>>
>>168763470
I just went in with a level 6 crew GR-Occ-BH-MoA and ended with 2 on death's door and my BH dead. Wiping was a legit possibility.

Your guys already have stress issues, they're all gonna get triggered, possibly before you even get to Vvulf.

Speaking of which...

My coach is literally about 80% vestals, jesters and plague doctors, with the occasional occultist thrown in

I've gone 40 weeks now with no replacement Arbalest, no replacement Highwayman, and no replacement Bounty Hunter

And now that my last surviving BH just got ganked by Vvulf I don't think I'm going to get another one.

>>
>>168764425
theres a setting in the menu called stagecoach deck I think, turn that off, it makes healers appear more than they should.
>>
>>168763470
All your level six heroes have fairly high amounts of stress, while the event's enemies and boss deal heavy stress damage. You'd be risking affliction or heart attacks going in with them now. I also wouldn't suggest doing it for your first time without a man-at-arms, the boss has a very high damage attack that can easily take heroes to death's door from full HP if it crits. Guarding is extremely valuable during the fight.
>>
Is the wiki accurate about the Radiant mode changes? I've heard different things about it so I'm not sure what's true or not.

I think everything other than

is correct.
>>
>>168765878
So there's no increases gold gains or smaller maps? Don't remember where I heard that from.
>>

ANYTHING inside a dungeon is completely unchanged, just remember it that way

Radiant mode just lowers requirements for almost everything

do not do that unless you have dogemaster with guard and stress heal, and ancestor portrait
or do not do that at all
>>
>>168761741
I faced him the other day, he really wasn't too bad, but maybe i was just lucky.
I had:
Leper with life crystal and surgical gloves
MaA with tough ring and ancestor's bottle
Hound Master with a camo cloak and a music box I got during the mission
Occultist with junia's head and something else.

Leper was the main damage dealer, and with a little over 70 or health, he took hits well. Because the boss can guard a friendly unit, the leper can effectively hit him regardless of his rank with revenge boosted chops

The MaA was incredibly bulky, so he guarded whatever unit that was targeted by a bomb.

The occultist used weakening curse to cut vulvf's damage to the point that the bombs did 4 or 5 damage to the MaA when they blew.

The houndmaster marked and rushed vulvf.

It went well with everyone at 70% health or higher at the end. I lost my MaA to a fucking fuselier in a fight after to some really unlucky crits and a heart attack sadly.

>>
>>168778004
trouble yourself not with the cost of this crusade
>>
>>168777672
I always get armor upgrades first for the sole purpose of increasing the Houndmaster's dodge chance.

For all other heroes; weapons. Speed is perhaps the most important stat in the game. The extra damage is okay too.
>>
>>168776965
>>168777272
The torches are on the high side, but between the extra light lost per step I'm getting, the cultists, and the chance for a bad map layout, I'd rather play it safe and overshoot how many I need. Sixteen torches definitely hasn't been enough for me in previous dungeons. I can always throw extras out if I need to.

I don't particularly care that much about the ruins curio interactions. I almost never end up needing the confession booths, and the team I'm bringing on this dungeon has two stress healers anyway. Alchemy stations, urns, and iron maidens only guarantee loot, which I'll probably end the quest filled with. It's not like I'm missing out on purging a negative quirk like I would be if I didn't bring herbs to the cove.

>Very first playthough on Radiant
>Spent 30 hours farming shit, upgrading stuff, leveluping solders, collecting trinkets, it was fun
>Have fully upgraded Blacksmith, Guild and Stage Coach
>~15 out of 25 are level 6, all fully equipped and leveluped
>Suddenly hit the wall, level 5 dungeons are too difficult for lvl 5 solders and there is no reason to send lvl 6 there, since they won't levelup anyway
>Decided to try the Darkest Dungeon
>Sent the A team, got teamwipe on the boss
>Immediately sent the B team, got teamwipe on the second combat in the dungeon
>Realized I lost all of my good trinkets and half of my lvl6 solders and I have to spend hours to repair the damage
>Decided to try the Hag instead
>Sent the best of the best lvl6
>Only managed to get her to 80% HP and then had to flee because 3 out of 4 were and the Death Door
>Realized there is nothing I can do to increase my power except for hours of mindless trinket and quirk farming
>Ragequit and deleted the save
So I'm not going to start again, but I want to know, what are you suppose to do after you hit 6lvl with your solders?
>>
>>168716696
>Another neat ability for the cook would be being able to stack food higher and getting more food from food curios, but I think you cannot mod that in either.
i'm pretty sure that'd be possible
in the antiquarian.info.darkest you'll find a line that says " extra_stack_limit: .id antiquarian_gold "
and in inventory.darkest you'll find " extra_stack_limit: .id antiquarian_gold .item_type gold .item_id "" .amount 750 "
i'm no coder, but it looks like a pattern you could use
>>
>>168781567
You've pretty much got it, once a hero gets to level six they go to the darkest dungeon. Once you complete the four darkest dungeon quests you beat the game. After that you do it again on Darkest and Stygian mode.

