SCfags seriously need to get on making an ironic and good org before we become the fucking caliphate.

I'm not saying I won't equip a size 4 missile on an Aurora and launch it twenty feet before I impact the side of some solo dad at full AB speed, we just need a better name.

Not really restless with my money. MIS -> Hurricane is only 5 bux and I can just melt that stupid little Arclite Laser Pistol for that, and Bucc -> Base Lancer is 0.

I'm sure the Hurricane will go back on sale again for some stupid events but I worry it will be more expensive then. I probably should just wait for at least the Bucc to be flyable. MISlancer never, of course.

Or here's a wild idea, have an articulated pilot canopy like every fightercraft ever, and then have the bubble turret for the gunner open up so he can hop in and out.

BUT NAH, lets waste a ton of internal volume that could be put to good use on a bulky chair lift rack and the empty space that has to be there for it to pass through.

My will is to be the most savage pirate possible. As fun as your org is on it's face, I'm not sure it would further my goals in this way.

I am looking for or are willing to form an org based on the following interests.

>Primary role for revenue and acquiring property must be piracy or protection tax.

>The main goal is the acquisition of property and ships, especially big ones.

>A mutually enforced code of not intentionally destroying ships or killing crew, as the first option.

>Crews that surrender will be spared and provided a means of safe rescue. (This will not only keep dads in check, but will improve compliance, if our reputation for sparing crews is known)

>A secondary role of punishing freelance pirates and griefers. Freelance pirates will pay a heavy tribute to be allowed to operate, griefers that threaten piracy as a profession will be considered hostile.

>Honor within the org. This doesn't mean being nice. This means that if two members have a dispute, they will: talk it out if possible, adjudicate it if agreeable, shoot it out if necessary. All disagreements will be settled, or both complainants will be eliminated.

>Strict separation from 4chan and leddit, at all times. This board will be the primary recruitment spot, at first. It will be a silent understanding in game that we do indeed share a common interest in this bullshit, but referencing it in the open will be an immediately bannable offense.

>No particular rules other than that. Just enough structure to allow for organization and force multiplication without anything to limit personal ambition for those who will take what they want.

Is anyone else interested in such a place? Since we know Spectrum will allow for org rooms, and piracy looks to be actually legit, I'm willing to write a proper charter if there is enough interest.

I started following because of an SC leak after 2.6 was in evocati. I half converted to edg because I had over 300 hours in ED before and had already put the revolver away once. Going to Quince changed the game for me, but I'm hoping 3.0 for SC is done before I get the revolver out again over fucking engineers. I only have an not engineered FAS and a Hauler. I went to the CG and spammed chat in a sidewinder once, but that's it. I couldn't figure out how to kill anyone, because I wasn't up on the latest ramming shit in a sidewinder meta yet.

I'm punishing the SC dads who post "first" on every thread, who think Connies are fighters, who think soloing an Idris with paid crews will work somehow, who think having some faggot org allows them to RP corrupt police in the PU.

That's why I went when another anon posted to go fuck with dads at the community thing. That was the first time I played in months. I realized I wasn't anywhere near equipped to properly grief, so I set out to Quince. Now I got an FAS and foot in the door with engineers.

Sounds like we had a little miscommunication. I fully support non consent PvP in open games. Breaking Point was the most visceral PvP game I've played so far. I'm hoping SC can get that brutal when you have tense space standoffs with capital ships on the line.

They're probably trying to make some buddy ships where a second player can join you and shoot shit up. Unfortunately with the way ships fly, especially nimble fighters, turrets just don't work properly. Maybe CIG has a plan in the future to properly overhaul both the turrets and the flight of the ships to make them work well together. As long as that Hurricane has the ability to twist and turn on a dime, that turret gunner is gonna have a bad time.

>>
>>169346912
>Why cant the game track cargo in ships instead of forcing you to transfer cargo and dump all drones
I suspect that it's related to why you can't store cargo at a station.

>>169347013
>Because they don't want to save that data because there are no real servers
That sounds likely. If a player started leaving cargo lying around the galaxy, the size of the data for that player could get pretty big, pretty quickly.

I'm a DB dev irl, I'll write a little about how I see their DB needs.

As it stands, a player record is pretty small, it's limited to a few ships and their configuration data and one shared storage (right? I'm a noob in-game). Since ships are expensive, we know that the number of them will be small, it's not like you'll have thousands, the order of magnitude on ships is probably going to be tens. Even years from now, few players would have a hundred ships lying around. Probably just a few dozen haulers/sidewinders on some mission-exploit planets and then their main stable of ships which get moved around when needed.

On the other hand, a few years from now players will have visited thousands/tens of thousands of stations.

Because the game is funded up-front and not on subscription, recurring costs need to be minimised. Subscription games can pay for a large DB server from Amazon with the fees from 2 players. It takes the sale of one copy of Elite to pay for the same server for about two months.

So they need to keep data sizes small, even at the expense of complexity and development time. Because Frontier are an old-school company with some very old-school devs, I can make predictions about how they might do it.
...
>>
>>169347560
I'm just not sure how overhauling only turrets will be enough. A gunner can't really shoot at someone or something when an air craft is doing barrel rolls constantly
>>
>>169348257
>...

