

You know, the same reason the White Legs, Vipers, and Jackals raid people.

Not a big mystery, and this is shit they themselves say in quips, and are told to you by various NPCs.

What about a bar that is explicitly listed as neutral ground, like the Combat Zone, or the horse track, or Evergreen Mills?

Raiders are human beings, and not even particularly divergent or tribalistic human beings. Most of them are just people from cities and settlements looking to make some money or jet. It's not like robbers in the Wild West would attack anyone they saw at any time.

None of those are netural ground.

There is another super mutant who is passive in Far Harbor, Erickson, he raises dogs and acts as a trader, certain companions have dialogue with him, also while the raiders don't talk to you there are some really intereresting side conversations they have if you sneak up to them, in hardware town if you enter through the back two of them talk about how you haven't come in yet and they go back and forth with one shooting the other in the end, another two by the loading dock talk about a guy who threw rocks as grenades making the noises with his mouth and then pretended to get on a motorcycle to get away, I know it's not a conversation with them but you can still learn about them, it's weird how much effort Bethesda put into things like that which 95% of player wont hear since they'll barge in guns blazing, but it's those exact things that make me love the games so much.

Adds some shelving and clutter to make it look more "lived in". (Recommended)

I actually meant to remove the basement. Forgot it was even there, honestly.

>Snappy House Kits
This is only 1 piece that isn't very noticeable. Totally fine to not have.

Also requires Contraptions, Far Harbor, Wasteland Workshop, and Vault-Tec Workshop

Note: This version has 17 beds. Probably going to start working on adding some more beds soon, as I've hit 17 settlers.

I swear the best storytelling Bethesda does is their terminal entries, notes, and random dialogue, the most enjoyment I've gotten out of any of the games stories has been the stuff that's optional, easy to miss even, the best single one is in honest hearts though. The thing is it's not just notes and dialogue, Springvale with the children's skeletons in the bomb shelters are another example, but anyway it sucks that this stuff is easy to miss if you mess up the triggers or loose stealth and it's weird that the writing there is better than dedicated quests
>>
>>170849882
The best part about that guy is that there are like 4 different stories you can hear about him from raiders around the commonwealth. I know the Hardware Town one always happens then/there, but not sure if the others happen in a specific place or randomly.

>>170851876
Randal Clark is amazing and his story is tragic and beautiful, I love the stuff like him. Honestly I would love a fallout game with little to no quests but a really well made world with tons of little side stories to read about or find after the fact, maybe some where you participate but have them be more organic, I'd take a well done reactive world over one with quests hands down. Still have town for trading and the like but remove all the saving the world stuff, make the world not centered around you

>>170817365
Very good. The guy polished it before release. Only major bugfixing I've seen was for robot settlers and child settlers, compatibility with mods and DLC. He also appears to have the framework in place for people to make their own versions using his mod as a master.

I almost didn't want to download it, because it's going to get updated and I'll have to reinstall it.

Only downside is that currently the system that tracks upgrades requires that settlers are 'employed' at one of the industrial/commercial/agricultural plots. So if you take someone off to farm specific crops that you plant manually, work a specific store type or work defense, they don't count toward employment. At least not right now, I think.

A security plot would be a nice add-on. The guard drains caps as payment, but builds up his own guard post with turrets and traps or something. The mod author did mention setting up an armory system as a special unlockable upgrade that would gradually upgrade the weapons and armor settlers used, this is detailed in one of his vids, but I get the impression that is not the highest priority for his plans to update the mod. It's worth checking out and keeping an eye on. I'd be surprised if Beth didn't copy his idea for Skyrim 2.
>>
>>170853396

also he asked everyone to help too on improve the system

things like snap and build would be great for this mod.
>>
>>170853786
I'm looking forward to the progress of this mod. It's a framework. The author has plans to integrate settler naming, unique job types, integrate his salvage beacon mod and other shit.

There are a small number of autists that really enjoy settlement building and have created really cool small builds that they show off on leddit and ytube. Copying some of their designs and adding them to the mod would be fantastic. The base mod is just Vanilla, no DLC, so integrating shit from other mods and DLC will be cool to see.

The only potential stumbling block I see is with the Raider settlement system.

My larger point was that it doesn't make sense for those to not be neutral ground. Raiders aren't tribals (at least, not all of them), there's no reason for them to be hostile towards "outlanders" at all times. In fact, they can't be since they need to be recruiting outsiders from somewhere.

Also, how do they magically know who is or is not a raider? Or a Triggerman for that matter since they're not actually one unified gang.

