It's possible that you're dwelling on the details too hard, hence why you're getting stuck on just the "tutorial fight". Try to write down events into summarized pieces consisting of one sentence, then add details when it's all arranged as you want it.

How can that be though? If the entire physiology of the body is male, producing more testosterone and growing male features for most of their developing years, how do they turn out to be women?

Also how can a brain be in the wrong biological body? From about seven weeks the baby is already growing their sexual organs. I don't think this is an issue of biology here. It's determined way before any social pressure.

Anyway, I think the story could be quite inspirational and at the very least controversial.

I'll just say you very likely have no idea what you're talking about.

Even if being transgender was a mental illness (it isn't), one does not simply "get inspired" to fight their own mental illness. And what do you mean by "become normal again"? Are you saying people with issues or people that happen to be different from your ideas of
"normal" aren't normal?

the way to think about it is that lifting your leg moves the rest of the body up simultaneously. That includes the torso, the head, and the arms

Something else, you animate the lower half of each arm without moving the top. the motion actually comes from the shoulder, so you should be pivoting the whole arm to show that

On the front-facing one you also probably want some foreshortening on the legs: they should get smaller when they're further away. Right now it just looks like they're moving up and down.

But people get over depression, addiction, anxiety and other phobias. Why is it so completely insane to think that it would be different in this case?

As far as normal is concerned, going along with how biology and nature plays out in men and women. That's why CIS straight men and women are the overwhelming majority of the world. It's not my idea of normal, it's clear by the numbers. So by saying "becoming normal again" I mean going back to what they were born as: a man. .

Trans people don't ever decide to detransition, and if they do it is horrible for their self-worth and being.
Being trans itself is also not a mental illness. If there is any mental disorder from it, it's gender dysphoria, i.e. hating your body for being the wrong gender. The closest we've gotten to trying to get cis people to understand is saying, it's like if you as a man, suddenly had tits. Sure maybe for 10 minutes you'd be like "oh hell yea I'm gonna feel myself up" but then you'd have to deal with bras, with back pain, with everything else, plus having boobs in the first place. You'd most likely hate it and want to get them removed and feel awful about having them. That's dysphoria for trans people, and we're just trying to fix our bodies so we don't constantly hate them.
We do get inspired to get over dysphoria, but you don't "get over" being trans.

The interesting thing here is that the torso is basically just a 3d cylinder: the arms, legs etc. rotate as the torso "twists" around, so the shoulder/hips move back and forth horizontally so it gives kind of a waddling vibe.

Sure. Something else you can do, even if it's not super realistic, is to darken things that are supposed to be further away from the camera, the same way you do with the back leg in the side view. This can suggest the thing is further away without requiring line weight changes.

Trans people have a huge problem with depression. They probably have it the worst out of all groups. So wouldn't it be most logical to help them overcome that and find peace with their situation instead of pushing them to find discomfort in trying to be something their not and probably be publicly ostracized for their effort.

Also the breast analogy is not a good one. You wouldn't suddenly get them. Nothing like this is ever just a sudden occurrence. It builds up over time.

Here's the way I look at it:

-There's always gonna be someone who thinks it is shit and won't be afraid to tell you.
-Criticism is an invaluable look at your work from an outside perspective.
-Unhelpful criticism and mean comments are just par for the course on the internet and especially 4chan, surely you've developed a thick enough skin by browsing this site that it shouldn't really phase you anymore (in theory)?
-Sometimes ways to self-improvement can still be gleaned from impolite criticism. Instead of getting butthurt, being humble about it and asking people what specifically is shit about your work/what needs improving in their eyes has led to otherwise inflammatory people being decently helpful towards me in drawthreads.
-Because there is no place more brutally honest than 4chan, if somebody actually says they like your game they're probably being genuine, so even if five guys say "it's shit" and one guy says "wow, good job, Anon!" then hey, somebody liked it.
-Even if you made one of the best games in the world there's still going to be harsh detractors. As a gamedev you have to learn how to take it gracefully so you don't become pic related.

However in this situation, you were something and then were completely changed. A man is born a man but wants to become a women, which he never was. So he's in search of a wizard that will make him into the women he wants to be AKA take hormones to change his body and his mind. That's probably what messes them up even more mentally. Those hormones are what make the body completely off balanced. They are taking more than a normal woman would have to offset and disrupt their body to get the result they want.

