Alright, I think I've reach sufficiently deep despair to start reaching out.

Is there any way to put a bone transform in a buffer to use it later in an anim graph, even if the transform changes in the meantime?

I just want to switch the transforms of bones, why is this so difficult?

Coming straight from an interpreted language, the workflow of compiling and linking feels overly complicated, especially when trying to cross-compile. I miss the simplicity and portability of Lua. I hope this game is not dropped as well, we've invested a lot of time on this one so far.

Working premise - Character alternates from dreamworld to real life segments. Lines between reality and dreams blur as the character confronts their ultimate fears.

The game features a campaign with a hub + LAN/WAN multiplayer.

Kairo was dropped, Theonian did not like the direction w.r.t. to art, since he has a strength in creepy, desaturated, surreal style. I agree with him, even though Kairo was fun + cute. Probably those models will not be wasted.


Not sure what happened to airship, seemed like a cool idea.

Anyways, request from all of you. What's the typical download and upload speeds for Internet that you gamedev with?

I am writing a bunch of tests for services and it would be nice to know what the average and lower end speeds people are using are. I can restrict the bandwidth during testing to match. Any other Internet setup details you wanna give me ( like packet % lost) that don't identify you personaly would be great.

I tried moving the location of the socket in the skeleton editor to see if getsocketLocation wasn't actually giving me the relative location, but it's still all zeros. Hey all, programmer looking for an artist here. I'm gonna make a jam game for DD13, starting tonight. The idea is a tetris dungeon crawl: you build the dungeon out of tetrominos, which have monsters and treasue, and your party automatically explores the dungeon that you create. It's vaguely similar to rymdkapsel if you have played that.

Pic related is what I have made. I have previous experience working on two jam scope collab games, NOVIDEO and GRAVITIES, as well as LUZ, which was a solo "jam" game that got covered by RPS. You can play my shit at snekdev.itch.io to see the gameplay.

Two possible collabs that could work:
1. Someone who wants to do 100% of the art. Style is completely up to you, and we can even change the theme of the game if you like. I don't mind ironic shitty art either.
OR
2. A 3d modeler who only needs to produce the meshes. For texture and style, I have a family of noise shaders that I developed for NOVIDEO.

Also I think you have too much colors on the hair/feathers. You should try using a more limiting palette as a start and then you tweak the colors a little if you need. DB16 and DB32 are always a good reference.

I... don't think you understand how models work.
Those faces you see inside a model? They don't exist. They're telling you to fix your normals because your normals are facing outward -- i.e., you see the box from the outside, but there's nothing on the inside.

If you hit N in blender, there's a "Backface Culling" option about halfway down under the Shading subcategory -- This will hide the nonexistent faces that are just there to make modeling easier. They aren't actually part of the model because containing additional faces INSIDE of objects would be a very, very inefficient thing to do. There's another option in this same menu that lets you display the direction your normals are facing with little highlighted rods instead.

The legs for example. It seems like you have 6 faces there but you're only using them to make a square shape for the legs. Skirt and torso could use a few more vertices to give them a better shape. And you seem to have an ngon under her breasts.

They might get triangulated in a way that wouldn't make sense if you did it yourself. I can cause weird shading stuff to happen which is why it's better to triangulate them yourself.

Anyways I feel like the model is coming up pretty nicely but you're possibly trying to work at a too low detail level for your skill. You don't need to go autistically low since computers can handle way way more these days.

Tell me about your problems, when you have to make the kind of games you are restricted to because you can not art. It's like I just want to make cool platformers or FPSs, but I can not art for shit, so I either go ASCII, command line games or puzzle games with weird abstract geometry. I mean, I love to make them, but when I finally set the mechanics right, I just can not care about it anymore.

Other than that: always make the thing which makes you happy in the process of making it, and also makes you happy when you've finished it and you look at it. I saw you using something other than Mudbox/ZBrush to model earlier on - so I'm not sure if your software has it - but if it does you should see if it has anything like ZBrush's ZSpheres. I can make lots of characters pretty easily once I get a base shape - and ZSpheres + Reflections/Mirroring makes that pretty snappy most times.

Originally I wanted to give each ability a few levels and make the effect more powerful per a level but that didn't really work out due to all of the numbers being so small that scaling them over levels gives poor results. How about making levels only reduce cooldowns, so you get to choose which of the abilities you get to use more often?

That particular one's a bad example as I wasn't done yet, but otherwise yes, shading makes an enormous difference.

Also, I always do a normalized AO bake over each model and multiply that onto their diffuse map, that one trick makes a huge difference for very little effort. It's not as good as having a proper artist go over it, but it is really effective.

I sure wish Unity didn't activate record mode every fucking time you examine your animations making your anus clench with anxiety. Easily my least favorite thing about the IDE. And to turn record mode off you have to click it multiple times and focus on other things on the scene and hope you didn't just record a massive change in the animation. Want to check if you did? Well you have to open the animation tab again once again highlighting the record mode and so on and on and on and on and on REEEEEE UNITREEEEE

Randomized descriptions for the workers and shrine maidens is complete now. Also got some basic stream-of-consciousness conversation stuff in. Also added a Sarin and a Grynan into the possible folk you can encounter, though their chance of finding either is much diminished.

I use Photoshop CC

1. take a photo of some rusted metal
2. add vector mask to give it shape
3. add lots of blending options, primarily the Bevel & Emboss to give it a more 3d look
4. experiment a lot with the blending options to make it look good
5. the light effect is done with by making a new layer with a gradient using the diamond style, with a simple yellow to red gradient. that whole layer's blend mode is usually set to Color Dodge or Vivid Light, which gives it a light effect

the nice thing about using vector mask is you can easily tweak the shape, this is the approach I use for GUI instead of hand-painting things, because I usually need to adjust things a lot when laying out the GUI

I'm working on a small project to just get to know the ins and out of RPG Maker MV, however my computer runs the test versions of the game awfully slow, with about 60% slowdown, no audio slowdown though.

I realize that this is some kind of problem with optimization as it runs perfectly on a much older computer I have. Is there any fix to this issue that I could attempt?

And yes, the SNES could scale up images like that so they would be twice as big, but that was still mixed pixel size. Scaling a sprite up still looks bad, even if it's completely within the realm of retro hardware.
Look at Shovel Knight, they could have made plenty of large enemies just be scaled up versions of small enemies, but they didn't, because that would look bad. So they made bigger sprites for bigger enemies so they would still be the same resolution as the rest of the game.