Can someone explain Super Mutants in the Commonwealth to me? I mean, just think about the situation economically speaking.
The Institute does not have unlimited resources and no concerns other than sceince; in fact they're quite hard-pressed for resources. The impetus for the whole Institute campaign is how close they're coming to running out of electricity, primarily due to the massive drain that is their teleportation system. The teleporter system takes up a lot of resources to the point that they need a new super advanced fusion generator.

Now, lets think about the process of getting a Super Mutant made. First, Synths must locate a suitable subject on the surface. One teleport to get the synths to the surface. Then, after subduing him, the subject must be teleported into the Institute. That's two teleports. Then, in order to give us the mutants we see in game, the Institute has to telport a Super Mutant to the surface. That's three.

The third time is the most baffling; the Institute derives absolutely no benefit from releasing Super Mutants onto the surface; all they serve to do is make the surface world, and by extension all of the institutes further sorties and research efforts, more dangerous. they could conduct experiments, autopsies, and render them back down into their chemical components. But instead, the Institute uses electricity to send them back up for no reason, scientific or otherwise.

Then, there becomes the problem of numbers; the FEV lab is small. Really small. No dipping vats or means to quickly produce Mutants- just 4 tubes. But lets just write this off as game design.

In order to have produced the current number of Super Mutants in game, the Institute must have made hundreds of them- however, since they've been doing it for a century, they must've made tens of thousands over the years, especially when you consider that Mutants seemingly have no sense of self preservation, so they must have been having their numbers constantly pumped up.

It's funny cause lore wise they shouldn't be shooting on sight either, there are a number of references to them charging tolls, Cambridge has a note with the different rates listed and everything, they should try to extort you for money and if you turn it down then they attack, maybe if you're a stupid high level or in power armor they just let you through. The thing is it doesn't make sense for them to kill literally everyone because they need people to grow food/make things for them to steal/extort, they should be robbers but not crazy kill on sight lunatics, or at least most of them, maybe throw in some groups where they're cannibals or extra hopped up on psycho or something where they attack on sight.

It's not a question of letting them loose. There's no back door out of the Institute to shoot them out of. They have to consciously take every one pf the tens of thousands of super mutants they must've made over the past century, made and installed a courser chip into them, and chosen to use their precious electricity to send them to the surface and, in doing so, making all their future efforts on the surface more hazardous because, again, they rely on scrap from the surface and discuss eventually recolonizing it.

Actually they do.

The Institute fears that the wastelandera paranoia would drive them to unite and attack the Institute, hence why The Institute has done shit like replace the mayor of Diamond City with a synth, and got him to throw the ghouls out in order to split the populace up.

Releasing super mutants ont othe surface gives the surfers something to deal with so they don't have the ability to unite against The Institute.

>young fit men in skirts

This reminds me of another case of storytelling through game mechanics in NV:

Look at how many women are serving in the NCR army. It's never a good sign when a culture sends women into battle. Usually it's a desperation move by groups that have run out of men and are barely clinging on to existence. Most people would rather send old men and little boys to the front, before they risked wasting the lives of young women in battle.
>>
>>170880013
Or, women just wanted to join the NCR.

its post-apoc without all the cultural gender roles from pre-bombs
The first NCR president was a woman
Most woman have had to do all the same work as men in the post-apocalypse
NCR has open recruitment and needs bodies on the ground for its expansion
If NCR loses to the legion they'll become rape slaves no matter what
>>>/r9k/
>>
>>170880157
Which makes absolutely no sense. It would indicate that the population of the NCR is so utterly confused and demoralized, that their women would rather die than have families and live happy lives, and that the men would actually allow such stupidity.
>>
Is there a way to increase the respawn rates of enemies in NV?

I want NCRCF to be a stronghold but it's kind of pointless when nothing ever attacks it
>>
>>170880382
Learn some history. The concept of "cultural gender roles" is modern BS that can only exist in post WW1 Western civilization. No well to do culture or civilization in the history of mankind ever send women into battle. Doing so was always the result of desperation.

NCR army is full of anyone who will join up, because it's a better job than shovelling brahmin shit waiting for the inevitable famines. NCR is overpopulated to shit, they can afford to lose women in combat roles.

Legion uses women as breeding stock, mainly to maintain their future population, and to unify the buttloads of different tribes into one coherent culture through subjugation. NCR doesn't need to do that as their culture is already established and their political culture is spread through economics (and the fact they've been around a few generations already).

Except for the 1000 years or so when Rome was a piddly Etruscan backwater of sheep-fucking "we wuz trojans n shiiet" lupine furfags.

Also the point is wrong that the NCR uses women in its army as an act of desperation, they use women because women as breeders is not important in the least bit to the NCR anymore. Hell if anything NCR was too successful during the 2200's, and overextended in both territory domain, and economic and population sustainability.

