Everyone thinks the Asari were written to be the ultimate gamer fap fantasy race, when in reality they're the perfect fictional race for the tumblr crowd.

And maybe that's what Bioware originally conceived of them as but that doesn't change the fact that they seem to be written to be a symbolic force of femininity. Also, in ME3 at least, Javik reveals to Liara while they are on Thessia that the Protheans understood the potential of the Asari and chose to uplift them as opposed to the other races.

The Asari actually were chosen to be the inheritors of the Universe.

It's great because they basically shat on the asari in 3, revealing that the only reason they're the main power in the galaxy is because the awful bigot protheans decided they would be the race they focused on guiding so they could defeat the Reapers, so they were moulded into who they are, instead of achieving it themselves.

I remember back when Mac Walters was interviewed for this game there was a specific phrase from him that jumped out at me: "write what you know" and I don't entirely agree with that.

I think you should start out writing what you know but branch out and try going in different directions with your new story or characters.

You're judging this from a very surface level perspective. Not looking into the symbolism of it at all. The intent was obviously to recreate the old sci fi trope of alien babes. Something that men like. It's not the surface level, it was the entire intention of the race. You can try to read everything else into it or call stripping empowered using feminist arguments, but it loses its power when you know it was primarily created by men to tantalize men. I think what I really liked is how they actually just agreed to casually bang but by the time he arrives in the cabin it's grown way beyond that and he just tries to make Shepard feel good and vice her. That they didn't kiss but touched foreheads actually felt somehow more intimate too, despite being a shorter scene than the others.

Miranda's probably the worst squadmate in the series desu, if only because she's a representation of ME2's hackneyed Cerberus subplot. Her introduction where she shoots a random guy who was helping you without evidence of his wrongdoing and then proudly states she would have lobotomized and enslaved you if given the chance, and actually tried to do that before being vetoed, makes Shepard look like such a fucking retard for going along with it.