Although technically yes, gender dysphoria/gender identity disorder is an illness and hormone replacement therapy does have some pretty bad potential side effects.

That being said I have nothing against transgender people and one of my best friends is ftm and a totally functional human being.

I look in the mirror every morning and see an ugly fuck staring back at me every time. I'd be way happier if I had a different, attractive body for sure. I lament the fact hat I wasn't born as a hunk with chiseled features. But that doesn't mean I can't have ANY happiness just because I look like neckbeard Danny Devito instead. And THAT'S a nightmare to wake up to every day, I'll tell you what.

I know it's not exactly the same thing as gender dysphoria, but learning to accept the way things are and make the most of it does not have a 0% chance of happiness under any circumstance. Even if it takes counseling or whatnot to achieve.

Eh. The quality of /vg/ threads always fluctuates. Especially tiny ones like /rpgmg/ where two or three people can dominate the whole thread when they feel like it. Whenever somebody actually posts demos and shit it usually goes up in quality for a while. Seems to just be a lull in progress right now.

In an attempt to stay on topic... has anyone here played Capella's Promise? Easily the best RPG Maker game I've ever found that uses RTP stuff. Nice and beefy playtime with a great treasure system and good battle balance, and the art that is original looks really good. Really feels like it could have been a commercial RPG on the PSP or something.

An interesting idea but if you want the MAIN character to be unplayable (at least in battle) you'd have to make him pretty darn likable during cutscenes. Or give him skills that pertain to other gameplay elements that aren't strictly related to fighting.

Just having sucky stats is enough for some RPG players to dislike a character. I think most people feel more attached to the characters they end up using during gameplay.

In both cases, the lack of control really hurts. Sure, it's fair that you're not allowed to unfuck things if you're intended to start from the beginning, but several points wouldn't be fucked from the beginning if you had more control.

Let us review the rules and guidelines of the collab, so we can see it through to the end.

In the database, at the Common Events section, you can find a copy of the rules, as well as a place to put dev notes in one place.

-When you pick up the collab, you have 2 weeks to a month to work on a chapter, then to submit it.
-A month deadline is the hard cap. Either you give it as is, or we look for another dev to work on the chapter and your current efforts will be null and void.
-Ideally, you keep in contact with the general so we know you aren't just goofing off. If the general thinks you ran off, we'll start looking for a new dev.
-There will be no more chapters after Chapter 10. It may end earlier depending on circumstance, but everything must be resolved by Chapter 10 (Epilogue chapter undecided).
-We are using RPG Maker MV, if it wasn't clear.
-Please respect the content that previous devs have made by not tampering with chapters other than yours unless necessary.
-It is good manners to have a save ready that begins just before your chapter starts, so that people who have played along previously won't have to keep transferring their saves.
-Try to keep stuff safe for work at least.

I really don't remember the first RPG Maker game I played. But RPG Maker for the PS1 was my first encounter with it.

From 1998 until 2006 or so I used OHRRPGCE exclusively and made somewhere in the ballpark of 10+ 'complete' games with that because I worked on them almost every day. It wasn't until RPG Maker XP that I discovered there were PC versions of RPG Maker, but I'm not sure if RPGM games even existed in the English-speaking internet before then.

The oldest RPG Maker game I can remember playing is an older version of Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis, but it wasn't my first.

Dragon Quest III but with enforced perma-death akin to Wizardry. Every character you hire is one of a kind with their own hopes, dreams and motivations.

After you let 20 or so characters die the game becomes unwinnable because there's nobody left to recruit. Campaign would probably be 3~4 hours long if you never get party wiped, but would require lots of pre-planning, scouting dungeons and varied battle strategies to get through unscathed.

Maybe randomly generate everyone's names and appearances so they really are dead forever even if you start a new game.

As far as I know it's impossible to make an RPG Maker game that can't be easily savescummed though, so it just falls under "want to make".

They have social problems; racism, collectivism, individualism and other ideologies compete. The physical differences of the groups are minor, and he has the ability to scan them(without their knowledge) and see their physiological data. It's not quite known why they fight, but the physical differences as well as the ideology divide them. They all ask for the space traveler's help.