Please sell me me on the Abomination. Why would you ever want to use this guy?

I completed the game without ever understanding what this class is supposed to do. I took him with me once in the entire game. My bro-bro Reynauld wouldn't go with him, he stressed out the rest of the party, generally acted like a fag and died on the first Death Door.

Those who are running this abomination of a character :^), why?
>>
>>168783080
i'd say there is about the same gap between lv1 and 3 and lv3 and 5.
In lv5 you have to pay attention to your trinkets, play with stuns, temporize for heals and you should be fine
in lv3 as long as you don't have shit quirks things will go smooth (with basic trinkets)

>>168783123
he has self heal, a decent stun and can be nearly as good as a leper when he turns
>>
>>168783263

>he has self heal, a decent stun and can be nearly as good as a leper when he turns

But why not just run a leper then? That also has self-heal, and doesn't stress out the rest of the party. If you need stun, there are better options as well.

What niche does he fill? What party compositions make him shine?
>>
>>168783926
I guess he shines in the ruins because he can plague bot the midline then pummel shit along side the grave robber and the plague doctor
>>
>>168783926
>>168784026

He's good against Shamblers if you camp before a shambler.

You pour whatever damage and speed buffs you have on him, and then have him transform and spam rake to kill the little shambler babies before they can do anything. The rake increases damage on each turn, to help ensure the baby shamblers stay dead.

Rake spam is also good when combined with occultist's tentacle pull because it clears the corpses from early rakes AND puts the squishies in the range of rake.

There is a trinket that lessens the stress Abomination gives out when tranforming/transformed, and I believe the more you level the skill, the less stress it gives.

Parties that crit a lot and focus on the stressfags in the enemy backline are good with him.

The annoying thing about him is his headbutt skill doesn't work in the very back, which is probably the skill he'd most want to be able to use when he's put back there.
>>
>>168783080
Most players have some difficulties when transitioning from veteran to champion dungeons. On Darkest and Stygian you'd have to power through it and adapt since heroes won't accept quests on a lower level than they are, but Radiant is lax with that and lets you put off the problem.

The most important thing to learn is knowing when to retreat. There's room to experiment with different strategies on high level quests using high-level heroes, but that's only possible if you aren't getting team-wiped. Sometimes a clean win just isn't possible and it's better to cut your losses and run away. That way at least your failures don't result in hours of grinding and leveling up a new batch of heroes.
>>
>>168784026

>I guess he shines in the ruin
It's a shame that the other two characters who shine in the ruins, Vestal and Crusader, refuse to go with him.

>>168784337
Cool, I'll give him a try with an crit party. Let's hope he can handle being shuffled all the time

When are they going to fix the "Religious characters don't like Abbo but are fine with the wise magical arab of R'lyeh lore" bullshit?
>>
>>168783926
I love him in the Weald for his blight resist. The party I use is HM-OCC-ABOM-MaA. MaA usually guards ABOM since the main annoying enemies can only hit the front two rows. OCC debuffs Treebranch faggots attack, HM marks them, ABOM can knockback rush debuff them and stun them along with MaA. HM can help stress in battle and at camp. I run the ABOM anti stress trinket a bit too.

Houndmaster is a suitable replacement for MAA since he has a guard as well, albeit a bit riskier than MAA since his gives him prot and the Houndmaster one gives him dodge. if you really don't have either, you're gonna fucking suffer through the mission. now granted you can ignore the mission, but doing so basically sets you back months of in game weeks because of the fact that he just deletes the progress of two buildings. so skipping it entirely is an option, but usually just a last resort one. you can bring a squad of level 0's fresh from the cart and just abandon immediately to not face the repercussions of not doing it entirely, but if this is stygian you'll just get one death closer to the limit

What are good setups for lvl 5 bosses? Things like necro lord, swine god etc etc.

MAN IN A ROBE, CLAIMING COMMUNION WITH THE DIVINE
>>
>>168795784
necro lord is obviously crusader bait, so bring two or maybe even three if you're ballsy, and a vestal for heals. prophet gets absolutely cheesed if you bring double arab man to debuff his attack stat to nil levels. from there you can focus the pews for your frontliners to take him out easy while the arabs keep debuffing him. don't forget antivenom for this fight. swine god can be tricky, but manageable. bring a full fledged marking party of occ, arb, hound, and bh, mark and either debuff the god's attack or have arab focus heals, and the key thing about arb is that she can clear out marks with rallying flare, so make sure she doesn't get stunned by wilbur. flesh is prime double or maybe even triple houndmaster time, spam hound's harry and hope it dies before you do from the massive bleed damage you rack up on him

hag witch is a total bitch to deal with, pray she doesn't pot your main attackers, I recommend a semi mark party of vestal, arb, hound, and hellion. spam iron swan with frontliner hellion, eat dog treats for maximum rush damage, and mark with arb to lower her dodge and keep a mark for hound to get boosted damage. pounder is an endurance match instead of a full fledged rushdown. I recommend the same party as the last boss. keep everybody healthy and no matter what, always focus the matchman, even if there's a character on DD. siren can be a bitch if she charms a main attacker, but this can be cheesed if you bring a lower leveled antiquarian to the fray for her to aim to claim her, but obviously you risk dying earlier since the cove itself is the problem here, as for other party members, just standard cove run team, so no big bleeders like houndmaster or jester (unless you run finale). finally the crew is also crusader bait bring him and if you really feel ballsy bring someone with a massive move skill chance attack to try to pull the crew or push the anchor, but if you do manage to do that, all you have to do is focus the crew and not worry about his gimmick