>>170881572
>women wanting and being allowed to serve in the military (like in the modern West) is a sign that there is something terrible wrong with your culture.
How so? Because god forbid women can be open to make dipshit decisions for themselves? Note I'm not a proponent of women in the military, but I think if individual women want to they should be allowed to (if they can meet the exact same standards with no bullshit, which almost never happens anyway).

I would personally say redesigned, not only does it add a good bit more than just redone and fixed faces but FCO always just looked weird too me. I wouldn't say uncanny valley but I don't know... over done? Like the author wanted to get so far away from the vanilla potatoes and make it SO REAL and DETAILED they over compensated way too much. Most the screen shots on the page make everyone looked too gaunt and with skin conditions (I mean good god the PORES on some of these people!)

Redesigned I think sticks a little closer to the original feel of the game (it doesn't even touch some npcs) while also adding more flavor and consistency like I said above. Plus you get a few decent lookers in the bunch too.

There's a decent significant difference yeah- 3 adds more and is more detailed though is a bit more tricky to install, but still not hard, as it actually relys on an older version of FCO (though the two still differ a lot).

I personally like 3 better of the two, as I see it as a strict upgrade but I can see how some could prefer 2. It's even closer to vanilla than 3 and -when compared to each other- 2 feels more like a fix and beautifier (it WAS originally called project beauty) while 3 is more an actual "Overhaul" but that may just be personal perspective.

He's actually a good ways into 4, which removed the dependency on FCO and even re-voices a lot of them more questionable to straight up shitter performances in the game. But who knows when the fuck it'll finally be done and released...

I think they are shit because most of them time they cause a buttload of problems, and their aesthetic "improvements" are completely subjective. Some might even change NPC races, or make characters a completely new feel. The issues with them are even stupid considering good face and body textures, with better normalmaps and lighting, does just as much without all the compatibility headaches character overhauls cause.

Also, down to it, it's petty graphicsfags bitching, which I dislike. I also generally dislike ENBs and the like. Stupid aftereffects that look like trash to make graphics "fancy".

>>170884226
I'm not parroting anything. I've made up my mind as soon as Bethesda started to show gameplay on it.

I fucking hate the ME or DA2 formula of RPGs with dialogue wheels and force witty humor. I hate it. I couldn't stand it. Even if the gunplay is amazing and the exploration is satisfying, I KNOW that I can't RP my character the way I want to. I don't need to play the game to know that since I've already heard plenty of people saying that the amount of choices you have to diversify your character are very limited in scope and creativity.
>>
>>170884362
>I've made up my mind as soon as Bethesda started to show gameplay on it.

Again then, why buy it or accept it from someone else? And I agree with you, dialogue wheels are cancer and the character building is limited, but if you go in with the mindset of playing it like Far Cry or something in that vein it's decent. Which is a sad fucking state for a supposed RPG I'll grant you,l I mean there's a reason I went back to NV not long after beating it but it's not too bad desu.
>>

Why are you complaining about Fallout 4, then? Bethesda for all their problems and whatnot know how to make games sell and have legitimately saved the franchise from obscurity as a dead IP.

Why are New Vegas modders all such big NCR dicksuckers? It's been a decade and we still have no serious attempt at recreating the Legion lands Avellone mentioned, where the place is peaceful and full of civilians rather than a bunch of angry soldiers. We don't have any attempts to make Legion sympathetic at all to my knowledge, while every quest or territory mod assumes you'll be hated with the Legion and uses them like Fallout 3 used super mutants.

It's pretty fucking jarring to try to play a big name mod on my Legion run and the game throws me into a pile of Legion faction members, expecting them to attack me when all they do is stare awkwardly.

That's actually really easy. You will need the CK, and simply duplicate an armor and its armoraddon file, select your new mesh in the new armoraddon file, and put that armoraddon link in your new armor's armoraddon section. Its a lot simpler than it sounds, my 2nd tutorial kinda shows the quick process of it all.

100% self taught. I experimented with this shit for a few days and successfully rigged NCR Ranger armor, then a few months later I rigged monsters, and then rigged robot parts. I might sound a bit of a braggart here, but it was so hilarious to me when people were like "You'll never be able to rig robots and deathclaws!" and then I totally did. I remember in this one thread, this guy called me a "dumbass for attempting to rig a robot and how it would never work" and the next post I posted proof that it did indeed work, and it got like 20 replies. Then that dude got assblasted to the max.

It actually feels really good knowing I did all that on my own with no tutorials, despite what some angry lil' girls here said or believed. Feels real damn good.

