Let's discuss some shit, friends.

So some people have theorised that with this game, DR will be giving up it's current format and will be trying a new gameplay style.

If such a thing happens, what setup would you like for the next killing game? Trials or no trials, execution or no executions? Maybe even some non-trial related gameplay mechanics? I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on it.

I have an idea of my own, but I think i'll post it later, since it's rough in a few places and I wanna touch it up a bit.

Right, so here’s my idea. I admit, right now it isn’t much different from DR’s usual style, but I think with a bit more development it could make for a good change of pace.

>Every chapter, the characters are placed into different target groups

>Characters are only allowed to kill people who are in said target group

>If they directly kill someone in a different target group, they’ll be executed, no question.

>When someone is killed, those in said target group are given a harsh handicap during the investigation.

I want to get locked in an airtight school and fix her with hope. I was actually thinking that the first trial would have an even split of people (8:8), with the trials alternating in size. The last regular one would have a target group of 3, with the trial being a tug-of-war between two equally likely suspects.

Still, you raise a good point on game balance.

I'd say that the protagonist would have his equal share from being with the jury to being on the trial, though at best, i'd keep him on trial for only half the running time.

Monokuma would call everyone up, humiliate the blackened, spear them up, than reshuffle the target group.

If they do it innocuously, like say, leaving the evidence in a place that the blackened target group can enter, yeah. Anything else? That member of the jury would be penalized and would be prevented from contributing to the trial.

That's a good point. To accommodate said point, if enough evidence rises that someone who was proven innocent may be lying, the jury can take a group vote to put him back on trial again.

It was interesting that neither of them really took up the mantle of trying to lead the group after his death. Like Ouma, you'd think that their talents would lend themselves to that direction. Hell, even Nekomaru's one as Ultimate Coach you'd think would give him some predisposition towards leadership.

I want a V3 rewrite. I want to see a V3 where Saihara stays as his normie self and goes through the game as he wanted. Kaede thinks him to be this quiet and shy detective that just needs a good push, but as soon as a dead body is found, she notices changes. He's suddenly more anxious yet excited. He moves and begins to look and touch over everything with a smirk on his face that could only be found on a madman. At the trial, Saihara cunningly works his way to the truth all the same, but makes the culprit feel guilty as hell by calling them "disgusting" and "pathetic" since a novice like him could even figure this out.

He points to Kaede and laughs at her, wondering what she was planning all along by traveling with him, scarring Saihara from trusting anyone else in this game. He is sure to let Kaede know this as she goes off to her execution feeling betrayed and hated by the one friend she truly had time to make.

At the middle of the game, the protagonist would find out he/she was the traitor because the traitor would actually be a role assigned by Monokuma at the beginning of the game, but because the protagonist was scared after reading the beginning of the killing game letter, he didn't read the back of the card where that was said. After knowing it, the player will have to keep playing the game knowing it would end if he/she died.
Due to branching paths, the game wouldn't feature a bonus mode and would have a smaller cast.

Looks like I misunderstood the mechanics a little bit though.

So there are only two groups, target and jury, but the size of the groups changes over time, right?

That would mean the first case would have half the cast already cleared of suspicion, since nobody would have broken the group killing rule.

Later cases wouldn't necessarily have to increase the number of targets as long as the complexity of the case increased.

The handicap that the targets suffer would greatly limit a protag's role, as he'd be forced to sit around, unable to investigate in certain cases.

...Unless, a different, non-target person in the case fed him info. I'm not sure if they would be playable or not, though.

This could happen multiple times, and in one case that person is the culprit, and they were giving him false info to throw him off.

I agree that situations like this are similar to a theme of trust vs. distrust. To make it seem original, though, you can refer to it by a different name.

Something like faith vs. doubt, perhaps?

When it comes to the protag being trapped in a blackened target group, I still think the protag would have a decent amount to do during the investigation. They just have to be a bit more practical in this case.

Though they're completely blocked off from investigating the crime scene, they still have complete access to all the other areas in the school. They can also interrogate their fellow blackened for any information they have.

As for getting information from the jury, I could see them trying to find sneaky ways of obtaining information from them, like, for example, recording a conversation between two members of the jury during the investigation.

Tiny things like that which could make Blackened cases really fun and inventive.

Faith Vs. Doubt sounds like a pretty good title for the theme. I definitely think a theme like this has way more potential than Hope vs Despair.
