I hadn't realized how few things scaled with arcane early into the game. It's been hell so far but as soon as I find some arcane-damage runes I'll be good. Or even fire/bolt stones.

It's fun running around in doll clothes, though. Cosplay runs are usually pretty fun.

Holy shit people, I mean you told me about Simon's Bowblade, you TOLD me, but I didn't believe you. Currently on a Skl/Blt run and this thing is just amazing.

Is it even worth getting the Rakuyo or should I stick to Chikage and Bowblade? Because aside from coolness factor, the Rakuyo doesn't seem to be worth a damn on this run.

Likely, I mean, the arrows aren't one-shot material, but the heavy attacks from the bow do actual heavy attack damage from far away which is certainly more cost-effective than any actual gun. Sure it doesn't parry, but if you just go for raw ranged damage...

>>
>>169628351
Absurd phantom range, damage, speed, only needs a single stat investment to make the most of it. Plus it being a Skill weapon means most of the time you're gonna have one-shot viscerals (unless it's a converted Rakuyo on an Arc build). It's got a wide moveset, one of the largest but really it's too easy to R1 and L2 spam to win with it most of the time.

Yeah okay, so Beast Claws are okay as they are, yeah? But in the DLC, there's a rune that adds extra moves to the beast claw and increases the damage you do with them. You get it by killing a secret boss, which you can fight by grabbing laurence's skull from the altar below the surgery altar and bringing it back to the place you got the eye pendant from.

Where everything is either grey or that shitty tinge blue color that all texture in the game have when in the dark. The sky color seems to have no effect on the coty it's supposedly illuminating. Don't even get me started on all those random patches of blue light that seem to be coming out of nowhere. But it's not meant to be real, or to make sense. The whole theme of the game is to be surreal, to make you question what is real and what is not, its meant to be cramped, bizarre and unsettling.
I have no idea why you want Yharnam to feel like Prague or something. That would detract from the atmosphere of the game.

I'd actually argue in support of the blue. The majority of the image is a desaturated orange, but the splotches of blue were probably put there in order to contrast with it. Blue and orange are complimentary colours, so it actually works very well in that regard. The blue also gives a sense of depth.

This is for the anon that said they took care in designing the visuals in the city. The fact that these areas are disappearing from certain positions demonstrates a lack of care for the visuals. Actually, the transition from cathedral ward to old yharnam is physicaly nonsensical. The floating statue is a part of Cathedral Ward, it just didn't get unloaded. You can see in this picture a floating item that was droped by an enemy in cathedral ward but not picked up. From old yharnam, that area would be floating there if we mashed the areas together with a map viewer.

So, you mean minor visual inconsistencies that have absolutely nothing to do with the architectural style and aesthetic of the game? Because I think you and I have a very different understanding of the term 'visual design'. I mean, yeah, of course, no game is perfect and shit will be left out for various reasons like draw distance, rendering, a lazy staff member, and stuff you're not actually supposed to see or even be looking for. Ever see some enemies from far away? They look like ancient 90s PC game sprites moving at 15fps, there are graphical reasons for some stuff to happen. Alas, not one of us here was present for the entire development cycle of Bloodborne, so we can jump to whatever conclusions we want.

I don't see exactly what this dump of yours is meant to prove other than Bloodborne has as many minor errors as 99% of games on the market.

Sure it doesn't affect gameplay, but if you're talking about how much "care" went into creating the game's world then you cannot ignore all these flaws that are very noticeable to someone who is observing the world. Anyone who goes out of their way to explore the visuals for extra lore you'll notice them. And I cam guarantee you any deveoloper would have noticed them.

>Are you from /dsg/ by any chance?

See above. Ando no. I have browsed /bbg/ since the release of Bloodborne, and stood away from /dsg/ because you guys told me they were shitters with a hate boner for Bloodborne. Guess what? They think the same about us over there, both boards hate each other for the same flaws that come out of a vocal group of people set out to get (you)'s, and the fact both board shate each other so much despite being so equal shows how those (you) beggars won.

Stop equating any criticism to Bloodborne as a crusade from someone from another board to start a flame war.

You may have missed my point that the game is not above criticism but I find your examples to be absurdly nitpicky. You missed one, too, the steps where the big hat church hunter is in the Cathedral Ward, if you angle the camera just right you can see through the steps a little. Has that ever hampered my enjoyment of the game? No. Have any of your examples - none of which I've ever seen before myself - hampered my enjoyment of the game? No, and they won't.

You're also dodging my other point about the original topic of aesthetics. Physically, the game has some visual errors, which are not uncommon. Unfortunate, but not uncommon. Dark Souls 3 is hardly the pinnacle of game design if the cloth clipping is to be seen. Aesthetically, you can hardly argue that a lot of care went into creating a consistent setting with a distinct visual aesthetic. The original argument of the colour palettes and tones seems to have been conveniently forgotten in favour of displaying what are, at least to me, quite minor details I never noticed because the game succeeded in making me look where it wanted and needed me to look. I don't know about you, but that's what I was talking about from the beginning.

As for the /dsg/ comment, if you've browsed /bbg/ for so long, you're well aware people have come in here starting shit no particular reason over the nearly two years the games been out. /bbg/ exists solely due to /dsg/ being unable to do anything but shitpost conversation about Bloodborne into oblivion when it came out. So please excuse me if a dump of screenshots of minor visual errors seem to me like someone with a very slight axe to grind.

