i said +r specifically he was garbo. he lost the insane 6p, 6h groundbounce and so his general combo routing and damage was iffy. he had strong setplay as usual, but confirming a solid knockdown happened less often, so he played more neutral in a game with zappa, faust, testament, and millia all being top tier.

venom neutral is really strong, but it's also pretty risky because of all the counter hit recovery state moves he has to commit to so he can get the advantage in it with ball sets (and all these moves have long startup too). when he no longer has a reliable anti-air that converts into damage (ac 6p), people are more willing to take the jumping risk, so now it's even harder for him to gain space. and then those far range chars (zappa, faust, testament) all have stronger neutral at most points on screen, equally strong setplay, equal or slightly better pressure (especially midscreen), and they have reversals.

Even in +R he can comeback thanks to the new FB and overdrive he has that makes his ball sets go everywhere on the screen. So his neutral is the strongest in this version than any other version. He still has his AC AA in +R but they switched that with 6K now that his old 6P is back. Venom never had a reversal in any version of GG so he relied on dead angles to get out of pressure or blocking. I usually see venom's AA in +R go like this 6P>c.Sx2>6K>S carcass raid>dubious curve for knockdown to get his setplay started from there. I do agree he is not as high tier as he was in AC because he lost damage and 6H groundbounce but in +R he is no where near gabage. Devs get most of their budget when they develop the game, after that many people get taken off the project.