Nope. Todd has said repeatedly he hated what Obsidian did to the game and that's why Bethesda will never let any other developer make a Fallout game again. He thinks the isometric games are "embarrassing" and official Bethesda documents simply refer to Fallout 3 as "Fallout".
>>
>>170890882
Can't blame him, the isometric games suck. The RPG aspects are fine but everything is awful.
>>
>>170890921

>>
>>170887938
What mod was that? Besides Bullhead added by Trainwiz, which is a NCR city in the eastern Mojave, I don't know of any good new-region mods anyway. Boulder Dome was out of Legion territory for the most part; Denver Dog Town looked like shit, although that mod should have Legion in it.

The main thing is in the Mojave, every Legion settlement is going to essentially be on their military frontier, and anything deep within their borders won't be much fun for a player as there would be nothing to really do as it's stated the Legion secures any area that was worth settling. I suppose you could do something like help the locals stop a deathclaw migration or something, since I assume a big part of the Legion military has been directed toward the Mojave and Utah (Vulpes says Lanius was campaigning in Utah before arriving in the Mojave). But beyond that there isn't much to do without a buttload of work, and good creative writing (something you won't get in mods).

The main problem is The Legion is essentially the Master's Super Mutants from 1, or the Enclave from 2 and 3; the shadowy menace on the horizon that seems unstoppable. In that effect, the Legion's domestic areas were always described as being efficient and stable.

Whereas NCR you could do a place like The Boneyard region, and while you'd have peaceful stable areas, like the Followers University, and the trade areas, there is still potential for having criminal undergrounds and roaming gangs in the region as sources of conflict, which are much easier to design and plan than with the abstractedly great domestic subjugated lands of the Legion.

maybe you should open the archives. F3 was bitched and complained about the same way almost any game is bitched and complained about on /v/ that isn't pedobait weeb-shit.

People actually seemed to have fun with it and most of the negative backlash came when they started to draw direct comparisons to Fallout New Vegas which showcased what Fallout 3 got wrong. But even though F3 had a shit story and many unlikeable characters there was still some potential there because they were obviously heading in the right direction when it came to the basic structure of a "modern" Fallout game that isn't isometric.

I just always thought it was mind-boggling that the Institute went all-in on synth technology and that the humans weren't also creating technology that would protect them if something went wrong inside the institute.

>>170901962
In my head, the headwear on that set of power armor is basically wrapped in some kind of display that offers 360 degree augmented reality view of the surroundings. In fact I see the whole thing as a sealed environment and the "blobbish" upper body style just puts more armor over the head and heart for superior ballistic protection.
You're argument is kinda like looking at the Iron Man helmet and saying he's only got 2 little slits to see out of, so how can he be effective in combat?

>>170902220
The Institute was a faction that I kinda wanted to like on the surface but once you start looking harder you see all the flaws.

The utopian sci-fi veneer is just that, once you get outside the central halls you find rooms that are as grungy and degraded as anything on the surface, they're all just pretending everything is great.

Father is either criminally unaware of what is going on in his facility, a figurehead with no actual control over anything, or most likely is convinced he's smarter than anyone else and can manipulate you just by telling you what he wants you to hear and thinking you won't connect the dots.

Such as him going on about the 'better future for mankind' but you know just ignore the FEV lab where we've been torturing and killing people for decades for no tangible gain. Not to mention how they sneer at the chaos on the surface world when a large part of that chaos is due to the synth raids they perpetuate and the super mutants they created and released.

Then there's the fact that they seem to approach every problem with the intention of finding the most cartoonishly evil method of accomplishing it. Like the slaughter of University Point because the locals didn't capitulate without question the instant the Institute showed up, even though they were in the end prepared to give them what they wanted.

Finally, their end state. The end state for the other factions is accomplishing some goal that changes the Commonwealth one way or another. But the Institute has no real objective. Their end state is to just have the ability to maintain things as they are, puttering along with no real direction tinkering with pet projects that seem to have no real tangible gain.

This is what happens when you put all your points into hard sciences and ignore the soft ones, technical brilliance without ethics, intelligent direction or the ability to interact with anyone.

>>
>>170903083
I wonder if the institute was supposed to be in some kind of state of synth-ception, where they all replaced themselves with synths at some point, and the synths aren't aware of it, and their programming makes it so they can't really do anything new or inspired or truly intellectual. Just a bunch of robot clones with no purpose and no one to give them purpose.
>>
>>170903083
>But what have the Institute achieved...
>Apart from teleportation, artificial intelligence, memory transference, synthetic humans, advanced robotics, advanced bio-sciences and exploration into dark matter technology.
>>
>>170903083
Couple of points. The dirty disused areas of the Institute are old and abandoned areas. They continually expand with new areas.
The clean parts of the institute are new.

The Institutes end goal is to become self-sufficient but with help of the SS they have their other major goal to come back out in the open. To rebuild the Commonwealth co-operatively with Synth labour.

Yes but to what practical application?