Oh, buckle up anon, you're in for a ride:
Ninefinger Beck, the lost boy of Cainhurst
Cainhursts come from a bloodline of utmost respect and restriction, a faith in pedigree second to none. At the same time, fortunately or unfortunately, they may branch out into different areas of blood, adding more richness, exoticism, or royalty to the great melting pot. It was by this purpose that they began offering positions at the castle to the sons and daughters of wealthy nobles globally, open to whoever had the bloodline to prove their worth.
When the son of a prostitute made it in, all the elders began scratching their heads in confusion.
Roughly a quarter of a century before the events that would create the Lost Knights, a diplomat, whose name has been lost to the annals of history, figured that one visit to the local brothel would cause no harm to anyone. The girl, whose name has likewise been forgotten, he was with thought different, mostly in a game that quickly turned into attempted murder through strangulation. After this unsettling experience, she only became more unsettled in the next month, learning she had broken one rule of all working girls: she was to be a mother. All the others in the house added up the time, and arrived at the foreigner being the father.
She named him Beckham, after her brother, the only person who had ever been good to her, who died when she was but a child.
Raising a child in a brothel, as you could imagine is difficult. So he was raised outside, amongst the drunks, vagrants, downtrodden, dethroned, and other rejects to the wonderful piece of drama "The Iceman Cometh" (side note: read this thing, it's hilarious). Beckham grew alongside these dregs of society as the recluse, learning at their knees, taking them all as his father. It seemed possible to live somewhat normally, even escape with hope in his heart.
And typhoid killed his mother.
I'll finish this if someone wants, I hit the limit

So, on her deathbed, she finally finished the tale of his father, his true identity, his location, and entrusted him with an official seal, one she stole with the later intent to pawn. She sent him on his way with one wish.
"Make him pay."
A heart filled with hate, he set out, only to be stopped short by a simple matter of facts: he was thirteen, had neither money nor marketable skills, and was facing a reality which showed no mercy to anyone in either category. Yet hate motivates like no other, motivated him enough to sign on to a ship. Five years of his life in exchange for a ride to the land of his father seemed like a fair trade.
The ride itself remained uneventful, hearing the occasional whisper about the Cainhursts, the hunt, more focused on learning the skills to let him survive.
Five years later, he set foot in the city where he would stake his claim as an illegitimate heir, but one scorned beyond measure. As fate would continuously have Beckham, or Beck now to accent his commoner life, by the balls with both hands, his fat pig of a dropout father was making more diplomatic stops across the sea, enjoying the company of whores all the while. He waited another two years, doing what he could in and around the docks to survive, patiently biding his time.
And he did come back, at long last.
Before his foot had crossed the threshold of his house, the diplomat was pounced upon by an eccentric yet spiteful looking young man, smelling of salt and imports from the harbor.
"The two of us need to talk. Now."
"And you are? I've never seen you before in my life."
"You are correct, but you've seen this-"
revealing the seal,
"-and this."
revealing the locket of his mother, one which left an imprint on her neck from the day two decades ago.
The man's eyes glittered unpleasantly. "Now we need to speak."
Upon finding his son, the diplomat wept, grateful at last to find him. Moving to hug him, he could only feel a calloused hand keeping him away.
Rest later!

Beck could only stare bitterly.
"You left us there. You left her there, in that hellhole, lacerations on her neck and me in her belly. I'm not here to reconcile with you. I'm here to collect my dues of twenty years of misplacement. And you can start with the will."
Beck got what he wanted, much to the dismay of his half siblings. He ruled with the rod of guilt for over a year, until someone mentioned Cainhurst; a noble castle of bombast and nostalgia, offering the full education for a right and proper noble, Beck as the perfect candidate.
The coach came, pulled by two horses, looking like they climbed out of their graves. One man rode within, introducing himself as Cyrus. Not a word was spoken during the ride.
It was only when sleep took Beck that he felt them taking on more distance, awakening to the biting cold and embrace of snow, and Cyrus roughly shaking him. They had arrived.
Beck became a full knight, educating himself beyond the drunken wisdom of the streetcorner philosopher, learning the proper methods of combat. The richness of his mother's blood and the royalty of his father's earned him an invitation to the Queen herself, offering a position and a junior commander, possibly earning a higher title in his later years. He took the offer, and her blood for the first time. With the blood came his armor, the high blade of the Chikage, and leadership over a handful of units, mere servant-knights, above all an ex-peasant named Rhys.
His success grew with the hunting of hunters, never considering what may lie beyond their outings. Until he found an old friend.
With three hunters in the clearing and one already beheaded, Beck watched the bag lift over the head of the second. And shot.
The bullet made a clean imprint through the Chikage of his senior commander, an old hand named Gregor.
"Beckham...whatever your explanation is of this transgression, it had better be well worth it."

