I'm doing storm call elementalist and its just too good. in merciless now and dual wielding sceptres, one magic I found in normal ledge with +1 lightning gems and I'm still using it.
the 3 link storm call in it almost one shotted merc hillock. Get a good timing with the shock + ignite conflux and you melt anything, its so fun to play around.
Maybe inquisitor has more deeps at very high levels of gear but I'm not concerned about that.

They do the same thing in effect, refill your life almost instantly after you get hit. The key thing to understand that most of the time most of your leech value will be wasted. Both of them get around this problem, but in different ways.

tl;dr
Vaal Pact heals much faster but stops when you stop hitting. It is better if you hit a lot and fast.

Endless Hunger is better in that it stays around for a long time, so even as you leap out of Izaro's chaos dunk barely having tanked it, you'll keep healing the hit. It is better if you do slow but very damaging hits.

Pretty much yeah. White strong boxes in cruel+ and all strongboxes with freeze immunity.

Tabula + 3 elreon jewellery removes mana issues. Other niche leveling uniques help too. Most leaguestones are skip worthy due to the level cap but I pick up nemesis (chancing) and bloodlines (champ packs). I typically don't farm an area unless an OP item is close to being unlocked. Like a 5 link to replace tabula, build unique, etc.

Flasks are important. At least 1 adrenaline quicksilver saves a lot of time. Granites are also good due to the moderately low mob damage that gets reduced to nothing with a granite. Seething flasks are god tier once you unlock hallowed flasks.

let's say you do 100 base damage and have 123% increased damage
that puts you at 223 damage against 0% resist
against -130% resist that would result in a 512.9 hit

No one who knows this game goes melee / life builds -- because they are far inferior to AoE and Energy shield builds.... Energy shield can get far higher than life, and with CI its the obvious choice to go long term.... People can get 18k ES with CI; and if you go life build maybe you can get to 8k.

Plus, melee have to contend with rare monster properties that wreck them.

Plus, melee have to try a lot harder in areas that involve traps...because traps are based on % health... With ES builds traps are a joke.

You know, this is a really tough subject.

The problem with having really good options is that, inevitably, everyone starts using them. For the sake of diversity, either they get nerfed, or the game gets balanced around them. The WAY that they get nerfed is that people complain about them.

If you had your way, nobody would complain about OP / strong builds, only complain when they got nerfed, so GGG wouldn't nerf the builds, they'd just rebalance the game around those builds. That would make a whole bunch of other builds now nonviable, thereby impacting the enjoyment of the people who didn't want to play OP builds.

The fact is, it is a legitimate concern to see a build start to centralize the game. You can't just demonize people for being concerned about the state of affairs. That's how you get people like /pol/tards and SJWs screaming at you for daring to question their beliefs.

By having the game be too imbalanced, you create a larger and larger rift between the three phenotypes. Your Johnny side wants to self-express, to come up with a neat, interesting build. When something is far too powerful and you see players complaining, they're not being "bitches" or "trying to take away your fun". They're characters with high amounts of Johnny and Spike. They'd like to be able to play an interesting build, but this other build is just so good that they can't enjoy any other build. They're stuck. Either they're constantly thinking "man, I wish this build were as fast as that other build", or they're thinking, "god, I'm such a fucking sellout for using the meta build again".

Proper balance is important. I've never seen a playerbase defend imbalance as much as the PoE playerbase does.

If you just buff things every time there's a problem, out of fear of alienating your playerbase, the end result is uncontrollable power creep. It's already happened to PoE. Arguably, the game is a worse game than it used to be. Clearspeed meta is a massive concern. You're not going to solve the clearspeed meta by making everything FASTER. That just emphasizes the importance of clear speed even more.

I see people with your mindset in every game, and I have no idea where it came from. Was it an Extra Credits video or something? I know I learned the same idea somewhere, but I can't remember where.

Balance is about BALANCE. The answer is almost always nuance. You want a mix of buffs and nerfs. You also want to avoid just straight buffing and nerfing things all the time - find a niche for every ability. Find a good reason why people would use it over another ability. If you stick to numbers, the game becomes very boring, very fast. Balance by numbers is important, but balance by design is even more important.

To add to this, you can have different TYPES of clear speed. Maybe one type fights small numbers of strong monsters. One type farms Uberlab, you know, handles traps and stuff. One type exclusively bosses. One type is good at handling difficult monster mechanics, it's not super fast but it can do more lucrative maps than the others can. Another type shines against hard bosses. Another type is our traditional clearspeed meta, where you clear large packs of mobs and move on quickly. Maybe another type is excellent at clearing out several thousand enemies at a time, Breach style. The death of IIQ and IIR have killed this one, but maybe one build gets its "clear speed" just from having exceptionally high-quality loot.

You can get your "speed", your progression, from many different sources. But right now, the issue is that some builds can just do everything well, and that the most important type of clear speed is the "current" clear speed, literally being able to finish maps fast. The most important thing is bursting the enemy down instantly and moving to the next pack before you can get hit too many times.