Every module on the ship could be encoded as a number; it has its base type, module slot, engineer modifications and damage.
Those are just prime numbers that you multiple together to get one number that uniquely identifies that module configuration. The ship itself is nothing more than a type, a set of modules (including paint and bobble-heads) and hull damage.

These can all be stored pretty easily in a binary record that might be compressed first (probably not a good ration on compression though). When the pilot enters the game or changes ships, the ship record is retrieved and decoded and stored temporarily in a more usable format in a cache on the actual game server until a significant change happens to it or the pilot disconnects or changes ships when it gets encoded and written back to the DB. Repair could be written back to the DB but there's no pressing need for damage to be written back, it happens too often and nobody will complain if a server rollback causes their damage to be undone.

Cargo would be something similar but the number of stations to save data at (and unique cargo is another problem) is at least two orders of magnitude larger than the number of ships people would have so the data would expand rapidly and become a significant burden on our unfunded DB servers.

In business terms, using one-off revenue to pay for recurring costs is insane so you'd have to expect that game design will be shaped around minimising recurring costs, which means that complex server-side calculations and data storage cannot be a part of the game in its current form.
>>
>>169348171
>they're just lazy and don't want to implement per-dock storage
It's not laziness, it's business. Their current business model would not survive per-dock storage unless they're selling a lot more copies of the game than we know.

>Primary role for revenue will be theft.
There is a limit to that. The real joint is to get them to hand over the ship and cargo willingly. If you can back it up unequivocally, you can take the ship and cargo without a shot.

>The main goal is making profit and hurting others.
You can't constantly punish. If you beat the dads too much, they will revolt and cry out for a nerf. If you fuck with their heads, you can control the willing among them completely. There will always be people to fight.

>A secondary role of hunting complainants and decriers, to instill fear.
No problem with that. Just got to make sure that they fear you and not just hate you.

>usurped by an underling.
org is based on avarice, what can I say.

>Strict no association with extra-game communications.
this should probably be at the top.

>Structure is biggest is boss.
Piracy will devolve into senseless griefing, unless we steer it's path. Carebears are our biggest threat. That is why now is the time to establish how this will go down.

You mistake my kindness with weakness and that's ok, just different style that's all. I think we are speaking the same language.

>>169349295
Logistics will be critical. The tip of the spear won't have much cargo room.
>>
>>169349431
I wouldn't worry too much about piracy dying out due to care bears.

Chris will try to accommodate them, but he's said before that he himself would either be a bounty hunter or pirate. Our concerns should be in his fore brain.
>>
>>169349586

My biggest concern has been with NPC traders.

Hull ransoming will probably be the name of the game, so if we can't flag them down and negotiate a fee not to blow them up, we're forced to raid them where we wouldn't be with a player.

That'd be mighty gay.
>>
>>169351337
Depends on what the hull is worth. May be a better use of time to blow them up, sell the salvage data, and move on.
>>
>>169351507
True. I'm gonna be rolling with a small crew though, so the less heat that's on us, the better.

Of course, if they don't comply, we'll have to blow them up. Can't go earning a reputation for being a pushover.

There's one Fed group I'm looking at but again they're an avid PP group and I hate Powerplay with a passion so I don't know if they'd spaz out on me if I didn't want to do PP with them.
>>
>>169357959

>occasional roleplay

I meant to say "occasional PvP." I've never really done PvP other than nearly wasting the fuck out of an Anaconda that decided to interdict me while I was in my Dropship. Ganking newfriends and pulling pranks on people isn't really to my taste either so SDC is out of the question, that and they all look like le epic /v/ shitheads that spout memes all day on Discord.
>>
>>169357959

I'd be very interested in this as well. I want a private group with people I can shoot the shit with, do some casual bounty hunting in a wing with or multicrew when that drops. Basically people who don't take the game too seriously, but not so lightly that it turns into a giant memefest with 3 other people in it. Somewhere /comfy/ so I can sit and waste my life drinking beer and whining about the game we're currently playing and hop into when I want and not have it devoid of live (solo) or barely alive (open).

Am I asking for too much?

Disco Lando | CIG@DiscoLando-CIG10:58 pm
Basically production has to cull all the relevant data, go through IC reports, see what worked, what didn't, what still needs fixing, make priorities, then examine progress on intended features, put that all into some production calculus that's way over my head, and then spit out a schedule. Some patches take longer than others, so I don't know when the first version of the 2.6.2 schedule will be ready, but I don't think it's gonna be tonight.

So I'm at 75 million

What ship should I be going for for general combat?

Someone recommended the Vulture a while ago, although I'm not sure how I feel about the hard points, having only 2 large seems kind of limiting, although I really only use Railguns

Seems the federal assualt ship is nicer on the hardpoints, but then I'd have to spend a ton of time grinding ranks right? Why don't they just have a black market where for 200% of the cost I can avoid grinding ranks to get the ship

Thanks
>>
>>169364568

Seeing that the advantage is only 2 medium HPs, I'd say trading the Vulture's awesome mobility for them is not worth it. The only thing the Vulture is "lacking" from being a perfect fighter is forward speed and powerplant capacity, both of which can be remedied by engineers or powermanagement or practice. I'd say try the Vulture first, and if you really don't like it, try the assault ship. The Vulture isn't for everyone, it has a niche playstyle.