Teleportation, great, that's amazing, what are you going to do with it? Oh just enter and leave your secret clubhouse. Robotics isn't that advanced, Gen 1-2 synths seem no more advanced than robots you meet on the surface, certainly not more intelligent, just have their own design. Everything else is only hinted at and doesn't seem that different from what other scientifically advanced groups are working on.

>>170903517
Their stated goal of rebuilding the commonwealth seems to ring pretty hollow when they're responsible for a lot of its current chaos. Synth infiltration and outright synth attacks keep most any cooperation from forming and their being responsible for the super mutant scourge for literally no good reason is a big cause of chaos and destruction on the surface.

They can claim that they want to help rebuild as much as they want but it doesn't change that they're largely responsible for things being so unstable in the first place. I think it's far more believable that they're purposefully destabilizing things so that they can move in and take over once the people are desperate enough.
>>
>>170904185
Here I was thinking mutants and raiders caused the chaos.
>>
>>170904371
Yes, but the mutants are from the Institute.

They made them and then dumped a bunch of them on the surface still alive, then they ran rampant. Raiders at least are humans and other humans are pretty good at fighting them off but super mutants are tough enough that most regular human settlements get steam rollered by them.

The Institute is responsible for introducing them into the Commonwealth and by extension the damage that they are causing, for seemingly no reason as it was entirely within their power to just kill the mutants once they were done with them, but they chose to release them onto the surface.
>>
>>170904579
The more I hear people talk about the Institute, the more I imagine Aperture science becoming a Fallout faction without any of the humor.
>>
>>170904672
Sorta, yeah.

Great technical skills with absolutely no ethical restraint, purposeful direction or strategic planning.

They can answer 'can we do this thing' with a resounding 'yes' but seem to have totally forgotten to consider 'should we do this thing' some point along the line.

Not that they're like this 100%, it seems they actually tried to create the CPG and it fell apart due to other people's infighting, and the broken mask was legitimately an accident, but that really doesn't excuse all the terrible things they do just because a few things people blame on them aren't totally their fault.
>>
>>170904579
Not all mutants are from the institute.
>>
What's the recommended level to start the F:NV DLCs? You should do them in release order right?
>>
>>170903679

coincidentally if the theories are right, Synth shawn it the last and perfect Gen 3 synth made by the institute, a synth who knows the formula to activate the reproducing protocols on any synth.

Synth Shawn is the one that can be 100% human, who can get old and even reproduce and give birth to clean and immune humans, and the reason of why Father asked you to take care of it its because he knows that you can give him something that he never had, which is family.
>>
>>170904185
Practical application? For teleportation? Are you serious? It's a strategic game-changer limited only by range. Synthetic production has potential beyond infiltration and impersonation. Grow spare parts for medical use, be it limitless blood for transfusion, or rejection free organ implants. Upload your memories into a synth so your research and experience can continue after you die, hell, make 50 copies of the next Einstein or George Washington Carver and have them share their knowledge with the next generation of scientists. Cruelty free factory farming; why kill the brahmin when you can just fabricate some steaks? Biosciences was working on sophisticated crop programs for more efficient farming. The dark matter tech they were talking about was the next step up from fusion energy. Not tapping the atom for power, tapping the universe.

If you can't see the the practical application in any of this shit, you need to fuck off to the Congo and starve in the stone age with all the other niggers.
>>
>>170905616

The handful of magical people we see in fallout games are the early specimens in evolution of species to use magic. By the time of elder scrolls, mages are sorta common, but in fallout there's like several total magic users.

Synth shawn is the perfect human replica, the Institute finally perfected the Gen 3 formula by Making a Child instead of an grown up adult, Father decided to Make a Copy of His as a test, he knew that Nate/Nora would look for him and he used the perfected formula to create his young self

he can get older in a slower rate than humans, he becomes stronger and smarter over the time, even more than a human being or even curie, and he can even reproduce, they ended up created the perfect human being, and father gave it to his parents so he can grow up as better person instead of a guinea pig as he would be on the institute.

synth shawn would be 1st and last Proto-Primarch of sorts in fallout, a genetically created artificial human who has the potential of rebuilding the wasteland on his own

not even that guy, but they do plenty of mustache twirling saturday morning cartoon villain stuff.

They had plans to kill that farmer family when it wasn't necessary to.

They disposed of super mutants to the surface instead of just disposing of them when they were made. This even has inconveniences for themselves later so it really doesn't make sense, even from a selfish standpoint.

If they are interested in being a little secluded science community then why do they have roaming synth death squads that roam the commonwealth and disassemble towns and kill the inhabitant to make self repairs. They could just...not do this.

