When i map i have a loot filter where the only rares it shows are jewellery, jewels, certain belts, and 4 linked boots, helms, gloves with high quality base types.

If you have an unlimited budger it's been pretty well proven that low life es based builds give you the fastest clears and boss kills.

If you actually play the game though rather than jerking off pob all day, then you'll realize life builds are fine.

Well, a pathfinder with nothing but a quicksilver flask of adrenaline has somewhere around +150% movespeed, and going fast is fun.

Compared to the BF scourge assassin that I made this league, the PF's shaper kill time is only slightly longer despite having about 1/8th of the DPS against shaper because I don't need to dodge anything whereas the BF guy spends a lot of time dodging slams and balls. I can just sit there and tank shaper slams/phoenix fire nuke/whatever. Uber atziri is just about the only thing it can't facetank.

Only real change that was required after 2.5 pathfinder nerfs is running 2 vinktars instead of 1, which is cheaper than before anyway because the price of conversion vinktars crashed after that league.
Only change for 2.6 is you'll need PCoC OoS instead of PCoC+secondary BV. Or if you have enough DPS just toss PCoC in your 6L for casual mapping.

1. by virtue of being a 2h mace, the weapon is slow, has no as bonus, and a piss poor base crit chance of 5%, this encourages you to go RT
2. RT deprives you of EO, effectively a 40% more damage multiplier, or the latter deprives you of RT, effectively a huge accuracy loss
3. The left side of the tree which is where you can scale 2h maces and WED is very far away from the closest generic attack leech cluster (Duelist) which means your tree is spread thin if you don't wanna rely on your Vinktar and nothing else for leech, because generic phys leech that traditional melee builds use will do absolutely nothing
4. Because your tree is spread thin (from left side to Duelist leech cluster to WED/pen clusters to VP), there aren't really any good ways to get a decent amount of life like a typical 2h mace build would, so leaves you with either the option of a glass cannon VP Life or going CI (and still being extremely glass cannon by CI standards)
5. if you're going to rely on damage + Vinktar + CI to survive, why are you bothering with a melee build?

EO is simply not needed as your damage is already good and RT is more consistent dps. The fire version axe has the same crit and nobody uses EO there either.

Starting as Duelist makes getting the leech nodes then going left very simple and has been a staple for a lot of melee builds. You can still get lots of damage and nearly 200% life by around level 90.

It's simple, easy and very high damage while being pretty damn safe (slayer leech is actually fucking nutty and you can have high 6k low 7k health). You don't need VP and CI would be unusable doing any sort of melee travel.

The entire point of my post was that full conversion builds are significantly better than regular attack builds. So if you can convert you should The days of Physical damage with some random added elements like hatred/added fire are over. It's all about 100% conversion to elements then supporting it with Pens.

And as BR allows you to do conversions to lightning it makes it an inherently strong item.

Also you can use any skill that has no conversion, the entire point of the Area patch was to bring things into line with each other and splash variants so now its not "screen wide eq/cyclone or bust" mentality.

I have capped Crit and am a Pathfinder. My flasks will be rolled for the Experimenter's prefix. Along with my flask duration modifiers from tree and gear they will last 9.5 seconds each while costing only 24 charges per use and will gain 30% more charges, and this is without taking naturally gained flask charges or flask regen int account. It is trivial to reach 5.30 crits per second to INFINITELY maintain my three elemental resistance flasks in a worse case scenario.

Why? By losing phys damage you lose bleed/poison, two very strong DoTs that cost you nothing but a ring slot (Voidheart), you lose the 4% leech from Blood Rage too

Converting to 100% lightning makes your lightning penetration and WED 100% effective, sure, but is that enough to compensate for natural monster resistances (when physical/chaos resistance is much less prevalent)

The way I see it, 100 phys damage converted to 100 lightning (plus whatever P2L gem adds) is not a good deal unless you're absolutely certain the penetration shreds enemy resistances into the negatives

I'm not following, you still want Hatred/HoA and Added Fire too probably since those are added as extra post conversion and still much better than Wrath which is only useful for quick attack builds, not slow 2 a/s mace builds and even if you could replace them with Wrath, you're still working with a 50% aura reservation, so there's no "gain" here

Chaos/Bleed bleeds are something else. Poison is going to eat shit in 3.0 anyway. And for those builds its better to not convert anything for obvious reasons. These are not what I am talking about.