Don't even give a fuck.

From what they've shown and what they are telling, the game's exceptionally complex, with many different systems interacting with each other and the player, plus all the assets, plus the netcode, plus animations, plus a whole single player campaign.

I mean, I want to play it now, but given the scope of the project in perspective, I'm not surprised it takes so much time.

The discount applies to modules as well. A-rating a ship will cost several times the price of the ship itself. You'll save millions even on a ship like the Vulture.

Haven't been here in 6+ months. What's the latest on Star Citizen? when does 3.0 come out?

Also, when does the multicrew for Elite come out?
>>

3.0 came out December, it has the Crusader system in it, with a rudimentary cargo/trading system, procedural planets, network overhaul (MASSIVE performance improvement), and some other stuff I can't think of right now.
They also showed a fantastically looking 1-hour-demo of Squadron 42, I mean I never was into the campaign but holy shit it looks nice, their solution for making NPCs less "stiff" and really react to you really really works.

Too late I believe, I ended up spending like 10 minutes trying to get to some "LTT 15899 Excess Mass". Didn't realize how far away it was and that I wasn't going to reach it without jumping and didn't have enough fuel to do it.

After that I got stuck 1 jump out from my mission with no ports in the area with 6.24LY worth of fuel left and the system being 6.4 away.

I found a system at 6.1 and jumped to it, landed damn near on the sun burning up and the system had no one in it but a massive gas planet which I couldn't really reach. I then ran out of power, had 3 minutes of air I used to find out how to SD my ship and was burning up in the last minute being so close to the sun without power.

Again I believe it's too late.

This might be of use for those bothered with rank grind for Federation.
You need a lot of spendable credits (in the excess of a hundred million at least)
You need to go to 17 Draconis.
Either before or after the trip fill your transaction tab with missions of any type from any faction. I'll call this number henceforth bracket 1.
You need to refresh the mission board until one of the federation factions spawns several donation missions, henceforth called bracket 2.
The size of bracket 1 will be dependent on how lucky you get with spawns for bracket 2 - since the most reliable number of donations spawned at the same time for me was 2 I stacked bracket 1 to 18.
After you pick up those donation missions you will need to accept one other mission from another faction at that station. It is imperative that the filling of bracket 2 and selection of a mission above the mission limit is done in within a single mission board refresh.
After you select the mission above the mission limit you will get the limit error.
At that point you hand in the missions from bracket 2.
You then try to accept the mission that gave you the limit error beforehand.
The game should give you a mission board error.
You then go back to the main station menu and open the mission board again.
The missions from bracket 2 should respawn so you can pick them up again.
Repeat until you run out of credits or a rank advancement mission spawns so you can do it and see how your progress bar increases.
This should hold for Empire but I don't know of any good system that spawns donations.
I just did about 12 loops with the same 25k donation missions about 15 minutes ago.

In theory yes, in practice you'll have a lot of newbies and straight up idiot.
But keep in mind that NPC are usually nerfed to be balanced. If you made aimbot-npc capable of managing shield/other with inhuman efficiency the game wouldn't be fair

>I've got all the help I need to take down any ship I want. The question is, do you know enough people to protect your ship?
What are we supposed to answer ? "No my capital ship should be invincible against appropriate anti-cap forces" ?
That's not the point.
NPC capital ship will exist, players will be able to pay enough npc-crew to use capital ship with equal/greater efficiency.
If you can field player or npc squadron of torpedo bomber good for you.
None of us want a few retards in a cutlass be any threat to a military frigate ship (an Endeavor I don't say)

>The way I see it, you have to be lucky every trip. I only have to be lucky once.
I fail to see a logic in that unless you believe that players should have magical advantage over npc.

Not him

On this board, everyone who is even mentioning that CIG wont get to release anything big this year is a Goon.

Star Marine was delayed for a very long time, and both SQ42 and 3.0 will be delayed for even longer.

IF they actually release SQ42 and/or 3.0 this year, both of them will be pretty barebone and only being SQ42/3.0 in the name and not in the features.

I'm not gonna call the SC fanboys drones or anything, because I really REALLY look forward for the game which makes me feel like a fanboy too, but with a healthy dose of sceptisism in some degree.

Everything is delayed beyond all hope.

You're not wrong, but here is the final thing to remember.

Everyone who is still backing wants the best game, however long that takes. The whole point of the KS was to not have a publisher and not have deadlines, so they could take the time to make what has never been done.

Goons can't get over this. The hear one date and sperg the fuck out five minutes after midnight, when it was only a target to begin with. I want 3.0 to be good more than I want it by a particular date. CIG is showing their progress, and there are no serious complaints left. 2.6.x patches needed to happen, anyone who played could see that. Once 3.0 comes out, the pipelines are done and content production goes to full volume. This is just the worst of the deserts.

I saw Chris Roberts at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I won't argue against the Vulture being ugly. It performs excellently, but I don't see why it has to be as large as it is. Like, why is there even a second seat in a fighter with only 2 weapons? Strip the fuel tanks and replace them with external cargo racks, it can still refuel itself on the go, just no scoop up huge amounts for sale.

