They tried to kill the modding scene and it worked for a while, but it's looking like that's not gonna stick for too much longer
The game itself won't die for decades, this thing made enough money to put mojang on the same level as most first-party console developing companies, and they're not going to give up that gravy train any time soon

Anon if you just want a top-down view of your world there are literal minimap mods that show you that shit in real time in-game
>>
>>170788679
You know, I realized that it might be nice to have pseudo-official /mcg/ pack(s).
There are a lot of newfags, and while shitty quest packs try to act a tutorial for mods, they don't often do well because they're gimmicky and shit.

So I was thinking about whipping up quest packs that actually have effort put into them (for multiple versions) that act as a guide for newfags so that
>when really lazy faggots who can't be assed to make their own pack ask what pack should I play they can get a good answer that isn't only hobo/private version of ts2's pack
>vanillafriends who feel daunted by heavily modded minecraft can learn how to autism without being forced to join a serb and be guided
As well as providing a showcase for lesser known mods, and highlighting some buggy features in known ones (magneticraft shelves).

>the greek monastery in the mountain? Is it gonna be in the game?
There's a small Greek-ish monastery in the PVP town, next to the arena.
The temple of Fates was supposed to be a whole expansion on its own, like the flying castle. You'd go in through the aqueducts, then cross the labyrinth and finally arrive to the underground ruins, where something less hack and slash, kinda like Tomb Raider was planned.
Is that the one you mean? because most likely never ever

Small experimental tool to cache post-transformation classes, speeding up Minecraft loading. Seeking testing (please run it twice - the first time, it generates the necessary classCache.dat file) and data on load time improvements. It should also work on 1.6.4 and 1.7.10.

We need an exploration/adventure mod with a dimension and mechanics based on stuff like final fantasy crystal chronicles, where there's only a handful of safe places and you need to physically bring shit with you to survive outside of them, to go and get stuff to bring back to keep those areas safe

Doesn't seem to help much if you're on a toaster or don't have too much memory allocated to MC, my miracle 1.7.10 pack that runs 140 listed mods on 750 MB of allocated RAM went from a load time of roughly 6 minutes to 12+ on both the first and the following runs of that mod. Maybe I shouldn't be greedy about performance and be happy that this thing just works at all.

What i like the most is that it's really just a nice toy, and doesn't really provides anything game changing or absolutely necessary, meaning you can actually safely ignore it if you hate ChC endgame as much as i do.
By the way since you're calling it quits, can you check out Continent Shift ability? I never bothered and then forgot about it, then deleted the pack where i finished ChC
I'm interested how huge is the landmass you can move with it
>>
>>170821918
Not much really, most of the modding scene is still on 1.7.10.

There's been a couple goodies for 1.10 like chisel & bits, valkyrien warfare, embers and roots. A handful of the essential mods updated as well but it's still largely not worth moving over for.

Of the top of my head 1.7 has techguns now. Unless you want to try out the couple decent new mods for 1.10 it's still a better idea to play 1.7 for the performance and raw number and variety of mods.

Noob from the last thread here, having lots of fun with the Thaumcraft research puzzles. I think I have almost all the elements unlocked now, and I got Research Mastery and the Deconstructing Table last night. Next up is Golemancy and some more wand stuff. I'm lucky, I guess - there are two Aura Nodes within 100 blocks of my house, and there's that sinister altar thing too. I have a Cauldron and I made a Primal Charm. Pic related is my Thaumcraft room - it needs prettified, but until I can set up a proper base it'll do.

Also, I got all the redundant ores and woods figured out! Yay me!

>>170800070
I'd love that. I'm having lots of fun figuring things out right now, but a well-made pack that introduces general mod concepts and how to work through trees would be amazing. Please do it.
>>
>>170819109
Build replicas of really weird IRL buildings to get a feel for different angles, supports, and architecture styles. Try building something that looks good out of white wool, pink stained glass, pumpkins, jungle fence, and nether brick stairs, without using any of the architectural tropes you have in your other buildings. Make big ruins with smaller bases hidden inside them. Make stupidly overcomplicated walls with a bunch of layers, then render them down into something simpler. Walls because you don't have to make a whole building match them, and you can experiment more with a flat plane.
>>

The mod is decently documented, just depends entirely on how many bugs and crashes you want to deal with. The matter network stuff has a lot of broken inventory handling, like shift-clicking sends you back to the main menu with a packet handler exception or something. The whole thing feels really unfinished with the bugs and documentation not matching what's actually in the mod regarding that entire portion of the content. and I only fucked around for about half an hour and found all that out.

the guns seem to work, but who knows what'll happen on your end. its a case of 'works on my machine'.

the worst that could happen is you try it on a test world and you don't like it, and wind up removing it.
>>
>>170833336
well actually the worst that could happen is you try it, like it, play with it for around ten hours and it bricks your save.