"He served as my surrogate brother for five years, Gregor."
"Was this before or after you left the whorehouse?" someone sallied from the rear to general applause.
Beck gave no notice, only staring unblinking into Gregor's narrowing eyes.
"Alright, Beck." He nodded.
Two knights pinned Beck's legs under him, forcing his head right on the unfortunate hunter's. The hunter grinned bashfully before his head rolled forward, staring at the stars unseeing.
Beck was chained and brought back with a hood over his head before the queen.
"Well, Beckham, it seems you've made a disturbance. While this has removed anything you had left of your old life and is your first trespass against the old and true ways of Cainhurst, you must face punishment."
In less than a second, he felt all feeling in his left index finger vanish, replaced by a searing pain and the sight of the finger in front of him, innocent of the rest of his hand.
"Cells, one month."
He didn't see any light for thirty days.
Upon coming out, pale as death and hair like a crow's nest, he felt something slide within him, a hollow warmth, an old feeling he thought he left long ago. He felt his old hate rise up.
The hate continued building as he practiced shooting with his middle finger, as he and Rhys, the only one he felt he could trust, cleaned every horse stable in sight, as he took to kicking the cowering servants more than usual, as Annalise stared at him behind the safety of her mask.
Then he found an outlet; dueling. Cainhursts frequently duel, a sport often ending in pain, sometimes death. Beck believed in the latter philosophy, killing enough to earn him another trip to the cells. He alleviated the boredom by loudly naming his victims.
They had enough of him, and decided to send him on another hunt with elite knights, adept enough to kill him if he blinked at the wrong time.
They didn't account for how much hate could motivate a person.
More soon, almost there!

Lost in the land beyond Cainhurst, he wandered, the perfect outcast in the perfect alien world. His weapons were kept concealed, his left hand never exposed to reveal the punishment. He wandered until he found hunters.
On seeing him, every hunter simultaneously turned their guns on him.
"Please...I know what you think...but see this..."
His left hand felt the cool air for the first time in weeks, in all its four-fingered glory.
They took a life from me, as it had been robbed before. I need to become a hunter. I need to, just to atone for this, and the rot festering my bloodstream. I beg of you, don't end me yet."
The head of the party, a local butcher who applied his meat-cutting methods to that of hunting (this guy is actually another one of my hunters), called the guns down.
"You can't call yourself a knight, son, not everyone is as understanding as we are."
Beck said the first word that came to his head.
"Ninefinger. Ninefinger Beck."
Enduring general snickering, he took it. A number of vows, and a bottle of blood cocktail later, he was a hunter. He began sending the messages to all hunters, that any renegade knights of the bitch Queen of Cainhurst come forward to unite. Beck found himself in command of a handful of knights again, with the same mission of hunting hunters, but one more specific; the hunters of Cainhurst as prey.
They tracked and killed knights for months, until happening across a runaway from a recent ambush.
"Leave him," Beck commanded. "Leave this one alive, and with us."
The straggler looked upward, into the compassionate eyes of his commander and friend.
"Hello, Rhys."
Rhys sobbed hoarsely, telling a tale of pain and misery for his mere association with Beck. Beck understood and could appreciate.
The Lost Knights had formed, with the lone goal of finding and killing Annalise's toy soldiers, to weaken her enough to reduce her to a groveling wretch, begging for her pathetic life.
THE END (for now)

I made the backstory out of boredom, influenced by Dishonored and Sweeny Todd. I actually make all my hunter's backstories out of boredom.
The Lost Knights eventually earn a spot in the League and their own workshop, much to the dismayed cries of other hunters, reluctant for the inclusion of Cainhursts, even ex-Cainhursts.
Fortunately, they move in right alongside the Yahar'gul Defectors, as led by Defector Ulysses, who is my current hunter. The Defectors are very adept at interrogation.
"Okay, I've had enough. Garrett (actually my first Defector), Crawley, strap in his arms and legs. Lincoln, hold his head. We're looking for eyes on the inside, get me my Saw Spear."
This line succeeded a long, vicious streak of Crawley and Lincoln beating the shit out of a hostile hunter.

Maria isn't a perfect girl but she doesn't deserve to be bullied
She's done some bad stuff, two biggest things being Fishing Hamlet and allowing the research in the tower (though that's more debatable given many of the subjects seem willing)
But with those two things she
1. Tried to be kind and was adored by the patients
2. Offed herself from guilt

She tried to stay a good person and did all she could to atone as an honorable Hunter
Just imagining her being happy after Gehrman's praise before having that be crushed by more Cainhurst bullying and now with added teacher's pet bullying makes me legitimately sad
I really really hope she didn't do everything she did at Hamlet just for Gehrman too
He might've been the one hunter who was even tolerable of her so I could see her becoming dependent on him

The way I've seen it, Soulsborne games share the same odd sense of community as a public men's room. It's dark, dreary, and you're about to go in there and take care of some shit you'd probably rather avoid. But while you're at it, you might notice some graffiti here or there of people that have been there before you, and take comfort in the notion that someone's been through the same shitty experience you have...or left something funny and/or vulgar for others to read and have a chuckle over.

What sort of gems and imprints should I use for the Logarius Wheel on an arcane build? The OP said I should use the Uncanny version because it's best for arcane damage but it does split damage, so is it better to actually use the Lost version?
What about gems that give flat arcane damage? Would that be better for the multi-hit damage?

