This General is a Regulation-Free Zone: we maintain the neutral zone between the blind chaos of anarchy and the retarded nurgleite zealotry of nationalisation. Posters making absurd claims that trade unions are beneficial or that the Falklands are not an integral part of the United Kingdom will be detained and accused of being IRA provocateurs.

It'll be less a question of kicking and more a question of just making /scg/ as its own thread again. Of course /edg/ discussion will not be ok in /scg/. But this is a joint general anon, they have as much right to be here as we do, it is a sacrifice being made for the purpose of having the general survive the night.

I just watched some of this livestream and Braben seems like a nice guy. You can tell he cares about his game. He makes it sound so interesting. As someone who only played like 20 minutes and got a refund, it makes me want to buy the game again. For example, that whackjob guy who set up away from the bubble near that alien tech and sightings, and how you have to travel to different NPCs for them to do stuff for you like upgrade your stuff. And how people set up their own colony on the edge of the galaxy and it takes a long time to get there.

It would be even cooler if you could fast travel to another galaxy and some people set up a colony there for people to travel to, and it could have all new stuff there in future patches.

But I'm not going to fool myself, I know there's not much more to the game than grinding credits to buy bigger ships.

If the game didn't have grind, I think I'd like it more.

>>170636195
If you have LTI, upgrade, don't melt for non-LTI. Also I don't see "data running" being anything interesting unless you get paid a lot from NPCs for it. People will just tell things to their org in spectrum, not make some kind of profession out of it, at least in my opinion.

Short version yes, long version yes because the herald will not have definable value until player orgs are producing stuff like jump coordinates that are valuable enough to be securely moved from system to system or the mission systems is developed enough for niche missions like that to be generated for a single hull to the exclusion of others. The prospector will be a money printer as soon as mining, which as been confirmed now as a 3.0 feature, is released. The prospector is SC's version of pic related, which is one of the cheapest and simplest ways for a newb to make money in EVE.

>I'm still convinced that the whole 'selling point of interest coordinates' and whatever is gonna be a gimmick that nobody uses at best
Pretty much what we said. The concept is cool, but I don't see it being much of an actual profession.

Prospector looks more viable, but I don't know about the interior, the Herald's interior is pretty comfy.
>>
>>170636401
>People will just tell things to their org in spectrum, not make some kind of profession out of it
Coordinates will be too complicated to simply be passed around, additionally, we will likely not have an option to just type coords into the nav computer and warp to spot. You will have a navcom which will have an input slot that eats "data" items like coordinates and adding a data item to the navcom will add a bookmark for you to warp to. That data items will have to be passed out to anyone you want to give the location of say a hidden player owned warehouse to, and in order to get the passed out securely you will need to courier them not transmit them, in a way that they can be quickly and completely purged if the courier is intercepted, lest your coordinate data tokens be captured and your warehouse compromised. This will be an org thing for the most part. since individuals will not need so much to pass out that information to others, they will just use markers they have laid themselves.

So uh.. Star Citizen is lacking behind...

Elite Dangerous has already beaten it to the punch with character creation.

well the actual play of it could be very different; data will take up no physical space and add no mass to your ship, as well it might be prevalent in war efforts so you'll potentially be finding more datarun jobs through dangerous territory and can do it in nimble little ships outfitted with some servers, basically being a CTF flag carrier through a warzone, or trying to stealth it through military/police patrols in the case of illegal info running, as opposed to just pushing a heavy load in a big slow ship and hoping like hell that nobody starts shooting at you.

Star citizen is not speculative fiction about the future of humanity in 900 years. It is a game of cold war era technology set to roman politics in a space. Spoiler Alert:Earth is Roma, Terra is Byzantium The Vanduul are the migration period germannic tribes that eventually sacked Rome.

for 25 years from 1990 to 2005ish video games were all emulating the second world war in terms of mechanics of combat, because that's what was widely known and understood. Since 2005ish we have been emulating the Cold War as it becomes widely known and understood due to the declassification of its secrets. In 20 years or so well star emulating the "War on Terror" and all gameplay will consist or arresting enemy combatants like they're drug dealers, convene secret committees to secretly sentence individuals to death by drone strike, sitting in a FOB in a grey brown shithole deciding whether to kill yourself or go on a civilian murdering spree, and alternate stints of stand on a street corner waiting to be carbombed/sniped or driving around waiting to strike an IED.
>>
>>170641891
The fact that in an effectively infinite galaxy, you all are always paying attention to like less than a half dozen systems is really telling about the value of a huge world in general and about the "mile wide inch deep" nature of E:D in particular.
>>
>>170642362

The part that really upsets me is that 17D and Quince are one of the few unique systems in the game because of the missions they give out. After the update, there will be very little reason to make the trip out to either system.