Anyone got any comfy mod recommendations?

Is there a mod to make it rain more frequently?

Matmos/dynamic surroundings.
DS is superior because it does a whole lot more than ambient sound, but matmos is much lighter.

You could also get a mod that has stuff in it that lets you fuck with the weather.

Another challenge I'm facing is also the getting lower ores like diamond and redstone.A majority of this world gen doesn't even go that low.

With luck I can get some gold by finding spots at about y27 where I am just standing on a single layer a stone above the void. But diamond and other stuff that are only at level 19 and below are extremely difficult.

Once I gain access to the nether it will become easier with nether ores but getting there is still a challenge.

In conclusion, ChromatiCraft is a rather interesting magic mod, diffidently more unique than Thaumcraft and Buttania.

Just don't expect the OPness of it to be handed to you on a silver platter like those two mods, you actually have to explore, discover shit, and work for it yourself in order to get those OP tools and powers.

The dimension it adds is rather cool, by both concept (how it resets every time it's offloaded) and design-wise (especially the far lands).

>>170865083

That depends really, it's a unique experience to try out at least once. But if you really are seriously considering adding it to your pack you should consider what else you may be adding. The only other magic mod it compliments is Thaumcraft. I wouldn't recommend having it with Buttania, as that will be too much colorful vomit for anyone to handle.

It also supports forestry by adding it's own bees, but they become kinda useless once you get to endgame.

And of course it supports every single Reika cancer mod, and Aura Locus endgame reward will help you produce millions of canola seeds in seconds, so you can lube up the world.

Actually how about I list the pros and cons for simple minded aspies out there.

Pros:
>Fun and unique progression system, certain ores and plants only show up as you progress, otherwise they will be "invisible".
>unique magic system
>awesome powers
>plenty of interesting and useful blocks and items it adds, as well as decor
>an overworld biome that prevents hostile mobs from naturally spawning on it
>cool dimension with it's own custom music*
>support with various other mods, like Thaumcraft, Forestry, Tinker's Construct (mostly), Twilight Forest, and pretty much all of Reika's cancer mods
>colorful

Cons:
>VERY slow start
>required to find three hidden structures to progress
>Pylons can be annoying, whether it'd be them zapping you early game or not genning colors that you want closer to you for late game
>Cave crystals are ugly and make experience ding noises
>Some ChromatiCraft dusts that you need come from flowers of specific biomes, like cold ones or deserts. If you have BoP, this wouldn't be a problem, but vanilla biome generation tends to not gen cold and desert biomes at the same time.
>w/o mystcraft, Rainbow tree leaves that catch fire perma-crash worlds. Turning off fire tick is recommended, as Mystcraft is a shitty mod
>rainbow tree leaves rarely drop notch apples by default
>Area above the nether and Chroma dimension as a whole is literally MAWPC due to the loot chests you can easily get in those places. The latter's chests sometimes contains nether stars.
>game chokes for like 10 seconds every time it has to load a new track of music in the Chroma dimension, and you cannot turn off the music even if you set the slider for it to off, you have to turn off ALL sound
>makes Thaumcraft piss easy due to the massive amounts of aspects you can get from scanning the pylons, the amount of essenia you can get from rainbow leaves, as well as other integrations with it
>some endgame and element mastery powers are uber MAWPC

Alright, since I've had my fill with ChromatiCraft, it's time to jump to a different specific mod.

And that mod will be the Localized Weather and Stormfronts mod. Let's see which pack uses it well, as well as keeps things fun and interesting.

So I am trying to plan ahead and have come to realize that I have no way to acquire electrotine thanks to my world gen.

I can probably make a balanced way to make it synthetically in Minetweaker, most likely using redstone as a basis and altering it somehow.

Any ideas on what would be a good solution to make it?

Yes. 1.7.10 is now for stubborn modders who don't want to relearn everything again because of the newer minecraft code changes.

We are at a phase in the coding community were mods at 1.7.10 that do not update are being phased out with replacements.

There already exist tech and magic mods at 1.10.2 that do better.

