The Garleans are, and were, a small tribe of people living in the northern reaches of Ilsabard. Due to being a race that have no connection to aether they have no ability to use magic. This lead to them being slaughtered and pushed further and further into northern wastelands due to other groups of peoples overwhelming them.
Eventually, the Garleans become desperate and few, until they ran across a piece of Allagan technology. The study of this piece of technology lead to the development of the ceruleum engine which further lead to development of magitek, named such as a way to mock the use the magic.
Using their new technology they set out on getting revenge on the other tribes and peoples of Ilsabard who had killed them and left them to die in the cold northern wastelands. Their magitek wasn't alone enough, though, and they eventually hire Hellsguard battle mages to supplement their lack of magical capability. These Hellsguard mercenaries would eventually leave Garlemald after never being paid. Eventually, the Garleans would conquer the entirety of Ilsabard.
That's a very basic run down off the top of my head.

My MNK is just some c@ who knows how to throw a punch and was found abandoned in the desert as a baby and taken in by a childless Hyuran couple in Ala Mhigo. I hope the SB MNK story expands on the MNK sects and their history. As far as I could tell going through both ARR and HW stories again, the shadow sect was briefly mentioned in ARR and then not again until it actually became relevant in HW's story, but the actual histories of the sects aren't really detailed.

But SB's story will probably be more about reviving the Fist of Rhalgr itself under a single sect and not touch on the past

If precedent holds, then the best gear you can get currently (i270) will have the ilvl of level ~65 gear. The only big reason to level MNK would be if you want an easier time getting dungeon/raid drops for glamour before SAM comes out, or as >>169598076 said, if you want to play it.

Not really, the Warrior of Light is a canon character and if this was a different medium the exact same character would exist, just given a name, job etc. Kinda like how various games get adapted to manga and Light Novels, their self-insert avatar for the player gets turned into a character that is exactly the same for all execution, so the Warrior of Light would still be the same Mary Sue they are right now. The Warrior of Light is a self-insert avatar, yeah, but they're a Mary Sue and a core of the actual story.

For the story to play out, that Mary Sue is still gonna be a Mary Sue. Kinda like how the Mary Sue of God Eater 1 is named in God Eater 2 and he's still a Mary Sue in that canon, but it was just an avatar for you to play as in the game.

You could afk the second half of a raid boss and still hold aggro in WoW. As DPS go, Lancer (Dragoon) or Pugilist (Monk) might be good close-quarters picks, or if you try a Tank, Marauder (Warrior) is a greataxe user that thinks it's a DPS.

Oh, I don't care about physical. Last game I bought on disc was the first Half-Life, which coincidentally is when I started using Steam and haven't really gone a day without using it since.

Granted, that is a really stupid limitation. The game already opens a launcher separately, I don't understand why they felt the need to make that distinction, but I appreciate being able to use my steam wallet to pay for the sub.

I'm level 43 as a warrior and I've put all of my points into VIT so far. Should I be focusing on STR gear/accessories or VIT in the future? I heard that VIT provides damage now, but does it completely outclass investing in STR?

Always use VIT gear. It offers the same amount of damage at STR does.
You only ever meld STR materia on gear.

vitality accessories have more vitality than strength accessories have strength, and they also provide hp.

tldr; stick with full vit and meld str materia onto your accessories