It'd be nice if they didn't use level scaling and if enemies got harder and payouts got bigger the further you went from the center of the bubble but here I go again with wishful thinking.

It's simple, galactic lebensraum
>>
>>170644853
I mean early cold war, like Korea to Vietnam.
A mix of gun fighters with primitive missiles, prop and jet bombers with turrets but also guided weapons. Weapons are manually aimed not automated. Large ships that focused more on support than direct combat. Ubiquity of automatic weapons in close combat but before the introduction of stuff like drones and hyperwar making the individual combatant little more than a vulnerable fragile target that must be protected from instadeath. We're well past "WW2 In space" like star wars or 90s era space games, but were not even approaching the level of automation of say the early 1990s, when combat really started to become a point and click adventure for the faction with the most money and by extension most advanced standoff range toys.

>>170645013
Writers and designers take inspiration from existing tech and established fiction more than they just pull mechanics out of thin air. As the military's toys and tricks come out of classification they get written into fiction, and non fiction alike as the latest and greatest, even though the technology has existed for decades behind closed doors. Art emulates life. Speculative Art does sometimes inspire life, but most of the time its the other way around.

Oh, that's right. Remember all these weapons from Quake and Doom and Unreal Tournament being based on real life ones? No wait, they were completely made up for the sake of looking and playing cool. Actual WW2 games actually came later and were a step down from that, but still not in the slightest representative of actual WW2 combat.
>As the military's toys and tricks come out of classification they get written into fiction
>even though the technology has existed for decades behind closed doors.
Yeah, like what? What games since 2005 use "declassified Cold War weapons"? You're talking out of your ass. Why the fuck would we get "War on terror" games in 20 years? We already know everything about it, and it doesn't make for fun gameplay.

I think we are actually in a golden age in term of of space game,
You'll find out it's hard to make a realistic game when the laws of physics do not cater to the sort of gameplay you hoped for. You need to make concession to make it playable, more to make it fun.

Have some CODE (or CHODE if that's your mileage)

Or all the thrusters are so obscenely powerful that the upward thrust necessary to maintain hover is tiny relative to potential. Our main engines can accelerate several tons of starfighter to .2c in seconds, that's many orders of magnitude more than is need to hold a geostationary hover.

Main engines = .2c In system jumping and Pulses for AB. Mav thrusters are tiny in comparisons but still far more powerful and efficient than anything that exists in the real world today.

LN is good, it wont compete head on with the $170 wallet warrior fighters, but its solid, If you really want to spend more money, You can get an Avenger for like $60, but honestly don't buy ships with a power scale in mind they get rebalanced a lot and none of them are "worth it"
And I've spent a lot of money on this game, for reference.

You'll be better off for using the LN that you have to gid gud, it can and does kill Hornets and Sabres once you learn how to fly and fight properly.

also >>170648778 a free fly just went up so if you really just want to fly an OP pussywagon go there and punch in that promo code to use a sabre for the week, however, that whit will spoil you. It's a dedicated interceptor with no cargo capacity or utility function. Going fast and shooting things is all it does.

very mixed thoughts on the multicrewery as turrets are simply somewhat weak except for their supreme fire opportunities, but people don't mount very much for a gunner to use. a fighter on the other hand is quite fun to go and get dirty with in conjunction with a mothership and by itself throws out considerable damage. need to try out missiles as a crewman but this will be an excellent way for people to share the wealth in their combat ability. a nice period in a hazres can easily amount to a pretty penny especially if bounties are now duped as opposed to split, and the immediacy of joining another vessel is pretty good. all a matter of having people drop in at the right time so they have stuff to do as i can't interact with the engineer base it seems, dunno about stations

Yeah, but unless you want to do RP autism it's not worth it.