>what are you suppose to do after you hit 6lvl with your solders?
Kill bosses and help out occasional 5's to catch up.

It sounds like you are bad at team comps, you don't need bis trinkets/quirks for DD, even on darkest, you just need sound strategy and lack of fuck ups.

I completed the first mission on second try with lack of supplies event in total darkness by the time I got to the boss. The trick is to prepare a team that is geared to counter opposition's top moves. In DD1 they are Stress spam, bleed spam and party shuffle. I went in with Man-at-arms, Vestal, Highwayman and a Jester for stress heal. Equipped them with a bunch of blood resist trinkets to avoid bleed spam and went in. Do note how everyone but the vestal has 1 forward move, allowing you to perpetually move vestal to back line even if she gets pushed forward. This isn't the "best" comp, you can find any number of ways to counter DD1, but you have to think about it, not just send your topdog team because it worked elsewhere well. Admittedly losing trinkets sucks, I had a couple very rare ones going in, but you don't need them, they just make it easier and safer.
>>

The one where you can go to get a special shrieker trinket is only available on the day, while retrieving stolen trinkets is always available
>>
>>168817902
yep that's champion

I'd recommend just leaving that until you're ready.

You could try to send 4 level 0's in and see if they can survive until round 4
>>
>>168818620
i was thinkin of trying it, but i forgot, my higher leveled heroes have some nasty diseases. If itll stay there, then ill train a bit more. Thanks

So with this shrieker, do you seriously only have to survive 4 turns? Do you get any bonus from trying to kill him or is he as tanky as the pounder?

Killing him is meaningless except for it being a feather in your cap.

Destroying his nest, on the other hand, gives you fat stacks of cash.

Assuming you went all the way and took the OG party in.
>>
>>168820923
If you kill the bird you get the trinket reward (if there is one). If you kill the nest you get a shit ton of gold instead.

I found it to be extremely easy with 2 Grave Robber throwing daggers (+Acc), Hellion front line & Man-At-Arms guarding both Grave Robbers. Be sure to equip Acc trinkets as well if you go for it.
>>
>>168821804
Is it like a madman scenario where you have to kill pews to get gold? Or is it something else?
>>
>>168822018
There's just one nest, it takes up 2 slots and the bird takes 2 slots as well. They will alternate rank position. The fight ends when you kill the bird or the birds last action on Turn 4.

If you're really lucky you could theoretically do both - kill the nest and then the bird before its last Turn 4 action. You'd need a lot of crits though. Could probably do it with 4 Houndmasters.
>>
>>168821804
You don't need to kill the bird to get the trinket, when I went there I got the nest and left it at around 15hp before it flew away.

for Curios, just know which ones are guranteed to give you neat stuff, like stress heal or curing negative quirks, skip the books though.

At the beginning of the game you just want to learn party composition and attacking properly. That means knowing your ranges and how to reach the things you need to. Learn how to deal with stress or stress healing compositions, like bringing a Jester or a Crusader and spamming the stress heal. Your troops are more likely to die due to stress related shenanigans than they are from actual enemies that early on. Make sure to use the Sanitarium to remove any bad quirks.

As you go through more dungeons and everyone starts leveling up, you can start investing gold in them. They're less likely to die with armor yknow.

Its when you get to Veteran and Champion with the much tougher enemies that is when the real game begins though. Thats when you have to be prepared to face certain miniboss tier enemies and that death is a lot more likely.

I remember it was the same for me for a while. Eventually something just 'clicked' though.

At first, something that helped me was using heroes in 'appropriate' areas. So, crusader and vestal in ruins because they have attacks that do extra damage to undead, occultist in cove because he has attacks that do extra damage to eldritch, etc. Learning the threats of each area and what heroes are best suited to deal with them really helps.

Antiquarian can help you rack in some gold, if you put her on a team and make sure to protect her.

Have a quick gander at this image. Don't try and remember it off by heart, or even copy it exactly, but it really helped me understand how to set up a party until I had the basics down well enough to start playing with other stuff.

Don't be afraid to spend money on your heroes. What's really important is unlocking certain abilities which will really benefit your team. If you spend money on a hero to give them good moves, they're more likely to survive and make you that money back.

