Ok, I haven't played sw4 yet and I don't plan to. Call me an autist but I can't stand the dialogue box in the middle of the screen. So I'll go for II.

Besides being pretty much the same game with a single new character for full price, are there any "real" problems with it? I don't care if it has the same stages as the original as I have never played it.

For DW9 I would have multiple branches all based on different conditions and each splitting off to a vastly different route than the canon. The major problem I had with the Hypotheticals in 8 were that they all felt like the devs were playing it safe and not really going into the 'what happens if' potential. It was all "you win instead of lose at this battle and you win all the battles from there"
Hypotheticals should be more wild to be really interesting and different from historical.
What if Taishi Ci joined Liu Bei after assisting him?
What if Cao Cao died early and the survival of Wei from then on falls to his remaining relatives like Xiahou Yuan and Dun?
What if Guan Yu had no choice but to remain with Wei after learning Liu Bei was killed in Guan Du?
What if Sun Quan died instead of Ce?
What if one of the kingdoms suffered a setback and never truly took off?
What if 'x' joined 'y'

If DW9 consists of basically a whole bunch of hypotheticals turned up to 11 then that would already get me hyped.

Only touched Kessen III. The gameplay is similar to Bladestorm (the other way around actually), it's fun, but got repetitive fast. The main selling point of it though is it's story telling of the life of Nobunaga. It has imo the best Koei's story telling out of any game.

So who is the "Enemy Garrison Commander" and what is the "Time Limit"?

I'm having trouble figured out what either of these things actually are in this mission. Is this another case or poor translation and they are called different things at different points in the game?

PROTIP: Once you finish the railroaded tutorial, go to settings and change to highest graphical quality and full HD and it actually makes the game run better as well as look like a real DW game.

Those things are pretty much the missions the stages throw at you. If you follow the flow, you should be able to get them. So after you destroy the catapults, that commander will probably be on the map and you can search for him with the army info.

Musou is kinda about the grind. The long-term play of these games is going to involve heavily this sort of farming 99 times out of 100. SW4-II and OPPW3 give you less to fiddle with but you're still grinding up dozens of chars.

You should see WO3U where you basically build every weapon up the same two or three ways.

THAT said, if you just keep the difficulty on normal, you don't have to worry about optimization or crafting that perfect grindblade at all, just equip the highest star weapon you can for your char and level up as that character proceeds.

The historical campaigns almost all have unsatisfactory endings because Jin is about the only faction that really wins. The alt-history endings are a bit more satisfying.

The problem with Wei campaign's is that they really get the short end of the stick in terms of length, like shit; in DW8 Wei's story ends at fan castle and that's just absurd. It could at the very least go up to Cao Pi's reign. Wu's story mode in DW8 even teases battles against Cao Pi but they just don't shit with it.

Part of it is I think Wei started earlier. In DW4 when we had massive story campaigns we could hit all the beats but now since everyone has to have the same length or some gay shit we lose out for sticking Wei with Yellow Turban.

From what I've gleaned, the starter hero from the selection of 6 is the same 6 every time. The first true chance at a 5* unit is doing the free single gold scroll pull after you finish the tutorial. Looking at the whales at the top of the arena currently, I haven't seen any unit above 5* which makes me think the rates are either obscenely low for a 6* or 5* is the current gacha max.

With the way upgrades work in this game, you look to be saving net time rolling for a 5* instead of settling for a 3* or even a 4* and upgrading. Game seems to want to discourage rerolls with login bonuses time gating rewards and minimal gacha currency from early mission rewards, so if you want to dive into reroll hell then it looks like you may as well do the free single gold scroll then delete data and run the tutorial again. You can skip the first stage against Lu Bu entirely to save some time. I'm going to sleep now, I'll start fucking around in emulators/root to look into speeding up the process tomorrow.

what do you guys know about Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada? Apparently it's coming to PC. I'm fairly turned off because I never got the Sanada hype (Though his last hurrah in Nobunaga's Ambition Ascension was pretty cool to witness, but it's helped by the fact that he looks like a grizzled veteran in that) and a story that's just pure Sanada all the time doesn't sound appealing.

But maybe it's secretly kickass. Let me know.

Noob question: How do musou games measure your performance? Is it "do all the tasks of the stage as fast as possible", "kill everything as fast as possible", "just kill everything and don't give a shit about time" or something else entirely?

I'm asking this because I see Berserk makes the enemies spongier in higher difficulties, which implies that one needs to make the time he takes to kill shit as small as possible.

I'm currently playing it, 23 hours so far and is now at Siege of Odawara. The gameplay is just like SW4 so you won't find anything groundbreaking with this installment. The writing though, is a lot tighter than SW4, and it's pretty cool to see Yukimura's fater, Masayuki, grows from an aspiring officer if somewhat crooked to a cynical two-faced old man. My problem with the story so far is that the game takes a fucking halt after Yukimura arrives at Osaka so they can ship Yukimura with Chacha. Waifuism was a mistake.