The basic way to get the items is to pledge for 3 weeks, and in the third week go shoot enough of another faction to get rating 3. It is 30 merits per kill so it only takes 25 kills. Also make sure you don't shoot at Powers aligned to the same Superpower as your faction.

what are you hoping to buy? the pastebin covers this, but there's different currencies right now, one for personal gear and one for ship gear, and they're earned in different modes. ship gear currency (REC) is earned in AC. personal gear currency (for rifles and shotguns, armor and clothes) is aUEC, and earned by doing missions in Crusader.

A few upgrades for the ship I suppose? Tried to do a mission and got completely fucked by an enemy pilot. So best course of action is to spam AC?

First impressions:
Singleplayer runs fine but multiplayer is FPS laggy, so their netcode must be shit.

The HIGH FIDELITY first person movement system is fucking annoying because it's hard to make the small movements necessary to get into the clickbox to activate your environment.

Ship combat was pretty fun.

Environments looks nice but very generic.

If you want true general purpose go for the Connie. Cat for the hauling and the giant dick waving aesthetic. Though the Cat will have modules to make it better we don't have anything concrete to go off of at the moment. The Cat is just a bigger ship not gear for combat, which the Connie is a true multi-role ship which can do combat.

Don't take the current (2.6.1) performances of the ship seriously. Last I heard CIG was toying with the fully laden maneuvering of each ship.

As a proud Retaliator owner, my biggest fear is not so much it has no role, but no target. The cat seems to be the only ship it has any value attacking, anything smaller is basically fully fucked in a single hit, if not destroyed. Starfarers as they are currently are just too tanky, requires all 6 to kill it, and by the 5th its completely dead and has no chance of salvaging the ship. Basically everything is either too weak that it really doesnt deserve a torpedo, or too strong where youll need something else, or multiple tallies. I guess ill have to wait for Hull series to show up. But i feel that with their design the torps will end up nuking most of the cargo depending where it hits.
>>
>>170692890
I'd settle for all manner of aim not being completely gimped and randomized when in zero g. guns wave all over, grenades go where they will, it's absolutely anti tactical. you basically have to stop and brace to do anything

>>
>>170710906
Yeah I don't know how the fuck that's going to work at all. Either insured ships won't be able to be stolen which is all sorts of gay or there will be duping/RMT out of the ass.
>>
>>170711003

Basically you can steal the ship, but it's not easy to do, you can't insure it, and every PvP bounty hunter sees you glowing in the dark on their radar with big arrows pointing you, and every cop in the system goes nuts trying to kamikaze kill you.

If you manage to get to "pirate" space and the pirates don't silence your farts, you can go on a station and if they don't shank you, you can pay more than the cost of just buying a new ship to get a chop shop to legalise it.
>>
>>170712347

My guesses:

1. Stolen ships will be hard to sell, if they will be worth anything at all.

2. Stolen ships will most likely be destroyed on sight by law enforcement/military all over the galaxy.

3. All bounty hunters will get updates on the observed positions of all stolen ships.
>>
>>170710906
for more expensive ships I expect a "cooldown" on being able to claim a replacement

The issue is that as it is right now, if a starfarer can eat all 6 before exploding, then youll need a bunch to take on say just an Idris, let alone Javelins or Bengals/Vanduul shitter caps. At which point i think you can achieve much more operational efficiency with a polaris or two, rather then a full wing of tallies.

Its too good vs things its not really meant to go after, but not good enough vs its seeming intended targets.

She also doesn't fight fair. She believes in honor off the battlefield, not on it. She'll shoot you in the back, set you on fire, cut you down with automatic weapons fire, and even use chemical agents.

There is nothing confusing about it. He was telegraphing that they won't need a PvP slider, most likely because of the truck stop idea.

The most compelling evidence for lack of PvP slider is in pic related where is say "restricted vice". I take that to mean there will be trade runs between truck stop and port that will be high security low risk. Getting the high reward high risk raw material to the truck stop will be where the money making and piracy will be at. It's a pretty clever gate, if it works like that.