Similar question for the Boomhammer and Tonitrus on an arcane build: Since the elemental damage is already built in and it can't be converted, am I better off to use Nourishings for the split damage, or is It better to fill them with elemental boosting gems?

Uncanny Wheel is good for Flats, which are better only for the multi-hits. If you wanna rev and use the whole moveset, go Lost.

>>

>>169680320
Both get a bit too edgy in the final phases, but I prefer Gehrman's fight for the atmosphere, better weapon and better boss design. Gehrman is my personal favourite fight, so my opinion is a bit skewed. Even so Maria is still one of the best fights in the game.

When doing a PvE run, do you do chalice dungeons at all?

If you do them, do you rush them? Do you do them as you progress through the main game? Do you save them for the end or do them in New Game+?
>>
>>169689519
Unless I'm an ARC build I save them for NG+ or after gehrman but before MP and speedrun them.
>>
>>169689519
Depends, if its an ARC build you're better of doing Pthu and maybe central Pthu early on for Fire&Cold Radials from the layer 3 bosses. Otherwise just do them as you see fit, the gems are usually way better than the story gems, even for the early chalices.

>for the woods literally follow the path.
the path has forks and dead ends in many places, and many parts of the path lead straight into traps and ambushes. For example in the beginning when you have all the guys with torches gathered around bonfires as there are like 3 guys who do nothing but throw oil urns sitting on the cliffs, with several dogs to make you dodge into the bonfires. But you can avoid this ambush by climbing around the side of the path.

is Loran supposed to be like Egypt or Arabia or something? Like another area of the waking world? Why was it swallowed by the sand?

And is the Pthumerian labyrinth literally underneath Yharnam / Byrgenwerth? It's referred to as the underground labyrinth, like it's underground in the waking world. Where does that place Isz? All the dungeons have the same architecture; is the lore reason for this because they were all made by the pthumerian watchers (I guess the ones with pickaxes?)
>>
>>169716405
Pthumerian Descendant Ihyll Depth 5. I got him just now. So fucking happy, it was a nightmare. Hardest boss in the game for me, Orphan and Ludwig are jokes compared to HMPH.
>>
>>169716405
If you want, you can help me with Headless Bloodletting Beast. You up for it? I'm BL38.
>>
>>169716454
That's the funny thing, really, there's not much on Loran other than it seemed to be some kind of subterranean land that fell to the scourge of beasts (messing with the blood) and was swallowed by the sands, that being a geological disaster, I imagine. We don't know the exact layout of Bloodborne's wider world, so it's hard to make a judgement.

I believe Loran was just another civilization before Yharnam rose to where it is. I think it's partly a nod to some Lovecraft stuff like The Nameless City or Under the Pyramids, those have lots of sandy, underground lairs and stuff. They were just another people who were highly influenced by stuff they found in Pthumeru, and like Pthumeru, messing with the blood caused their downfall. Maybe they built their cities with undead Pthumerians like how Yharnam utilizes them as Church Hunters and Kidnappers.

As for Pthumeru itself, I do believe it is straight up just under the city, but the method accessibility is weird with the chalices and stuff. The Pthumerians seem to have had just straight up magic with their fire and undead stuff. The chalices might just be keys to conceptual doors. It isn't clear.

The way I see it, it goes like this in terms of chronology:
Pthumeru
Isz
Loran
Yharnam

It fits into the cosmic horror theme, Yharnam and its humanity are just another, very recent newcomer meddling in ancient things they don't understand. Yharnam will end up as another sunken, lost civilization.
>>
>>169715470
i didnt say you couldnt, my point was that if you follow the path you cannot go the wrong way, it will lead you to the village, down the stream, through the windmill and to the boss, if you dont wander off you literally cannot get lost

I guess Dark Souls (1st at least) was more about survival, with the violence being incidental to surviving. Not overly gory. Gloomy with weird shit going down, but your relationship with that was more in trying to survive it.

Bloodborne wears its gore with pride, prefixes blood to everything, has quite a few people from the first who are all about hunting beasts and the blood. You're right in there with the weird shit headfirst in a confrontational capacity.

Hardly matters but if we're doing metrics of edge I'd say Bloodborne has it going on a whole lot more. Though edgy was always a poor term and it's only becoming less meaningful as time goes on.
>>
>>169727778
"Edgy" implies "not tasteful", so it doesn't apply to BB at all
>>
>>169725849
The real question is who has greater anime powers, Maria, Sully or Friede.
>>
>>169728095
Abyss Watchers is the most anime in the series
>>
>>169728053
And this is precisely why edgy is such an awful term. No-one can agree on the precise connotations.

Even if there were an agreement on the precise connotations, whether something is or is not tasteful remains in contention.

i.e. is hags messily ripping peoples eyes out while they're still alive gratuitously violent and gory, therefore beyond good taste, or is it a valid move to instill a sense of threat in the player through the initial shock?
>>
>>169728325
What gives? They dont have flammable blood, blackicefire or a personal Stand.
>>
>>169728609
What's gratuitous about it? Taking eyes is what they do.
>>
>>169728714
They spray fire with their sword, their fighting style is entirely based on useless flips and jumps that are entirely for "cool factor", their armor is filled with trinkets and decorations, they have oversized weapons, they dual-wield and have actual anime hair.
>>
>>169728751
I think it works for the reason given, but if you can't see how it could easily be perceived as gratuitously violent and explicit then I think the hags may already have yours.
>>
>>169729081
Gratuitous means that it doesn't have a point and it's only there for its own sake, but this isn't the case.
>>
>>169727778
As >>169728053 said, edgy implies it isn't tasteful, or is over the top and inconsistent, surface level without any meaning, reason or context behind it. Shock for it's own sake rather than the result of something natural.