As far as combat is concerned, still tentative. He would be way more powerful than most anything on the planet because of technology. But that also makes him a huge target.

I'd like to toss around thoughts about rpgs and arena/colosseum fights.

Do you guys think a game that's entirely about climbing the ranks of an arena fun?
What do you think of progression of such games?
What kind of storytelling could that sort of game even have?

I wanted to make a game sort of about this, but every other game I can think of that's like this either becomes samey as it goes on, or is exceedingly short or easy. I'm not sure how to make it work by myself.

Progression is important, if you are a no-name scrub then you should have no chance against a high ranking fighter.

I've been using RPG Maker since 2000 was first translated by Don Miguel, and I've never finished anything. I just want to finish something. Is this shit worth continuing?

Basic story is this: Protagonist is a young adult who idolizes the hometown hero currently on a journey to defeat the ancient evil and decides to get strong enough to go out to the ancient evil's lair to meet him by doing side quests for people around town. Ends up changing people's lives a la Majora's Mask and giving the hero the inspiration he needs to beat the ancient evil.

I've been thinking of ways to make it pretty open and have multiple endings based on how you help and interact with people (or if it all), but I don't want to spend too much time on it (you know, so I can actually finish it), so probably not.

I'm not planning on using anything but RTP because I'm not good at making graphics or coding. I'm learning, but I'm also antsy because I'm so tired of preparing for the day I finally feel ready to make a proper game. I just want to have done SOMETHING already.

Now that you mention those games as well as studying the enemy, I suddenly remembered Fate/Extra. You had a week between every elimination match to study, train, or whatever, and you could encounter the opponent and learn about their abilities before the real fight. I didn't finish the game, but it had its own charm, and it was definitely a tournament format I can use as a reference.

So they can approve of each one individually before moving on to the next. Fuck those people. They'll take a whole just to respond to an email. This mostly applies to WRPGs which are all pretty damn similar in terms of world and races/monsters.

JRPGs are all over the fucking place in terms of monster designs, characters and worlds. And people will still call any given JRPG 'generic'.

And if you make an RPG even quirkier than what usually constitutes a JRPG, then it's an Earthbound ripoff.

The Great Plain isn't a playable area because it would be boring a hell.
But the in-game flavor text alludes to a cosmic horror that sleeps beneath, having crashed and sunk into a prehistoric tar pit. No civilizations have been established there because the primordial consciousness is so pervasive it interferes with normal awareness. Like a magnet interfering with a computer. You pass though it in a trance without a thought.
Scryers tracking movements through the plains have noted an unusual curve showing travelers unconsciously gravitate to a point in the middle rather than walk a straight path through.

Another curious matter is the mentally deranged and possessed. After passing though, their minds will have corrected themselves. And whatever demons were attached to them where pulled away, never to be summoned again.
A rumor that the Devildom will deny, but coincidentally interpret attempts to visit the Great Plains as an attempt to break demonic contracts.

I made a character creator for my last dropped project using events and stuff. Basically - I made a shitton of spritesheets(each for every gender, eye/hair color choice) and then let the players decide what they wanted using choice menu. Took a very, very long time and wasn't efficient at all, but it kind of works.

Anyway, I think I should still have it. If you want - I can dig into the depths of my old computer and try to find it, so you can take look at it. It's for VX Ace and the character creator is the only finished part of that "game".

I don't plan on having one, but if I did, I'd put them in some state where the body can't be retrieved, or make their body mangled/burnt/etc. to the point where your revive item won't make sense on them. Can't feed a pile of organs a revival herb

My idea is that the main character can infuse life back into people when they're on death's door. But if there's no body there's nothing he can do.

He goes nuts and makes a fake version of the party member that died out of grief, giving it life through his growing powers. It basically acts as that party member for the rest of the game.

Work is going very well on the collab project and my project as well.

For the collab I setup the skills for the 4 playable characters. Each character gains a skill every time they level, there is a total of 88 player skills in the game at the moment. They're not very complicated or anything, it works pretty well.

Man, you can get so much done in such little time with RTP it's sickening.

Also finished two maps in The Long Road, and I have a day off tomorrow to work on games all day!