That sort of claim need to be posted said interview in order to verified, we easily get bogus logic like >>170741262 or goons self-deluding in SC becoming EVE 2.0

The PvP slider was dérived from how seamless Instantiation work
It go like this :
Since only 50-100 players can appear at once place, CIG will filter group of players who want to be together and those who don't, and since we had NPC for instance with less players, then they will be able to separate players as they wish.

So the only way for PvP sliders to be abandoned would be for SC to lose instantiation. They want to but a 200 players meeting would definitely crash the game.

Once you get to understand how it work there's no reason to be against a feature that wouldn't make a difference beyond offering a choice. PvP will still meet as many players and NPC (because slot are left free) and PVE would just look like a day with .

Everything you are talking about as far as instancing was described before the shift to amazon when they were talking about streaming between server shards. There is no need for that with the container system and the new networking. The limit for player load and therefore player count is as far as the amazon services will scale, which is fucking massive.

There is no solo mode pops. You gotta play with everyone else. Better stay inside comm range, always.

Found a somewhat decent trading run, only have 104 cargo space (if I replaced my shields I'd have 112 but it doesn't seem worth it, and I'm so bad at landing I need it more for that rather than interdiction)

Getting about 3.5k per tonne on one leg (just 3 jumps), and about 1k per tonne on the return.

Problem is, I don't seem to be advancing particularly quickly in the trading rank (done the route half a dozen times or so and only went up 4% or so, making just shy of half a mil per return trip.

Is this normal, and is the requirement to level up just large, or am I doing something really inefficient? I can get a similar amount of credits in boom delivery missions but they don't seem reliable (some stations have 3x300k to the same destination, some stations have none at all, etc.)
>>
>>170747808
Should specify I'm at merchant rank, which only took 1 mil credits to reach (iirc).
>>
>>170747808

>want to advance trading rank

Go to Aditi and fit your w/e (I used the stupid type9) with cargo racks and economy passenger cabins, take all the data delivery/goods transport/economy passenger missions you can. If you get a message telling you to sell your passengers for four times the original price, take it and make mad dosh in addition to the boost to rank. Went from Entrepeneur to Elite in three days with added hatred of oneself
>>
>>170748105
>>170747808

I should mention, only take missions to the neighbouring system and back, don't take the ones that take you all the way back to the bubble. Easy success, just watch out for the pirates.
>>
>>170748246
Is it a substantial enough difference?

Using just a type 6 right now, 6 mil or so from the type 7 (the 17mil one)
>>
>>170748394

Once I got allied with the factions I'd pick up 1-2 million credit missions (the data delivery ones were always 100k ish) consistently, and the occasional 'sell the innocent aid workers into slavery' option would quadruple it.

I'd start with what you have and go from there. It'll be a while with the distance, but hey this is E:D

So what's planned for 2.6.2? Anything substantial?
>>
>>170747808

Rank requirements go up exponentially. The first few go by in a flash and then you'll be on the last two or three pretty much forever. You need a total of 1 billion in trade profit to hit Elite in trading. Note that payouts from trading missions also count towards this total, so it's not just counting your bulk trading.

If you believe every players are going to be in one-EVE like shard you mistaken.
Many people have problem understanding large scale, instancing is inevitable because of the size of the playerbase, you can't have 1000 players simultaneously present somewhere. EVE cheated by locking players out of systems and slowing down the simulation. Guess what CIG don't want to do ?

Amazon technology is hoped to make 64 players possible at all, bonus if with more players than hoped (they are aiming at 100 now, it was 32 originally). But the 200-300 players limits come from bottlenecks on the client side.

also, nice strawman. The PVP slider have never been about solo mode, it is more like playing coop PVE and filtering out retard and org-noise.

Once you have an LTI ship you can upgrade it to any ship they put in the store, but rarer ships are limited to things like anniversary sales or special events.

If they throw a cheap LTI ship on the store, like the rumored space bike, if you bought 2 or 3 of them you can use them to upgrade to ships you missed out on, even the Polaris or things like that.

I only have 3 months insurance on my game package aurora but it's not a big deal. The time actually only counts down when you're logged in if I'm not mistaken.

man, I just love the idea to use the Cutlass like military boarding choppers with sliding side doors for combat deployment or side-mounted person-controlled machine-guns.