Good shields, Armored hull, designed as a Hostile space transport.
Lots of space for a large crew/boarding party, multiple EVA access points for quick/sneaky/safe debarkation of boarders.
Large cargo bay to hold loot and supplies + Potential told hold ground vehicles In cargo bay or potentially in Transport Pods on the rail system
Huge amount of Dakka for a cargo ship.
Large enough to serve as a pemanent self contained base station but also capable of planetside landing for either ground assault or concealment/repairs.

It's is a heavily armed and fairly well armored freighter, and the vast majority of Pirate vessels have been converted cargo ships of some sort.

Being able to target shit further out is still a thing, and it does affect how far away you can still target cold/SR ships.
>>
>>169444935

Notice that galaxy map button when choosing missions? Click on that to see where the mission objective's system is relative to you, and then open that system and mouse over stations/bodies to check how far your destination is from the arrival point at the system primary. If you don't have the map data for that system you may be able to buy it from the galaxy map, otherwise you'll have to go there with a discovery scanner and/or scan the local nav beacon to map it out.

Anything measured in hundreds of thousands of light seconds is going to take a while to get to.

there are a shitload of hidden factors within the game that the tutorials will tell you NOTHING about

a ship with a badly maintained paintjob (as in, the lower the percentage of paint job repair) will be more likely to be scanned by system authority ships next to a station

I'm really hoping that after multi-crew, Frontier takes a step back and reviews what's already in their game, aiming to improve what's there instead of adding more tedious and slap-dash bullshit. I hate this game because it's so underutilized; it could be so great, but they don't seem to be slowing down and taking the time to make it great.

Question time.

I figured I'd try a combat mission just to get it out of the way. How the hell do I find these guys? I mean I found two who where in supercruise and I have no idea how to pull someone out of that.

For THOSE missions, however, you need to go to an actual Conflict Zone (look at your Nav Panel), enter it, select a faction on your Functions tab, and kill the required number of targets of the necessary faction.

Conflict Zones can be a pain if you're not geared up for it.

I'm not a ED player but from what I know they may not be able to.

ED is built with a bottom-up design with mass procedural generation of content just like earlier Elite game.

But that's its own problem.
In a bottom-up design and large scale procedural generation mean that you can't handcraft some gameplay because it have to be seen by the players wherever they are and keep working even with random variation.
As a result everything is homogeneous and the fun is drown in a sea of average tediousness.

On the opposite, Star Citizen problem with top-down design is that its features will barely be playable until all are added. 80% of the cargo-ship are pointless/broken without the diverse-market that cater only to them, sensor/explorer-ship have the same problem until there's planets/ruins/nebula/wrecks, stealth/boarding-ship can't work until docking+EMP+unsafe trade route, capital ship can't happen until npc-crew is added...and so on.
And if something turn out impossible in the end, whole game is fucked up.

>tl;dr
>computer generating content mean it can fuck it up unless you take no risk
>creating most content by hands take a lot of time just to get it barely playable.

I do agree that this is nice but a key thing to concepts like this is giving you some hint that they are actually at play. Being told them about them is neat but I don't feel any different when I'm flying around in my 50% paintjob Annie, but that's because the world around me is fucking dead as shit and all NPCs can say is "Good job I found you first."

For example, getting scanned less in systems where I'm friendly with the station faction makes sense because they are friendly to me. Getting scanned because I don't maintain my ship well... kinda makes sense? But there's no way to indicate that the reason I'm getting scanned is my paintjob unless some faggot tells me so. I hope they make the world feel more alive so that things like this become more apparent without having to resort to meta to finding them out.

My (and I guess many others aswell) problem with CIG and CR aint that they are using a long time making SC.
The wait is NOT the problem.

The problem here IS that CIG and mostly CR is lying to the backers about how close they are being able to show something, all the time!

If he tell us "it's about 1 year until we can release 3.0, at least.", then that would be fine, but that would lower peoples "need" to buy ships because they would wait until we are closer to release.

CIG's business is to tell people they are close to something big so people will spend money on ships to make them feel "ready" for what is told is right around the corner, when in fact its a long way ahead and that CIG needs the money because of the long dev time that is actually required.

I'm really looking forward for this game, but I'm getting really fucking tired about all those lies we are being fed in the hope that we will spend more money before we actually get a hold of something worthwhile.

That's correct.
They DONT have anything big.

But CR and now ER aswell are saying that we are going to have 2-3 big releases this year, same as they told us last year. (which I guess wont happen).

So they need to keep the hype alive should they be able to sell ships this year and keep a steady economy.

Most likely they have enough money for 2 more years I guess, but they always need more in case SC takes 4 more years.
>>
>>169478043
or they realized a couple things were going to hold them up longer than they thought, so he decided to add additional features as well that are in early stages, like they've done with every major patch since DFM.
>>
>>169485989
His excuse for not updating the production schedule is "they need to make the schedule first". Instead of saying "the community team fucked up again and needs more time to compile material we can actually show to you" he's somehow trying to blame it on the devs, implying that they don't have a schedule yet, which is bullshit obviously.
>>
>>169486203
That's the thing, we dont know.

We can only guess by interpreting what they show and tell us. Which makes everything look like lies and deception.

