At the moment, I also think gamemode rolling happens BEFORE job rolling so that would have to change. I can't say I don't keep that close in touch with TG and its mostly when oranges or MSO ping me. Like earlier today MSO figured out a way to reduce the server crashes that both of us are suffering from under Lummox' glorious future of BYOND.

I believe that their tick rate is different than ours which has to do with how many times the server updates your movement. Ours is set to update very quickly which gives people that smoothness that they attribute to no lag. I don't know why they don't but it may be a byproduct of how many players they have to deal with. When we have a lot of players on the lag ramps up and if we increased the time between ticks we'd have less lag, but stepping would be more stuttery.

Well for Sybil at least? That's the more populated one right? We peak at 70~ players. They have an average of 70 players. When you have that many it puts a strain on the server and you're sending a signal to the server to update a mobs position twice as often when running /vg/ code so that's a considerable and maybe not even feasible strain on the serb.

The REASON we can afford to do it is all those optimizations we did. And even then when it gets up to 80 pop here you can feel the slight chug.

Best way to conceive it is that right now, each antag is a mind class with some objectives chucked in. Shit like changelings and cult have additional spaghetticode in mob code and gamemodes to get all their spells and shit working. Cult and heist are even worse because the gamemode handles all the group objectives, making it a huge pain in the ass to have multiple groups in-game at once for shit like mixed mode. The code is a gigantic clusterfuck.

Antag datums (antag roles) redoes all that. Each type of antag has its own class (role) which handles shit like setting up, equipping, and greeting the antag. Each mind can have multiple antag roles. Each role can have multiple objectives. Group roles are similar to antag roles, but are assigned multiple minds.

Simpler, cleaner, and supports mixed modes. We can make autotraitor dynamically add in not just traitors, but changelings, heists, etc.