Widespread monetization was FTB's plan. Slowpoke knows it will irreparably damage the modding community by creating an influx of low quality copycat mods. But it gives him options. If one of his circlejerk modders disagrees with him or threatens to split away, he can use one of the clone mods and they'll get the big curse bucks and not the original developer. There's ALWAYS someone willing to be a lackey. Look at guys like Quetzi or Mezz.

>>
>>170905247
Oh, wait, you mean the first start of a modpack in general. Sorry.

On an HDD, that's generally true - HDDs nowadays have large caches (64MB!) and the operating system can also keep its own cache of data loaded off disk. For that reason, you should measure multple times - the second run might have cache data available which the first run doesn't.

(For an SSD, the same effect exists but is much less visible due to SSD latencies/load times being much, much smaller in general.)
>>
>>170903884
As for the other points:

>player, author of hidden gimmick mods like fastcraft, questions its usefulness
He doesn't question its usefulness but rather its cleanliness: there is a possibility of it breaking certain mods in hard-to-debug ways, and in fact, during my testing, I have identified (and worked around) one, that is ElecCore. Generally, any mod with an ASM transformer manipulating external state can have problems running under ClassCacheTweaker, and such transformers are blacklisted so that their operations are not cached. On the ground of cleanliness, Player is absolutely correct - however, in *practice*, that doesn't matter, as most common modpacks will probably be heavily tested by the time an user gets his hands on it.

>people saying it's nothing but a bandaid to encourage shitty modders to not get better
My mods can only fix so much. Improvements in mods can often bring far more benefit than FoamFix/CCT/etc. ever will.

Imagine ten billion tile entities in a single chunk.

>>170924924
What if I'm keeping chunks loaded for automation purposes? That's mainly what I'm referring to. Using space so everything I always want to keep loaded is together, unless I still want to spread out and load multiple chunks.

Is it better to just have stuff spread out and then take a more active role in loading and unloading chunks? For me there isn't much point in modded minecraft if I'm not automating shit to run when I'm doing something else or somewhere else in the world.
>>
>>170926135
>Is it better to just have stuff spread out and then take a more active role in loading and unloading chunks?
What? Bro, just keep more chunks loaded. It's not that complicated.

1) Spread base out over multiple chunks
2) Keep those chunks loaded

Not that hard to figure out.
>>
>>170926452
But then you're fucking the servers memory.

Building out isn't a problem.

Your base doesn't need to be chunkloaded while you're out and about anyways.

Ticking the same chunk 700 times causes shit like stuttering or fps drops. If you tick 10 chunks 70 times though, you evenly distribute the load. So you might get a slighty worse but consistent performance.

Either you're at your base and your chunks are being loaded. Or you're away from base and your chunks aren't being loaded. Its not like manually setting the chunk to be loaded loads it twice. If its worth being loaded if your gone for an hour its worth being loaded if you're gone for 5 minutes. either you want the chunk loaded or not. I can definitely tell whenever I'm using chunk loading as opposed to not using chunk loading in regards to farms and shit.

I disagree. Certain foods taste significantly better when you go on "just fuck my shit up senpai" binges. To me I might as well just not eat the cookies if I'm going to have some every now and then, because its like I'm not even allowed to enjoy them, I might as well not be eating cookies at all and I might as well be looking at food as purely a caloric resource. On the other hand when you pull out an entire package of cookies and a jug of milk and just binge that shit while watching anime and sitting in bed just getting cookie crumbs all over everything and you're like "ITS A NIGHT BITCH" that's so, so, so much better.

If you're going to indulge its so much better to make a night out of it and do it sparingly than make it a minor daily routine.

Why do people keep making hardcore survival mods when there are straight up BETTER hardcore survival games?

No really. Sandbox survival games are a dime a dozen these days and nearly all of them are better suited to the genre than our little digital lego simulator.

Why waste time turning Minecraft into Rust when you could just play Rust?

Was interested if there was any meaning behind it.

Perhaps you are leaving behind a secret code with those images, where each image represents a character in morse code or another language, that if we were to assemble and decode that it would reveal secrets of the Illuminati or space aliens or cheap viagra. What if they are the same because they contain subliminal elements to slowly brainwash individuals so the company you work for can increase gerbil sales by 50% in wisconsin. What if they are a limited because you don't have a hard drive and you can only fit your OS, web browser and five images on your floppy disk. What if it's part of your religion or an ancient family tradition? What if you're not even aware of it because aliens have been subliminal instructions to your brain for the sole purpose of confusing other humans, which the aliens find amusing. What if you're actually a bot created by darpa to simulate /mcg/ posting because reasons and your AI is so advanced you are self aware and your AI just really really likes those five images.

