you realize ap scaling stays the exact same whether you're maxing the ability or not?

having E on a shorter cooldown is a lot more impactful than having w on a shorter cooldown. being able to stun 2-3 times in a fight is much better than stunning once maybe twice in a fight.

also the most important part that trumps everything else: your Q+E combo is insanely fast, much faster and harder to counterplay than Q+W+E combo or Q+E+W. you get the same damage out of only two abilities and you ult faster

oh yeah and if you dont OPW your W, you're giving it too much of a role in you're damage combo when it should be used to reposition your spheres. requiring yourself to do damage AND correctly reposition the spheres in one spell shoehorns the ability since you realistically want to be going for one or the other in fights

tl;dr your burst combo is faster and it frees up your w to actually be used as utility to get better stuns off

oh yeah, cool note, when your E is rank 5 and W is rank 1, they have the exact same cooldown. really helps when setting up stuns

although when I play her I usually put a 2nd point into W early on THEN max E because in the mid-game it enables your W+Q combo to instakill the 3 melee minions then you can just Q the caster minions once to kill them too. otherwise the W+Q won't completely kill the melee minions. nice way to do E max but still not miss out on waveclear benefits of a slightly higher damage W

Yes but the cool down goes down. Much shorter cd + higher scaling = more dps. That was my point there.

When you talk about multiple stuns a fight you're clearly talking about team fights and I just don't know man. I can't see a second/third stun being worth losing probably 30% dps especially when my stun is either used first (making the team fight a 4v5) or held for a specific engage (making maxing it wasting points).

I'll play around with it cause the last paragraph shows you know the champion intimately but it looks like you might be retarded.

And not that this is an argument in itself but master/challenger one tricks generally know the most optimal skill orders.

before the mage update, syndra players all maxed E second because the stuns (and faster combo) were more important. after the mage update and W picked up shit tons of orbs, they maxed w because, once again, the stuns were important. now that the W change was reverted, we max E again.

maxing W first for damage is meh. in comparison to E max it's +26 base damage and

She does have high sustained daamage and some true damage, but remember:
-the true damage on her W is less 100 with 500 ap, and not much higher with more, so in order for it to be meaningful you'd have to hit a lot of Ws in a row;
-her mana costs for sustained damage are atrocious, a standard 7 spheres combo costs almost 700 mana, and to keep doing dps you're going to use even more than that. Unless you buy a Tear (and some do) her mana bar is going to be depleted pretty fast;
-her slow and knockback is her only self-peel, she is slow af, she hasn't got a shield, a self-haste or any other form of defense aside from some hp from Liandrys/GLP/RoA or some other similar items and laughable resistances from Zhonyas/Abyssal.

All of these factors make her incredibly weak against tanks with huge resistances and the possibility to dive her.