The way you phrased Dark Souls could easily be turned on its head. Dark Souls is about an undead warrior during the apocalypse who kills fallen gods and eats their souls, the 'gods' were selfish liars, a corrupted soul created all the demons and an evil serpent wants you to become a Dark Lord also humanity is a violent scourge of darkness.

Nothing in Bloodborne is inherently 'edgy'. Being a soul-devouring god-killer is no worse than being a blood-drinking monster hunter. It's all about how you approach it. I'd approach Bloodborne saying it was a cosmic horror story about the curse of lineage, hubris, corruption, base natures, and forbidden knowledge being forbidden for a reason, whose violent aspects are perfectly consistent with the world around it and all have a reason for happening rather than for style or shock points. It's a complicated subject. I feel like I could go on for ages here.

>>169727695
>>
>>169729429
Very valid point.

Though if the question being asked is "Why do people call Bloodborne edgy Dark Souls was being edgy long before it?", then whether it's legitimately more or less 'edgy' when considered as a whole becomes secondary to how it presents itself on the surface level, which is where most of the general perception will come from.

That's very true, as well. I feel the general perception of Dark Souls is everyone's haggard and depressed or crazy, I feel like everyone's Crestfallen Warrior, and this became especially evident as the whole PREPARE TO DIE meme took off, and in subsequent games where the apocalyptic, world crumbling into ruin thing was put front and center. That's Dark Souls, relentless weariness and grimness.

Bloodborne, from the launch trailer (I think it's the launch trailer) almost gave off RE4 vibes with the dogs and monstrous villagers, and gameplay certainly did emphasize the more violent aspects, no doubt about that. On a more surface level, I suppose I see the 'edgy' thing, though I don't agree with it, I'd say it was more stylized horror than anything - a lot of people even here in the past have mentioned Van Helsing, and Gothic action is more apt to me. I have a hard time summing it up in a few terms, though, but maybe that's because I'm so familiar with it.
>>
>>169729965
Because Bloodborne is darker and more horror, the average player isn't prepared for it.
>>
>>169730456
The bowblade is good against Orphan too
>>
>>169730456
Is it just me, or does Orphan do an absurd amount of animation canceling during co-op? I've been hit by two different attacks of his in the span of 1 second, or just seen him instantly use a different one without even going through the recovery animation for the first.

Sure that's a decent Strength build. If you're only gonna use the Wheel, you don't need Skill past 12 since it has 0 Skill scaling. But if you plan on using other stuff, then it's good. I'd swap points from End for more Vit imo, and the extra Blt is eh. If you take out points from Blt, start with Violent Past instead.
>>
>>169746053
I don't really mind the vit, on my last playthrough I played with 25 vit through the whole game and didn't struggle a bit.

>>169746643
Yeah 40 Vit's fine but I'd rather have more Vit than End since stamina management is much more easier to deal with in BB. PvE doesn't punish you as much as PvP when it comes to Vit, but 40 is enough as long as you've slotted 2 HP Runes.

Military Veteran, Violent Past or Cruel Fate origin. Go 25/25 Str/Skl then decide which to pump to 50. 40-50 Vitality. You don't really need to invest in Endurance but if you do then don't go past 20. Ignore Bloodtinge and Arcane for now. If you chose Cruel Fate, you can get 15-18 Arcane for a few "spells" called Hunter Tools. If you choose 50 Skill, you can get Bloodtinge to 10 to open up a few weapons.

Just beat the game for the first time and started a NG+ right away. Can someone explain the chalice dungeons? I see that on the trophy list only one involves doing them, and that's my only reason for starting it at all because it's my impression that they're just RNG garbage for people who like grinding. I used the Pthumeru Chalice and I'm standing in the first room, what exactly will I have to do to get that trophy?
>>
>>169759739
The only RNG chalices are the root ones which are randomly generated. There is a collection that are semi-story related (well certain parts 100% are just not every bit) and these ones are required for the achievement. The OP has a section labeled "Chalice Pastebin" which will probably help you a lot too. I think there's 5 necessary Pthumeru chalices? Along with two? Loran ones and one called "Isz"
As for the chalices themselves, they're 3-floored areas that all use the same formula and each end with a boss (quite a few original too which is hella neat to me)
>>
>>169759739
the trophies that need chalice dungeons are queen of yharnam, hunters weapons and the rare gemstone. If you aim for the queen of yharnam trophy you should get the others on the way follow the location section of this
http://bloodborne.wiki.fextralife.com/Yharnam,+Pthumerian+Queen

>>169760120
>hunters weapons
You mean Hunter's Essence? I don't think you need chalices for that one. Why would you?
>>
>>169760231
Beast Claw
>>
>>169759739
Basically, there's a number of 'story chalices', referring to the fact you get one during the story and by all rights are supposed to explore them during the story intermittently, between areas, to get gems and echoes and such to upgrade and level up. The story chalices, technically, are Pthumeru, but there is also Loran, Hintertombs and Great Isz, which are gotten either within other chalices or other parts of the main game (Ailing Loran from Nightmare Frontier Amy and Isz from Ebrietas). The last three are entirely optional, more or less, but Loran contains a unique weapon and Hintertombs contains a unique attire set. The story chalices are set, and do not change, eveC. You will receive special Root Chalices at the end of each one which you can use to make randomized chalices, which can be fun or frustrating.

