Read the General problems FAQ before asking questions. If you still need help, post your specs (speccy screenshot), OS, emulator version number and details of what's wrong.

Please contribute to the wiki if you discover any inaccuracies or have relevant information to append.

READ THE WIKI BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE:
>Where do I get games
OR
>What is the best emulator for...

Check out the wiki for the emulator you're using if you run into trouble, there may be a solution there too, often including recommendations for optimal game settings.

Remember to submit bug reports or shit won't get fixed.

The reason why I can't play Daytona USA on my linux machines is because some retards refuse to release the source of a windows only emulator?

>>
>>169406843
Don't kid yourself, most systems beyond Dreamcast don't have anything but a single playable emulator. NDS and PSP are an exception because they're both handhelds, relatively simple and in case of NDS there was a lot of autists willing to work on it like with all Nintendo systems.
>>
>>169407159
So was JPSCP. Its not like PPSSPP popped up out of thing air. A lot of knowledge learned from JPSCP was applied in it.

>>169408180
>NDS and PSP are an exception because they're both handhelds
And what is a 3DS perchance?
>>
>>169406843
JPSCP was coded in java according to the wiki, and it wasn't originally intended to be an emulator but a debugger, that's why something else came along. I don't see the same thing going with Citra.
>>
>>169408524
I'd like to be proven wrong but I think 3DS is complex enough that starting a completely new emulator would be a waste of time for a potential developer, especially considering writing emulators is not the hottest thing you can do to land yourself a job

I don't know what it was about let's say N64 that made people write so many emulators of it, but I think coders nowadays would rather work on something that would make them employable, that's why you see such a decrease in new emulation projects and increase in paid shit like Cemu
>>
>>169408958
>and it wasn't originally intended to be an emulator but a debugger
You need to accurately emulate a system's instructions to be a functional debugger for it.
There is a very good reason why most emulators have built in debugging features.

>starting a completely new emulator would be a waste of time for a potential developer
I beg to differ. Citra's code is low quality. Sticking to that code-base could actually hinder progress, at least for some developers. I know I've wasted time in the past by using someone else's low quality code instead of writing my own. If the code is of quality, then I would generally agree that it's a waste of time.

The Daytona USA re-release that was on PS3/Xbox 360 was in reality using a modified version of the Nebula Model 2 emulator. That deal with Sega is probably why you have never seen the source, and also why the 'source' he did share with MAME is not to be redistributed.

Add on top of that MAME being incompetent and not able to do anything with his sources and Model 2 emulation is not going to get anywhere fast. Plus, MAME sucks at making anything performant anyway, so if even assuming there were smart devs who were capable of backporting it to MAME, it'd be software only and dogslow.

But seriously, yeah at least wait for objective Ryzen benchmarks. If what the current benchmarks suggest is true, AMD will finally have better per-core performance than Intel, making their processors better for emulation.

If you don't intend to invest in a new motherboard and want to stick with Intel's 1151 socket, the i5-6600 should handle most PS2 games well enough.

Begging for source code is honestly pathetic. Non-coders have no business wasting any developer's time by begging for code to be open sourced. If you aren't going to help out, then don't bother wasting anyone else's time.

There are plenty of open source projects that are dead.

It really depends on how complex the games are. Minecraft, for example, visually is almost flawless besides water being a little wonky. The FPS on there is around 25-30.

Persona 5 I believe is still in the single digit FPS range, and the graphics are broken.

They demand, whine, cajole, and get downright insulting towards the developers, which might very well work when the person they're yelling at is making minimum wage at the local Piggly-Wiggly and has a manager who will appease them just to get out of the store. Why does anyone care about Byuu? He's an irrelevant nobody now. He's done. He doesn't make meaningful contributions to anything. There's way more consoles that need good emulation. Saturn is getting worked on. Playstation is getting worked on. etc. Focus on those and those devlopers. Not nobody fat gay weeb losers.