SC is literally the worst part of E:D, because while people will say its to "capture the size of the galaxy", in reality it takes so long because its the majority of the game, and if it was instant people would realize there is nothing to it if you're doing anything other than combat.

Endless travel is the "artificial gameplay" of this game. Like how the typical open world game makes you cross an entire map which can take 20 minutes to do multiple times for quests. ED employs the same idea. Makes it seem like the game is bigger, makes it seem like there's more "content" if it takes longer. Makes it feel like you've got your money's worth. It makes me wonder how much of the hours I have recorded for this game was literal non gameplay.

From Wikipedia:

"During a regular maintenance spacewalk on February 3, 2006, in which several panels on the Biorisk experiment system had to be removed to prepare it for collection, an accident occurred during the removal of a jammed mounting bracket, causing some damage to itself and the panel. With the end of the EVA period approaching, an attempt to force it open was made by Major Ivanovich. The weakened bracket gave way, tore part of the panel free, and Ivanovich was accidentally launched from the ISS, into his own separate orbit."

"The other members of the three man crew, also on EVA at the time, were unable to mount an effective rescue mission in time. Upon returning to the inside of the station, the crew contacted control staff at both Korolyov and JSC. After thirty minutes of discussion, it was found that there were no safe options for retrieval available to the ISS crew, and the decision to abandon Ivanovich was made. Crew on the ISS, as per Roscosmos orders, closed communications with him, and he was left to drift alone."

"Several shortwave enthusiasts reported being able to capture faint voice and telemetry data from his suit, with telemetry data persisting until February 18th. On September 7, 2006, at 16:00 GMT, Major Ivanovich re-entered the Earth's atmosphere over the Southern Ocean at 110.4° East longitude and 46.3° South latitude."

What's your combat rank? A-rank Vulture is probably best if you only have 40mil spare.

A word of warning: getting to allied status with the factions of a system in civil war doesn't always guarantee loads of massacre missions. It's why most people wait for 17 Draconis to go into civil war.

Hey,

I've really wanted to get into playing a "space game" for a long time now and found Elite Dangerous quite interesting looking.
I'd like to start playing ASAP, so here are a few questions:

1. Does the game have some kind of co-op mode where me and a friend can play together?

2. Is ED the game I'm looking for or are there other "better" space games out there?

3. Which edition do I buy?
Pic related is what steam store has to offer, but I'm kind of at a loss as to which pack/edition I have to buy to get the most out of my money.

Would appreciate if somebody could help me out here, cheers.

If you're new, it's worth familiarising yourself with the system map & BGS. Factions have different temperaments, criminalities, propensities towards certain states. You can find some of that information using the system map. Factions also own certain installations, which determines whether there is a strong police presence, black market. Factions also like to fight over stations.

The empty size 2 and the military slot will have the module reinforcements, I use 2D and 5D. You don't really need a 4A FSD if you're willing to jump around with your ASP and then ship transfer it wherever you need.

Heres an unengineered Vulture build I use in CZ's, RES, and the rare assassination mission. You can run the pulse for a while with only 2 pips in wep and most npcs don't have tanky enough shields to be annoying. If you find yourself taking too much fire just put 4 pips to sys and jump out. If your shields go down use silent running and run away. Always target the powerplant and try to destroy it asap. Focus targets that have their shields down and are already under fire. Don't shoot at Vipers or Cobras, they often take too long to be worth it. Eagles are ok thanks to how squishy they can be, same with SLFs. Remember to stay in the blue section for fast turning and abuse your strong vertical thrusters to stay out of firing arcs.

Sorry for the wall of text, I hope it was helpful.

Yes and no. You can try to play with your friends. It may or may not work. There's nothing you can really do together.

There are in production games like SC, though ED is certainly still in production. There is Hellion and Dual Universe also, among other games.
>>
>>169512991

Thanks, that explains a lot. Do you encounter these people in multiplayer or something?

Also, another follow up question: Is ED purely multiplayer, meaning I could actually enounter other players when I play the campaign or do missions/quests?
>>
>>169513247

>1. Does the game have some kind of co-op mode where me and a friend can play together?

There are no co-op missions, but the game is easier with collaboration. Multicrew is the next update, which allows you and your friends to share the same ship.

>2. Is ED the game I'm looking for or are there other "better" space games out there?

There is nothing better at the moment. One would might even say E:D is fun.

>3. Which edition do I buy?

Depends how much you like the game. You need the expansion to land on planets, or use the engineers. It's worth trying the base game first to see whether you like it.
>>
>>169513679
>There are no co-op missions
Oh, that kinda sucks.

>One would might even say E:D is fun.
Thats what I was hoping for.

>You need the expansion to land on planets, or use the engineers. It's worth trying the base game first to see whether you like it.