They end up squandering their opportunity to actually improve things, and instead dick around with synths all day. Synths are not an imperative focus, stuff like removing radiation from the environment or making new energy tech or any number of practical things would have been better. But instead they make fake people until their power supply is depleted. This is a visionary failure. The fake animals and food that one lady is working on feel like side projects while everyone goes on about muh synths.

They could have been the best faction to choose since they have capabilities beyond the other factions but instead they spend their resources killing farmer families.

Codsworth is not AI. Curie is a robot waifu programmed by nerds that asks you to put 'her' in a synth body because her research capacity is limited by a robot brain and she is incapable of true scientific discovery. Ada? Could be acting on a revenge protocol programmed by it's creator. Sophisticated machines, they are not AI.
Independent discovery does not invalidate the achievements of other groups making the same discovery.
Dark matter tech is a goal some Institute scientists are working toward. The fact they are looking for alternatives to fusion should illustrate how far they have advanced.
>>170907023
You're confusing ethics with morality. Learn the difference between the two, commie.

Here's an interesting point. The Gunners wiped out the Minutemen without the intervention of the Institute. That was just infighting between surface factions that were vying for power. The Commonwealth would be a shithole regardless of the Institute's activities. The Institute may be selfish and violent, but they have a purpose behind their actions. Those goals elevate them above the typical raider, who is only acting for short term gain.

>They had plans to kill that farmer family when it wasn't necessary to.

Opsec. Remove all trace they were present. It might be callous, but it makes rational sense, from a detached, bureaucratic perspective. They don't know these people, why should they care about them?

>They disposed of super mutants to the surface instead of just disposing of them when they were made.

This is stupid. On a meta level, it was a justification for including supermutants in the game. I'm not going to create a post-hoc justification for poor writing.

>If they are interested in being a little secluded science community then why do they have roaming synth death squads that roam the commonwealth and disassemble towns and kill the inhabitant to make self repairs.

They need resources. Those resources have to come from somewhere.

>They end up squandering their opportunity to actually improve things, and instead dick around with synths all day.

Improve things for who? Institute members seem to be living pretty comfortably. Are you suggesting they owe other people something? Why?

>This is a visionary failure.
A failure of leadership. The director of the Institute has been a little preoccupied, what with terminal illness, creating a new synth and his 'daddy' issues with Kellogg. That may also have influenced certain projects being prioritized or cancelled, such as the cybernetics division, or a focus on synth development so Father could make a child synth version of himself.

>They could have been the best faction to choose since they have capabilities beyond the other factions but instead they spend their resources killing farmer families.

All the factions kill people. The people those factions kill have families. Are farmer lives inherently more valuable than a raiders life? The Institute is pragmatic enough not to waste the lives of their group needlessly while pursuing their agenda; that's what synths are for.

>Artificial intelligence is intelligence exhibited by machines
Codsworth is AI. Pre-war AI that operates on the same level as any other companion in this game. Curie is also AI, so advanced in fact that she works just fine on a Synth body. Ada is in a similar position to Codsworth. Just because they're machines does not exclude them from having Intelligence, this is very clear in the game.

This is a throwaway voiceline, there is no other evidence that they're trying develop "dark matter tech" (whatever that is)

No, it isn't. Vault Tech Rep left Sanctuary because he was sick of Codsworth repeating himself and wanted company. Curie just continued with the research she was programmed to complete, she flat out tells you she has a prerogative to advance her knowledge but is incapable of doing so as a robot. Ada has one goal, revenge, once that is complete, no goal. Sophisticated heuristic programming, not AI. True AI is rare. P.A.M is AI. Synths might be AI. ZAX computers might be AI. Robobrains might be AI, or just especially advanced heuristic machines utilizing cybernetic wetware.

>Maybe if the Minutemen didn't have to deal with Super Mutants and the Institute wiping out entire settlements, they would've been in better shape.

The Minutemen would not have recruited as widely as they did if they had not been fighting the supermutants attacking Diamond city. Without the Institute providing a common enemy and bolstering the Minutemen numbers, the Gunners would have pushed their shit in further.

There are no citizens. There are no nations. Very few groups have to means to enforce laws beyond the physical borders of the area they control. There is certainly no body to enforce laws. Terms like citizen are meaningless. Citizen of where?

When the BoS enters and declares "Citizens of the Commonwealth..." that has a very specific context. They are saying "We are the law and you will abide by our law." Prior to the entrance of the BoS there is no body or group in the Commonwealth forcing anyone to adhere to any common rules. What is permissible in Diamond City may or may not be permissible in Goodneighbor. You will not be punished in Quincy for 'crimes' committed in Bunker Hill.

>Common people who need help, food, water and shelter.