From what I've seen the Cutlass interior will be designed to be purely practical which is exactly my thing.
>>
>>170789612
>it's a little too vanilla in style and execution
This describes the entirety of Star Citizen.
>>
>>170796987
>designed to be purely practical
>a million billion bits of edges and points that is great for snagging your gear
>grated floors great for losing that tiny screw you need in when you're doing any kind of work
>everything is exposed so you can cripple the ship with a fucking knife if you want to
>only the least useful door has an atmospheric shield
>low bars hanging from the ceiling that have no conceivable use
Eh.

It'd be more practical if they put some flat thin steel over all the exposed surfaces so that it looked more like pic related and less like something that hasn't even fucking finished being built. See how the walls and ceiling have panelling?

It's retarded "CIG-sthetic," aka aiming for realism and overshooting the mark and just becoming grimderp.

What's wrong with it?

Also, is the Redeemer a bad ship?

I'm wondering if I should switch my Cutlass for one of them.

>>170797870
The vanguard model is just kinda shitty and loses the whole feel of the original concept imo, the interior also has a lot of wasted space.
the redeemer apparently doesn't fit with the universe for some reason so they're going to redesign it, would recommend waiting to see what it's actually going to look like before you buy it.
>>
>>170798251
So there is really no point buying a specific ship until it is reworked at least twice unless you just want to give em money right?
>>
>>170798065
Oh wow look at the fucking ceiling panels and solid floor and total lack of exposed ducting/insulation.

Just browse through your own link and you can see that 99.99% of helicopters and navy vessels have wall and ceiling panelling because it's cheap and light and manages to prevent a million problems.

There is NO FUCKING REASON not have panelling, and that's why everything from your car to the fucking space shuttle has it.
>>
>>170800412
Also
>inv4 a zillion pictures of WW2 bomvers and 1950s era transport aircrafts are dumped in response
Only the old and shitty craft don't have panelling, which further makes my point. Panelling is useful and that's why it exists. You have to go back to early cold war era shit to find really good examples of craft with a lack of panelling.

That depends on how it is used. Going head on into a large fight with actual combat ships would probably be monumentally stupid. Equipping it with an interdictor and using like the tip of the spear for piracy make more sense.

Practicality change with functions. Everybody who board combat vessel/aircraft are supposed to be trained to prevent accidental damage in the first place : that's a job requirement. You don't want sloppy dumbass who need training-wheel to walk right and you don't make soldier/pilot out of someone with no self-control.
In fact you want to encourage people to be casually prudent and extra cautious when doing anything that ask to be cautious.

Paneling won't protect any equipment from any weapons, quite the contrary it would prevent you from seeing right away if an important circuit or pipe have been damaged (especially if it's inert until you need it). This is also a waste of time and space to remove for repair and maintenance.
You spoiled civilian believe that "clean & functional" mean iPod so you never have to bother cleaning it. Engineer & Military man know that "clean & functional" mean seeing that everything is built and working right at anytime.
If a system is built right, then you won't damage it without tool anyway.

And that's why the inside of military plane look like this.

CIG's ways are beyond logic.
They also started the last Free Fly on 2.6.0
=> worst possible impression of 2.6. Then released the patch when Free Fly was still active, making potential backers redownload the entire game again
=> worst possible impression of the launcher. Free Fly ship back then was the Connie, impressive, but one of the buggiest ships.
=> bad impression of the multi-crew functionality.

They could be doing it better.

I'm not seeing how half of the ships in the game are going to have any actual practical use.
>light fighters who provide no advantages over heavy fighters due to the flight mechanics
>long range fighters who get btfo by local short range fighters
>drop ships implying anyone is going to want to sit in the back of one instead of flying their own ship
>data interceptor implying every org isnt going to use a 3rd party program
>cruise ship
>the gladiator
>alien ships that are just shit at everything although in this case i think it's ok for collectors items.
>search and rescue like i'm going to wait hours for some retard to come scoop me up.

>light fighters like 325a and Bucc are outright faster than SH or Sabre which will matter once we aren't fighting in a phone booth.

>325a and Vanguard have much further ranges and can operate independently for much longer. Combat ships have pretty small fuel tanks and will need refueling support to do anything far away.