Well, is landing on planets or using engineers important and/or worthwile?
>>
>>169513674
You can go just about anywhere you want, as long as there is a good war or civil war. All you have to do is get your buddy buddy meter high for whichever faction you're fighting for and then stack a bunch of missions. People like 17D because the system consistently goes into war and they don't have to start from scratch. Even if you don't know exactly what your doing you can get it done in a matter of hours by taking missions and turning in combat vouchers. Once you do start getting good paying missions (they also are based on your combat rank I believe) you have to sit in the station for a while switching between open, solo and private group while stacking 20 or so missions. I don't know the exact values but I'm pretty sure the boards refresh somewhere between every 5-15 minutes. Another reason people like 17D is the high number of massacre missions that spawn because its like 200 LY from the nearest populated system.
>>
>>169514193
engineers are quite important if you want to be reasonably successful in combat
>>
>>169513519
>Do you encounter these people in multiplayer

Sort of. They're usually holed up in their own "private" "servers". Occasionally you'll get the one asshole that thinks he is impervious to any piracy, goes into Open, gets pirated and or killed and complains about it on their forums or plebbit.
>>
>>169514193

>engineers important and/or worthwile?

Depends what you're goal is. If you want to blast forumdads out the sky, then they are useful since they allow you to be competitive with other players. Engineering isn't needed to be competitive with the NPCs, however.

> is landing on planets important and/or worthwile?

Planets are pretty, and you can raid bases on the surface with your srv. There are high paying /reputation increasing missions available. You also need to land on planets to harvest certain elements, which in turn allow you to use synthesis crafting (refill ammo, repair srv, etc). Synthesis isn't really that useful unless you are a long range explorer.

Sort of. No. This is not an MMO. This is a single player always online game with some forced p2p gameplay.
>>

There are clans, but no, your average Joe cannot own or control a space station. There is something called powerplay, which allows you to destroy your enemies and expand territory. At the moment, it's not worth it if you're a new player.

I stopped playing ED before release of Horizons, I played it for 35h or so. I realized that it was boring and pointless.

Now I bought Thrustmaster 16k for other sims and started to play ED with all recent updates...It's pretty nice as proper joystick makes huge difference how the game feels even if it's really arcadey and all.

But still, the game is still damn boring. I'm doing something wrong, can you give some pointers? I erased my old save and started to build my cash reserve from scratch. I've been doing mostly space running service as a digital delivery boy, avoiding any combat because I don't have any proper equipment yet.

How do you find fun in ED?

What is the best way to reduce aliasing? I'm using ReShade to inject SMAA but that doesn't do much.

On the one hand I want them to scrap it forever because it's a horrible design and they'd have to rebuilt it entirely due to it being 2,5 years old and fanmade, but then again, you're right and people did pay money for it. It's kind of in a bad spot really. People would complain in any case, but removing it and giving people store credits or replacing it with another ship would be a dick move.

Usually I let the zone stew for a little bit, pick off smaller targets round the edges. Vulture is probably on the weaker end to be fighting in high activity conflict zones.

Sometimes the enemy can simply have the upper hand. You can't switch sides?
>>
>>169531089

>Vulture is probably on the weaker end to be fighting in high activity conflict zones.

Why do you feed him lies? Even in an unengineered Vulture, you can plow the NPCs in CZs. The trick is to skim the edges and gank enemies in Cobras and other small ships. Once you kill an enemy that your allies are ganking, they'll switch to their nearest hostile target, which will almost always end up being the same ship. Keep doing this a few times and you'll have an entire squadron of friendlies flying together always targeting the same enemies and melting shit in seconds.

Never fight FAS, FGS, or FDS by yourself. They will spin in place and hammer you with rails over and over and they have a crazy hulltank. I only engage Federal ships if they have <50% hull and are already being attacked. Corvettes are surprisingly easy to kill though.
>>
>>169531431

At the end of the day, a vulture has only two C3s. Compare that with my Anaconda (C4, C3 C3 C3, C2 C2, C1 C1 + SLF) it really does a pathetic amount of dps. Contributing damage over time helps change the tide of the battle, and allows you to farm spawns.

Vulture's DPS isn't even that bad, I can knock shit down without a problem and my shields never even go down.

My favorite ships to take to a CZ are FGS, Vulture, and FDS, in that order.

>I need to see a lot more of this game before I would consider it. The custom scripting sounds cool, but they aren't clear what you can do with it.
It's not even worth reading their hype until it's released, anything could happen between now and then.

Full LUA scripting cannot be allowed in a multiplayer game, there are too many abuses. At best, a limited subset of LUA could be allowed on some modules. It would still make some pretty cool things possible as well as being arguably necessary given that all in-game content is supposed to be player generated.

Empyrion is quite cool but it's pretty limited in what you can build in it, Space Engineers has way more scope for building but this causes all sorts of hilarious bugs in multiplayer which was the reason I don't play it anymore. I just got sick of logging back in and having to repair and rebuild shit because my ships exploded because they were using landing gear on a station or because they had pistons or rotors or something. Every week was some new problem that broke half my stuff.

Custom scripting and complex modules on ships leads to this kind of trouble, even though they're really cool to have. These aren't trivial things to code.

Looks more like a cross between Eve and Space Engineers. Which honestly would be pretty cool but I'm over MMOs. Eve sucked too much of my life as it was.

People pay for rented Minecraft servers basically for the same purpose, this is just a variation on that theme. I like their single-shard concept, it worked very well for Eve.
>>
>>169570929
>it worked very well for Eve.

It only worked for eve because of severe time dilation.
>>
>>169571192
>It only worked for eve because of severe time dilation.
I can't work out what you're trying to say.

