It's funny because in the newest iteration of the namesake franchise of this general there is a Winston Churchill quote which there is a dramatic pause righter after saying "I am fond of pigs" before continuing, and because players usually skip quotes that is all they here, now it's a meme and you are posting an image of a pig like species from another 4x game. Very funny.

Welcome to modern gaming, where you're not supposed to get immerged in the story and just repeat the same shit all over and over again.

So late game ES2 it's impossible to switch governments. There's like 20 turns of anarchy between governments and you get unhappiness from pop not represented in the senate, even though there is no senate.

Right now I am rebounding between industrial and ecologist dictatorships every other turn, with all my systems rebelling. Is this intended?

For the sake of discussion, what kind of genre would you like the next AAA 4x game be?

I am dying for a new Gangsters: Organized Crime. It has all the usual things you would want from a strategy game: War/Diplomacy/Economics, with the added twist of having to play around a way stronger faction ( The government/police)

>>
>>168551758

Yes, but deeper and more with a focus on actual gangland activites, and less chainsaw nuns.
>>
>>168552037
Like Omerta? I found it pretty fun but a bit lacking. And the combat was utter shit.
>>
>>168552075

Ugh, Omerta was such shit. It banked on my fond memories of Gangsters to get my attention. I got hyped, and then played it and realized that the " Gang Management' was basically a facebook waiting game mixed with a shit XCOM clone.

If you don't mind old games that really don't age that well, You should check out Gangsters: Organized crime.
>>
>>168552462
I remember trying Gangsters 2 and hating it because there was no sandbox game, just a campaign.

And Omerta was pretty shit, but I liked beating the crap out of KKK knights.
>>
>>168552851

Gangsters 2 has a really sad story. It was coming out around the time some RTS were getting really popular, and the devs wanted to cash in on that, by removing all the unique things from the game, and turning it into a shitty half Age of Empires clone. Gangsters and Gangsters 2 really have little in common ( Besides shit controls)
>>
>>168553128
Wait... So which one did I play? I remember one where you start with just a car, a thug and you and you have to shoot a guy down.
>>
>>168553336
That's Gangsters 2

Gangsters 1 had no real story, just a set of different maps, mixed with the ability to randomly generate a map.
It had a weird, turn-based structure, where each turn was a week. You would give your gangsters order, tell them who to extort, what businesses to buy, who to hit etc etc. When you were done, you would click finish, and the week would begin. you would watch your guys complete their tasks in real-time, and be able to issue them simple orders on the fly.

Gangsters 2 basically took the " during the week controls" and made that the whole game, gutting the management portion.

I know there's mods that allow for multiple crises but I would love having something that allows a second crises to happen and actually takes it into account, things like events, buildup to the inevitable clash between the two, some new techs and events that show how desperate the rest of the galaxy is getting and a bunch of Prethoryn mutating after constantly being around Unbidden and turning into monsters that are worse than the other two and turning it into a 4 way battle

They're not sending their best and brightest, folks. They just aren't. They are probing anuses, they are abducting cattle and I assume some of them are good ayys. We're gonna build a force field to keep the ayys out and the ayys will pay for it.

Believe me, I know force fields. It will be the biggest, best force field within 10,000 light years. It will make the force field they have on Tau Ceti E look like it's made out of Legos. And after we build the force field we are sending every ayy that is here illegally back to their homeworld. It's time to make Earth great again.

I spoke to their leader, their head guy the other day, and he said "President Trump, you can't build a force field and we certainly aren't paying for it." You know what I said to him? I said "Draxzlor, the force field just got 10 miles higher."

>>
>warp into system to engage enemy fleets
>fleet spreads itself thin and focuses on a bunch of transport ships while the enemy fleet just blasts me apart

ok I know stellaris combat isn't anything stellar, but that's fucking stupid. I'm pretty sure if it let me focus on one fleet at a time I would have had that battle easy
>>
>>168568742
There is absolutely no reason not to always send 1 corvette first to system to check things out (if there's any doubt whether or not you'll win) before your main fleet goes in
>>
>>168568742
Theres a mod that unfucks targetting priorities, but it really shines when the transports or resource stations are lumped into the main enemy fleet.

I use it and my fleet targets the fleet before it goes onto transports.
>>

Monopoly bonuses are so satisfying in VP. I hope they introduce corporations and monopoly bonuses in a Civ 6 DLC or at very least move their asses and release the modding tools so others can do it for them.

They took so many other ideas from Vox Populi that I can't imagine they aren't aware of the value of monopoly bonuses. I can't remember if they were present in Civ 3 or 4.