>drop ships. Personally, I'm not going to leave my Cutlass unmanned for any reason. If someone on the team has a problem with being in the back, then I will be the one to take the other ship, or attack a base , or whatever. Otherwise, the gamescom demo clearly showed why you want close air support on ground missions.

>3rd party programs. Orgs have their own private chat channels. It's their intention for orgs to be able to keep secrets. What you want will be in game.

>cruise ship. I have no idea what their plan is with that. Probably just the largest hangar queen.

>the gladiator. gotta give you that one.

>hangar queens. The Glaive is sick as fuck, the rest of them are trash.

>SAR. There might be a gameplay reason to avoid dying at all costs. If you look, there is already a keyboard binding for a personal beacon. If a player doesn't get the mission quick enough, a NPC will, at least that's how other missions were described to work. It's reasonable to assume that SAR will be more immediate than cargo.

>npc missions. That's the trick here. Trade, piracy, SAR, repair, and escort are all NPC missions, and if no one takes a mission, then the galaxy just keeps on ticking. If you aren't fringe exploring or handling data from those explorers, then you are a part of that machine, and you get in where you fit in.

My only fear with this game is that everyone is going to be a pirate, like how everyone went jedi in SWG, and everyone is a sayain in DBZX2.

According to the ham planet, CR himself has made turrets a focus, so take that as you will. It will probably have better range than a SH.
>>
>>170815929
It carries enough rockets to instakill anything but a Starfarer in the current build, have you ever actually flown one loaded with S3s and S5s?

It loses a gun fight to a SH or Sabre, but 2xS3 guns is enough to fight a Gladius or lower and win, assuming you're not shit and can get on target and it has a solid change of winning 1v1 against a 7C even without using missiles.

Now thats if you're flying it as a fighterbomber and attacking bigger ships, if you just fly it as a missiles spamming interceptor against fighters, the S5 missiles each instafuck any single seat ship. The thing is all over the top of the Battle royale leaderboards because of how much ass it kicks against ships its own size.

Of my $2000 worth of ships my Glad is literally the only one I have never melted or traded because it has always been a grade A "fuck you and all your wingmen" missile boat.

Some guy recommended the Sothis/Ceos loop thing yesterday, got there this afternoon and unfortunately one of the stations is on lockdown (first time I've seen this so no idea how/why, although some googling indicates it will last until thursday)

However, I can still deliver missions there, and both the stations in the other system are giving me half a dozen missions to deliver at a minimum.

And it seems as though once I ranked up to Cordial, the locked down station is beginning to offer missions again, although I'm not sure if that'll keep up.

Sticking around because I'm getting about half a mil per trip, which is about the same as I was getting on my prior loop, but I'm gaining rep here which might be useful when the lockdown is lifted.

Hopefully by the time the lockdown is lifted, I'll have decent rep and have upgraded to a type 7.
>>
>>170815390
>prioritze shields
impossible for an AI. How would an AI be able to make shield distribution some kind of useful thing? The most it could do would be to even energy out at all times, as in "aft shield lost 50%, the rest are at 100%, even shield damage so all are even in value", and even then that should be a standard feature for shields. Even on massive ships like Idrii, the most it would take is sliding a cursor over a digital pad.

A primary use for NPCs would be dogfighting, which would be amazing for group attacks and shit.

>>170815929
false. The Gladiator has power in numbers. It's torps are still powerful, but when you have 5 of them attack a single multicrew ship it's GG. If solely for bombing, multiple gladiators would be more efficient than the obsolete Retaliator.

It's a side arm, its for when your primary is out of ammo, or you're in a place too confined to use a primary or you don't have a primary, or you've been wounded and only have one functional arm.

You know, like in real life, no one carries around an AR on their person 24/7 and no one who is going into definite combat carries only a pistol. It's a secondary, back up weapon not intended to be your primary means of safety.

If you just want to have a gun handy but not carry the weight and volume of a rifle and ammo, you carry a sidearm, so you can shoot a bitch should the need arise. If you know that there is likely to be fighting where you are or where you are going, you get a primary weapon like rifle or shotgun.