In Eve, the single-shard worked because it enabled a market in the safe Empire space fueled by carebears and let warfare-oriented players do what the fuck they wanted in 0.0. Low sec provided a comfy middle-ground for braver carebears and pirates to tussle. Griefing was legal but had in-game penalties and barriers in the carebear zones.

I'm not sure what you mean by time-dilation or how it is relevant.
>>
>>169571356
None of that is a benefit of single shard servers.
>>
>>169571461
Yes it is.
>>
>>169571485
Some carebear piddling around in an area and not interacting with someone in 0.0 is not a benefit of single shard.

It doesn't matter if its single shard or multiple if they never fucking interact unless they're on top of each other.
>>
>>169571356
>I'm not sure what you mean by time-dilation or how it is relevant.

Time Dilation is the only way EVE can have those huge battles that you read about.
>>
>>169571567
>It doesn't matter if its single shard or multiple if they never fucking interact unless they're on top of each other.
They interact via the market, you need the carebears in a player-driven economy. Also, carebears can be actively fucked with in Eve, provided you're willing to dodge the in-game consequences. They don't interact because they want to, if you actually want to, you can go find them and they can't stop you by logging in to a different instance. Eve is all about not being able to avoid interaction except by running away and there is a fuckload of gameplay about stopping people doing that.

Compare this to ED where a carebear is a) selling to NPCs and b) playing solo
ED is the complete opposite of single-shard, player interaction is entirely voluntary and anyone that wants to avoid others can do so very easily.

>>169571713
>Time Dilation is the only way EVE can have those huge battles that you read about.
Oh right, that thing. That's just some fluff to cover up a hardware issue basically. Their big battles overload servers so they need to lag newcomers to slow down people joining the battle and also because the battle-system is getting special treatment . It's not actually breaking single-shard (unless stuff has changed since I last played) because it's not like you can go to that system and not be part of the battle.

Something like that would have to be invented for Dual Universe too but not until the game gets big enough to have shitloads of stuff going on in a small space. LUA scripting etc will probably fuck up servers though so I bet they hit that problem at lower player counts than Eve did.
>>
>>169573060
>They interact via the market,

> Also, carebears can be actively fucked with in Eve, provided you're willing to dodge the in-game consequences.

at which point they could be put into the same shard. Before then its irrelevant if they are or not.

I'm sorry, different anon, but when the market prices are run by players in carebear space and the entire game is built around creating weapons/ammunition/ships/parts by these items then yea, it's pretty relevant.

If you didn't play EVE just say so, don't keep spouting shit though.

None of which means shit if those carebears are operating in highsec.

People PvPing in 0.0 and some fucker mining ores in the safest hugbox system possible being in the same shard IS irrelevant.

Getting put into the same shard when they're in the same space is relevant, but luckily that doesn't mean the whole universe has to be the same shard.

What this has to do with Time Dilation is that they can only make the latter scenario possible with TD, making it totally unacceptable for first person
>>
>>169574883
>none of which means shit if people are operating in high sec

>sending contracts across different shards

>>
>>169575010
So you're just straight illiterate then.

I said that if you're in the same area being put into the same shard IS relevant, try reading next time.

Point is that you don't have to be the same shard as someone in highsec, which was the original discussion anyway. For all it matters every system could be its own shard.
>>
>>169575105
Yes, and then connecting in and out of different shards would be a fucking pain in the fucking ass network wise and someone could purposely attack specific shard ips.

>>
>>169575160
>Yes, and then connecting in and out of different shards would be a fucking pain in the fucking ass network wise

welcome to that extremely convenient inter-system jump that hangs half the time. LOADS of games have shard switching. This isn't new.

>Congrats, you fucked the game.

Fucked anyway
>>
>>169574883
>Getting put into the same shard when they're in the same space is relevant, but luckily that doesn't mean the whole universe has to be the same shard.
You seem to be confused about what a shard is and you clearly don't understand Eve very well.

Eve is single shard because you cannot be in the same space as another player and prevent them interacting with you. You can block them on chat and stay in safe space but they can still bump the shit out of your mining barge if they want and you can't stop them except by arming up and fucking them back. If they want to suicide-gank your hauler/miner then they can, they just have to accept the costs of doing so.

Different systems are not different shards except in the loosest possible sense. In games with different shards, there is zero interaction across the shards and moving from one to the other involves filing support requests or something, often it's just not possible.

In Eve, you can only entirely skip the possibility of being attacked by someone by never leaving the station. Which is fine for a market alt in Jita but they can still be fucked with economically and people do engage in that kind of warfare, not to mention tracking and disrupting their production networks.

>>169574940
>Except many people from 0.0 pay to have their goods moved to Jita. So yes, Directly involved with the hugbox fags.
Exactly anon. The player economy requires interaction between highsec carebears and 0.0 alliances and it's mostly done by jump freighters in Jita.

Corp ops for freighter escort were always a fun thing back in the day, we'd go in and lock down a system for the minute or two it took to jump a freighter in and dock it before going ahead to secure the next system, all the way to our high-sec logistics point.