When the Fox Empire sends its furries, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you. They're not sending you. They're sending foxes that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing rebels. They're bringing factions. They're terrorists. And some, I assume, are good people.

But I speak to colonial governors and they tell us what we're getting. And it only makes common sense. It only makes common sense. They're sending us not the right aliens.

It's coming from more than Fox Empire. It's coming from all over the Federation, and it's coming probably -- probably -- from the Fanatical Purgers. But we don't know. Because we have no protection and we have no competence, we don't know what's happening. And it's got to stop and it's got to stop fast.
>>
>>168563237
>Sign a Migration Treaty.
>Be surprised when people use it.
This is all on you.

You should have verified their Ethics and Habitability Preference first before making stupid decisions.
>>
Fanatical Spiritualism is eating up large portions of the federation. They've become influential. I'm in competition with them.

They just built a temple on Abraxis. Can you believe this? They built a temple. When I have to build a building, I pay taxes. They don't have to pay taxes, because they took an old loophole that when we left the Roach Empire, I said we should've removed.

So now the Fanatical Purifiers have the lythuric gas, and what they don't have, the other zealots have. And in 20 -- and I will tell you this, and I said it very strongly, years ago, I said -- and I love the military, and I want to have the strongest military that we've ever had, and we need it more now than ever. But I said, "Don't hit the roaches," because you're going to totally destabilize the federation. The zealots are going to take over the federation, and they will get the gas, and it turned out that zealots are now taking over the roaches. Think of it. Zealots are taking over the Roach Empire, and they're taking it over big league.

We spent $2 trillion in the Roach Empire, $2 trillion. We lost thousands of lives, thousands in deserts. We have wounded soldiers, who I love, I love -- they're great -- all over the place, thousands and thousands of wounded soldiers.

And we have nothing. We can't even go there. We have nothing. And every time we give the roaches equipment, the first time a bullet goes off in the air, they leave it.

Last week, I read 2,300 corvettes -- these are big vehicles -- were left behind for the enemy. 2,000? You would say maybe two, maybe four? 2,300 sophisticated vehicles, they ran, and the enemy took them.

AUDIENCE MEMBER: We need Trump VII now.

TRUMP VII: You're right.

There are actually multiple native factions that depend on the market, but I agree about the not explaining things
There is a nation guide that comes with the GOG version but that doesnt really explain much besides giving a little bit of story about the factions but that guide is 145 pages long and in most cases where there are native factions that can only get gold via market its only explained for like one native tribe why

>desert world on almost the outer rim
Why wouldn't that work? Deserts are places of extreme temperatures at both ends of the spectrum, their defining characteristic is lack of water.
>>
>>168631096
The atmosphere could play a role in that too. A heavy atmosphere that traps warmth could be the cause.
>>
>>168631096

Because it has the same rotational period as every other planet and has a pop capacity comparable to most Earth-like worlds that makes lack of atmosphere/a fucked up heat gradient extremely unlikely.
>>
>>168631348

That doesn't explain how you can get tundra worlds as close as Mercury to a sun-like star. Besides once a planet gets far enough from its star it doesn't matter how thick the atmosphere is. It just won't be possible to trap enough energy to make it habitable, much less hot. Saturn's moon Titan has an atmosphere that's so thick radar is required to see through it but it's still cold as fuck there.

Afaik Hive minds are the 9th ethos.

Prethoryn have the lowest chance of spawning.

I think they have a pretty high chance of spawning (Like, they'll spawn in 75% of games), but they won't spawn if any of the other events spawn first. And it's pretty easy to have someone research forbidden tech early and trigger a crisis.

From the Starfish stream Paradox has been releasing, you can get early-game techs that boost your total Core System cap (in one case, a 1000 point tech that boosts it by +2) and stuff that increase your Twirly-Whirly Focus Swirlies.

And on that note, to get an idea on how powerful Ascension perks are, one gives you +25% border range while another can give you +5 Core Systems or even -100% tile blocker removal cost.

From what I saw of the later-stage Ascensions, I noticed a Biological perk that gives you +2 Trait points and -75% cost to genetically engineer a race, and that's a first tier Biological tech.

The only reason I research Strike Craft is because I'm a terminal autist that likes to immerse myself in the world and realize an empire of my scale and grandeur would look awfully stupid without fighters or bombers, yeah?

And then I construct vivid fan-fictions of humans or other races committing crimes in my empire's space, and there's all sorts of stuff about them overcoming the obvious foci and technologies I researched, before making it to safety.

