Hello everyone, Inimod here.

As promised the community will have a bit more input for the next update (and the next ones as well ofc). Therefore, this wednesday we will have a testing session on the server where we will together go through the content that will be added, to check for any errors or potential improvements. As of right now, we have no set time other than during wednesday.

The session will last atleast 4-6 hours (maybe more depending on how much content there is) to allow everyone the proper time to check through the content and will be held in the Lounge.

It is, let me tell you why.

There are two parts of a motive, the motivation, and the intent.

Motive is the reason why they could conceivably commit the crime. Shit like being abused constantly or being fired.

Intent is the mental state of the accused that actually led to the crime being committed. The defense can prove the witness had the motivation to commit the crime, but the intent is virtually impossible to prove because nobody was there to gauge the witness's mental state, they've hid it well enough, and there isn't evidence that can prove their mental state.

Means and opportunity are more important. If the defense proves that the witness is the only one who could have committed the crime, then motive means fuck all because the defendant LITERALLY didn't do it.

There are people who come back after several months and download each individual update, either due to poor internet or for other reasons, who don't always read everything in the the Other section. If that's the case, why would this hypothetical person download 1.2GB of music or 600mb of sprites they already have? The average returning player is not Gregory Edgeworth, although granted, I'm sure Gregory players have returned on occasion.

People coming back want to play as quickly as possible. If they have one or two updates to download, they'll download those. If they don't remember what update they're on, or they have a dozen updates to go through, (and we have no version file in our installs, so this is observably the case) then they download the full client and work from there.

Nobody cared who I was until I put on the mask! wanted it or the optimised sprites until I brought them up in the first place, and in the end nobody else actually worked on them. In short, this proves that if they don't know they exist they will not want them. The only type of person who will want it, who does not know it exists, is a new player, and they will download the full download, perhaps after the base game, perhaps before. The harm of linking them is more links in front of new people, that they don't need to get the game running, that might intimidate them.

There's always been a demand for smaller updates, however.

I've asked that if they're put up on that page, it be made very clear that new players don't need to ever download them, and that they're in the full download. The con vastly outweighs the pro in my eyes, and I would prefer that the links were sequestered away in updates, as they are now, if they're going to continue to be available for individual download at all.

Dahlia.

You can think of three key words when you want to summarize her: Subtle, sadistic, pitiable.

To really appreciate her, you have to compare her to the past two "final bosses" in the series: Manfred and Matt. Manfred was straightforward from the get-go. He's a large and in charge force of nature that's intimidating as fuck, sadistic, meticulous, and obsessed with perfection. He's a great villain, but he's a fucking cartoon character that does outrageously stupid things for the sake of really petty revenge. Matt gave us one of the best Ace Attorney-subverting twists in the series, but again, he's a massive cartoon villain after the reveal. Sadistic and assholish for really petty reasons.

Dahlia, on the other hand, is introduced with more restraint. You know that she's the killer because it's the first case, and Nick can't be the culprit, but her behavior comes off as genuinely innocent and sweet to the point where you could legitimately start to doubt if there would be a third witness. As you start breaking down her contradictions, her behavior shifts to something more sinister while still retaining that aura of sweetness. To put it simply, Manfred was intimidating because he was scary, but Dahlia is intimidating because you're the only person in the room who isn't charmed by her, and she knows it.

Then she's taken out in the first case, and in every other game, this would be the end. But T&T is unique in that Dahlia is a villain that has a story-heavy presence in the entire game. She's the person who tried to kill Phoenix, which makes her immediately unlikable. In the fourth case, she's the cause of immense hardship for Mia, Terry Fawkes, Miles, Diego, and her sister Iris. Case one establishes that she's manipulative, but the fourth case shows that everyone around her are just means to an end for her.

But unlike Matt and Manfred, Dahlia has an extra layer to her that grounds her in reality. She's a sad, pitiable human being that never succeeded at anything. Her mother and father abandoned her and Iris because of their lack of spiritual affinity, so Dahlia wanted to survive with her intelligence and cunning. She hates Phoenix because he dared to be idealistic in a world she thought was entirely bleak, and she hated Mia because she was a successful idealist who happened to be from the Fey clan. Her motivations are purely human, and her failures in some way garner sympathy in spite of all the awful things she pulls.

Ultimately, she has three cases where she's the primary antagonist and three major characters who were harmed greatly by her actions. She's such a great villain that even when she's dead she somehow managed to be tenacious enough to be a threat to Phoenix and co.

The whole case was an emotional rollercoaster, from Cammy's Cammies to June's feels trip, to MATT ENGARDING DAT ASS: PART 2, and everything in-between.

Greg stayed vigilant, me(Godot) and Klav had an absolute blast, both Judge Gants were fantastic, and fluffy got it all on doc. One of the best cases I've had in a while.

And I'm glad you were a part of it too, even if you weren't there the whole time!

So, I stumbled on Hazama when browsing the other servers. And after testing him a bit, he didn't seem to be off in the setting of the game and he looked pretty fun to play as.

After hearing the feedback as to why the people did not like him the first time around, I got the following:
- green hair looks weird
- he's too edgy
- his lip flaps are two frames

After a few further discussions, I decided to go with the following:
1) Dye his hair red, so it would be a more regular hair color.
2) Make his lip flaps 4 frames, in the style of AA characters.
3) Get rid of easily exploitable emotes or ones that don't fit him at all (To be clear here, there were two emotes that were just cropped and poorly resized fan art of him. Along with those, there was pic related, that would look really weird as it would make him stand with his feet on the benches, when being a pro/def, or make him look like he is floating when on any other /pos. Lastly there was one emote that had him without a hat, hair floating in the air all Goku style and that emote did not fit the set at all, mostly because there was only one of them. If it were something like a second form, sure, but it was only one emote and really out of place as it were.)
4) Add AA appropriate emotes. (This meant adding in a "slam" emote, as well as a "damage" emote, as he had none. On top of that, after looking through his BlazBlue sprites set, I added in things like him walking in and out of the court, kind of like Paul's emotes.)

All of these together, I tried to bring forth more of a laid back and relaxed, yet sly personality for him, as opposed to the edgy personality he currently gives of in BlazBlue.

As for playing him, my thought process was that, thanks to his design, he can be played as a private detective of sorts, kinda like Cabanela, as well as a mafia boss or goon, thanks to him being dressed very "1940s", but also as a lawyer of choice.

So, yeah. That's basically it.