Any suggestions for the Brigand x-pounder fight? I'm figuring something like

Hellion with Iron Swan, Make it Bleed. Should I bring Adrenaline Rush?
Man at Arms as a buff/guard bot
Vestal for fourth
Torn on third, stuck between Bounty Hunter and Jester.
>>
>>168854374
I say go Bounty Hunter over Jester. For the battle itself MAA isn't that great as a buff/guard bot though. If you can get on top of the initial bandits then the only thing that really matters is killing the match dude asap and he's guaranteed to move last. Whenever I go to fight the big guy I go three DPS and one healer and it ends up as a joke.

Doing my first NG+ run and it's already harder with the new patch than it could before, so far no deaths on ~23 week and pretty much all good trinkets I'd use in DD and this shit appears.
Not only it shits on you with stealing your trinkets, almost kills my hero, stresses everyone out to 100+ and gives the black plague and a bunch of shitty negative quirks, it's also not even rewarding on veteran level.

Neat, I'm doing my first NG+ run now too. Just got done with the first darkest dungeon mission, currently at 46 weeks. The only two deaths I have are from the starting stagecoach heroes on week three. The vestal got marked down by spiders and died on her first death's door tick thanks to blight, and the plague doctor got killed by the collector since there wasn't anyone to heal her. Also died on her first death's door tick to bleed.

The apprentice and veteran dungeons seemed about the same to me, but I've been having a much harder time doing champion ones. A champion long dungeon in the ruins felt more difficult than DD1.

I'd only do Ruins champion dungeons, the others are way harder to do and riskier.

First DD should be easy with Jester - HWM - HM - Vestal like I did before.
I only worry about DD2 and unfortunate crits on templars. Otherwise it would be an easy fight with this setup.
>>
>>168855286
Ehh fair enough with 3 DPS 1 healer I usually end up with more damage than I need to kill all the bandits but I like to make absolute sure. MAA would probably make going through the dungeon leading up to it easier then.

>>168854873
I say usually killing the match dude is better than stunning him. Yeah another will show up next turn but they're usually one-shottable with enough damage (which BH and Hellion have). I usually like having a grave robber or highwayman fighting the cannon just to make sure the match guy dies. The rest of the team can do whatever they need to after that point.

I've only been doing champion runs in the ruins and cove. The biggest threats in the cove are the spearfish and squiffy ghast encounters with a thrall, but overall it's usually a bit easier than the ruins for me. Coral curio alone has been well worth any risk there is in going there, though.

The whole point of abominations is getting free positive stress-100 buffs, the most trivial one is the first DD and first encounter against 2 passive dudes.
You just spam pass / transform to death until you get all positive afflictions, stress heal if you get negative ones. You can't get penalty stress or reinforcements obviously because there are 2 dudes and they do not attack you.

That's how they cheese it with abominations.

this actually seems pretty solid. Your Anty can get out of the way with Get Down, your Highwayman can easily push through with Duelist Advance and your Leper/Arby are viable on half of those slots. I'm saying put Leper at 4th, put Arby at 1st, and Anty+HWM wherever that way even if they get shuffled at a bad pos (Arby/Leper) they'll easily be just 1 position away from being viable.

if there are two guys, you can stall forever. if you kill the second to last guy, you have this turn, the next turn and at the end of the turn after that, you get stress. after that turn, you get to fight reinforcement.

>>168904018
you need to prepare for it in advance though. hover the mouse over the item you will need, walk a bit and see if his quirk procs and just right click straight away. it will freeze and bug out a bit, but you will get the loot like nothing happened.

Just kill all but 2 enemies. They can't spawn help unless it's one guy left. Certain enemies like the club skeletons, mushroom men or the courtiers make good targets for this. Does this game even have much content? I remember playing in the past, maxing out my stuff and killing the bosses. Apparently the actual darkest dungeon is out now as I watched someone on Twitch a decent while ago and he was speedrunning it. Just doubt there's much to talk about unless loads of content was added or it's way harder.

Not trying to be a dick, just seemed like all you needed was a tank or two, a healer and a status man. Great game nonetheless.
>>
>>168910952
theres not a lot of content, its 4 maps + the darkest dungeon, a handful of enemies and maybe a dozen bosses you fight multiple times. The fun it is is progressing through the progressively more fuck you difficulties. Theres a content update coming soon(tm) though but its at most only adding a few things
>>
>>168911167
>but its at most only adding a few things
Says fucking who? It's the first expansion, there's nothing to go off of outside of a single patch they just released that added new enemies, a boss, and even new gameplay mechanics. Who's to say what a full-blown expansion would add?
>>
>>168910952
Well the DD is quite hard, but your mileage may vary depending on how thoroughly you really grasp the mechanics. There are new bosses that you can encounter randomly or through town events. There are new enemies in the game to give later level dungeons more variety and edge as well. Overall though no it's not like it has the most varied amount of things to do or see compared to all games of this genre.
>>
>>168911402
He might be talking about the free content updates, not the actual DLC expansion.
>>
>>168910952
I'd say there's enough content to keep it fresh for one playthrough.