There's one benchmark using CPUZ that shows the 1600X clocked at 3.7Ghz being 2 points behind (1890 vs 1888) a Skylake based Xeon clocked at 3.8GHz, but it's a synthetic benchmark so there's no telling how true this is gonna be in practice but it does mean Ryzen is a viable alternative at the very least (synthetic benchmark are rarely more than 5-10% away form practical use especially those who claim to reflect general CPU performance levels)
The one thing that is bad for emulation from what I understand is that Ryzen isn't good at AVX.and AVX is used in almost all the really heavy emulators right now.

Have you guys tried emulation on the new pentium G4560? I'm just curious to know how well it fairs.

My old dual core Core2Duo E8400 couldn't do PS2/Gamecube emulation at all, I never managed a playable framerate with that cpu. Then when I upgraded to my quad-core i5 cpu, that shit became child's play and could emulate every game effortlessly.

The G4560 is a dual core chip, so I worry that cpu will be trash for emulation, but it is new with a high clockspeed and does hyperthreading, so maybe it can handle WiiU emulation and the like.

>>
>>169649995

>>
>>169633690

It does do something unique. After the loading screen it requires an update. With that update installed, it can proceed to the menu with a save.

If the dev was just coming up with game specific buggy fixes as new games get released, there's no way this game would boot at all, unless he has clairvoyance . Or he stole Zelda's source code the same way he stole their SDKs, the way open source fags would like us to believe.

And a current-gen game booting on emulators at all is NOT something mundane. Talk about moving goalposts.
>>
>>169674585

Sony tried throwing every thing in the book at the people who wrote Bleem and Connectix VGS. Profiting off my IPs, unauthorized use of the name, breaking DRM, no clean room reverse engineering, encouraging piracy...

And it all got rejected by courts. Even the clean room reverse engineering was deemed by the US judge NOT a requirement, and justified because of the locks Sony put on the hardware.

Sony failed miserably. Nintendo stopped sending scary legal letters like they did to UltraHLE and stopped patent-trolling programming tricks used in emulators like with the NES homebrew emulator on GBA.

Nowadays they just wait for the off chance an emulator dev includes stuff like BIOS or keys or copyrighted logos and ROMs in their emulator. Even if CEMU's dev was really peeking at Nintendo's SDKs or getting tips from insiders, the court precedent by Sony also protects dirty room reverse engineering for emulator specifically.

Japan's laws are even better, they were among the first countries to include exemptions for reverse engineering in their copyright law. One of the first emulators for the NES was done by Yuji Naka for the Genesis and distributed among friends.

Just got Wind waker HD to work on Cemu, and it ran great at first.
But when I reached the first dungeon it started tanking from time to time, The boss was a complete disaster. Every time I hooked the dragons tail the game slowed down to 10fps or something.
What gives? Is it my settings or is the game?
>>
>>169690402
1.7.2?
Try hostbased timer.
Did you get a transferable shadercache?

I heard that 1.7.2 improved Windwaker's trouble in the first dungeon, but I haven't tried it yet myself.

Cemu was set to hostbased timer by default.
Where do I get the transferable shadercache?

The dungeon wasn't the only place it chugged either, right after when I was heading for the deku tree one of those large squids popped up and made the game chug itself to death.

This is my rig, except that the CPU is OC'd to 3.9Ghz and I have 16gb RAM now.
>>
>>169691106
Wiki has details on shadercaches.
You have a pretty similar setup to me. I get random framerate drops to 15fps but that was on 1.7.1 and may have been fixed by now.
>>
>>169691163
>>169691106
Here's a video by the way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HqkbmW84Ac
Sometimes it seems that transferable shadercache causes this problem, other times it just seems to happen anyway.

Why Win8.1?
>>
>>169691163
Can't seem to find a shader cache for wind waker HD on the wiki.
By the way does the bicubic upscale filter equal to 4k upscaling? Because that might be the problem in that case.

