We have battle map creating tools now. Only land battles and only for custom/custom mp games. Siege battles may be a possibility in the future but they're practically covering their ears and screeching at any mention of using modded maps to improve the campaign.

Why can't I demand a neutral faction remove their hero/lord from my land, or at least stopped fucking things up / raiding?
Why can't I cede/demand a region?
Why can't I ask an ally attack a faction I'm currently at peace with myself?
Why can't I demand two factions make peace with each other?
Why can't I provoke another faction into breaking agreements or declaring war without violating their borders or raiding, just by pure diplomacy?
Why can't I give/demand tithe per turn for some turns, as alternative to flat gifts?
Why all politics are open to other factions? Can't one make a secret agreement?
Why is there so few ruler features? Say what you will about Knights of Honour, despite primitive political system it had rather variegated ruler personalities.
Why is there a fucking penalty on being large? I understand the technical reason, but it's such a lazy and crappy implementation... Preventing snowballing must be more elegant.

I dunno how I managed it, but last Legendary Empire campaign got destroyed by an ancient alliance of Mousillon/Wood Elves/Greenskins/Angrund/Marienburg to converge on my ass.
Those fuckers all had either military or defensive alliances and all hated me, despite me never attacking any of them besides Greenskins and Beastmen.

I swear if I managed to hold out a bit longer, I might have brought peace to the Old World based on how everyone senselessly despised me

Yes. Make defensive allies with both Dawi factions near you and with as much of Bretonnia as possible. If they go to war with you they will have to go through your allies first. They will most likely obliterate them all but atleast you'll have time to prepare for them

Three full stacks. Most of the land to the north and around me conquered. Karl and a general is up north fighting the Skaeling and The Chaos and I feel unstoppable, already number 1 faction, army in the south with that patriarch guy and beast wizard(amber?). Franz nearly has his griffin.

The base system for AoE spells is basically the same as for artillery since Napoopan. Unit mass influencing how much damage fire does for example is completely fucked. Not to mention that hit detection is made for artillery, and is extremely hit and miss with the virtual projectiles in some spells. Just look at it all in the Assembly Kit to see how fucked it is.

Anyone else feels like Realm Divide in Shogun 2 is a bad mechanic? I don't mean from a difficulty POV, since it fixes the endgame rollstomp that happens when you get too big, I mean in the sense of how it feels like a big "fuck you" to the player that you can't use to your advantage as well, basically making it somewhat "unfair", so to speak.

Like, let's say that you wait until someone gets big enough and the Shogun declares that force too dangerous and that they should be destroyed. That could be a very reasonable strategy if you were, for example, Shimazu and another clan from the east (Date/Oda/Takeda) claims superiority, so everyone on the center/west besides you starts a coalition against him, since that will give you an opening you can exploit and use your forces to claim most of the west while they're busy striking against the common threat on the east.

I say this because I'm currently on a campaign facing this, and to be honest, is less difficult and more annoying than anything that EVERYONE wants a piece of the cake when they can't even handle a single province and throw full stacks over and over again. Nobunaga's Ambition (Iron triangle in this case) had a very similar idea behind this, but only those close to your forces or with hostile diplomatic relationships declared war when a coalition was formed (In that playthrough I controlled 2/6 of the map, Takeda another 1/6 and the rest of the clans made up the other 3/6) allies didn't stab you in the back at the first sight of trouble (my ally was Takeda), etc.

The way it feels now is kind of cheap and lazy, which is a shame, because the entire game had been amazing up until this point, where on top of the bullshit mechanics that most Total War have on higher difficulties (like I said, full stacks for 1 province clans) it really showed the utter lack of troop variety (like, 8/10 play exactly the same over and over).

What do you guys thought about this when you first encountered it?

The current emperor of Cathay is descended from dragons or empowered by them or something

Cathay has a magically reinforced Grand Bastion (Great Wall) on their northern border keeping out the Hung to the Northeast, Kurgan to the Northwest and the Hobgoblins all around.

The steppe north of Cathay is full of fighting between various tribes of Hung and Kurgan human worshippers of Khorne mostly and the hordes ruled by the Hobgoblin Khans

Ogres used to live near Cathay and eat them but then the Great Maw came from space and ate their homeland so they moved west. Presumably Ogres still raid them and Ind for delicious humans though.

A lost bloodline of vampires exists in Cathay, if they were fleshed out they'd probably be like the Jiang-shi.

Cathay has special Astromancers who use star power, they are not Celestial mages but something different. Presumably Astral Lore would have been a thing exclusive to Cathay just like Ice Lore would have been exclusive to Kislev had either of those factions been added.

For 700 gold I have an infantry unit that kills everything short of Chaos Warriors GW and chosen. Even then it will perform well enough that the cav will gut whats left anyway.

This is stupid in SP and MP. Bretonnia will edge out empire infantry and have better cav and flying squad etc. Bretonnia having a reliable infantry core in itself is a really bad idea.

The hitch is that you need to know the fuck out of the maps you fight on and basically never leave the few maps in the woods.

Isolate the avenues of attack, layer your archers to cover those avenues, use mounted archers to steer the enemy in that diretion, and use throw away melee like dryads or eternal guard to pin them down.

This is definitely possible on The Oak of Ages Map, it just takes prep and a small degree of micromanaging.

It's strong vs a single combatant, weak vs a single unit.

Direct damage spells like bjuna and transmutation deal damage ticks to a certain number of guys in the unit out hits. Final transmutation hits one guy in each unit each tick, for a shit load of damage.

If you can drop it on a couple single guy units at once, it's effective damage is ridiculous.

transmutation of lead, final transmutation, and hounds were already fantastic, but now they've doubled plague of rust and glittering robe. You can literally reduce most lords to about 20 armor for 45 seconds, battles only last for 5 minutes at most. glittering robe upgraded is aoe so you can now effectively make an entire wing of your army twice as resilient.

With good ol' AI spam and mechanics cheesing you will be drowned in infantry slightly less than Greatswords backed by every flavor of knight needed to kill something. Gave the faction so many damn tools there are no glaring weaknesses to them anymore outside no monsters or AP missile infantry.

Giving them the knights with every flavor imaginable is alright but to give them a good infantry core as well is a really bad idea. Not only balance but now what differentiates Brets from Empire. Not that much anymore besides Bretonnians will wreck you in the air and cav.

Just use dryads to grab and hold the enemy and shred them with wardancers and archers. If you really want easy mode, you can have some treekin too. Bring some hawkriders and an eagle too, eagle kind of sucks but you should learn why they suck.

Remember that wood elves arent the "archer faction" like lord of the rings elves. They are savages that utilize horrible daemon trees. They'd scalp you and hang your corpse from a tree by your intestines just for a prank.

I'm actually glad the AI spawn throw away armies for you to fight. My biggest gripe about warhammer is that you spend most of your time just sitting there waiting. All my lords had the master burgmeister trait. Even when enemy factions "invade" you the AI literally calculates your movement range and sits just beyond it in raiding stance. Then if you follow them, they'll hide in their city. So you only get one or two seige battles per faction on the map so Your starting lord sits at level 15 and the rest of your lords are stuck at level 2.