That said, would be great if heroes had more variation besides "this one is afraid of beasts" and "this one hits harder than the rest".
>>
>>168910701
Yeah, that is true. Only encountered this specific instance once in about 90 weeks. It's pretty rare you want to camp in the exact room you finished the dungeon mission, but it can be annoying.

Another thing to note is that you can use camp skills before you close the loot window. you can get through the meal phase, make room by eating food and take the stuff you want, but you cant finish the entire camp.

What do you even call this? It's not a Pain Train: only one of the cars is dedicated to damage.

And how do I take the game seriously now that I realize this comp would trivialize everything?

Why?
Dismissing is annoying and wastes time. Wouldn't it be nice to just put them in for a week and be back?

Your primitive thinking reflects a lack of experience.

This team comp has been through every single long champion dungeon with 0 supplies and came out successful.

>>168917713
It's called a stall team. If at any point one of your heroes reaches low health or high stress you simply keep 2 enemies alive until you're back up to full health 0 stress.
Don't ever use the comp if you're worried about that.
>>
>>168917917
NEVER FUCKING USE THE TAVERN
Also level 1 church provides enough stress throughout the entire game.

The things you should be prioritizing are the wagon, the guild, and the smithy.

No such enemy spawns exist.

Only 10% of enemy attacks hit so that's not an issue.
>stress higher than your stressheal
Are you not aware that stress healing someone to 0 removes afflictions? If you're really worried you know you can just keep 2 stress damagers alive and stall out the fight until all 4 heroes have virtues. Of course you'd have to be fucking insane to do that since it would take at least an hour.

>gitgud, because your strategy will not save you against any and all RNG fuckups, like Critical Treebranch Smackdown
This is perhaps the most laughable thing you could have said since giants are by far the best enemy in the game you can happen upon since they are very predictable and take up 2 positions. Every giant is basically a free full heal/stress heal.

Before the next DLC comes out? eh, nothing comes to mind. During or after the crimson court, though, I'd like to get some closure and more backgroundo n the weald. I kind of always assumed during the beta that we'd eventually find out where the fungus was coming from, I was pretty disappointed that nohting gets resolved by finishing the darkest dungeon. The warrens might someday be cleansed of pigmen now that the swine god and the flesh are destroyed, the ruins might also be cleaned out of undead once all the necromancers are killed, and the cove seems like it would just be a matter of doing some kind of magic to ward off the pelagics. The weald, though, there's something weird going on in there that isn't just the fact that it's full of monsters, something that's hinted at with the tentacle-fungus and the obstacles, but never elaborated on. Is the hag responsible for all of it? Will it ever be a nice fores again?

dodge has a hardcap, so it isnt a guaranteed save, and that tactic leaves you with 1 guy short in fights maing them 3v4, prolonging it, so its not only increasing the chance that the dodge will fail, but the 2 other nonprotected guys are also more prone to taking hits.

So apart from a few fringe cases like prophet, vvulf or when you know with utmost certanity where the enemy will hit, its better to use the turn offensively, which make sthe guard dog ability FAR from being the best skill in the game. its actually ywap, tied with PDs dual stun, both can take out 2 enemies almost permanently out of the figth wiht chainstuns.
>>
>>168985794
It's easy to figure out which are the high priority targets to defend, and most enemies have predictable attack patterns.
Instead of ignoring 50% of attacks it's more like 90% of attacks when played correctly.

In any case the Adrenaline rush has more value than Yawp since you don't ever need Yawp to do damage and it can heal you off of death's door in a pinch.
As for the plague doctor it's a decent skill but that's all it will ever be; decent. It's nowhere near as game breaking as guard dog.

I'm week 6 and my starter heroes have 6 diseases between them and also many of the most debilitating quirks like -speed and -acc. Stage coach keeps pumping antiquarians and vestals. I could keep running weald while waiting for better heroes but at this point I'm not sure if it's worth spending two months to heal these fuckers. To make things even worse, I had good trinket luck with Sun Cloak and Calming Crystal so I don't really want to reroll either.

>Guard dog is just a shit version of MAA's guard. If you are using HM for his guard why don't you use MAA instead?

Because even though MaA's guard raises prot, it doesn't raise your resistance to bleeds, poison, or stress, so snibbidy snabs and stressfags will still be a pain in MaA's ass.

Houndmaster's guard on the other hand, allows him to take zero stress and zero dot damage because it won't hit him in the first place unless you get unlucky and eat a crit treebranch smackdown at an inopportune moment.

