I am definitely not trying to shill /mcg/ into becoming entirely engineering and trains focused.
But as an actual point, every "vanilla" feature has been done by mods before, and usually better, on previous versions.
>The technically inpressive bit of the shulkers (entity collision)

It'd be one thing if he'd had said the updates to the vanilla codebase and forge can make certain things easier on modders, but he didn't.
>>
>>169032687
Anon I specifically explained why those features are better because they're in vanilla, even if they're executed worse

A boring cosmetic rock type added by a mod is a modded cosmetic rock

More stuff like that means more options for modders, which means less mod recipes that use ender pearls
And it doesn't seem like they're trying to do anything but keep themselves afloat, but that doesn't mean modders can't take advantage of it anyway

I have three magic mods in this custom-made modpack: Thaumcraft, Witchery and Botania. Botania is mostly there for its perks, mainly mass production of items and the baubles it adds, but I primarily use Thaumcraft and Witchery more.

There's also Railcraft here because there can't be the Wild West without trains, and Flaxbeard's Steam Power for the aesthetics (guns and brass piping).

Also these fucking captchas are getting annoying
Click all the matching things, oh btw they vanish then painfully slowly pop new ones up that you have to also click, which some times happens several times in a row.
Or after your first problem they make you solve a second one.
Or the ones that are a single cropped picture and you have to pretty much select every box to highlight the subject.
Or the ones where you have to select the shops for the billionth time.
Or how about the captchas that expire quickly now, like I solved one as I was typing this post and it already had expired so i had to solve another set just to post this.

It's kind of hard to explain, but basically, you attach these things to entities, items, or whatever else is supported, and you can do more advanced behavior with them. A prime example would be all those mods that edit the player, like Cyberware or the Level Up! mod.

It'll be a good fit for you. The tech mods are totally optional, and everything in TFC has been made easier. The only things that have been made more difficult,
>The risk of dying from starvation or thirst has been brought back, but to compensate, thirst and hunger decrease far more slowly than they did before
>Mobs can tear down a lot of player-made materials and have special attacks now, making bases less safe than before. To compensate, players can add NPC guards to their bases http://www.minecraftmods.com/utility-mobs
And the early game is much less tedious to deal with now. I'm working on writing up a guide that goes over all the new ways you can get copper on this serb but, in the meantime, you can read all about them in the #news channel of TFOR's discord

>>169051657
I wasn't able to find anything on the wiki or download page about damage being configurable. It also adds new NPCs whose health, damage, and drops won't scale well with TFC, it overhauls the damage system and the way armor works which will also conflict badly with TFC, and changes mob spawning so that it's affected by what biome you're in and how far from spawn you are, which will likely also cause glitches or even crashes due to TFC changing all of that. But if you know of any other gun mods that don't overhaul the game and seem to have configurable damage values, I'll take a look at them too

Chisel for 1.7 and 1.8+ have a different team of maintainers; specifically, 1.7 had Cricket as a lead maintainer and 1.8+ has tterrag. There was a huge internal conflict which effectively made the entirety of the Chisel team stop working with Cricket. Before you ask, Cricket was working on a 1.8 version of Chisel as well, so no, it's not because he cares about 1.7 in any particular way.

I'm more thinking about the amount of mods - Sky Factory 3 is, as far as I know, one of the biggest modpacks around. Besides, main menu memory usage does not change depending on how crowded the world is, and a pack with a large amount of mods is a good place to test RAM usage of a version. I'm trying to get to memory usage levels similar to, if not better than, 1.7.10, and I feel running Sky Factory 3 with 1.8GB of heap is getting fairly close to that place.

Almost every modpack """developed""" you see publicised on FTB or Technic is just a handful of Modtweaker rules. SOME will have a premade map that's far lesser in quality than any decent CTM, but most are just kitchen sink packs with a lame "theme" forced into everything.

You never see modpacks with stuff in it that says "Oh wow yeah this required some effort and passion." Nothing with unique pregen structures, nothing with unique biome weight changes, nothing with fun dimension hopping, nothing nothing nothing.

Am I wrong for being disgusted in modpack makers for not putting in the same effort CTM makers did 5 years ago? It's shameful.

Does Crash Landing have an end to it?

I've gotten pretty far, up to reactors and such but the quests just seems to kind of teeter off at a point and not go anywhere anymore. Doesn't seem to have an actual objective like Blightfall did. Vague enviromine survival elements ontop of what's mostly an ex niliho map, and you have to tediously explore for endgame components or sift them from dust to make your toys, and that's it, that's Crash Landing. Figured there would had been like a rescue shuttle you had to make or something, you're just stuck on a shit planet the entire game. There are a couple more quests to do of course but it just seems pointless. Why would anyone want to play an even slower and manual version of cookie clicker, where you have to take breaks to craft Pam's food and your water backpacks for the 1000th time. They put some planning into the pack, some elements are nice but a lot of it just seems like it was an unfinished pack more Enviromine support would had been nice to see, and a real point to the end game.

