Splatoon 2 will probably still have the same problems with lag with Japan as the original did right? They haven't mentioned anything about server upgrades to eliminate lag. Apparently the developers said the fox and tanuki were leftover assets from when the game had rabbits instead of squids, and they kept them in as a happy little accident. The whole game was originally going to be based on Japanese folklore instead of aquatic life forms. I dunno about the turtle and crane, but I thought I read somewhere (maybe in this thread) about the pair referencing a Japanese tale.

I did find a thing on wikipedia saying that "the fox has seven disguises, the tanuki has eight" and that they're both seen as shape shifters, which fits nicely with the form changing and the line in the sunken scrolls about the inklings winning because they had more arms.

Also I found a myth about a turtle offering a crane his back to perch on when everywhere was flooded, then later the crane lifting the turtle to a new lake when his dried up, but I don't know if that's a specifically Japanese thing. Maybe the story actually will be about them reconciling, octoling anon would lose their shit.

I find it fun, but I play splatterscope usually and it's like a duck gallery when there's a jump flicking dynamo on the other team.

Am currently playing Switchtoon. Reporting in.

First impressions- don't get the Pro controller for Splatoon. Long travel on all buttons, awkward right stick placement and very narrow, the only good thing about it is D-pad. I didn't get to try split joycons in it, sadly, but standard grip is already better than Pro.
All revelant techs still work. Physics are pretty much same. Inkling hitboxes feel slightly smaller, even at low sensitivity.

So, onto weapons.

Roller is AWESOME, imagine an OHKO Slosher. It's better than that. Effective range and are very similar to Tri-Slosher's middle blob.
Curling bomb is meh. It has one big advantage over seekers- very short action, feels like a burst bomb, but otherwise not threatening, not on The Reef at least. Speaking of burst bombs, curls actually do some damage on contact, so curl combos may be a thing, and in places like Hammerhead zone it may splat before going boom.
Splashdown is neat, but feels cheap, last thing we needed are super-mobile suicide bombers that don't die.

Dualies are a gimmick, but the kit is awesome. Strafe speed is pretty slow, foot coverage is crap, and coverage in general too, Splattershot turfs beter. I feel like if there will be heavy dualies, they'll be at least high tier, but the baisic ones will bite the dust even against things like Aerospray.
Inkjet is cool, I kinda like it. Very slow projectile, like a burst bomb but with 3x damage multiplier and travelling straight. Fly high and get sniped, or fly low and get dunked even by grounded rollers.

Charge holding looks promising, but it messes with your muscle memory HARD if you have ever used chargers. Plus there was no sensitivity adjustment on the event, and combined, I missed fucking everything. So, I went full close combat. 7/2 without aiming feels so good.
The Stingray is as shit as it looks like.

Splattershot is literally the same. But the new special is neat, very annoying to deal with, and very little commitment.

Yeah, it's a shame it seems less fun to play against, but I get the impression they're trying to fix what they see as issues with the original specials. Like the inkjet is pretty much inkzooka + enforced vulnerability.

I'm hopeful they encourage more tactical usage. At the moment, half of the specials are just used as area control in different shapes, echolocator might as well auto trigger, and the other two are for panicking and pushing the tower.

Its probably more to do with me being better than the 15s it was matching me with, but noone left playing other than shitters at 15 or retards at 50. So it throws me in with bigger fish instead of smaller fish.
Though these 50s seem to be pretty bad all things considered as well. So maybe its just matching me with whoever is available. And it just happens to be 50s from japan and mexico.

Kraken only has one problem: it triggers instantly. If Inkzooka had no activation time, it'd be ridiculous in close combat too, and with Kraken you just have a ridiculously large OHKO hurtbox appearing in front of you you can do jack shit about outside of LAN parties. If it took half a second to transform, not even notifying anyone like zooker does on stick click, it'd be much less broken, while still doing its original purpose- install fear and chase people. Right now Kraken as an offensive special is good, Kraken as a defensive special is broken, and the easiest way to fix it is to neuter its defensive capability.
Bubbler is much more tame as a defensive special, if someone sneaks up on you and you panic bubble, chances of splatting your enemy like that are much lower. So it can stay a true panic special.
