Can't afford to buy all the Switch stuff right now, so I just got the Pro controller to use for PC gaming for now. Works more painlessly than the Wii U pro did, and twice as comfy. Anyone else got one? What do you think of it?

I'm still playing through Dragon Quest VIII, bit by bit, and there were a couple of strange changes I noticed in cut scenes.

I don't have a Mac, but the gamepad when connected acts as a generic gamepad so if Mac supports that over Bluetooth it should work fine. NFC and rumble don't seem to work on PC at least, though. I can confirm that on Windows (under Steam big picture) Risk of Rain works fine.

Windows' DirectInput is just the API for generic non-360 controllers, AKA what the Pro controller registers as, so you'll be fine. If anything you might need to map the controls in the game settings first.

Does anyone know if there are going to be supply issues for the Switch?

Something unexpected came up so I really shouldnt spend this money.
I did not preorder.
But there is a walmart that never ever sells out of anything. I called and they said they had about 18 in stock that were NOT preordered and will be for sale.

Every other store (and I called a dumb amount) said all were accounted for.

Should I be hood rich and try to buy one tomorrow morning, or will they be available in about 2 and a half weeks?

Also if you are on the hunt for a Switch, think about your local walmarts. The one weird one near me?

I was surprised they got any Switches at all, but it seems they have enough I might actually be able to nab one.

My router is invisible to my Switch.
Every other device can see it and connect to it without a problem but even when I'm standing right next to it, the Switch still can't detect it.
The router is broadcasting and everything. For some reason it's just invisible.

As a work-around, I'm having to use Connectify to use my laptop to share my internet until I can grab a USB LAN device.
It could just be an issue with my modem but I'm going to keep an eye out to see if anyone else has the same issues.

FRMX is just an enhanced port of FAST Racing Neo which was great (but suffered from bugs at launch which got patched out and rubberbanding AI that didn't) so I'd definitely recommend that.
If you've got someone to play co-op with (and can co-operate instead of arguing with each other), you should definitely get Snipperclips. I've just been playing it co-op and it's fantastic.
From what I've read, the ACA ports are great on the PS4. I was considering plunking down for Metal Slug 3. The screenshots look gorgeous on the Switch's screen.

Update didn't fix it but I changed my router(Linksys E3200) firmware, the hardware supports 5ghz but for some reason the version of DDWRT installed didn't. Since it turns out there was no higher firmware of DDWRT that did support it I installed Tomato instead and now both the 2.4 and the 5 ghz networks show up as well as the Wifi extender. I'm guessing I had the wifi setup in such a way that it wasn't compatible with the Switch, possibly to support some legacy device like the DS(if you can't tell it's been years since I've made any major setting changes) but the defaults of a modern firmware worked fine. Sorry that this probably wasn't much help(or legible), looks like my case was likely a bit self inflicted.

I got Metal Slug 3.
Coming from the Wii U VC it's like night and day.
Not as great as Sega 3D Classics but still a great port.
Lots of settings to tweak around with (including customisable controls and scanline filters if wanted), in-game manual (the Switch doesn't even have in-game manuals), single joy-con support so local co-op is easy and four seperate versions of the game.

It looks great on the Switch's screen and I haven't noticed any input lag whatsoever.
There is noticable slowdown in hectic areas with lots of explosions and bullets flying though. I haven't played MS3 on a cabinet so I don't know how it compares to that version. I'm not sure if it's intentional slowdown to emulate original slowdown but it seems to be consistent with the PS4 ACA Metal Slug version rather than a fault specifically with the Switch version.

Having played this, I think I'll definitely get more Arcade Archives as they come out.

Below C you feel the tier list hard imo, with the exception of the rare underated char in this chart. Top half of C and above might have 2 or 3 notably bad important matchups but are solid outside of those or have some super hard counterpick matchups against the very top characters.

I'd say keep a complimentary secondary to whoever you main and try to have an even or close to even matchup with Cloud between them.

Have you framed your JoyGrip yet?

So I found out why the Switch wasn't identifying (with some help from Googling and lurking on Gamefaqs).
For some reason (which someone more knowledgable might explain), the Switch is incapable of identifying wi-fi networks that are encrypted with WPA (TKIP). Changing my security settings so it's protected by WPA2 (AES) made it appear straight away.
If anyone else is having the same problem, do that.

Also Fire Emblem Echoes and Monster Hunter XX are 3DS titles coming out soon that will both cost in excess of 6,000 yen. Switch games get up close to 8,000 for non-special editions in cases like DQ Heroes 1+2.

I enjoyed the 3DS, but the LL was already at the limits of what I would consider usable on a typical train ride to work, and I definitely see more people playing games on mobile than on any dedicated gaming platform, which is increasingly rare.