The game is not being designed for arena commander. In the actual game there will be plenty of reasons to put a gun on semi(Long range shooting) or carrying a sidearm. >mfw 2 of the 3 pictures you linked very clearly have fucking panelling, and other is the V-22 Osprey which is renowned for killing anyone who gets in it
Stop being a fucking retard. Even the V-22 has panelling in the crew areas, just not on the ramp where the only thing you're doing is walking through that space.

The only thing you have is the ceiling but hey, on those craft the ceiling is so fucking high you can't touch it without a ladder. The Cutlass has a much lower ceiling.

Meanwhile, have a look at this patrol boat and observe all the FUCKING PANELLING. Even here at the heart of the pipe mess that is a ship they didn't forget to finish building the fucking walls. There are pipes ON the walls, yes, but there are fucking walls there to keep things like insulation and electrical cables protected.

>muh panelling won't protect from weapons fire
That's not what it's for. It's to keep the walls' insides inside the wall and stop any retard weighed down with enough webbing to classify as spiderman from accidentally yanking a cable out of its mounting when his tactical escape dildo gets caught on it as he walks past.

No one in the real world carries a pistol you tool.

Crew have carbines near their stations and marines have actual guns. Pistols get handed out like participation awards to chaplains.

Also, who /combat chaplain/ here when the game comes out?

>Everybody who board combat vessel/aircraft are supposed to be trained to prevent accidental damage in the first place : that's a job requirement.

We have paneling on military vessels in the real world right-fucking-now because it turns out this is a completely unrealistic expectation. You could waste your resources training your soldiers to be world glass goddamn ballerinas for this solitary purpose and they'd still snag or bump into shit.

>Paneling won't protect any equipment from any weapons, quite the contrary it would prevent you from seeing right away if an important circuit or pipe have been damaged

Having a firefight on a ship is not a normal occurrence and you don't just carry on afterward like nothing happened before damage control does their thing.

>This is also a waste of time and space to remove for repair and maintenance.

Paneling is easy to remove and stow, and you can easily tell which areas you need to check, on account of the fucking bullet holes.

You can still do that in the Type-7 as the cockpit has a similar design and is at the bottom of the hull.

This also means you need to start taking the mailslot low in one of those because the top of the ship is far above you and will clip the airlock if you aim for the middle.

Just made 15mil in a couple of hours (no idea how long it actually was, got bored and started youtubing every couple of runs to break it up)

My biggest problem with this Sothi/Ceos memery, besides the fact one of the systems has apparently been UA bombed cutting profits in half because there's nothing to hand in on the return leg, is I'm just running out of mission slots.

50k per data mission, and upwards of 2mil if I get lucky and get a gold or other mineral ferry mission, and I end up using all 20 mission slots because they keep on showing up every time I refresh the mission page.

Is it normal for the local faction rep to be increasing at different rates? The top one has been allied with me since just my third or fourth run, but others are only just now hitting friendly after twice as many (if not more).
>>
>>170862304
Nevermind, just worked it out. Probably the fact they're having a boom, and so are giving out more (and more valuable) missions.

My buddy carried a pistols in adition to his M4 whenever he was on patrol both times he went to Iraq and when he went to afghanistan. Pilots carry pistols. Operators carry pistols. Cops carry pistols. People wanting to be discreetly armed carry pistols.

Most infantry carry a pistol on a lanyard with two magazines. You just never ever see them use it becasue its a backup weapon that markedly inferior to their rifle in every way. It's there in case the rifle fails, is lost, runs out of ammunition or circumstances, like the loss of use of an arm while still forced to defend yourself, dictate. It's not a plan A, is a plan C, what you fall back on when everything else is fucked, the shortsword or dagger of the projectile weapon era.

Uhh... "Good guns" as in, the competence to properly fight in PvP?

No. ForumDads don't PvP. They want to play Space Truckers. They equip their ships for Multi-purpose Carebear routines. Zero dedication for PvP.

So no. ForumDads want to bitch and whine about Millennials and younger groups, but they whine if they have to put in effort to actually kill someone who can PROPERLY use game Mechanics to Win.
>>
>>170891718
>how do I have fun
>proceeds to examples only about making money

Seriously though mission payout is based on rank/rep and can get into the millions.

>>170891956

My FDL isn't happy but my Cutter is okay with it.