>ignoring 90% attack

Some enemies can't hit all allies. For example, the cultist brawler's "rend for the old gods" attack can only hit the front two heroes. So if you kill the other people on the team, you can put a HM in rank two, and some other hero in rank 1, and spam dogguard on the rank 1 hero and heal and hack away from the cultist brawlers while the brawlers keep attacking the dodgebuffed houndmaster, because they're unable to target anyone else.
>>
>>168988168
>if you kill the other people on the team
>snibbidy snabs and stressfags will still be a pain in MaA's ass
So if you use MAA you dont kill the crab and the stress dealers but if you using HM you kill them first ???
When the dudes that hit all rank are taken out MAA just do the guarding better and you don't even have to move him around. Like the other anon said there's a dodge cap and it's not guarantee you ignoring the attack

>>
>>168988852
You have to use them both to really understand. The Man at Arms is okay if you don't have a houndmaster avaliable, but just can't compare.

He can get stunned, bled, blighted, diseased, debuffed, knocked back, stressed, and even if he has 500% resistance to everything and 100% protection he can still get crit and have the whole party take stress damage as a result.

The houndmaster on the other hand has a flat 90+% chance to ignore the enemy's attack entirely.
Just test out the Houndmaster and you'll see why Guard Dog alone makes him the single most game breaking unit.
>>
>>168988962
It's better to fight baby shamblers than abhorrant shamblers. If you want all the Ancestor's trinkets you have to take those risks.
>>
>>168988962

Just preshuffle and pop those holy waters and everyone besides PD.
>>
>>168989692
You guys are confusing me as to why you use guard dog
>use it to stall to fully heal stress heal party after killing the stress dealers
MAA's guard achieve the same thing crit only slow the process down by 1,2 turn
>use it as in actual fight/boss fight
There's Templar and Vvulf boss fight and in both case MAA is better cause one boss got aoe so HM would make it 3v1 and increase the chance he fuck you up and the other if ihe fail to dodge you go death's door instantly.
As in normal mob battle you have even less reason to use guard (either MAA or HM) cause you can just kill them off?
HM is okay if you don't have a MAA not the other way around.
>>
>>168991096
Have you ever actually used a houndmaster this way before?
>>
>>168991387
Yes I have you can easily go over 100 dodge and basically immune to enemy's attack. The problem is even though it's good as a dodge buff it's shit as guard skill. Make the guard last 2 turn and it's broken but 1 turn you'd better let MAA do his job and use HM kill shit and stress heal
Maybe I'll go test again when MAA can no longer guard 2 people as for now saying Guard dog is the best skill and better than MAA's? NOPE

The Weald got Shrieker so I want to see another addition to the other three as a similar event or some other gimmick that's either late/early game. Holy crap do I love everything about Leper and his designs. The fact that he was a beloved king/man-of-the-people until he was afflicted with leprosy. Instead of mourning and crying in the corner, took the holy mission to dedicate the remainder of his life to undergo a pilgrimage to slay evil; turning his illness as the source of his strength. Even his broken sword is symbolical and practical, was a warrior's greatsword that turned into a executioner's tool for beheading foul abominations by reducing it's weight and focused on lighter, cleaving swings. But still, I would want to try a mod that gives him a whole sword instead.

>>
>Silence in the crypts

Should i go for the second prophet?
>>
>>169001070
....Everything you posted about his sword is wrong. It's an executioner's sword. It was never designed for actual combat, it was forged for the purpose of executing nobles. It's impractically heavy, all the better to give someone a good, clean execution where the head comes off in one swing (This is harder than it sounds). The fact that it's broken isn't helping him in any way, shape, or form. The leper is just using gear that's damaged and not right for the job. Much like himself.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

What am I in for? How do I get them back? I have never faced against the shrieker before.
>>
>>169006064
it has a really high dodge score (63 on champ difficulty) and has 3 moves per round, so debuffs wear off very quickly

take accuracy trinkets/buffs

It shuffles around so make sure you can hit the back 2 rows

It automatically dissappears after 4 rounds, so if you can just hold tight for that time then you'll get your trinkets back

if you destroy it's nest, you get a fuckload of money (like the prophet pews)

There is no dungeon before the fight starts so dont bother bringing food, shovels or torches.

It has a strong bleed attack/debuff, so take bandages, medicinal herbs and holy water. Do not take antivenom

It has a very high resistance to blight, so dont bother using it
>>
>>169006730
So I should only focus on destroying the nest and tank out until he leaves?

>>169032015
It strongly depends on what you need most for your estate, but I often find it is best to focus on deeds.

Deeds are used to upgrade the carriage and blacksmith so you'll be burning a lot of them, and meanwhile
>you can safely spend all your portraits on the guild without worrying about the tavern
>upgrading bust buildings (sanitarium and abbey) is less important because you can get events to make them free, just focus on more rooms
>nothing is as important as upgrading your carriage anyway

Money shouldn't be an issue for you if you're playing right, getting heirlooms and good quirks is always higher priority

I need to screencap my explanation of why there are several reasons you are strongly incentivized to simply fire bad heroes who get stressed out after their first mission. The short version is, you get new heroes for free and you can convert those new heroes into cash with one mission - no cost for upgrades or anything - then fire them after instead of paying for recovery. This will help you learn more team compositions, farm more shamblers on apprentice difficulty, and save more money.
>>
>>169033294
I'm playing on NG+ buddy, money is always a problem since you buy trinkets and lock useful quirks.

