The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.
Whether or not a game belongs in /egg/ is a case by case matter, however games that would belong in /svgg/, space voxel games general, are automatically considered /egg/

WebM for physicians:
>gitgud.io/nixx/WebMConverter.git

List of currently known and vaguely not as dead /egg/ games (this list is not fully inclusive and if you think a game might belong here, feel free to ask):
>Algodoo
>Avorion
>Besiege
>Chode - Children of Ded Earf
>Empyrion - Galactic Survival
>Factorio
>From the Depths
>Garry's Mod
>GearBlocks
>Homebrew - Vehicle Sandbox
>Infinifactory
>Intersteller Rift
>KOHCTPYKTOP: Engineer of the People
>Machinecraft
>REM
>Robocraft
>Robot Arena 2
>Scrap Mechanic
>SHENZEN I/O
>Space Engineers
>SpaceChem
>StarMade

Games that are definitely not /egg/:
>Minecraft
>The general that quite literally cannot be named. The Mexican scam artist one. With the shitposters. Fuck off.
>Hearthstone, found in the hearthstone general, /hsg/, not in this general.

Information about these games, such as where to get them if they're not on steam, trailers, /egg/ conquered/hosted servers, and other shit can be found in this pad:

Hydrogen is best used for a ship that goes between space and atmosphere
>>
>>170587123
I'd heard from a friend that it had apparently been massively improved. He couldn't give me a source.
>>
>>170586619
One large cargo container and a light framework fully loaded with platinum with 1x inventory settings takes at least two large atmospherics to even get lift, or one large hydrogen and a few smalls.

I'm trying to build something that doesn't look like a cobbled together shitpile thrusterblob that is capable of taking full loads off planet, and I'm trying to do it vanilla so I don;t have to do a complete overhaul every time I join a new server. I can't count how many drills, welding ships, and trucks i've had to design from scratch because of wildly different modpacks.

>>170586928
>pic
>masses of ugly thruster blocks
That's what I'm trying to avoid. Atmos won't get me high enough for ions to kick in, and hydros are exceedingly bulky with limited flight time.

>>170587295
Have you considered that that's what I'm doing?
>>
>>170587342

>massively improved

They cut teams down from 8vs8 to 5vs5 and shrunk all maps by 20-25%. Then they removed the stupid towers you had to shot to capture map locations, and made them just circles you sit on for 10seconds to capture.

Nothing else changed. Its still a heap of hot garbage.
>>
>>170587463
Maybe install aeromods and build a cargo plane instead.
>>
>>170587463
Let me clarify.
Hydrogen is best used for a ship that goes between space and atmosphere, but only while going between space and atmosphere.

Yes. Capping the points makes you a sitting duck.

The worst thing is that the enemy team can capture points in chunks. The capture bar on each point is split into 3 chunks. So if some fag sits on the point enough to fill 2 bars and then gets chased away, he can just come back the instant you leave and cap the last bar the rest of the way in like 2 seconds and gets control of the map location.

So it means idiots can just keep suiciding at capture points non stop and they will eventually win it even though you've killed them 10 times in a row trying to prevent them from taking it.

>they kept the old capture system

Further evidence they have no fucking clue what they're doing, and anything good they've ever done was purely accidental.

They should have broken it down into 2, at most, with the second chevron taking slightly longer. Or just not at all and have a similar cap system to wot, where you lose all progress when you're hit or leave the circle.
>>
>>170587680
Considering it's ideally a ground-to-space cargo craft, atmospheric travel should be minimal. In order to get quality lift, for every cargo container I would need three large atmos and two large hydros. I need three tanks for every two hydros to get up to 9.7m of hydrogen time, just enough to get into space where a handfull of ions can kick in. We're talking a 32:3 ratio of JUST lift thrust:cargo, before factoring in lateral/forward thrust, power, conveyors, gyroscopes, life support, landing, hull, etc. I'm better off using three large hydros and 4 or 5 tanks per cargo for primary lift.

