Can someone explain how gear progression works? First time playing this game. All the forum posts are about the old system of leveling up a purple weapon you get at the start.

I just got a locked Stalker box (lvl 8) and everything I've read says not to open it and save my keys. On the website it says my first weapon is supposed to be a Stalker weapon. I'm confused how I'm supposed to get new weapons.

This looks like the best source I could find from the various sources listed. Someone asked a bunch of players on stage 6 weapons and 8 piece shields to run some kind of Meganura Training Room thing for roughly 2-2.5 minutes and send him dps screenshots. Again, the sample size is straight trash, but at least it's somewhat controlled on other factors.

In this game only the weapon has durability and the repair tools are practically handed out for free.

Both factions suck as far as their general populations go, just roll whatever the clan you want to join is in or whichever one dominates SSP on your server.

Just don't wear any faction uniforms when you don't want to open world PvP (there isn't even a point to PvPing outside the PvP zones). It's optional in this game, it just mainly saves you money on soulstones and moonstones (and can even make you some) if you're willing to farm.

Only clans are limited to factions but you can still group from people from clans on different factions. You just can't join a blue clan as red and vice versa.

Other than that it's only faction PvP content, which in reality is PvE where you make good amounts of gold if you're on the dominant faction because the underdog factions generally have given up on each server by now.

In the high pop servers, one faction tends to dominate because players who tend to engage in zerging behaviors tend to gravitate to a faction that's doing well and keep zergs active around the clock, making it harder for the other faction to gain a foothold.

You can still have fun and make money as certain classes or with a good party by trying to snipe zerg stragglers or farming fringe mobs in the PvP areas, but the dominant faction on high pop servers is basically 24/7 easy money.

You might have to check faction chat to see which channels are going to which faction in low pop servers, I'm not sure if they ever settled one way or the other.

You actually have to add and subtract from the AP total depending on class to use it a fair assessment of performance. Most of the time, Lock just gets a straight 50-100 point bonus due to party buffs being useful regardless of mechanics.

Des starts getting significantly increased returns after 700 AP and the gap between 450 and 850 is large enough to make situational considerations, since an 850 AP Des can compensate for not having a soulburn from a 450 AP Lock just through its sustained and burst DPS if the bosses in a dungeon aren't highly mobile.

Take a >500 AP Lock over anything if you don't already have a Lock and take anything over a <650 Des.

Don't use the flamethrower.

That fight was stupidly designed, it's one of the first ones that requires diligent use of your skills rotations, yet they throw that flamethrower red herring in there to make you think you need to use it when you can't solo it in four seconds.

It's a long fight for a solo player at the level you get the quest, especially since you've pretty much just been steamrolling beginner garbo mobs up until that point. Use your counters and resists as needed and any burst DPS rotations when available, it's not a hard fight.

Warlock (Lock, WL) - Ranged. Highest burst DPS, low sustained DPS. Actually does so much burst DPS that it has a tendency to pull aggro away from tanks during the spike parts of its cycles if it isn't careful. Always in demand for endgame group content due to group DPS buffs, almost never given flack or kicked out of parties for low AP. Don't get used to your familiar, you're only going to be sacrificing it for buffs as soon as you summon it. Nearly as squishy as FM when all else fails, but has more tricks up its sleeve to try before it all fails due to more and class exclusive CCs. Low tier PvP, you lose if you can't kill them the first time you manage to CC them because of long cooldowns.

Soul Fighter (SF) - Hybrid. High burst DPS, decent sustained DPS. Closest thing to a support class due to healing skills and a skill that instantly revives party members. Less overall DPS than FM but better survivability due dodging and countering, but longer cooldowns on melee counters with less DPS increase for using them compared to KFM. Low tier PvP, a halfway decent FM and a halfway decent KFM might be more useful as a final party member in PvE due to flexibility, but in PvP you're just inheriting the weaknesses of both without reaping the maximum benefits of their strength.

Also I wrote those blurbs about the classes because I figured everyone else would either not say anything or just push their favorite class or the FotM. Write a better guide if you think it sucks.

The classes are a matter of personal preference anyway, Des is the only one that would ever have any issues trying to join lobbies even if they meet the AP reqs. There's not much point in trying to describe the classes anyway, they should just try them until they find one they like. I can say KFM is a tank, but tanking in this game isn't like tanking in other MMOs, so that doesn't really tell a new player anything useful.

DPS :: FM > Everything but Des >> Des

BM - Tank, Defensive party utility, easy to play at a basic level.

KFM - Tank, offensive buffs, kinda complicated to play.

FM - DPS, Ranged, defensive utility skills. Pretty much your standard caster class, though it has more mobility than other games given that.

WL - DPS/Buff, Ranged. Only class with access to the Soulburn party buff, so they're always in demand. Low mobility.

SUM - DPS/Heals/CC/Random utilty, ranged. Has a mixed bag of a bunch of random party assisting skills. The closest thing you'll realistically get to a support class in the game. Low mobility.

BD - DPS/CC with some mixed utility skills, pretty squishy in PvE which can make it hard to get good DPS out of without getting yourself killed.

Des - DPS/CC with some mixed utility skills. They're currently in an awful place PvE and have horrible sustained damage.

SIN - DPS/Offensive buff, also has ability to skip trash mobs for the party with a party teleport and stealth, so that's nice. If you enjoy making people mad in PvP play this class. High mobility.

SF - DPS/Heal. The only hybrid melee/ranged class. Less of a support class than Summoner. High mobility.