Guess what, millions of niggers in Africa will starve to death or kill each other in armed conflict due to tribal wars. I don't give a shit. I also don't give a shit about the people killing each other far closer to home. I am focused on my own survival and the wellbeing of those closest to me. I don't even pretend to care about things that are out of my control. The Hub is a bunch of shit-kicking scavenger traders that lucked into finding a source of water near a pre-war city that wasn't rubble, and The Boneyard is an area of dummies, thugs, and cultists. Semantics aside, you missed my entire point; disregarding the Commonwealth because they are shit-kickers is retarded as so was California before they became arguably the most powerful nation in the Post-Apocalyptic world.

The whole theme of Fallout is sewing the seeds of a new civilization in the wasteland of a global atomic apocalypse.

That's tough, I think I'll go with NV just because it's a more fleshed out RPG. FO3 is underrated though, and has a way better gameworld and is much more fun for casual exploration. Obsidian is great when they are given a functional game as a base so they can focus on character and quest writing, though, that's always been their wheelhouse.

eh, Beth could have just contained it to Cambridge which would be clean and modern like Vault City. I also checked, and the only hair mods I could find that couldn't be traced back to a Sims mod were the ponytail mod and that crocodile mod. Hell, I can't find a hair mod for Skyrim that wasn't ported from The Sims.

>I would've loved to see an actual inhabited city.

Diamond City is supposed to be huge enough that there's class warfare between the people living in private boxes and the normies who live closer to the ground. The problem is, they have to be able to play on consoles and other toasters, so they're limited to loading and rendering only the ~30 NPCs that matter to quests and add significant flavor like Takahashi. If DC felt as big in the game world as a baseball stadium does in the real world, it would have gone a long way in having enough room for all those nameless peasants and their shack houses.

Yeah. At least a split between stands and ground level could've allowed for more stuff. Maybe isolating the market too and making its own cell and bigger.
>>
I have a fallout 3 copy, used to play it long time ago, is it still good? I started playing until there was the emergency in the vault and holy fuck it's boring and I'm used to the new one
>>
>>170931036

Not the guy you're responding to but I'm surprised Bethesda didn't. They could have easily made a "Diamond City" (the field) and "Diamond City Heights" (the private boxes) connected via a real elevator (and not a window cleaner's gantry). They could have even tied it into nearby skyscrapers, or something else equally cool. Also a "Diamond City underground" (former parking garage) for criminal elements.

Didn't happen though.
>>
>>170930867
I get that it's meant to be big, I meant more that I wanted an uninhabited city to have been inhabited instead. Or one of the raider-infested ones to not have been.

Actually, know what it reminds me of?

Deus Ex: Invisible War.

It had it's other problems but among them, every fucking 30 seconds a goddam load screen. Every "cell" felt so claustrophobic and there were no god-like outdoor cells even. Because they fuckin' sold out to the consoles.

The solution isn't to split things up, unless they can load seamlessly. The solution is an engine that can handle large environments and environments with a more natural scale.

I did some basic calculations once, and walking from concord to lexington to boston or whatever, in game-time was about accurate. Which means that the game space is super condensed. I suppose that's to be expected but it's noticeable and off-putting to me.

yep, Beth just couldn't focus on making one specific aspect of the game good. I'd blame the inclusion of settlements for this, but I doubt they spent much work on that considering that it was originally a mod.

Considering the Institute is like every other isolated enclave of "intellectuals", it's pretty good writing: they are incompetent as fuck. Pretty accurate depiction of typical ivory tower isolated eggheads.

>>170930105
I don't know of any offhand, I don't own FO4 (poorfag with toaster, only played it while housesitting at a friend's). But in general I don't see why you need them; FO4's hair is great compared to FO3/NV. Vanilla waifu potential in FO4 is great, y'all fucks are spoiled to shit needing more.

>>170930330
>The problem is that Bethesda doesn't seem to always understand that.
Bullshit, Bethesda understands that perfectly, which is why their gameworlds are depicted as shit-kicking undeveloped shitholes despite the fact it's set 200+ years after the bombs fell, rather than 80~ or whatever.

Bugfesta Fallouts are depicted like that because they want to maintain that aesthetic of being at the ground floor of rebuilding civilization from the ruins. Which is thematically alright, but can cause problems when across the country a fairly industrialized mercantile nation has been in place for a few generations already. Which is one of the general complaints about the Bugfesta games (which is tired and not accurate considering the west coast had a lot of advantages the east coast didn't post-war, like GECKs out the ass, more control vaults, the early BoS fucking up mutants and raiders, and two generational savior PCs).

>>170930867
>>170931036
Yeah, there is so much dead space in the stadium that could've been partitioned off into seperate cells to flesh out the city. But nah, fuck that Zenimax needs their shekels, so no time for that shit.
>>
>>170932038
There is quite a bit to do in FO4's "empty" spaces, but InvisWar was a complete dud.

