Yeah. The comic used to be known for how skin deep the relationship references were. Scourge courted Amy, Bunnie, Rouge, and Mina, but we can only estimate what actually happened.
Based on Amy's response to seeing real sonic next time she sees him, it's fair to say scourge and Amy made out. We have no idea what happened with Mina and Rouge probably went nowhere, but he certainly had his way with Bunnie, or at least as much of a way you can have with a robot girl.

Obviously shit like this is probably better off being out of the comic, but it's also partly the reason OC characters Razor are so much more interesting than anyone else.

We have been answering this question for years now and I'll answer it the same way yet again.
The expiramenting has been fun, but it clearly hasn't worked. We've been trying new things for 2 decades now.
Isometric 3D, Adventure, team, storybook, boost, boom, karts, hoverboards, fucking guns... they haven't worked.
You've heard this song and dance before, blah blah blah. It doesn't make it not right.

Go back to the roots. Sprite-based 2D momentum-based platforming. Classic Genesis sonic.
But here's the thing, we don't have to have this discussion anymore, because now they've done it. That's right, Sonic Mania will make Sonic great again. It will be an instant hit and will springboard a new Era of Genesis-esque sonic games for years to come.
The best part is nobody is being left behind. Boost Sonic will continue with Generations 2 (because let's be honest, that's what 2017 is) and while it won't be nearly as popular or we'll recieved, the few that do prefer that style may continue playing it. But over 20 years later, we FINALLY get back to basics. And it's going to feel great!

In terms of gameplay? Adventure, Adventure 2, and Shadow. Boost games to a lesser extent.

In terms of story and character narrative? Black Knight is probably the best in the series

In terms of music? Secret Rings is probably near the top because every track is good. Same with Black Knight. Shadow's alright too, and Adventure 2 is always a classic.

This is the easiest way to jump in without being confused. All you need to know is that there was a major event that just occurred where Eggman and Sonic altered reality to create a new timeline (think Days of Future Past). The characters start out with memories of the old time line but they start to fade away after a few issues.
THE PROBLEM WITH STARTING HERE: You missed the best part of the comic. Don't get me wrong, the so called "reboot" era isn't bad, but the vast majority of fans agree it still can't hold a candle to the golden age.

For the most part, it's not a huge problem, but if you get confused, check the mobius encyclopedia for references.

The complete experience, from beginning to end. I'd say it's worth it if you're up for it, but strap in, because after issue 50 things start to get pretty wierd for a while. You'll endure some pretty cringed stuff along the way, including some arcs that are just downright stupid. However, you'll also gain the purest understanding of the world that the comics build up a rendering appreciate the golden age even more when you get to it (and miss it even more when it's gone).

There was a reboot about three and a half years ago. Start with issue #252 of the main comic and #55 of Sonic Universe. When you're caught up from there, go back and start from the beginning. One last thing. There's also a link to Archie's Mega Man comic in the OP pastebin. This is because issues 24-27 are part of a crossover with Sonic called Worlds Collide. You can actually start with that, Universe 51-55 and Sonic 248-251 because Worlds Collide was written to appeal to Sonic and Mega Man fans who weren't familiar with the comics, like yourself, and it leads directly into Sonic's reboot anyway.

There was also a second crossover but it's shit and IIRC the pastebin doesn't even have those Mega Man issues.

Pay attention to the non-comic pages in each file because they'll tell you when Knuckles' comic starts, when the other mini-series happen, and when all the other specials, super specials and side issues happen. The comic was a bit of a clusterfuck like that, up until the everything was pared away leading up to the Adventure adaption. Once you get into the 80s in the main comic you're pretty much smooth sailing and only have to worry about the main comic until Universe starts after issue 196. There's also the Sonic X comic but it takes place in a completely separate continuity, with the exception of the very last issue (read it after #196).

Dark Ages varies from moderately hilarious to just downright dreadful, but they're not consistently terrible. There's even a few standout arcs and issues. As someone that's read a lot of comics over the last 15 years, I've read far, far worse.
If anything some of the cover art is good.

The recent sonic the fighters is my favorite arc ever in the Sonic comics if anyone is interested. 175-177 is probably my second favorite.

It's a complete no pre-reboot due to the history the two have with each other, but post-reboot societies seem to be both integrated and accepting of each other as equal sentient races.