>>169691413
Old screenshot.
>>
>>169691445
Check the cemu page, there should be links to them there, unless someone got rid of them. Reddit has a bunch of fully compiled caches. I think it's /r/cemucache.

Bicubic is just sharper, I think. Uses more CPU. 4K textures will also require more CPU so don't use those if you want to improve performance.

I checked /r/cemucache out and couldn't find anything for WW HD.
It says that I should delete the transferable and precompiled shader cache if i'm experiencing stutters.
Pic related.
But I can't really see that helping since I will be generating my own as I play instead.

It's just something that happens with precompiled shadercaches. It'll run smoother for the mostpart because there's no shader stutter, but occasionally you'll get random framerate drops like in the video here: >>169691413
IF that happens, then deleting the shadercache will improve it.

How come you have to build the shader cache to begin with? Isn't this something that could be extracted from game files beforehand? I realise that it would've been done if it was easy, just thinking out loud.
>>
>>169693752
It's specific to graphics cards and their drivers or something.
I don't really understand it very well myself.

Complete newbie to emulation here, got pcsx2 and wanted to try and emulate MGS3, FFX, P4 and maybe Prince of persia too, just wanted to know in advance if a NVIDIA GeForce GT620 would be enough to run these smoothly enough or if these games in particular have any high requirements that the board couldn't handle.
>>
>>169693816
CPU is more the important thing for emulation. Just try them out. You might not be able to upscale them to make them look nice, but you can probably do native.
>>
>>169693816
Whats your CPU?

Also play the PC ports of Prince of Persia instead of emulating it.
No emulator runs any of the three games properly.

Is it worth looking into Ryzen even when emulation on AMD is usually shit?
>>
>>169698227
Wait for intel to bring out there thing that does what ryzen does better.
>>
>>169698291
how long would that potentially take you think?

I've got the money and willing to make a PC but I could wait if it is worth it

is there any rumors or whatever for Ryzen competition?
>>
>>169698419
It's bound to happen fairly soon.
Ryzen hasn't been fully reviewed yet anyway. Wait and see if there are any glaring issues with it before you commit.
>>
>>169698419
6 threads coffe lake - next year?
Next next generation Intel will be released in ~2019
>>
>>169698502
alright then, I guess I wait
>>
>>169698616
I'm not waiting 2019, I just wanted something with about the same "leaked" performance of Ryzen but for intel
>>
>>169698419
Too long to be worth it especially when intel isn't gonna magically pull 40% improvement in performance after getting rid of their development cycle where one gen in 2 is a massive 15-20% improvement because they couldn't maintain it (inb4 meme 6/8/10 core chips that aren't any useful in practical uses nevermind emulation), although that depends on what you're currently using.
If you're on Sandy bridge or better you can likely wait if not just aim for a lowish Ryzen (provided they're actually as good as the benchmark lead people to believe) build like the 1300X/1400X1600X (Zen+ is already scheduled for 2018 so no need to commit to hard in the first gen especially if there's a massive flaw revealed at some point after the first month).

Basically right now the worst case scenario is Ryzen is basically Haswell with HT and more cores but worse clock best case scenario is Ryzen is Kaby Lake with HT and more cores and worse OC potential.

Right now the only confirmed thing is that you can't use 4 sticks of RAM at frequency higher than 2400mhz (2 works fine up to 3200mhz) and that the 8 core chip can't seem to really clock much higher than 4.1 on air..
>>
>>169699470
I dont have a desktop at all, all I have is a shitty laptop and since I recently got a decently paying job, I can afford a PC now