You know what, I quit modding forever. I'm serious.

I've tried to update a mod four times to 1.10 and every time I do it I'm ripping my hair out and cussing up a storm. EVERYTHING is different. Not just a little bit, but EVERYTHING. MASSIVE SWEEPING CHANGES. FOR NO GODDAMN REASON. NO DOCUMENTATION ON HOW TO ADAPT IT.

Not just Mojang either, Forge too. It's all fucked up. It's beyond usable. It's beyond slow. It's beyond acceptable. Nothing makes sense. Nothing is the way that it had been for FUCKING YEARS before that anus excrement known as 1.8 happened.

Obviously they're doing it to keep the circlejerk in power because those cunts all tell each other what's changed and have the inside scoop. Not us poor fucks. We get to sift through a pile of autist diarrhea and find any remnants of what we're familiar with.

I hate everyone associated with this game and modding it.

Mojang made those changes so that Microsoft won't fire them, because nobody else can understand their spaghetti code. Notch was a coding savant compared to the old Bukkit team they've got running the show now.

Forge makes changes because Lex doesn't know what he's doing and he needs to stay relevant. He wants Forge to be massive and developers to be so dependent that no competitor has any chance of attracting users.

I can help you with that.
Condensed Blood is an itemized version of Blood, which you will eventually get by crafting a Blood Extractor and killing mobs while it's on your hotbar. Condensed Blood is an early-game method of pumping energy (i.e., Blood) into Evilcraft machines.

Evilcraft can be a bit broken with the tools it introduces. It adds a Fortune X pick (which has a chance of summoning a Vengeance Spirit near you when used) and a Looting II dagger.

Why is it that lone modders can pump out entire new experiences for the game in a matter of months, yet Mojang, a team getting paid to work on the game, that has no restrictions in what they can do with the game, can take up to an entire year to make only the same amount of content as a small novelty mod?
Are they just being paid to fuck with the modding community?

Modders don't have to plan ahead and ensure that their code base is usable by thousands of other individuals. They have the liberty to build a project from the ground up with little worry about it impacting anything else. Mojang has to make sure their code is compatible with the next version every time while still improving and changing it, that alone would create a lot of overhead.

When you look at huge projects that offer massive amounts of support you start to see the man hours put into it spike dramatically opposed to a little self contained mod. Take Buildcraft for example - 159 contributors and 5,714 commits, or Tcon, with 130 contributors, and 5,269 commits.

Are you against Skyblock maps and using Ex Nihilo?

If not, do Agrarian Skies 2. It goes through nearly all the generic mods you find everywhere but the beginning is tedious as shit.

If you're not into that, then a case of a full blown kitchen sink pack like FTB Infinity Evolved and focusing on 1 mod at a time is an alternative way to go.

Actually, on further thought, there is also Project Ozone 2. I remember that having a huge Quest book that has you crafting nearly everything from all the mods. Just use normal difficult and DO NOT touch the chance cubes you get as a reward. They can literally break your world.

Got a house in mid-construction, made out of marble because there's so god damn much of it. Got a stack and a half of iron, a stack of copper, some redstone, and some ultra-early ore doubling in the form of that Small Plate Presser down there. Bucketed lava from a nearby mountain. Died once literally trying to get into my hole.

I also found some Astral Sorcery chests, with papers in it. No clue what the paper does, but we'll find out!

Hello.
We are looking for a computer to our daughter, we can go as far as some thousand and we could really use your help as we have no idea about what resources are optimal for this game.

Our daughter, has been asking us for a computer since christmas so she can play this game since she really enjoys the Pocket Edition (upon some investigation that version is a “lite” edition with less features).

We are against spoiling her so we told her to do basic tasks in the house like helping her mom in the kitchen or just do some easy tasks like helping me organizing my office, keeping her room clean, being nice with the home helpers, helping to keep the pool clean and doing the garden. Of course, all the tasks were supervised so she didn’t get hurt.

She managed to do an acceptable job for 3 months so we want to give her a surprise, hence we don’t want to discuss the theme with her.

For more background she has an iPod that she uses for things like Netflix, Spotify and else, the thing is set up with parental controls and she’s not allowed to have any kind of social media for familiar reasons, being her age a part of this.

She wants a laptop for portability reasons, we often go in family trips to relax ourselves hence a custom build computer isn’t a possibility.

Upon checking Amazon and some basic research we have some laptops that we consider can run the game with an acceptable performance, however we are open and will be grateful for suggestions.

