I'm really worried that the squadmates in MEA are all gonna be boring. It was obviously a mixed bag in the trilogy, and I'm not as enamored with squadmates like Garrus and Tali as much as most players seem to be, but right now it seems like the only companion with any potential to be interesting is Jaal. This is probably going to trigger /pol/, but BioWare's attempts at inclusive writing always land like a ton of bricks there are probably many reasons for this. To start with they're bad video game writers, writers with any talent don't generally waste their time working on video games movies and TV are where the money is at. Even the Hallmark channel movies that we like to laugh at make a fuckton of money. You can count the people that would be good enough to make a living writing scripts in Hollywood on one hand; Chris Avellone, Druckmann, Hennig. Second, and this is closely related to the first, BioWare is made up of a bunch of goofy Canadian white people. The only experiences they have with people of color are the same as your average /pol/tard. That is; news, movies, comic books, maybe if we're lucky a book or two (though they're probably some type of genre that has traditionally not been littered with PoC writers). What does that leave us with? That leaves us with shitty characters like Jacob who never transcend the same usual stereotypes and hack writing. Quests that include more investigation in Andromeda does excite me. I don't mind 'detective vision' when it's used in cool ways, detecting blood splatters and trails, scents like in The Witcher 3, etc.
It'd be really nice if they did things like scanning the miniframe onboard a hardsuit to get biometric and GPS data, seeing where a character went and checking things like injuries and when he died. Then you'd follow blood trails, electronic signals, and so on.
It looks like they're making quests more than just 'walking around and kill everything'. I do also hope they do more quests like the beginning of Mars and the monestary in ME3. Very low light, you only see with you flashlight/possible nightvision.