People playing Unleashed, make sure you go to your inventory periodically and check out the last tab, all the reward chests you get from login/mission rewards etc. get sent there and you have to manually open them to get your free officers/gear. Campaign episodes 5 and 6 give you a free random 4* officer for getting all 30 stars on them, which is well worth working towards considering how much it takes to upgrade a 3* to a 4*.

There's this trend of adding surprise characters in the last few years in order to be unique, when all it does is piss people off. Being predictable isn't a bad thing, just give the people what they expect. I didn't like HW until the legends pack came in and added Skull Kid, who should have been in the Majora's pack. Whats a good level to switch to Berserk difficulty anyway? I'm nearing 40 I think but haven't tried. Only been using Guts in story mode. Or is it basically Nightmare/Chaos where I need to be decked out in good gear? That's what it felt like the one time I tried it.
Hard has been too easy even since level 1, but I tried Berserk at level 20 or so and got my ass handed to me.

Where can you download CAWs for DW8E? As in the savefile that you put in the directory so that you can load them. I found a chink site that has a bunch but they're not compatible with the ENG version of the game.

The six coins are used in battle to allow you to have more advantage in some situation. Like, the enemy activate an ambush, you then can choose to activate a coin or not, if you do, you lose one coin and go all "I know you like to ambush, so I set up in an ambush first so I can ambush you while you ambush", if you don't, then your allies got surprised and you have to drag your ass to save them. Masayuki has young and old models, but the move sets are the same the animation at the end of the Musou attack. He's normal type and is... pretty average, nothing really special.
Sasuke doesn't have age variation. He's hyper type and his moveset kinda sucks imo, as he jumps around too much while attacking. His interaction with Kunoichi and Yukimura is pretty fun though.
Chacha has age variation, loli and young. Loli Chacha isn't playable though. Out of the 3 new characters, I like her moveset the most as it has beamspam and stuff and feels like a fucking magical girl.
The game starts at Kawanakajima, when Yukimura isn't born yet. You follow Masayuki until the Takeda is destroyed, which is about 7 chapters in, you then get young Yukimura and he becomes the protagonist in his father place. You can choose other characters to play as too, but the Takeda roster isn't that impressive so you probably just stuck with Masayuki most of the time. Yukimura' part is better as the Toyotomi has plenty of officers to choose from.

Aside from his questionable military prowess, Cao Pi was an extremely talented man with a variety of gifts. He was an extraordinarily talented scholar, a skilled warrior, and a damn fine administrator. While he was certainly a bit harsh in dealing with subordinates who got out of line, he is certainly not the heartless monster he is often depicted as being. He was a very capable man who worked tirelessly to perfect every skill in his arsenal.

Got lu meng 3star for my first draw (wanted wang yi) but I don't feel like rerolling since the game doesn't even give a free 10pull at the start. How do you think DW9 will turn out?

It's meant to be open world but I don't think that means we'll have a vast open world with dynamic battles taking place here there and everywhere. Kind of like that Skyrim mod.

I think it'll be like larger scale Way of the Samurai, and you speak to certain NPCs and it triggers a typical DW battle in that region's battlefield, in a separate zone/instance, whatever you want to call it.

It makes me excited about a potential Pirate Warriors 4 since One Piece would be great in a big adventurous open world that you explore with you nakama.

Well, the obvious one woud be to change Xu Chu. It's not that I hate the down's syndrome idiot strongman type of character as much as I just don't think it works when matched up with his feats. I didn't get a good idea of his personality from the novels, but that wasn't it. There's no way you could be intimidated when he shows up.

The other one that always bothered me was Lu Bu, who is genuinely an interesting character. Giving him a meathead personality is not necessarily bad, although I'm a fan of the Ravages version. There's stuff like how he was so hilariously friendly with Liu Bei that his brothers wanted to kill him. There's just a ton of stuff they could do with him.

Wei Yan is just so far away from anything that I don't think there's a way to improve him.

I kind of thought that the problem with Ravages was that everyone ends up looking a little TOO good. Dong Zhuo was probably never treated as well in anything I've ever seen. Even the guys that were just there to get beat up had their moments. But it seemed to get out of control at times. I would hope there would be some kind of middle ground between brooding dick DW Lu Bu and Ravages Genius Strategist Lu Bu.

I wanted Li Ru for a long time in DW, but I'm kind of afraid of what they'd do with him now. ROTK and DW Blast have both had kind of uninspired versions of him.

Gao Shun was mentioned before too, which would be a good idea just because Lu Bu needs more playable generals.