Arbitrary key-value [BlockPos->???] mapping, hopefully finally removing the 16 metadata limitation, and instead of constantly ticking every single tile entity you get the ability to schedule ticks to run in the future (for example, a furnace could tick only once per smelting operation, not 1200 times).

From what I understand, best-case it means "tile entities lose tickability and become just data storage", worst-case it means "you have to access everything as NBT tags". I did not receive any further details, so either is possible.

I guess I could do that, I see no problem with how it's working at the moment though
The input of items is actually very slow, as I only use one recycler to create scrap boxes, the image shown just shows extra items because i had extra scrapboxes being built up while I was building the system to handle the output.

If you knew anything about how this game works you'd know that you can't remove the metadata limitation. It's stored fore very single block. If you add more data then the memory needed goes up exponentially. You don't want tile entities for every single block that needs to store a little data though because they're slow to retrieve.

I know a lot about how the game works.

You already can - the game already doesn't store metadata in a linear format. In 1.9, Minecraft has added "block palettes" - depending on the amount of unique metadata combinations in a 16x16x16 chunk, Minecraft will store them as a (value -> block state) mapping per each such chunk. The amount of values is rounded up to the nearest power of two - 2^n, and each value is stored using only n bits in a BitSet-like structure:

- For chunks with 16 combinations of metadata or less, it will use a small array to map values to block states and a linear lookup to map them the other way around.
- For chunks with 17 to 256 combinations, it will additionally use a (integer -> object) hashmap to map them the other way around,
- For chunks with more than 256 combinations (up to 4096, as a 16x16x16 cannot possibly have more), it will simply use blockstate IDs as integers - in that case, 2^n is the rounded up amount of *all* blockstate IDs.

In other words, you're very clearly wrong - memory usage won't rise if you remove the metadata limitation since 1.9. What will happen is that the world format will break, and from what I know this is the only reason Mojang hasn't already done it as they promised for 1.8 first, then 1.9 - though, in their defense, most of the ground work *was* done during those two versions.
>>
>>169163451
Whatchya doin with all that vacuos senpai
>>
>>169135587
As for tile entities for every single block, is that currently the case? A key-value store would obviously only store values for keys which actually have values; if Mojang were to adopt tile entities more commonly, they would also presumably make them a little faster to retrieve - however, the implication that they're working on getting rid of the metadata limitation means that they probably want people to store *more* data in block states.
>>
What makes Chromaticraft overpowered with Thaumcraft?
>>
>>169164425
I don't give a fuck how you or the idiots at Mojang try to classify the data, the data will still always have the same meaning. Essentially half is the block ID and the other half is metadata. You sure as fuck aren't going to manage to get more than 4 bits out of it, there's just not enough data.

I'm not wrong, you're just being a pretentious know-it-all.

Chunks are already stored in memory as blockstate IDs with zero relation to the block ID/metadata split as of 1.9. Check the source code - it's easy.

ChC isn't "overpowered with TC", that's not what i said earlier - it's overpowered period, by design and idea. It does kinda "breaks" TC by virtues of offering extremely easy sources of shitton of aspects through trees, including hard to come by ones like Auram or Vitium. Or even Metallum. Yes, literally a tree farm into whatever metal you can through Metal Transmutation.
Practically everything in ChC has a copious amount of aspects
Several ways to deal with Taint including cheap to produce reversion lotus, Rainbow Forest biome having Ethereal Blooms growing all over the place there, and an item you can throw anywhere to cleanse territory and then pick back up
An amulet to, as i understand, completely remove Warp and associated effects
An extremely powerful wand core
An aspect Former machine to produce Essentia out of Lumens, which in lategame means you can hook any TC production line to them and just poop products out as Powercrystaled Pylons are not easy to drain out and Supercharged are practically infinite
Probably something else i forgot

What can be the causes for the game failing to close properly after I play it for a while? Basically I cannot go back to the main menu, while the console shows nothing after the unloading of dimensions. Daily reminder that Minecraft's dev team is more than 8x larger than Terraria's, but has no QA department or beta test team (while Terraria has both).

This is why Minecraft is hot garbage at every update, while Terraria adds tons of new features, is polished, and fun to play without mods or wikis.

If Mojang reads this board, they should be ashamed at taking Notch's concept and fucking ruining it like this.

Not exactly. Remember that Minecraft has three distinct codebases which do not share anything beyond game design (which is controlled by Jens). Effectively, the Java version is actively being worked on by I believe three, maybe four devs. Not sure about the Pocket/Win10 version. The console version is contracted out to 4J Studios.

Isn't foamfix a coremod, and single handily saving 1.10 from their own mistakes?
And they still think going with lex's coremod witch hunt is still a good idea?
They have the audacity to say others can't be responsible to do what's right when they don't even do that themselves?
If you have a problem with people doing something you don't like, just don't install the mod, It's that easy, what is their fucking problem. It's not like the forge fucks even play their own game anyways, it doesn't even effect them but their making the dictatorial decision that we can't make any decision on our own.
>>
>>169212590
Never underestimate the power of autism and mental illness combined. Lex is literally a violent powder keg who admits to violently attacking people in real life. He'll do anything, for any reason, even if it's just to make other people mad. He's horribly racist too, people found his racist comments from his old online name before, which he doesn't try to hide.