>>170891960

If they have resistance boosts and divert power to shields while under attack it literally takes several minutes of sustained fire, and then there's shield cell banks. Only way to deal with them reliably at present is engineered torpedoes that damage their shield generator, which are situational and easy to counter.
>>
>>170892194
In truth, couldn't I just run a Burst Laser setup with the Bleed Through mod whilst sub-targetting their engine generator until it pops?
>>
>>170891956
>even more immune to Small and Medium weapons!

Shit son, the ONLY weapons in the game that don't have their damage neutered by 185 armor strength are torpedoes and SLF weapons.

185 hardness even cuts huge PA damage nearly in half.
>>
>>170892194
Oh... So it's too "Eve" for dads...
>>
>>170892394

Bleedthrough only does basic hull damage, it can't punch through to modules.

And the amount that bleeds through is tiny so you won't be killing anything with even the most rudimentary reinforcements.
>>
>>170891224
That dad is absolutely right though, fuck codbabbies
>>
>>170892419

Honestly think it's more because mega-cap and/or mega-resist shields make you invincible against AIs, who can't min-max engineer mods effectively like players can.

Players can actually dominate combat zones now, so cue shield nerfs and plasma accelerators (which all CZ AIs have and can bullseye with 99% of the time) ignoring a large chunk of the engineered resists most players have.

Of course they never were good at juggling multiple variables at once so they doubtless didn't account for the fact that this change will become pointless when massacre missions only stack to 3 and nobody ever touches a CZ again.
>>

What the fuck kind of operation are they running if they can't update the game without redownloading the whole thing? It would save them a ton a bandwidth

About to finish the Sothis/Ceos rep grind, all to ally, once I've done that I'm going to take a break and try and learn how to fight properly.

Type 7 is my main ship at the moment, but have a few mil spare to get a ship specifically for combat missions and the like. Should I go for the Viper or Cobra?

Viper if it's just for combat

i can vouch for the vulture's ability to tackle all manner of prey but the viper of either flavor is a fantastic ship with which to cut one's teeth inside on a serious budget. i remember being a lowly bounty hunter in allied space very fondly using one long ago

Daily reminder we wont see 3.0 before August.
>>
>>170928198
August 2018

>>170908970
By this point asteroids won't be a surprise and they have the tech to deal with them. Also significant impacts aren't that common in stable systems. Airless bodies only present so many craters because they have negligible erosion over millions/billions of years.

So this is where the real hype stops. It's now going crashing down?

Then in the far future, when 3.0 is released, its just a barebone of what is expected after such a long time which will make people even more disappointed?
>>
>>170929471

Airless planets also don't propagate impact shockwaves so you'd pretty much need a direct hit to be destructive.

no one was expecting mining to come in 3.0
>>
>>170931503
Is this confirmed?

But whats the point? I can mine this asteroid until my hull is filled and then hold onto it until 4.0 in december 2018 to sell it.
>>
>>170931503
Just wait and see.

Mining will not make it to 3.0 after all and will be put in 3.2 which will be 1 year after 3.0.

This is my honest guess.

Just give E:D a FPS mechanic and non-grinding content, and boom a SC-killer.

What's the difference between the different ranks of limpet modules?

Different sizes increase the concurrent number active, but the different ranks don't have any stat difference other than power draw and cost according to the sheet.
>>
>>170952820

It affects their range and how long they remain active for, and it's not a straight scale.

eg:
Rank A provides longest run time but only 2nd longest range.
Rank B provides the longest range but 2nd shortest run time.
Rank C is middle of the road in both.
Rank D has the shortest range but 2nd longest run time.
Rank E has the shortest run time and 2nd shortest range.
>>
>>170953819
Cheers.

Strange because the collector limpets show this in the stat sheet, but prospectors don't.
>>
>>170954124
Prospectors only differ in their range, and in that case it's a straight scale from 3KM for 1E to 12KM for 7A.

10ftc about 3.0 tomorrow

actually excited. tell me 3.0 will fix everything chris
>>
>>170957749

the only thing i can think of is that somehow you landed somewhere you're not supposed to

maybe inside the same area occupied by the (cluster of) ship(s) stationed next to the scan target

when you took off the game was like "dude what the fuck you can't be there" and at the same time "dude you can't move from there you are inside another physics object" and then it bugged out and hardlocked