If you want the quickest route through the chalices for the trophy, check the first OP link, there's a speedrun guide in there listing everything you need to do. To get the trophy, you will need to complete Pthumerian Labyrinth, Central and Lower Pthumeru, Ailing Loran, Cursed Pthumerian Defilement and Great Pthumeru Ihyll. The final boss of Ihyll nets you the trophy.

>>
>>169761050

18% Arc Droplet and a 15% Nourishing Radial in Mergo's after Mico. Nothing better I think, there's probably an Arc Triangle somewhere in Hamlet near the sluggirls. Isz will have okay Arc gems, but they'll mostly come in Triangles. You're gonna have to do CD's as an Arc build anyway, might as well get to it.
>>
>>169761442
There's one 18% droplet in Mensis. After that, yeah, you need to do chalices. And there's no middle ground; they're either 9% uncursed or 20%+ cursed.

Ok this isn't completely true. You could farm Ebrietas for an Arcane Abyssal, and that would run 15% I think.

But obviously doing that isn't worth the effort.
>>

>>
>>169761459
It would probably be run into the ground, between the community and Bamco possibly having their way with it. The mods would make the game a horrendous bastardization, and some of PC users would whine about every aspect they could.
It wouldn't really expand the community, or revive it. We're living proof it's surviving on its own.
>>
>>169761983
Yeah you'll have to dip into CD's. There's a guide in the OP that'll help with the basics. Every weapon has 3 gem slots, best setups are dependant on your build and other minor factors. Gemming fire weapons early are easier than Bolt and Arc, to the point it's usually easier to use fire for most of the game. DLC has decent Bolt gems but they're deep into the content. For setups you could check the OP for what works best, stuff like glyphs, who to farm, what shapes, etc.
>>
>>169761798
Just because 1% of PC gamers are fuckheads that doesn't mean they all are. It would be a net gain. It would reduce the trolling the game gets by 95%.

>>169762005
>81 IPs
k
>and some of PC users would whine about every aspect they could.
Most will enjoy the game save for trolls that would start shit no matter what, like with the Dark Souls series which was well received.
>It wouldn't really expand the community
At least 500,000 new players.
>>
>>169761937
The silver lining is that Arcane is only REALLY good against Pthumerians, who are also only found in chalice dungeons.

>>169761983
An Arcane build needs two kinds of gems; Cold Abyssal gems, which increase the weapon's Arcane scaling, and elemental damage % gems to convert the weapon to the desired element.

Typically you'll want to stick two Colds and one elemental % in a weapon.

I don't think you can "use" the dolls hair ornament on anything. The Red Brooch is able to be given to the little girl for nothing, or you can use it to get a blood gem. You can also use the Dolls' tear and the Vicar's pendant for a blood gem, so maybe the have another use somewhere, but I really doubt it.

You're right bby I'm sorry. There is no other use for the Hairpin sadly, but, if you take Amelia's Gold Pendant and show it to Ludwig (after beating him without getting hit) while wearing any Church garb, he opens a secret door to a merchant named Duünker who sells six-slotted weapons.

The fact that you beat Amelia and Paarl in one try makes you probably the best player in this general, maybe even on Earth. In fact, if you have a PayPal, I'd love to make you a considerable donation, and would definitely love to watch you on Twitch if you have one. Although obviously a player of your caliber probably has no time for such trivialities. Forgive me for even saying anything.

Well again you prove you're as apt mentally as you are physically, because there are absolutely two places where Amygdala "whisk you away" (great word usage btw ^^).

So beasts are weak to fire and serrated, that makes perfect sense. Flames ignite their fur and serrated weapons rend flesh.
Cosmos Kin are weak to electricity, presumably because it disrupts the bonds that keeps their fleeting physical form together in our waking world. They are more resistant to serrated stuff, I guess because their flesh is gelatinous or some shit.
But why pthumerians are weak to arcane?
Also how various other undead enemies are classified in the game files? What they are weak to?

The undead are weak to righteous damage, which is a hidden damage bonus similar to serrated.
It's found in most church weapons.
>>

I mean, from a video game standpoint it does make sense, but lore-wise, did the Church really have much contact with the undead? I thought the prime target of their hunts were the beasts. The undead seem to have more common with mensis and yahar'gul.

Mensis and Yahar'gul were part of the Church
The Chuch also had tomb prospectors, basically graverobbers sent to explore the Pthumerian labyrinths

Is it possible to enter Loran without ever using a Pthumeru chalice?
>>
>>169785189
Ritual Blood(4) isnt found in the waking world, only in dungeons, so at first glance; no.