Time limit is just there to fool you. Once you beat it you'll realize that you're not even close to hit the week limit (Fist time I beat it was on week 60, later less than 40). Losing heroes shouldn't be a problem assuming you've already beaten the game in normal mode and know your enemies
If you want to play safe then only do Ruins and only do short champion

I'm almost done with my NG+ run, and haven't had any money problems at all. I was able to save up more than enough to fully upgrade everyone's gear and skills before they did any champion dungeons. Getting lucky with events, doing cove runs, and doing weald medicine quests cut down on early/mid-game sanitarium costs by a bit, but now that my heroes are fully decked-out I've been able to focus entirely on quirk management. I was also able to get most of the trinkets I wanted from doing quests.

Honestly, I think the radiant update made the game a bit too generous with gold. I always had enough to get everything I wanted, and I didn't even have to sell any trinkets to do it.

Beast of Burden
>A hulking armor clad warrior stalking the ruins, partially constructed by dried out meat and scraps of metal. Its animated by a demonic snake that wriggles through the many holes and passages of its body
>Main body has a high proc, attacks with powerful multi target strikes
>snake has no prot but high evasion, inflicts blight, will change the position of its head to in front, behind, and the unique up top position

By the way, this is good shit -- especially the interwoven serpent + armor, and the miniboss interrupting a fight in progress (based on bleed, which people are less likely to use in the cove, making the fight not too common).

I wonder if the Beast could take up one 'slot' and be selected in the way limbs are in Fallout VATS.
>>
>>169049181
Thanks. I was more thinking the beast takes up position 1,2, and 3, with the snake starting position 4. The snake in position 1 moves the beast back to 2,3,4, and up top the beast stays the same but the snake is only selectable by range. Didn't want to have it alter the game mechanics too much

If this is the same anon, you got some cool ideas you should send to Red Hook. Particularly all of them except Beast of Burden lacks lore and finishing touch (would be interesting if you can fight him via wack-a-mole each position of the snake and it leaves the armor transforms into a vulnerable state). We could use more ideas that's away from the idea of a classical DD boss room and unique that makes the boss more worthwhile to fight than a drag. I really like the Stalker being able to fight him unexpectedly at the corridors since it keeps people on their toes.
>>
>>169050001
why the fuck do you have breathrough on your hellion instead of a normal attack?

>would be interesting if you can fight him via wack-a-mole each position of the snake and it leaves the armor transforms into a vulnerable state
thats a really good idea to add a more unique mechanic to the fight. The idea from the stalker comes from Etrian Odyssey because FOE's royally fucking you while your in the middle of something always adds tension, more dynamic boss encounters is defiantly something DD is lacking in

I much prefer snek to generic tentacle.

A "Serpent of the Ruins" would be distinct from everything else in the zone, but still appropriate for the late medieval / Victorian aesthetic, considering the significance of that creature in the culture and symbology of those times (due to the influence of Milton's Paradise Lost and the actual Bibble)

I feel a snake would be "Romantic" enough, aesthetically speaking, to fit well in the Ruins.

Do you guys think the occultist's cauldron could use a boost? It seems like it encourages people to try a frontline occultist, but is the stun boost really enough of a motivator? I know some people do second rank profane scroll vestal, but I don't know how much success people have with frontline occultist.
>>
>>169052260
I was the earlier anon here who fought him twice today. All you need to do is destroy the nest and survive for 4 whole turns until he escapes. I used Arby, Occ, HM and BH stacked with ACC and dodge. Had trouble with him with at least one hero on death's door but I managed to kill him without any serious trouble. Just make sure you stay alive, don't stun him, bring all bandages/herbs and destroy his nest while he tries to stress you out. He got his AI reworked in the new patch so I don't know if he still has the same pattern so be warned. Pre-patch, the good thing about him is that he only uses peck once and his other attacks can be shugged off.
>>
>>169052770
Houndmaster has a better stun as a frontliner and he's more tanky via dodges. If you want to use Occ as a secondary/tertiary fighter then stick with his anti eldrich skills like Stab and Artillery. He does acceptable damage plus a decent chance to crit.

Frontline Occ works but it's weird. Most of the time you end up dealing damage and stun making the debuff extremely situational but if you make him a debuff support backline you can't stun. The trinket force him to go for the rank 2 "Debuff and stun" which is shit

>>169050807
If it bleeds is better for hitting rank 3.

I've had a surprising good time in Cove with 2nd rank Occ, even without the cauldron. Was using a cleansing crystal.