You dont need hydrogen thrusters to last that long, you use atmosphere thrusters to get up until they start losing significant efficiency then you have a quick and powerful burn of hydrogen until you can use ion.

>>170589367
Can't you just get to upper atmosphere on atmospheric thrusters, then continue on ions?
>>
>>170589367
reevaluating my numbers, it still takes 6-7 minutes to get into space, but it looks like I do only need 2 minutes of hydrogen barring any unforseen issues. So It looks like 4 atmos, either 2 large or 10 small hydros, and a single tank should get me into ion range. I'm too tired and KEEEEN'd to continue tonight though. Down to about a 20:3 ratio though, and that's much more workable.

Good night /egg/

Is it worth considering setting up hangar doors next to windows to act as preventative shielding and/or breach sealing? I think I remember plenty of talk in the past about hangar doors making really good armor, and I really like the idea of hitting a button to seal everything off in preparation for combat, especially the bridge.

I've used them as a debris shield on my station sized tow truck ship, as well as an emergency atmosphere entry ship as an effective heat shield with the aerodynamics and deadly re-entry mod.

The debris shield works great at blocking chunks of hull when ramming into running ships, and while my setup doesn't protect the whole cockpit its a great "dont let the pilot become a red smear" shield
And as a heat shield it takes a considerable amount of time to burn up on re-entry, so much so that if i could i would cover the whole ship in them.
>>
>>170596814
Have you compared them to blast blocks for the re-entry bit? I'm curious how they hold out.

>Is it good?
I got 100 hours out of it, and it was pretty fun for the first 95, but after those 100 hours the game, I have zero urge to play again until I see some major content additions.
Dev seems alright though, so I'm feeling that there's a good chance that will happen, though it'll probably be slow.

tl;dr
It was fun enough to beat the dollar per hour rule five times over, but suffers from a lack of reason to re-play it.

Christ. I'm mad that starmad uses fucking java of all things, one of the worst damn engines that exist for video games. Also the reason development takes so damn long.

I actually spoke to schema about this, and asked why he didn't just use an existing engine to vastly shorten development time. He said he didn't feel comfortable not having 100% control over everything, which is fair, but it doesn't seem to have helped him much in terms of development and bugs.

Mostly due to choice of engine. Scrumbleship was a custom engine, and is still fucking being developed. Very slowly.

Blockade runner used some free microsoft shit that had its support dropped, and they moved to unity early last year,

Corneroids... I actually forgot what engine that used, but I assume it was custom. The dev just got bored and wandered off, it seems.

I forget if there were any other voxel space games, but the pattern seems consistent.

Soon dammit.

We got the tracks in nice and good, at least the first pass like the wheels, they just need to be implemented into the builder and properly textured. For them to work properly we need to do some more framework, such as limiting placement and clipping in the builder so the system knows what the fuck is happening without specific tweaking. Retard proof, if you will.

Please excuse the odd lighting, this is the testing scene without any nice shit.
>>
>>170614189
There is some merit in a single player spinoff if multiplayer does slow down the dev process as much as he claims. Now he can spitball ideas more quickly and easily and port the ones that work to ftd. theoretically.

Gonna call bullshit on that one for you, but everything else checks out. every time you change something, mainly how something works, you have to spend at least a few hours tuning it to function in multiplayer. So any new feature, like say, steam engines, require you to go back and recheck every reference and process that is synced over the network. Since FTD uses -I think- lockstep, this means that it has to be optimised to hell and back as well.
>>

I guess I just phrased that badly. I don't remember Nick ever dedicating any major amount of time to multiplayer outside of shoving it out, at least not as far as his posts are concerned. I don't really see how the exclusion of multiplayer speeds it up at all. Even then, the minor addition of even local multiplayer increases a game's lifespan tenfolds. If he were reasonable, he would consider the addition of multiplayer in the general future and plan ahead for it, programming the game to lend itself better for, say, more optimal peer to peer networking. But he won't do that, he's Nick.