Ritual Blood(5) is found in Upper Ward(x3) and
pearl slug is found in byrgenwerth&UCW. However arcane haze extractor is found in Pthu
You CAN farm it from the flower insect thing in byrgenwerth though, so technically your first chalice could be Great Isz.
If you can find Blood(4) in Isz then you can go to Loran

>>
Whats the lore behind this thing?
>>
>>169787145
BB's lore is full of holes and very open to interpretations, so the following are just my thoughts on it.

>So Gehrman was the 1st hunter right, why is he trapped in the dream? Because of the Old Hunters curse or the Moon Presence?

It looks to me that Gehrman is stuck in the Dream because he was Laurence's pal and they beckoned Moon Presence together, possibly in the Workshop, which was already abandoned by everyone save Gehrman himself by that time. That's why there's an Umbilical Cord there and a bloodied altar.

>And since he was the 1st Hunter he was the 1st one to take arms againts the beast plague? Or does he predate that?

Beast plague became a widespread problem only after the Ashen Blood disaster, yet Workshop Hunters and Church Hunters already existed before. Perhaps beasts and other stuff related to the blood, Pthumerians etc. were present in Yharnam in some small capacity since long ago, but it only really blew up thanks to Laurence. I've also thought that maybe Gehrman's hunters in the time of Byrgenwerth participated in the Chalice expeditions, and so they trained to battle the monsters there too.

>I'm just kinda confused he seems like an ok guy but I know he did some bad stuff just not sure what

At least one really bad thing we know he did was the Fishing Hamlet slaughter. Whether the locals were turning into fishmen or not, they weren't mindless beasts and yet Gehrman and his comrades murdered them, searched their skulls for eyes and defiled Kos's corpse, most likely in attempt to study it.

Guys I have 2 questions

When should I buy the Hunter Chief Emblem?
I just killed the BSB

And how do I decide on which weapon to use?
Currently i alternate a lot between the Hunter Axe and the Saw spear. In general I like the Saw spear a lot more when it comes to smaller enemies in 1 v 1 situations because its so fast. But in groups I prefer the hunters axe cause of its aoe in 2 hand mode
>>

the BSB gave me absolute hell, he was the first boss that almost made me quit the game entirely. took me a good 10 attempts and even then I felt I got lucky.
>>
>>169793051
If you killed BSB, there is no reason to ever buy the HC emblem; it exists so you can bypass Old Yharnam entirely.

How good a weapon is is subjective towards your tastes, build, playstyle and progress. I have no idea how I'm supposed to answer this question in a way that will be taken as any sort of fact outside of opinion. Use your favourites.

Also get off the general until you beat the game unless you like ruining surprises.

I guess I'm wondering about the Hunters now. Theres altruistic Hunters who want to protect people from the beasts, then there is Blood drunk Hunters.

Then there is Choir Hunters who seem only interested in advancing the organisations goals, some Church hunters like (fanatic) Alfred who believe in purging evil, other Church hunters who seem to only care about the goals of the church and don't give 2 shits about horrible things done to the populace.

What I'm wondering now is about Gehrman and Ludwig.

We know Gehrman balked at the church hunter methods (which were ludwigs methods) but why? What was so different between them and the workshop that Gehrman found so distasteful?

Did Gehrman take pleasure in the Hunt? Or did he take up arms out of necessity? I can't remember where it says this but

"At the start of the beast scourge, Gehrman was the first of the Yharnamites to take notice of the beasts and became the first hunter."

It just seems to raise more questions about Gehrman/the Workshop, and Ludwig/the Church.

Not to mention why the hell the moon presence was summoned and how this fits into this, and how it relates to the Hunters Nightmare curse if at all (seems like Gehrman is double cursed? lol)

And yeah that was some bad shit Gehrman did, but at least he cares about the the player not suffering like him
>>

Since I don't want to preface everything with "I think that", just consider everything following my personal interpretations.

First of all, Gehrman's and Ludwig's Workshops probably didn't exist at the same time. I think Gehrman's prime was during Byrgenwerth days. Perhaps the Fishing Hamlet happened shortly before the split between Laurence and Willem. It is impossible to say how long Gehrman's hunters operated after the Church's conception, but Gehrman was sitting alone in the Workshop for quite some time before the Moon Presence affair happened. I sincerely doubt he was crafting the Doll with other people present. Everyone remembers the hero Ludwig, whereas Gehrman's hunters are completely forgotten.

Now, the Church Hunters were only formed with the Church, naturally. The Church was increasing the usage of blood, more beasts show up, and so Ludwig starts enrolling common folk. The issue with that was that to battle the beasts, people of the city drank even more blood. That, combined with the thrill of the hunts, only hastened the growth of beasthood in them. It was a downwards spiral until they get the way we see them in-game: everyone's a beast.

>Not to mention why the hell the moon presence was summoned and how this fits into this, and how it relates to the Hunters Nightmare curse if at all (seems like Gehrman is double cursed? lol)

The fact that MP was beckoned by Laurence (and his associates) is stated plainly in a note. Laurence and the Church are all about the search for knowledge, and what's better than communicating with a genuine Great One? Makes you wonder what did Gehrman have to gain from this, though.

Oh, also, about the Nightmare and the Dream.

