I got the same feeling. Played through it once, had fun with the minigames and seeing old squadmates, then was completely jarred by the weird tonal shift of the DLC versus the main game.

I have horrible autism so once I was like 70% of the way through I decided I had to finish it.

It's mainly just the Time Trial and Hunts that are bullshit because sometimes you just flat out don't have enough enemies spawning for the Hunts, or in the trials 2 enemies will run in different directions and use Immunity so you cant kill them before they get away.
