I just dont understand the balance behind. Sure, yea, its relatively free, extended damage. But TEN minutes? TEN minute cd for things that only last 40 seconds or something? You can get BoS to last 30-40 seconds easily and its only on a 3 minute cd restriction because of Hungering Rune Weapon.
And then they stuck AotD on Apocalypse on a 1.5 min cd, and it does burst, so its actually good. AotD should be on a 5 minute cd. It is no Bloodlust, it has no right being that fucking expensive.

Different specs have different strengths and weaknesses.

Different scatter patterns for AoE, different patterns of burst, different types of mobility, different types of raid utility.

Class imbalance is when one class has advantages in nearly all areas, as well as having higher raw DPS.

So, for example, Frost DK is the strongest class right now. It's the best at everything, and it's only weakness is mobility.

Unholy DK, alternatively, is the weakest class right now. It is the worst at everything, as well as having no mobility.

But there are certain cases like Balance Druid, which is fantastic in all of those areas. So, in spite of their fairly low raw DPS, people still love them.

It's pretty unlikely you're going to get declined for a group over your spec unless the leader is a shitter, though. A good player with good gear / good experience will do comparatively well regardless.

None of the specs are really HUGELY bad right now except beast mastery and unholy DK.

Class balance is most affected by the fighting style of the current raid. Every class and spec in the game has a niche, strengths and weaknesses. Feral for example has good single target but poor target switching ability and long ramp up time on cleave. Since the majority of fights in Nighthold incorporate adds Feral isn't that great, in addition its not very good at dungeon content either. Class "balance" is essentially the idea that each spec should shine on particular fights. Class homogenization would be another option where every spec can do everything as good as every other class and every dps is within 10% of each other on every fight. But that would be boring because every class would play the same, so instead the idea is that X class might be below average for 5/10 bosses but then above average for the remaining 5 bosses. That way every spec gets its turn in the sun and pure dps who have multiple dps specs have the flexibility to rotate between optimal specs based on the fight. However the sheer logistics of designing a raid tier around this mean it almost always doesn't happen.

Ultimately, good players can find ways to make anything work. A good player using a shitty class will still always be better than a shitty player using a good class.

It only really matters when your entire guild is parsing at 99% and you're still short on something. At that point, you get to say things like, "Well, shit. If so and so were playing a different spec or class, we'd have this."

But those situations aren't going to occur for most people.

Raiding isn't like assembling Ikea furniture. Things change based on the strengths and weaknesses of your group, and mistakes will always happen.

You're the drummer in this band; you set the pace. If something gets out of sync, it's your job to pull it back into time.

Aside from Brewmaster, tanking generally doesn't require a lot of technical skill. Most of them are simple to play, and tank healing is easy enough that it's no bother to compensate for mistakes.

Being able to maximize both DPS and survivability simultaneously is pretty valuable, but it's still less valuable than being able to control the fight well.

If you can only do the former without the latter, you may as well play DPS.

If you think it's something you can learn, though, Mythic+ will either make or break you.

At higher difficulties, they're basically like 20-30 minute raid encounters - and so much depends on your tank.

You need to know exactly what pulls each dungeon requires for percentage. You need to know exactly how and when to pull each pack to maximize damage, and when or if you can afford to pull more than one at a time. You need to be able to set a predictable pace and be aware of CDs, pots, and mana. You need to know how to best handle each affix for everyone in the group. You need to be aware of what classes you have with you, and how you can use them or how they will change things.

And then on top of that, you also need to do everything a normal DPS does - maximize your own damage, manage your CDs, stun and interrupt at the right times, all while also maximizing your survivability so that your healer can either better react to big damage or do damage himself.

Tanks already make up a fairly small % of the game's population, and only a small % of them are good enough to handle higher keys. Open up the LFG tool at any given time, and 99% of the groups will be waiting for a tank.

Once you can manage them, tanking raids will seem like nothing.

It requires a high level of interest in something that I have absolutely no investment in.
I can't speak for most, but I suppose you can say that I've been on the mediocre side of raiding at a few points. I can say with full honesty that it bores me more than grinding out dailys.

Not gonna lie, I know multiple gladiators who didn't have any difficulty transitioning into heroic/mythic. Not sure people realize a sizable portion of PvP is just PvE damage/healing.

Doesn't really work the other way around, though. CC, diminishing returns and line of sight aren't too much of a concern in PvE.

What's the easiest boss to go to next after Trilliax?

My guild are being pussies and keep calling raid early or being like "let's go do EN for memes haha!" because they seem scared to progress on anything after that. They say we don't have the DPS for Krosus which is probably true cause not everyone has 54 traits.

Botanist or Aluriel.

Aluriel is a bit more DPS intensive I think, but with good preparation is easier than Botanist. Botanist requires people not to fuck up individually and to be quick with target swaps and stuns/slows while dodging everything.

Botanist doesnt have much of a dps requirement, but has a lot of individual skill required. you cant have people die early, and there are a bunch of things you can fuck up and die to.

It's difficult to rank, talking from personal experience we have an easier time reclearing Aluriel than Botanist.

For Aluriel ranged have to learn how the ice mark works, you should assign two people to each fire elemental so they don't get a single cast off, and describe a path to drop the arcane bombs next to each other and then it's pretty easy. Repeat twice and the boss dies, you might reach enrage if your DPS is low but the enrage just kills people one by one, so you can be in enrage for almost one minute before you're wiped out.

For Botanist our biggest problem is people dying early due to the sun collapse thing together with other sources of damage, the sun collapse almost oneshots at full HP. It's not mechanically difficult, but people will die a lot. Also, if you have DPS whores people will try to pad DPS and that can make you wipe if too many people try dotting multiple Plasma Spheres for example.
