Wrong, AAA devs release plenty of incomplete material. Look at what Konami did to MGS5. Don't get me wrong, I actually did enjoy MGS5. The first three are still my favorite, but regardless MGS5 was cut short by the final chapter and really the conclusion of the game then just released by Konami because they want to turn everything into pachinko. Kojima gets a lot of flack himself for it, but it wasn't his call to cut it short.

Also FFXV is at best incomplete and at worst pure incompetence because of chapter 13. Really everything chapter 10 until the very end of the game. It is way more than a "pacing" issue.

The game characters lack a lot of chemistry with each other. Miyako and the protag's relationship before they get romantically involved has an enormous amount of chemistry. They are a perfect match and it's delightful to read their back-and-forth. It's well-written and believable.

Somehow, it all goes to shit once they get involved. They lose that chemistry. It shifts into a forced romance that doesn't have the same natural feel to it.

Oddly, this really helped the game's popularity. Most US readers were hooked on this VN BEFORE Miyako was translated. Her route, and a bunch of the side routes, were untranslated for ... what, 2 years or some shit?

Miyako was enormously popular during that time solely because her route wasn't translated. She came off better in the game itself, and people pittied her for having such a power unrequited love (unrequited because she had no route).

Majikoi has fantastic comedy writing, but it always falls apart when they try to ramp up the drama/romance, it seems.

part of the reason is that Miyako has a lot of experience attempting to romance Yamato since she's been doing it for years, once she succeeds at it she doesn't really know how to handle the relationship since she hasn't had any prior experience. Normally I'd call the drama in her route absolutely retarded, but outside her group of (highly abnormal) friends, she only has negative experiences with social interactions and hasn't built any social skills as a result. This to me causes the drama, while slightly annoying, to be a rather understandable hurdle to undergo.

Way fucking better than a lot of the drama in other moeges anyway. Hers at least makes some mild form of sense. Then you get the shit like in PE where it's so utterly fucking stupid you wonder how fucked up a dimension it must be for it to be considered "acceptable".

I agree. While I didn't exactly like her route, the drama in it actually made some sort of sense.

She always put Yamato ahead of everything else, even everyone else in the family, so when she finally gets him her reaction kinda makes sense, and the drama that follows kinda makes sense.

It was a bit disappointing to see her character take that turn in some ways, and I think that's why people didn't like it. But the drama made at least some kind of sense based on her backstory with Yamato, as well as her attitude to people who aren't part of the family.

That the route tackled this, and turned it into a route about self-improvement (for Miyako) was a pretty neat thing, and the resolution and after story were pretty sweet.

But I guess the execution could've been better, since they kind of went over the top in making Miyako act like a bitch for a while that Chris slap scene was pretty damn great to rectify that shit.