The two newer DX games have the same thing I'm complaining about. The world is too small in relation to the characters. I think the DX games pull it off better because they're all interiors/cities.

No.

Reason: no script extender is possible unless beth releases a proper GECK equivalent, which they won't because console owners could use it to execute non-kosher code on their systems (which is very likely against whatever terms of service is setup between beth and microsoft).
>>
>>170932864

makes me wonder if beth is still going to try and pop paid mods onto fallout or tes, regardless of the backlash it'd be a way to "vet" modders so that they aren't able to upload "malicious" code (such as an SE) onto consoles

>Considering the Institute is like every other isolated enclave of "intellectuals", it's pretty good writing: they are incompetent as fuck. Pretty accurate depiction of typical ivory tower isolated eggheads.

I'm willing to accept that but the writing has to be better. For example if Beth wanted to mention the CPG, they could have mentioned it as a major malfunction of the gen 1s and provided details on that event somewhere in the Institute. They didn't.

That idea shows a remarkable amount of ignorance as to how the world works.

All games, especially AAA, long-franchise titles, are supposed to have experimental features. They are not iterative story structures.

I'm only seeing modifications to DLCUltraHighResolution - Textures16.ba2 in this update.

The binaries are untouched. So F4SE should be fine.
>>
Hey guys, FO4 question here, anyone have a good way of getting T-51 power armor pieces/full sets outside of straight up console cheating? I love all the new paint jobs the DLCs added to T-51 but I'm wayyy overleveled to get it to spawn via visiting leveled PA frame areas(Currently Lv68).

So outside of buying pieces from Atom Cat's Rowdy, is there a faster or more guaranteed way to get T-51s? I already have the guaranteed ones from Far Harbour/Nuka World.

If there isn't, does Rowdy work like Skyrim vendors where I can hit them then load an autosave/quicksave and their inventory will be different?

Final question is, what's the EASIEST way to make money? Pre-DLCs it was making a SHITLOAD of industrial water purifiers and just trading water for what you need. Is there a much much more efficient way now with Automatron/Contraptions/NukaWolrld/FH? I've beaten all the DLCs so I should have everything needed in regards to buildings(I've also completed Vault 88 recently and can build all those machines too)
>>
>>170931862
That isn't a problem, though. In Insurgency, you take a direct hit by a molotov (head or chest), you're dead too. If it explodes near you you just take the damage and stress for how much you're exposed to the burn. I don't see why in FO4, taking a direct hit by a molotov shouldn't kill you if you're in clothing or light armor, obviously it's silly if you're in PA.

>>170934196
No, unless there is a mod to do that, which there might be. If you're asking for such a mod, go look for it (type "Amata" in the file search on fo3 nexus ffs).

>>170933160
Oh, for sure Bethesda can do better writing. But also the player is never privy to every piece of information that might be present in the gameworld, either. There may have been memos or other bullshit that the player doesn't have access too because in the meta it wasn't deemed relevant for the player (as far as pushing the game narrative of fleshing out the world). Thematically it works alright when considering isolated intellectual enclaves are often arrogantly incompetent or flawed in some way.

Why does it seem like Piper is the most worked-on NPC in the entire game? She has a shit load of custom animations. Did Todd just assume you'd meet her then keep her as your only companion after that? What does that tell you about the other companions if the developers expect you to stick with the first one you meet? Dogmeat not included.

>First companion
First human companion is preston, and arguably nick if you do dialog a certain way. And there's nothing stopping you from finding Strong, or Cait before you ever set foot in DC.

Piper is the "most normal" human companion and the one obviously intended for romance. All of the companions are romance options because of screeching autist SJW progressives that demand to be able to romance toddlers in the pursuit of true game freedom. Preston is likely the intended target if you play Nora instead of Nate.

Piper also has a child in her care, ostensibly her sister, but I still believe there was going to be some rape subplot with Piper that eventually revealed her sister was the result of that rape. Probably scrapped since they already had Cait as a victim.

Good rundown, although I think Danse might've been more as a surrogate Nate for Nora, since he has similar looks and is a military man like Nate was. MacCreedy and Cait are similar as secondary romance options who have traumatic pasts that are there for those who love fixing broken people.

Why did you make a thread early? The only reason previous /fog/s got killed early was because asshats from /v/ made a seperate NV general thread, and then /fog/ migrated to it instead of making a new one, then people got butthurt and made a new /fo4g/ and so there was essentially 3 Fallout generals on /vg/.

You making a new /fog/ thread a good half hour before it's actually needed is more problematic than waiting until it is actually needed, so stop bitching that people are staying in this thread.