I really hate the whole scenario they ended up setting up. Lex shills coremods at the best thing ever because "YOU DON'T HAVE TO DEMAND HOOKS, GUYS," then Reika abused the shit out of them, and now he's acting like they're the worst thing ever, arguing that coremods "should only be used to test things that should be integrated into Forge." Like he legitimately thinks that we're all this fucking stupid to not realize the hypocrisy of that.

>W-WELL OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH FOAMFIX, OR ELSE IT WOULD BE IN FORGE!
Are they really fucking going this route? Really?
>>
>>169217965
No. Some modders don't like coremods because they're not held to accountability - they can change any code which is part of the game and it's really hard to track down which coremod changes what behaviour, especially if they're closed-source.

The thing, however, is that what should be targetted is the accountability (by, for instance, adding a defined interface for hooking the Minecraft engine - like Sponge's Mixins, which Fabric attempted to adopt and FML might try to adopt), not the coremods themselves.

Besides, even if coremods are removed, you can always tell the Launchwrapper to load your tweaker before Forge's - I believe this is what LiteLoader does

a considerable array of coremods would likely not exist if lex added hooks to forge like he's supposed to instead of calling people stupid and telling them things that aren't there actually are.

it's moot at this point, though. forge is dominant, people work hard to ensure it'll stay dominant, as long as it's dominant lex can play god and that's the end of it. shit's going to die out under his flab, and unless someone revives things afterwards, it can be considered a foregone conclusion that modding is fucked, and minecraft as well. dinnerbong's slipshod "efforts" to amaze the 12yr olds can only hold it up so long.

No, we don't need that, because we're not fucking socialist programmers.

Minecraft modding is supposed to be the Wild West. You can do anything, anyhow you want. To deprive a developer of that freedom is to stifle creativity, and take us down a road of generic mods that can't do anything outside of an incompetent dev team's capabilities.

Anyone who advocates for any kind of limitation to what you can do to Minecraft should be thrown out the airlock. This isn't your game to mod, it's our game. And I'll mod it however I want.

Yes, I made them so that they walk around the city, talk to the player in arab, some have actual conversations where you can ask them about the city and other sell goods in the market. Almost all of them return to their homes at night and at day go out to the streets. Its from an adventure map that its too complex and have been working on it every once in a while but its supposed to when done, let you explore freely the city and other small towns near it.
>Cultists
They are the guards and an important part of the lore.

More enemy types that are biome specific with their own structures and societies.

Like Orks with strongholds on the surface in the plains or spiders only in the forest biomes with big nests.

I think everything is too simple

Why doesn't the furnace collect ash or bits of metal?

Why can't things decay like wood rot if it's soaked in water too long?

Some mods have the torch burn out effect

Mobs are random and silly
Why don't they seem to come from a point of origin that slowly tracks to your base like a graveyard or spore sack or withered tree full of spider eggs?

I installed that zombie awareness fps destroyer mod and suddenly found at least thirty zombies pouring out of the unlit caves of my base, scared me shitless. But I loved it
>>
>>169251460
>Why don't they seem to come from a point of origin that slowly tracks to your base like a graveyard or spore sack or withered tree full of spider eggs?
Because that would take too much creativity and work to implement.
>>
>>169193328

>beds

Random things has blood moons that prevent you from sleeping through them. And I think there are some mods that nerfs beds by making sleep a need.

>The End

Hardcore Ender Expansion is a major overhaul for The End, though it tends to conflict with mods due to changes to the Endermen and Enderdragon.

>>
>>169251962
Yep, Managlass and Alfglass are completely borderless.
>>
>>169252398
Everything in Botania can be automated using blocks and items from Botania and Vanilla.

For example, a Pure Daisy may be automated using a Mana Spreader with Bore Lens to break the Livingwood, a Rannuncarpus to place logs, a Hopper and Open Crate to drop logs for the Rannuncarpus, repeaters to control the number of logs dropped, a Hopperhock to collect the dropped Livingwood, and a Hovering Hourglass to run the system on a one minute timer.

Sure. That road sounds great, yes, but it also means that mod compatibility in modpacks is no longer a given, and as pretty much everyone in the community has entertained this concept I believe both modders and modpack makers are willing to set aside a bit of their freedom for increased compatibility.

And modding is the wild west. Just do what Better Than Wolves did and distribute your mod as a patch on top of the base game. Literally nobody is stopping you. Literally nobody.

What's the fucking point? There's no actual cost to it since you can make enough for all the parts of a tool with just one log, and they just take up space in your work shop.

Just combine the Stencil Table's "make this stencil" interface with the Parts Table. Instead of putting a Stencil in, just click which part you want to make.