The Dream is created by Moon Presence which bound Gehrman to it. The Nightmare is a combination of Kos's power (or the Orphan's?) and the Hamlet villagers' wishes. Gehrman would probably go to the Nightmare if he died normally, but instead he's stuck between two places. Orphan's weeping in the boss fight cinematic is identical to Gehrman's when he's crying in his sleep, so many people theorize that when Gehrman sleeps in the Dream he is experiencing Orphan's agony in the Nightmare. If you both complete the DLC and defeat Gehrman in the Dream, the guy finally dies for good.

And I think there is literally nothing in the game to indicate why did Gehrman become the first hunter. I wish there were.

Anon, im going to have a another break for 20 mins. Not eaten all day and i think its making me play worse. Ill be back soon.

>Your end
Buddy i live in the ass-end of my country, it might as well have been me.

Just mention when you want to try again, i'll be here for a good hour or so
>>
I don't have PS+ so I'm doing my first run offline but how is online play in BB? Other than PvP (which I never really liked in Souls anyways), is the PvE the same? I'd like a Souls game where I can help in areas I've already beaten or something like a boss rush.

there is no boss rush but the coop is really fun IMO. Helping people explore the randomly generated max-difficulty dungeons is fun ("spelunking")

real shame desu. some bosses are so much fun to fight and you can only kill them once per playthrough
>>
>>169800431
I mean, you can co-op in other people's worlds to fight the bosses again, just not by yourself.
>>
>>169800214
>>169800431
Ah, okay. You mean the Chalice Dungeons? I was wondering if the difficulty would ramp up, usually the start is much harder than the rest of the game in Souls titles but I beat all the bosses first try in BB. Only time I had trouble was against the machine gun dude.

you can kill them infinite times in one playthrough if you coop with small resonant bell.

you can only /solo/ them once per playthrough

I know right? There is not an enemy that terrifies me as much as those things do, outside of maybe the gigantic Nightmare Apostle in the Nightmare of Mensis.

Hell those stupid things with their bullshit moves and ridiculous damage output are scarier than most bosses.

I actually got the Rakuyo but I still have yet to kill an anchor-wielding Giant.

Theres a few items in the game which state or imply Gehrman knew Ludwig and disapproved of the Churches methods

>>169799184

>And I think there is literally nothing in the game to indicate why did Gehrman become the first hunter. I wish there were.

>At the start of the beast scourge, Gehrman was the first of the Yharnamites to take notice of the beasts and became the first hunter.

And Lore wiki states

>In time, a man named Gehrman would rise to the task of the Beast problem. Gehrman redesigned common clothing to provide better defense against the beasts' claws, and also created the Burial Blade, a unique weapon capable of transforming during battle to cater to Gehrman's need for a short or long weapon.

I know this feel

>Get all hyped for "one of the hardest bosses ever"
>Scared out of my wits going through Upper cathedral ward
>my first play through so I have spent tons of time over leveling to compensate for difficulty
>playing with LHB because I heard it was easy mode
>glance at guide "BRING LIGHTING PAPER UND PELLETS"
>about to shit myself at boss entrance when I see how horrifying it looks
>drop pellet
>piss myself a little
>activate paper
> The fight is over in less than a fucking minute because fucking quad weak to lighting thrust Über dildo blade

Most anti-climatic boss fight ever.

I thought i would have a shit time as a paper-thin ARC build. Turns out her head has a Xtrillion weakness to EGS

most of the bullshit-level difficulty bosses (like undead giants) are only in the dungeons, or are only made bullshit-level difficult because of the half-HP curse that you only get in the dungeons.

The DLC bosses are hard but not in a bullshit way

Well yeah, we know that Gehrman rose to the occasion, but it's not exactly elaborated upon. Of course there wasn't necessarily any more complex motivation than "someone really should take care of those dangerous beasts, might as well be me".

>Theres a few items in the game which state or imply Gehrman knew Ludwig and disapproved of the Churches methods
Got any quotes? Genuinely curious, I simply don't remember any.

Fucking hell that was intense. Well done to you both but unlucky Grigori as we got him. My heart started racing as i used my last vial! Great fight!

why were they unable to put almost anything from the DLC into the areas from the base game? I mean including the chalice dungeons. They didn't incorporate variants of the DLC weapons or runes into the bonus room sarcophagi, and they didn't make enemies drop the newly added types of blood gems (such as finestrike or lethal). All they added were new items in the messengers shop, and new messengers that gave you the blood-drunk hunter's eye so you could teleport using an amygdala that already existed onto a new area that was on a tombstone that already existed. Oh and summons will sometimes carry DLC weapons. Valtr's questline and fighting the Madaras twin is the most impressive scripting-related thing they added to the base game.

I wish they had added a depth 5 hintertomb and gave it corpse werewolves and cramped caskets, and The One Reborn (but much harder) as the end boss

Could be release schedules being weird, I mean, it was originally supposed to be two DLCs but they made them into one big DLC. I don't know, really. The DLC is almost an entirely separate thing from the main game.

>The Healing Church, and the Blood Ministers who belong to it...were once guardians of the hunters, in the times of the hunter...Ludwig. They worked, and forged weapons, in their unique workshop. Today, most ministers don't recall the hunters. And so, heed the message of your forebears. Ascend to Oedon Chapel.

Only quote I know of Gehrman talking about Ludwig.