I'm willing to wait for a few months for what intel has to offer, but I'm not waiting until 2019
>>
>>169700472
Wait for a month after release to see if there's any major issues with Ryzen or if intel tries to price drop Kaby Lake to counter it, then decide between the two.
If you really really want it now Kaby Lake isn't a bad choice either imo, if money is not a problem obviously since you're gonna pay extra.
>>
>>169700901
I didnt want Ryzen at all honestly and my first choice was actually an 7770k

how much better would coffee lake be? potentially 15% more according to one article I read and it's coming out 2017 according to the same article so if that is the case I'm willing to wait

money is not a problem for sure, well I'm not spending a grand for a CPU
>>
>>169701171
Nigga just get a 7770K
If an emulator runs poorly on that then that emulator is simply not worth using.
>>
>>169701171
Just get a 7700k, Coffee Lake isn't worth waiting on especially if it turns out to be the same shitshow as Broadwell and Skylake.
>>
>>169701171
sometimes new CPUs have small new things that make a difference when it comes to emulation

I think it was Haswell, that didn't have a major improvement compared to the last architecture in games, however due to some new shit it had, the dolphin performance was a noticeable jump, so it's hard to tell
>>
>>169701305
Doesn't the 7700k run hot as fuck? I wouldn't get it.
>>
>>169686184

>>
>>169706353

I'd probably take the risk of deliding if temperature is an issue.
>>
>>169706353
>Doesn't the 7700k run hot as fuck? I wouldn't get it.
On stock cooling yeah you hit 95°C easily, on good air colling it never really goes past 75°C which is about normal for intel these days.

I will tell you something, very important!

Emulation is theft and you are retards who believe that emulation and piracy are just copying and they will harm no one. This what you believe is just a big lie! People are working for hours and hours with their love, while losing their blood and sweat, just to make quality products and achieve their happinnes. And what are you doing? You are stealing someones property. Pathetic!

When people pirate, the companies and it’s employees won’t get money, they will be demotivated and die. They loved their work. While demotivated, they will do nothing. Now they will just let their family starve, or die while diseased. You pirates are selfish sociopaths who love getting things for free! Just go crying like a little baby screaming “Why can’t I get this game for PC for free?”.

You wonder why? THEY HAVE THE FUCKING RIGHT TO DO THIS! DO NOT QUESTION THEIR PLANS! If you want this game, buy the console and the game! If you are so poor and if the game is too expensive for your poorfag brain, just get off the screen and get a fucking job you manchild! Work your ass off, then earn the needed money! Why is it so hard? You are either a retarded underage or a mentally ill adult.

Video games MUST always be a luxury for third world shitholes. Third world countries are uncivilized and barbaric, so they deserve to eat shit! If you live in a third world shithole, move fucking away or obey their rules! As many people say, “OBEY YOUR MASTERS” and “THE WEAK SHALL FEAR THE STRONG”!

If you are underage, go away from this site and DO NOT EVER THINK ABOUT IT! You underages aren’t developed and the most of you are retarded. Just drop your child imaginations and live in reality. Truth hurts, but you must love it. Everything must be paid, you brainlet! If you fight against the system and if you are proud to be a filthy pirate, there is a special place in hell waiting for you!

You freetard scum are destroying the world!

It'll take a lot longer to get round to adding the sort of stuff you want. I can see draw distance being a lot harder to code a patch for than the bloom effect thing we've seen in windwaker.
Once it's running well, it might be able to hold a stable framerate, unlike on the WiiU.

Hi faggots

Just started getting retroarch running on my TV-box, phone and PC.

What is the best cloud program/app to use so I can save and load my save and state files on all different systems easily?

Whats the easiest to set up with less hassle?

Would be nice to have this kind of shit integrated in Retroarch with an account system if any of you developers lurk here.
>>
>>169792631
Suggest it on the git. Make sure to mention that it would be a good incentive for patreons to be able to cloudhost their saved games on the new retroarch servers.
>>
>>169772029

>>

>Does the RA version of SNES9X have some memery like mednafen where savestates interfere/fuck up hard saves
No because emulators of cartridge based games store game save data in the save states whereas for systems which have memory cards(like PS2,GC,PS1 etc) such a thing is not possible.
