Let me inform you on this matter. I am a guy who is currently playing XIV and now im looking back into Legion for the next few months until 4.0. This patch if you can even call it that is so offensively bad that it validated me unsubbing for now. Legion despite having the stigma against it has more open world content than XIV could ever wish for. XIV and WoW raiding are both very hard, but XIV raids themself are utterly devoid of character or creativity aside from the music. Their raids are just square boss chambers. You'd be lucky to see a miniboss thrown in at the door. Meanwhile at least WoW raids are actual zones.

At this point all that XIV has going for it is a more intuitive crafting and gathering system, and like you said good housing options.

im an 898 Ret and i can barely manage to keep 500k sustained dps on single target fights. outside of wings it drops to like 420-480k. i have 2 utility leggos (a 3rd utility just dropped for me), my haste is an abysmal 15 fucking percent while my mastery (a stat that one would think is supposed to be the best since it's in my goddamn spellbook and judgement is centered around it) is 42% and i'm supposed to have as little as possible of it, but the game just will not stop shoving mastery heavy gear down my throat. i have to take it because literally nothing else will drop.

i'm so fucking salty that i've sunk all this time into my character, raiding and doing stupid repetitive emissary shit and i'm rewarded with spastic itemized gear and 3 dogshit legendaries. FUCK this game

Essentially levelling has been reworked once or twice to be faster because its not an attractive proposition to have to level to 80-90+ if it was the speed of Vanilla. Would take someone weeks, while veterans were busy progressing current content.

Then there is the fact there has been a stat squish, so all the items at low(er) levels are extremely out of whack of what they should have been at that level, so you don't end up with endgame items with billions of a stat to maintain a linear curve.