I can go to the store right now and still find PS2 and PSP games on the shelves, and the Vita section is still meaningfully stocked.

Without the ability to close the system and protect the screen and put things into sleep mode, the Switch is going to be hard to take around with you I think. Battery packs to increase lifetime, reducing the size by taking off the joycons, there's strategies to make it easier to carry, but most people likely won't bother with the trouble.

Should I buy a Switch monday?

I don't feel like waiting months for a stable BotW release on Cemu and I feel like I can get a bit of mileage out of the Switch since I'm on the road a lot- the battery life doesn't matter much to me.

Snipperclips is fantastic but it's built around local co-op. You can play it by yourself and have a good time but it's better playing it with someone you love.
The Arcade Archives Neo Geo games are good ports.
FAST RMX is great in terms of gameplay as it's just an expanded port of FAST Racing Neo like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe but I don't know if Shin'en fucked up the launch with a shitload of bugs like they did with FAST Racing Neo (which was so bad that it soft-locked the Wii U every ten minutes when playing) so I'm holding off on buying it or recommending at the moment.
Bomberman is Bomberman. It's got a campaign mode with co-op and online play. It's simply Bomberman so you already know if you'll like it or not, it's just a matter of whether the price is worth it to you.

It's actually pretty good.
The game looks great on the Switch screen and it's got plenty of options to play around with. It includes the Japanese and English versions as well as two high-score modes (one to see how high you can score on a single credit with the restrictions of playing in an arcade e.g. no pause/ turbo-fire, standard difficulty and one to see how high you can score in five minutes with the same restrictions), online leaderboards, in-game manual etc.

It seems pretty accurate with no noticable problems. It also has emulated slowdown where the slowdown would be when playing on the original hardware which is good or bad depending on your perspective. It goes for emulating the arcade experience as much as possible so you have to manually press the button to add credits which is something I appreciate. I generally go for three credits when playing single player and four credits for two players.

Local co-op is easy to set-up. Just set up the Joy-Con in single Joy-Con mode and press the SR button on the second players Joy-Con to join in at any time.

Hell, it even lets you rotate the screen so you can play it with the Switch held vertically.

I'm really pleased with the port. I held off on buying any of the ACA versions on PS4 because it wasn't portable so having them on the Switch is going to be great. Apparently they'll be releasing one ACA game a week.

I couldn't find the answer to this question with google. Does the switch run at full power if plugged in while in tablet mode? I know it runs slower off the dock but I was hoping to play in bed at full power by plugging it in.

Switch is pretty bare bones right now.

Someone said they rushed the console out to appease investors, ect. So when people complain about no games, or the console itself being super basic (no netflix, ect), you have to remember the 3ds and the wiiu both were missing a lot of features. Hell some of the features on the switch are blacked out and actually say they will be added in future updates.

One thing that is for certain is that the hardware (outside of few reported defects and the switch's iffy screen) seems good. The joycon and the pro controller are packed with tech and work great for me.

How to purchase games from EU and JP store?

Is the Switch Pro controller any good? They're charging 99 dollarydoos for it and so far I'm perfectly happy with the grip that came with the console.

No online unfortunately. The PS4 ACA NEO GEO games didn't have it either, you had to work your way around it with Shareplay. It's a little bit disappointing but not a deal-breaker.
I'm in a PAL region so I just bought them from the EU eShop.
You can set up a EU or JP account and play those games from any profile on that console but they'll probably be on the NA eShop soon enough.

It's almost good but jesus christ there are some unforgivable things in there. I literally ran out of lives in the first level. 1st death was falling out of the map through a gap in the wall that I thought was a secret. Nope. 2nd was trying to figure out if monster spawning orbs were killable or not (they are, the game doesnt mention this), 3rd was the discovery that your own bombs instakill you, at least early on. 4th and 5th were trying to fight a monster spawner/wizard combo on a diagonal slope when you can only attack in the dpad directions.

Even with the knowledge gained from some of those deaths, the gameplay is still boring as fuck.

I'm suprised but I'm actually able to use the arrow buttons as a D-Pad when using the Joy-Con Grip.
The buttons are small enough and close together enough that my thumb can cover all the buttons comfortably and hit each one accurately in sequence just by rolling my thumb.
I tested it out on a game with digital movement and it's actually servicable.
It's complete rubbish when not in the Grip though. Your palm is too close to the side of the Joy-Con so you can't rest your thumb comfortably in the middle of the buttons.

For example, you couldn't use any exploits if you weren't on 4.x in 2013-2014, and you couldn't update to it unless you used a game with that specific update. The same goes for the WiiU right now, but it's not an issue there because the latest one is the one you want to have. But if Nintendo released a new one now, and you weren't on one of the latest system version before the new release, you'd be stuck.