That -virtue chance probably would have fucked me in this case.

you pratically described the antithesis of why and how i use hellion: with that build she is useful no matter the situation.
Storng frontline? stun them while the team either takes care of them, or deals with the backline first while the front is kept docile for at least 2 turns. Strong backline? swan them (vestal or others can finish it off), then stun the front (first action swan recives no debuffs from excessive stunning). many small fucks like dogs and spiders? breakthrough them, then stun them (again, first use breakthrough has no debuff) softening them up for other multi hits like leper or houndmaster, or outright killing a few. Got a rough patch? ywap can stall safely without reinfrocments against almost all enemies (so you dont have to mess with getting wine fucks to the front). Anyone from either (or even a combination of) pos 1-2-3 survived with 2-3 hp and MUST die? breakthough it.Several guys incl. hellion on deaths door? adrenaline frees up the healer for the other guy, or allows forgoing a healer entirely for an offensive as fuck comp like PD-hound/antiquarian-leper-helion. Got shuffled? breakthrough into place. Thre is literaly no situation where she isnt a main asset tier that you can play around.

Point is, she isnt there to do damage (apart form swan), she is there to prevent it. The fact that se can do damage during that, makes her an even more pwerful pick.

for that "superior" build, why take whicked when instad of hitting the guy, i can- and will stun it (you siad it: "stun build"), so even if i attack i would have a massive debuff at which point it has like 2-3 xtra dmg over breakthrough, but only on a single target and only on pos 1-2, wihtout move and bleeding cant attack pos 1 which is where the tough guys that are left for last (kept stunned till then) usualy end up, and again: during the fight im gona stun, not bleed so whats the point?
The sheer utility of swan and BT overshadows wahtever advantage these 2 skills might have.
>>
>>169053561
That might work if you could undo it by chain stunning.
>>
>>169053326
but its pretty much only good for that (if you choose to bleed 1 guy for multiple turns instead of stuning 2 with hellion, then we are done here) while breakthrough can be used for much more. Note: hitting pos 3 instead of stunning is only worthwhile if it kills the guy on that move, removing that enemy, as stun effectively removes 2 (for that turn). Bleed, by definition is an over time effect, so you only kill with it on its turn if the guy is already low, at which point BT does that (and much more) just as well. If you want to kill that guy over multiple turns (what bleed is for), just use the rest of your party for that, while the hellion keeps 2 other guys stunned for those turns, making the figth 2v4, greatly reducing incoming damage and stress.

oh shit nigger

Don't you know this DDG (Designated Ded General) has a regulation-shrunken character limit? Discussion of this volume and depth is prohibited.
>>
>>169054525
You are using a half-assed Hellion then. You either start the fight with stun or Iron Swan the backline not both. You kill stuff if you can in this game not spreading the damage and do a cool triple kill. You are making your Hellion more versatile but in the process make her worse at what she's suppose to do
Here is what happen: you stun the enemies's front line 2 turn straight while while the other take care of the enemy's back line after that finish off the frontline
> it has like 2-3 xtra dmg over breakthrough
>bleeding cant attack pos 1
That's why you use both to make sure you got the kill
>>
>>169055287
If it bleed+Iron Swan+Wicked Hack is what make Hellion so good as they enable her to hit all rank. Now if you wan to go for stun you want to make your Hellion exclusively good to fuck up frontline enemies and that's when Iron Swan has to go. Breakthrough is just not good enough same with many other aoe skills. With the increase HP in NG+ it's even less ideal to run aoe without a primary attack. You don't run Zealous without running Smite, Grapeshot without Pistol shot and in this case Breakthrough without Wicked Hack.
>>
>>169055685
you stun the enemies's front line 2 turn straight while while the other take care of the enemy's back line after that finish off the frontline
Having swan does not diminish her ability to do this. by the time she would contribute to finishing off the front line she is heavily debuffed form all that stunning so you are better of to keep stuning, as wicked will do shit dmg, and you cant bleed pos 1, which is the most frontline the frontline can get and you are supposed to be killing now. And its the end of the fight, so whatever meager advantage the 2 skill have does not warrant having both just for this one occasion when compared to the versitality of the alternative.

So having swan is not an exclusive or of either stun or backline, but an additional viable option that you otherwise would not have, without sacraficing anything.
>>
>>169055287
Breakthrough is only good for shuffling fights such as Shambler or DD1 boss because you can move forward if it's needed.

Otherwise it's dogshit.

thank fuck I thought it was just me

>>169056364
I dont want her to fuck up frontline. I want her to stun fronline. Near permanently. I only need 1 skill for that, so i might as well bring other skills for when frontline isnt the biggest concern she can still contribute considerably.
This nets be the best of both worlds: she can hit all ranks, albeit for mop-up pupose only, and make frontline irrelevant.

In the end we can go on like this forever, and its one of the strongpoints of the game other than the atmosphere: it allows for multiple viable playstlyes where everyone can find what works for them.
You guys are still shitters though, seriously i bet you guys run pos 2 vestals
>>
>>169056993
>best of both worlds
Like I said you either start with stun or Iron Swan, you don't get value out of the stun if you Iron Swan and vice versa. Also you can't stun them forever and if you have to go for damage then BT is a shit choice that people running pos2 vestal use