It's not the multiplayer that slowed down the previous development. It's Nick's constant fucking "rebalancing" and adding of scattered, nonsensical features, as well as depending completely on the fucktarded community to q-test everything. A reasonable person would plan out the game ahead and get all the working systems in before balancing out all the gameplay, since the balance will inherently change with each new addition. But Nick doesn't do that.
Nick's method also leads to quite a lot of bloat, since he just keeps shoving more and more bullshit on top of old bullshit, then removing or changing around said old bullshit as he "rebalances" it. It's no wonder it took him and N3X15 fucking months to get over 30 FPS after spawning in a decently sized ship.

TL;DR: There is no use in hoping for FtD's return just as there is no use in hoping for a miracle. It's a glorified ship building game, and will stay that.

>>
>>170628086
I tested that when the wheels update came out, controller support enabled, using an xbox360 controller, so it might have changed (but let's be honest, nothing is ever fixed).
The stick behave like buttons, it either fires the thrusters or doesn't, so do the triggers.
While in first person, moving the stick makes you walk, run and sprint but not at analog speeds, it just cycles through the keyboard modes.
Same for wheels, they don't steer as much as you move the stick, they just either steer or don't, and they're either pushing or not.

IIRC looking/gyro controls behaves correctly.

The game probably doesn't support analog inputs for thrusters/wheels yet, and while you can make that work with the thrust override for thrusters, there's no way to fix it for wheels.

Whatever is first on the line gets guaranteed resources, so it might be as simple as puting the chips after everything else to pick up their scraps
It helps to have low volume (science production, construction items, military) and high volume (chips/copper wire) pulling independently from a central iron/copper source so they don't get in each other's way. That's easier than trying to balance the ore between two separate smelting areas and hoping one doesn't get starved

plus you could run around a spaceship as a lego man like a total autist.

Why the fuck would you call it something else, you fucking sperg?
In the OP, sure. /kspg/ in the OP immediately autosages and attracts any shitters.
But if you mention it in a post, what the fuck happens? The sorry waste of oxygen will start shitposting no matter what you do, whether you try to hide it with some clever fucking codename or not. Stop being a fucking sperg. He isn't fucking Voldemort. He's some retarded cumfart in fuck-knows America at his retarded cumfart computer. Trying to villainize him just ascribes more value to his pitiful fucking existence, and do you really want to validate him, you dicksucker?

No but really, there's nothing we can do to speed this process up. We're working faster than most dev teams do on 100k salaries for F R E E. Just got clipping prevention in so you can't jam a wheel through an armor panel or a strut through a cockpit or whatever, which will allow us to integrate tracks/drivetrain soon. Currently waiting for unity to unfuck itself so we can update eachother.

Also, to answer that one anon asking how the control of the damn things will work, your W and S keys will control the rev of the engine, you'll have control over the gear, a and d will turn left and right based on what it is. Should work out fine, if it doesn't there's inversion checkboxes.

>>170771612
>no collide in the phx platform :^)

Funnily enough, it already is. There isn't a rigid body on the platform so it clips through just fine. The issue has to do with how it was done. I'll just toss a hinge joint on the fucker and spin it and call it a day.

Hallway anon, this one's for you. Leads directly out from the back of the bridge of the ship I recently began.

Progress is slow, probably because I'm too detail focused, and am not entirely sure where I'm going with this thing. Mostly been making it up as I go. The bridge is basically complete and looking pretty good imo. Now I'm currently formulating what I want the rest of the ship layout to be, but I'm not sure what all I even want on this thing.

First decision I need to make right now though, is what I'm putting directly behind the bridge/where this hallway will lead. Once I figure the interior out, and the layout as a whole, the ship will hopefully start seeing quicker progress.