It makes every form of scaling 100% effective, all physical damage is turned into elemental damage and all elemental damage scaling scales your entire damage set. And with these builds you tend to have a lot of pen, 50% and upwards. This is a huge modifier to damage. Pen works on max res (not overcap) so even if the enemy has 2000% over cap, it's completely ignored by pen. It's essentially a -max mod on the enemy. It shreds everything.

No, you don't. There are other more modifier gems you want and elemental scaling that doesn't recieve your pen status (like if you are going lightning) doesn't add much but some tooltip inflation and not real world damage. Wrath is WAY more damage than Hatred.

If you fully lightning convert, you use Wrath
If you fully fire convert you use Anger/HoA and Added FIre
If you fully cold convert you use Hatred.

ZERO reason for melee skills (except for BF) to have indirect nerfs to their AoE when they are complete dog crap vs range/spell. ZERO. What GGG has done in this patch is inexcusable and insane. Not only that they LIE to our face and claim min investment in AoE is actually a buff, when it's not.

Duelist and Marauder are clearly the least used classes by the top league players already, many melee which is already AoE starved got destroyed as a result of their BS nerf when it should really be meant for spells/range skills that abuse AoE the most.

Calling this pure trolling after years and numerous patches ranging from inaction to outright nerfs to melee, is an understatement... at this point, it looks more like a stompfest and steady destruction of melee class with some intent behind it, for whatever reason.

I've made a topic where I basically have 'given up' my fight for melee, because it looks and is utterless hopeless with this balance crew. Ppl keep saying changes and balance are coming in 3.0 yada yada, we've heard that BS since 1.x, 2.0, then 2.3 then 2.5 and still either nothing, or even worse, they NERF melee some more.

Never have seen or heard of such horrid, incompetent and unreasonable balance in my life and these GGG guys keep giving the finger to melee loyalists in this game, Blizzard balance team are saints compared to these guys in my view.

One thing I'm glad about is that at least what they're doing is based on non-reality at the end of the day, if they demonstrate what they've shown from their 'balance' team in real life when it comes to fairness and balance, you'd be screaming discrimination and THEN they'd have real consequence and accountability to deal with.

Is there any point to playing HC if I'm not gonna be racing and dont have a group to powerlevel with day1 - and am likely to spend most of the league on SC? I've never played at the start of a league before, would I be better off making my first char on softcore and hoping I get lucky with early drops and get rich from them or does that not really happen?

Should I go crit freeze or just straight up chance to freeze? Crit freeze will obviously freeze for much longer and freeze things with more health, but it has more of a gear investment which might be a problem for a starter build and I don't want to one-shot myself.
Also haven't decided if I want to go life or CI yet, because it's a starter build.

This too was not written anywhere. I did not think only utility flasks worked when at full life/mana. This took a bit to recover from, but I have overcome these two minor setbacks.

Well If I must, then I shall drop my Divination Distillate flask for an Overflowing Chalice. This shall even further reduce my total charge per second requirement to an even easier amount.

Now for the tricky part of giving up Divination Distillate. The solution is simple yet requires a bit more work.

GGG fucked up with the newly buffed Victario's Influence. It is the answer with its massive Lv 30 Generosity along with the last bit of Aura Effectiveness on the tree that I did not grab before it is possible for one to power up a Purity of Fire/Ice/Lightning to strength not previously possible.

This however takes up the chest slot for auras. Immortal Call is now manually cast.

Blade Flurry is going in the Gloves which are now replaced with Rares with an Essence of Horror. The Increased Crit Gem is replaced with PCoC and boots are replaced with Skyforth.

Immortal Call is now manually cast.

And because Generosity forces one to not be effected by one's own aura's, The build must now party with a team member with an exact copy of the build.

This still allows 100% immunity to elements for infinite mitigation.

A rare belt with all three flask mods along with the pathfinder's nodes effecting duration, charge usage, and charges gained means I will need to gain 2.52 charges a second per flask for three resist flasks, so 7.56 per second for all three, and with the same rare belt and pathfinder nodes along with an Overflowing Chalice Active I'll be gaining 11.5 charges a second if I'm hitting the surgeon's proc cap.

I'm a huge fan of the books and when I came to PoE and found it was in game thought it was amazingly cool. But, everyone basically said it sucked and couldn't be used as anything but a leveling item
