New relics that you have to draw from banners that when mastered, you get exclusive record materia for that character only. It sounds nice and some have cool effects (Red XIII's increases the duration of debuffs) but they really get annoying when you 1/11 them and have no relics for the character in question, especially because the relics that have the materia attached have no soul breaks.

I had Leon bursting in the beginning while Maria built meter for later mobs. Firion had shared shellga so Minwu went with Protectga. AoE poison asshole on wave 1 of this was bullshit with my setup.

It helps when you encounter 5 bomb waves. With protectga, they aren't too threating if you have Leon/Maria/Firion picking them off one by one to abuse their AoE physical.

Thunder Gigas will likely OHKO anything under level 65 with his opening thunderbolt if you aren't buffed or defending to start the fight.

Affliction Break (& Status Blink later on) is really for multiplayer and the rare shit with so many status ailments to deal with. RNG still sneaks in every now & then, plus the bullshit of certain attacks that would still be a 100%+ guaranteed hit after applying that ability. Those occurrences are so few & far between though; AB has paid off for the most part from what I've seen & used of it. Ultra Cure and Mind Break/down are good partners to it.

There's no hard mode even though people are begging for one. Maybe it'll be included with one of the DLC's. For now, there's a couple things you can do.

1. turn off wait mode. completely neuters the game.

2. limit magic usage. although magic has some cool combos, it pretty much nukes every non-endgame enemy.

3. don't pick up infinite air dodge. this will limit you to dodging only twice in the air before you will be hit or have to land before going aerial again

If you asked about what cards are "best" then you literally could have just googled it. There aren't really any "best" beyond just saying "Don't use the cone attack". Pretty much any combination of cards you can use is fine as long as you understand what they do and level them up. There's no way you can go wrong unless you pick 4 cards from jobs that aren't yours.
Crit resist is a great debuff. Main focused area cards do the greatest amount of damage of all cards and in an AoE as well so there's no reason not to use them if you're solo and/or an attacker. Second to them are the single target multiplayer cards but you can't 5* them so I'm not sure how they compare to a 5* strike/ja/cross.
