You don't use it up. You geat a piece of gear that your character can wear and it adds that 'appearance' to your collection.

From then on you can go to a transmogrifier and make it so the current gear youre wearing looks like the one who's appearance you collected. If I go to the firelands and get the drops for my class I can then go straight to the transmogrifier and make whatever im wearing look like the firelands stuff. Once i've done that one time I can sell or delete the firelands stuff and still keep the appearance to use in future.

-you unlock items once you equip a BoE item
-you unlock BoP as soon as you pick them up
-you lose your unlock if you trade instance drops withing the time limit or sell an item with a time limit refund
-unlock are account wide, so for example if you leveled a warrior to level 100 and start a paladin later you can use the appearances unlocked by your warrior (assuming it wasn't a warrior-only item)

I never remember to enchant the cloak, but those rings are almost new - I ain't spending like 5k to enchant something I'll replace. Plus that shit's minmaxing and the gladiator trinkets is a raw 5% more dps done in my burst phase where it matters the most, and the other ine I have is the EN one where you shit on the floor and it deals miniscule damage and you get some leech.
