You wont stance dance during the actual fight outside movement heavy bits or a 2nd opener after boss jump kinda deal. The toggle is to make you clip less while getting up the last buff and potion up so if you're not going to be using potions you can just not toggle if you want.

I also recommend trying out the WM off opener if the double empyreal one isn't clicking/you don't like it.

Yeah, way defense works is you need 10 to 56 points per 1% damage reduction (additive). The required defense becomes higher as you level up. So at sastasha you're looking at like 23defense needed, and you'd think since protect gives like 30 to the tank or some shit it's matter, but when everything deals like 60damage you'd need 2 or 3% for damage reduction to apply due to round off.
There's a bunch of really dumb math trivia in this game.

TP is a shit resource that isn't managed because you have no choices in your rotation, ever. MP is at least used creatively. Summoners, healers and tanks have a choice in what to cast, while black mage uses it totally differently. There's nothing like that for TP.
