Well it was well times and its strong for so early. Right after I got it I had to kill 3 ice dragons which landed me some ice scale armor and this treasure trove of 400 gold, amulet +reflection and a few rings including a +3 dex ring and a +6 int ring.

In response to the PCB-R guy last thread and his conversation about how to manage energy randomization:

I can appreciate what you're saying about wanting to have a random element so that a player can't have 100% control over every situation by simply being fast enough. However as other anons have pointed out getting double-rocketed or mana-stormed is particularly unfair and unfun.

As a quick-fix solution, you could simply implement a rule that says no enemy can cast the same spell (or breath or other effect) twice in a row. As a better long-term solution however you could write something that detects double-turns in enemies due to energy randomization, and set a rule limiting actions based on that information, to prevent unfair spamming of ultra-powerful attacks.

That's right.

But Merfolk have a pretty bad Armour skill aptitude, so I guess he might have just concluded that Strength isn't worth it. Encumbrance is lessened by both Strength and Armor skill, and if he didn't choose a background that gave a Strength boost, it probably wouldn't have been worth the effort to dump stat points into that. I guess his plan is to accurately damage monsters from behind his summons, which will do a lot of the work.

Yes and no. On one hand, you're definitely right that all Strength would do more damage than all Dex.

*But*, you have to remember that you can get a series of unlucky rolls -- unlucky in either damage or accuracy or both. Getting unlucky in a highly tense situation isn't good, even if you're not playing recklessly.

I do agree that Str is clearly the more important stat, but a little bit of Dex can lessen some painful RNG moments.

this isn't exactly perfect though. 'm'agic all uses one stat, but p'O'wers can scale with any stat. a wild-talent might find himself with a strength-scaling android raygun, an int-scaling telepathy buff, and a dex-scaling poison dart

I made an attempt.

Counting only first realm choices:
Force-trainers and monks have five realms.
Priests and paladins have four.
Mage and yellow-mage have 11.
Blood mage is 10 (no life).
High mage has 12 (hex)
Grey mage has 3.
Chaos-warrior has 2.
Rogue has 6.

There are 20 banned classes (two centaurs, two tonberries, and seven each of blood knights and blood mages).

Monster races:

I get 39 non-dragons, counting the three final hound forms separately.

13 dragons that can pick a realm * 6 realms all can pick + two crusade dragons + two death dragons + steel = 83 dragons

So 122 monster combinations unless I accidentally the math, which is likely.

No, !curemut and !benemut are all a part of the standard potion of mutation.

!mutation cures 2 to 6 of your mutations, then gives you 1 to 3 random mutations, and then gives 1 good mutation.

other things you should consider:
?teleport level
randomly teleporting in the same level can potentially land you near awake angry things, and especially if you are dangerously low HP it's better to use this
?destruction
10x more power than the staff, so monsters have 1/10th the chance to resist

you should definitely have at least one of those two scrolls available so you have an emergency "fuck this shit" button that even works vs charge draining or itemdestruction (which can both fuck up your staves)

Annihilation is nice in my opinion for any fat lategame enemy who is otherwise a major pain (keeper of secrets, black reavers, lord of change), even if it's often for cleaning or convenience purposes and tele other could also work

It's also important to note that annihilation is far more common than _genocide and also easier to use. And it doesn't wake up same-race enemies so it has some use for vaults.

You get magic missile and phase door to start with. Your ringbearer is like riding a pet, you can control its movement but it will attack and cast spells on its own. Bad idea to get "wandering" enemies like smeagol or those town drunk types as they have a set chance to move randomly. Unique enemies also are much more likely to realize the ring is cursed and will remove you and attack you.

Some enemies evolve (particularly humanoids and dragons, although rings can't ride dragons), but most don't.

Non-humanoid enemies will attack you, humanoids won't unless you fail to make them pick you up (based on your charisma score). Basically dogs use their doggy senses to figure out you're an evil possessor ring, whereas humanoids are too greedy to do that.

The Unicorn (and to a lesser extent PGR) are literally unbeatable for many characters though. Morgoth is just a big HP sink like J. Plus he'll come right at you after a teleport so summons aren't particularly threatening.

The answer to most questions like this is: look at the apts.

Centaurs have terrible aptitudes for both Dodging and Armor. Because of their poor base Dexterity, it's almost always an uphill battle for them to have good EV. Thus, it's better to just focus on Armour, so as to not waste XP.

Yes they're simple tiles but they're good, Doom RL is good too, so is Nethack, Nethack4 has some nice simple tiles.

I guess if want something more detailed you could try Elona but if you want to get into that game I recommend going to the general on /jp/.

And it's not a roguelike unless you play on inferno, be prepared to lose literally hundreds of hours of progress(grinding) because of a stupid mistake.

You should quaff them as soon as you get malmutated (or get a series of malmutations).

On the other hand, you *could* quaff the first mutation potion you find, and if it's good, you could roll with it. However, quaffing mutation potions all the time is pointless: it tends to remove your mutations, including your good ones, more than it adds to them.