>>
>>170970557
As you can see we don’t have knowledge on the topic, but we want our daughter to have fun playing her game.

Before you ask she doesn’t have any kind of console. The TV’s inside the house and her iPod are the only “smart” devices she has access to.

Other questions:

As far as i read the XBOX-ONE edition has support for controllers. Does the PC edition has support for them too?

Would this control work?
>www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Controller-Dawn-Shadow-Special/dp/B01KXINFMI/ref=sr_1_cc_2?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1489468385&sr=1-2-catcorr&keywords=pink%2Bcontroller%2Bminecraft%2Bxbox&th=1

And there’s any way to prevent her from using voice chat or in game chat?

Classes determine your starting stats and the bonus xp you'll get when you do certain things (like mining if you're a Miner class). And every time you level up, I believe you get some skill points to put into certain skills for bonuses.

Yes. Did you read the EULA?

>Any Mods you create for the Game from scratch belong to you (including pre-run Mods and in-memory Mods) and you can do whatever you want with them, as long as you don't sell them for money / try to make money from them and so long as you don't distribute Modded Versions of the Game. Remember that a Mod means something that is your original work and that does not contain a substantial part of our code or content. You only own what you created; you do not own our code or content.

Outside of selling mods, mod authors have the full right to impose whatever licensing they want to on them.

The problem is that trees aren't fucking blocks in real life. Once you get to a certain point of super low detail models vs high resolution textures (anything above 32x really, even that's arguable) it just looks like complete shit.
>>
>>171025904
No, you can own code in and of itself. Emulators are legal because they don't re-use said code - for those which require a BIOS, you still need to acquire the BIOS yourself, and the only way to do so legally is to dump it from a working console.
>>
>>171026163

A copyright is only as strong as your ability to uphold it in court. Modders aint exactly the MPAA. Microsoft could march in and steal every fucking line of code from Thaumcraft and Azanor wouldn't be able to do shit about it aside from whine about it on Twitter.

Your ability to uphold it is still irrelevant to the fact that the copyright exists. Microsoft could steal it but they would still be breaking the law, even if they got away with it.

In situations like this, the community has a responsibility to police itself. Everyone works under the assumption that if someone else steals your work then the community's got your back. If Microsoft or Mojang stole something, I'd imagine that there'd be outcry.

Unfortunately this hasn't always been the case within the community itself, because nobody cared that Project Red completely stole code from Red Logic, or cloned Red Power's textures to a T, or broke it up into six pieces to make six times the income, or that FTB started using it despite their claims to never use clone mods.

In my mind, Project Red was when modded Minecraft died, because it shows that commercialization and selfishness won over what was right and fair.

Meanwhile Asians and Russkies show us that the only place where communism truly works is on modding. You have a lot of autists working on what they want and they give no fucks about what people do with their mods. The majority of my power network is in RF so I'm more inclined to use that, but the Flux Transformer claims it only has 80% efficiency whereas the Electric Feeder Unit does not. If necessary I could always convert RF to EU with IE wires (4RF = 1EU), but I don't actually know the conversion rates to Railcraft Charge so I'm not sure at a glance which is more efficient to use. I have no shortage of RF so that's not an issue. Any thoughts as to which I should use?

There's no way to prevent her using the in-game chat feature, and I honestly think it would be deeply harmful to her experience if you were to do so. In single-player, it allows the user to change gamemodes, change the weather, and do other very important things with commands. Also, if she can't use in-game chat on a server, other people can still talk to her - she just can't respond. As far as in-game communities go, Minecraft is certainly one of the kindest and most fostering to new players anyway. There is no native voice support, so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

never, for a couple opinionated reasons

firstly, it takes an ungodly amount of man hours to make content that is in some shape or form engaging. whether it be world lore autism, exploration, loot stuff, or a combination of those. combat in minecraft is shit so unless you plan on basing all your RPG combat with a mod that adds fun shit like Techguns or Matter Overdrive you have to learn how to write and engage players.

second, you can break (just about) anything in Minecraft. building puzzles or some form of setting where people are to experience 'A Thing' without having hacky AoE anti-build/anti-break blocks is fucking difficult. you spend more time working to break-proof a build than actually building it. then you have to consider if there's certain gating to rewards you put in and what ways there are to work around them.

its not gonna happen unless someone volunteers to put in the stupid amount of effort to make the experience engaging and fun for the player. which at that point why are you bothering with this shitty brick construction emulator, go make an actual game or write some short stories.