Not trying to defend Voyager Direct, I think you should be able to melt that stuff too. How much do you have tied up in UEC? It might be better in the long run, but I know a bunch of people who want to put that money in ships instead.
>>
>>169585430
Dunno why you're bringing up VD, I meant ships and such. There are some I'd probably get rid of if I could, but due to melting, rebuying and various upgrade shenanigans everything has store credits in it and can't be gifted.
>>
>>169586218
I have 4 ships, but only the game package one can't be gifted. I'm pretty sure I bought all of them with store credit after melting and changing around a bit. Are you sure every ship is locked out from gifting?
>>
>>169586416
Yeah. They only implemented that limitation (stuff can only be gifted once, can't be gifted if it contains store credits) sometime in 2014, so if your ships are older than that they can still be gifted afaik.

It looks to have less game than Empyrion and less building than...any of them?
>>
>>169588535

No idea because I really haven't played many of them other than Space Engineers and some other one I can't remember. I never was a fan of block building space games but this one actually hooked me in. It has a charm to it, the music is great and graphics are simple but cool too. Has a lot of missing features though, and some things just don't work right, for example, if you make a trade station, it won't do shit unless you are in its sector at all times. Everything outside of your sector is frozen forever until you come back, pirates could be attacking your sector when you first start the game, you could jump out and play through the game and build a fuckhuge battleship, and come back to those same pirates still in your starter system. Combat is very fun too, tearing ships to pieces is great fun.

The one thing I will say it doesn't have that the others do is muh space legs but seriously, fuck space legs. I'm so sick of space games trying to shove walking into their games and fucking it all up completely.

Give Empyrion a go.
It does space legs well.

It's building is a bit casual compared to Space Engineers (isn't everything?). It has good gameplay too.
Only some of its NPC ships are blocks though, most are models that change into a dead ship model when killed. Your own ships are all blocks.
>>
>>169589732

It's on my to do list. With my first and second rounds of 17D, I've bought every ship I could want except for the Cutter and Corvette. Corvette is first since I'm closer to rank with it and then Quince to grind out Empire rank.
>>
>>169589737

I'll take a look at it once The Vision lets go of its grip on me, thanks anon. I'm not really concerned about being more casual than SE, I really didn't enjoy it when I played it but maybe it's because back then I had a toaster that couldn't run it very well. Maybe now that I have a decent rig I should try it again.

I think it's pretty self-explanatory. Just a way to keep people together so they can talk to each other at all times in a shared chat, and for minor RP purposes like giving yourselves a name and things like that. Basic features that any MMO has, why do I need to explain this? The only way to find groups of people to play with is to use the Elite forums to find a group, and then using 3rd party shit to keep in contact with them. Everything is out-of-game and it's shit that it's this way instead of all being integrated into the game.

SE takes a powerful rig now but it was much lower resources when it first came out.
The casual building in Empyrion is kind of a selling point I guess, I got frustrated with not being able to build certain things that are easy in SE (stuff like fighter elevators for hangers and folding bay doors)

>>169592538
>What features would you expect out of a group system?
Even shit games are better with other people, a group system would let you more easily find people to play with. It's madness not to include it because social contacts keep people in games even after they're bored with/hate them. It lets people laugh at the flaws instead of bitch about them on forums.

Unless there's some higher level strategy that I can't understand, it seems like very poor business not to make some social group a priority.

I don't mean to sound edgy, but it's the same mental gymnastics as any religion, these people are trying to escape real life into this potential "forever game" that fdev has not outright promised, but implied enough to inspire a minimum level of faith that because they and the devs have the same "vision" or whatever. This snowballs into blind evangelist love to the point where any statement fdev shits out is seen as solid gold to them.

the projectile speed of the PA lends itself to closer range use as things have less time to dodge. the shots are extremely slow thought they deal absolute damage in part.

some things are simply going to dodge if you're far enough away

this can be partially circumvented using long range PAs from mr. alioth which puts the shot profile more in line with an mcannon

they're not easy weapons to use

No really, I give a good guide here. Make sure you're in deep space so you can practice the timings (5th step). Basically you trick the game into thinking you can fly flight assist off in supercruise (which used to be allowed before interdictions). Hear me out, it sounds funny but I promise it 100% works.

1st. Get yourself in your own instance, once you've done the trick once you won't need to do it again until you next rebuy.
2nd. make sure you're in open or private group, solo is on a different server and it won't carry over.
3rd. Go to function panel and make sure you familiarise yourself with where 'assist off' and 'self destruct' are. Make sure you are in FA-on.
4th. Now here comes the trick, you need to click self destruct (not a joke), go to assist off (don't press z, hit the button in the function panel) turn it on, then quickly go back to cancel the self destruct before you take heat damage.
5th. This bit you need to practice, basically you need to turn flight assist on AS you are about to go into super cruise. Very quickly, if you don't manage it you need to do all the steps over again so make sure you practice this.

FA-off should stay in supercruise which means you can turn around whilst maintaining your flight vector which is very useful when you are travelling to a far away station in open. Orientate yourself towards the station, hit reverse and you can speed up. Slow down (you can see distance in the lower left of the screen) when you get close, when you fly past target speed up again so you can reach destination. The best bit about this is that it appears clientside so people can't see that you're going backwards. You don't need to do the trick again until your ship hits a rebuy or you go into solo mode (private is okay).
