There are a couple mods that would be helpful, "patch project" for the unnofficial patch, a db delay mod to prevent tribunal so you aren't gooned at level1, 4gb patch and exe opt for stability, code patch has a bugfix option and mgexe for rendering modern resolutions.
Generally morrowind doesn't need the 50 mods that skyrim needs since really those mods are just adding back what skyrim removed. Just focus on bugfixes since it is a bethesda game, at least for your first playthrough

The ETA should had been at least a full year because only the the beta of the basic form of SKSE64 is coming out this month. Even when SKSE64 is fully out and well developed it is going to be almost totally different from Oldrim's SKSE and all SKSE mods are going need to be rewritten from scratch.

But it will be worth it in the end. Now that we can use almost unlimited RAM and VRAM the ceiling of what can be done in terms of mods has risen greatly.
