Any of you nigras remember gauntlet?
I recently reinstalled and trie dit out again and it was really fucking fun. Especially how you have to tactically think and target specific groups, take out some enemies before you could engage the big guys.
One key element in this seems to be a bigger screen size and abilities that knock back.
Why are there no other ARPGs like this? it's always just chewing through unending hordes and clearing unending ammounts of loot.

Why does the only way that ARPGs seem to be able to scale their game be to simply buff up vanilla mobs and increase the slight annoyances to major bother status? Why does every ARPG have to end in an endless quest for nothing but higher NUMBRZ?

You can't stack up ED damage so all you'd have to do is either keep casting Wither (or just use it as a totem as I did) and then hope or run from the enemies and keep contagion and ED up, hoping it will kill them.
Trash falls almost isntantly, but bosses take a while.
If you want a similar but funner build, go scorch. With scorch you can actually stack up dmg and pretend the spell had an actually decent sound effect.

I'm a relatively inexperienced player (47 hours played), and I cannot get through Act III without dying.

I'd only really dabbled in PoE before 2.6 released, so I decided that I'd try to see endgame content (since people say that's where things get really fun) when 2.6 came out. I'm really trying to get a lightning-spells Witch to work. At first, I was going for a CI build and was going very slowly. I'd do all the side quests, kill most mobs in every zone. After hours and hours, I got up to the end of Act III and died against the boss.

I looked at how other people leveled up characters, and saw people just ran through instances, barely killing anything. So I tried that. I got a witch up to Act III and died. And again. And again!

More research: I saw a lot of people saying ES builds are really difficult. Okay, maybe I'll go for a normal, life-focused lightning-spells build. Open the witch tree, head left towards life + elemental damage stuff. I've died twice now with these "normal" builds!

Are there any hints for how to level without dying? I really like the idea of HC, but I'm getting a bit frustrated grinding up and dying before even completing Act III.

Witch (imo) is a hard starting class for a new player for the reasons you state - low amount of life nodes, have to choose those over damage, more energy shield than life nodes (requires good gear and specific items)

What boss exactly are you dying to, Dominus? If so, an energy shield build will die relatively easily to him in the early game due to not being able to sustain it without constant abuse of portals because of the blood rain and swarm of mobs he has. Life potions remove all of that as a problem.

If you are playing non-ssf, you should try to buy a granite flask off someone. They are extremely useful for getting through normal and cruel due to the massive amount of armour they give which means big damage reduction early on. They require level 27 to use. use the website poe.trade to buy stuff since trade chat in game is full of scamming kikes.

Regarding killing or running through zones, it's sort of dependent on your knowledge and skill. Knowing what to kill and what to ignore, and what you can and can't kill is massively important and both only come with knowledge of the game. For example, seeing a blue pack (5x XP per kill over white mobs), you'd kill it. However, if this same pack is accompanied by a dangerous mod, let's say, Otherworldly (+loads of chaos damage), you may choose to skip over it due to danger.

Bosses are another thing entirely. You will die against Act 4's boss if you are struggling with Dominus. Again, it's another thing that comes with experience. For once, git gud isn't a meme.

Personally, for a first character, I would recommend a Marauder. Since you like spells, you can do a fire/burning Marauder, as he does well at that. Templar is another. No class is limited to any one build in PoE, just others do it better than some.

You'll get there eventually mate, we were all shit once

Is leech affected by things that make enemies take more damage (e.g. Wither or Shocked)? My reading of the wiki says it is, but I'm having a hell of a time sustaining mana with 90% reserved against a single target. Like many, it seems, i am new to POE. I did play D3 but not for a bit after RoS was released... whenever that was.
Anyway, I have a lot of questions and i Know the general consensus is to play the game to learn, which I am doing - level 15 Shadow so far - dual wielding and fire, trapping machine. Very fun.
First, anything I should read? Pleasep oint me in the right direction. The wiki seems a bit outdated and the youtube video was from 2013... :/

Next, some questions:

1) What the heck does a legue mean.. are they like seasons that D3 has? 2) what do i do with all these leaguestones that are dropping? 3) I understand the Gems, sorta, but whats wit the lines connecting them? Is there a bonus for connecting them all? 4) Support Gems... whats the difference between them and a regular one? Does that mean they are passive and dont add a new skill?
Just trying to understand as much as i can ASAP. The game seems really well done. It may not be quite as pretty as D3 was, but its damn good and very fun to play... I want to try all the classes as I usually favor the ranged chars from other games (hunters, Mages, etc.)... Just chose Shadow to level for awhile and learn how it all works..

There's a maximum ammount of leech you can receive per second. So if you don't raise that ammount you can do 120000000 points of leeching damage per second but it will take forever to actually apply that leech to your life/mana.

played this shit for a few days and its just horrid. What I cannot stand is the horrid character animation the characters look like they have arthritis. There is no substance when attacking a enemy it feels like some fake atari game. The so called impressive skilled tree web looked impressive at first until I realize I wasted my points leveling bow and arrow for my tank. I mean I was going strength until i realized it was more effective to use a bow and arrow on your tank than level str points and go melee and then you realize enemies are jumping on you later on so now and arrows are useless. By now the damage has been done. Now I can appreciate Diablo3 for what it is and thank god I don't have to waste time on skill tree and its done automatic. Are these people for real? The people who are making this game loves to brag about them being hardcore ARPG fans but they lack customer service skills. Its not about what you want its about customers want and trust me customers do not want that. That hardcore ARPG design is annoying and a massive inconvenience in this day and age. Diablo 2 was good for its time but its horrid in this present time. POE is one of the worst Diablo 2 knock offs I have ever seen. You have never seen such a slow and boring snoozefest in your life. The game it self looks like a 2001 lord of the rings game that I had on my PS2 except the graphics on that was better and animations were light years ahead. Admittedly Diablo 3 isn't exactly the fun now as it use to be when I first got it. But POE its just bad in my opinion. I now see the lead developer for POE is a clown when he said games today their art are too much like cartoon and that he has the solution. Making it look realistic. I conclude he is clueless about what is great art. No one has mastered great art like Blizzard and Valve.
