Related question that kinda spurred the thought: Is the story of FE such that it's worthwhile playing the games in chronological order? I've basically only played through Fire Emblem on GBA and Fire Emblem Awakening and I'm curious about getting more into the series, but I wasn't sure how the story and lore "worked" in the series. Whether they're all pretty standalone or if I'll be missing a lot by not playing the games in the right order.

Incredible scale, surprisingly balanced, a good story, probably the best use of eugenics child units in the series, introduced the weapon triangle.
The downside, however, is the fact that the maps are fucking huge and take forever to traverse. Which is somewhat helped by the fact that 3/4ths of your army is on horseback, but unfortunately it sucks for your on foot troops. It's easily the best game in the series for mounted units, anyway.
