It's usually better to stick with the prepromote Snipers since most archers have shit for bases. I got lucky with Rebecca in FE7 but most people are going to get something that doubles for single digits. And if you're not using a speedy Archer, you're probably stuck with something that can't do anything useful at all because of middling growths all over the place that go up maybe once every 3-4 levels at best stacked on top of awful bases.