Who else does this? Construct mind-stories where your empire's either the backdrop or even the antagonist?

This is actually a standard tactic in warfare that modern people have forgotten exists.

If you can't for whatever reasons defeat or suppress another group, what you can do instead is send as many of your young unmarried men that you can afford to their lands. These young men will need wives and, due to unavailability of their own culture, will instead choose the other culture. Inevitably this will cause the entire culture to shift.

Humans have been using this tactic since tribes were a thing.
>>
>>168691776
Humans were very devious back then.
>>
I keep reading that humans are sociable creatures.
Just for reference, how would human society be like if we weren't sociable? Isn't it mandatory to develop anyway?
>>
>>168692474
> how would human society be like if there weren't human society?
>>
>>168692474

Division of labour is kind of a big deal to develop complicated societies and technologies, you need a sociable species for that.

A spacefaring species that's GOVERNMENT GET OUT REEEEEE levels of individualist would demand that each invidiual is some sort of multitasking genius god, like maybe some sort of species that lives really really long and has super intellect, telepathy and the like.
>>
>>168692847
So a solitary species wouldn't work?
>>
>>168693064

What's the context of this conversation?

Real world society? No, there's a reason ancap is a meme on /pol/.

Stellaris sci-fi? You'd need a species that meets the conditions I gave, a bunch of telepathic starchild superbeings are likely not going to be part of a tight-knit society, they don't need to be if they can do everything by themselves and meet all of their needs and wants individually.
>>
>>168692474
If we weren't social, the internet wouldn't exist. Afterall, why would we ever want to talk to anyone, let alone someone we don't know on the other side of the world?

Civ4 introduced corporations that functioned using the same spreading mechanic as religion. Corporations were spread using executives and consumed resources for a certain benefit in that city in exchange for increased maintenance.

In Vox Populi corporations work by franchises being established in cities you complete trade routes with. This is somewhat similar to trading posts in Civ 6.
>>
>>168712802
Interesting. I've only played 3, 4 and unmodded BNW.

Are their different bonuses for a monopoly?
>>
>>168713519
You build corporations like wonders. Each corporation available gives bonus yield to a particular set of resources and have their own bonuses for every franchise you establish in other civilizations and city states. For example each franchise may give you +4 golden age points per turn. You are therefore motivated to change your trade route destinations to establish as many franchises as possible.

There is a policy in the Communism ideology that allows you to establish franchises in your own cities instead of foreign cities. I can't remember what exactly the major benefit is but I can tell you it is very powerful and helps if you don't want to depend so much on global trade.

The two things I want in Civ 6 DLCs are a world congress and an in depth monopoly and corporation system.

The Roman Empire is famously known among historians as an "Alliance of City-States," and in fact when the "Alliance" started to fall apart and the Imperial Administration had to step in and bloat up is around the same time the Empire began to collapse.

That is, in fact, one of the biggest reasons for the Empire's collapse; the government got too inefficient through corruption, and the corruption came because the government got too large, and the government got too large because power became extremely centralized.

Bloat breeds economic hardship, which was further strained by the expensive wars fought along the Germanic and Sassanid borders and eventually the army realized *they* were the ones in power, and could thus elect Emperors at will.

I could go on, if you want.

Also, do we know anything about the Chemical Bliss living standards.

It's because the concept of hyper-religious alien empires is a fun one, and for many of us the "Proud Warrior Race" or "Tech-obsessed hippies" is a bit too... Bland?

Personally, I'm going full Old One and Necrontyr for my first two Banks/Utopia builds - one is fanatically spiritual and obsessed with..

Wait, wait a second. Would the Old Ones be Psionic, or Biological? They loved genetic engineering (they made the Orks and Eldar) but they were also exceptionally psionic, could I just play them as Biological and genetically engineer a psionic race? Is that something you can or could do?

So, I started to play solaris - and I'm kinda stuck. I go to war with that one enemy, and I litterally can't win the war.

>My condition: Vassal
>Their counter-goals: Freeing a tributary of mine, liberating 2 planets of mine

I have killed all their troops, have them completely besieged - yet their wargoal gets a +1 every month.
They don't have a single unit near my tributary nor planets nor any region involved. How the f does that work?
(Unless them being in a colation, magically means I have to beat all of their factions, or it is useless)
>>
>>168750350
>solaris

And yes them being in a """"colation""""" matters. They can literally be obliterated, no ships, all their planets occupied and if they have lots of allies, you have to fight them too to get the warscore up.

>>
>>168766520
I don't know where exactly I stand on global warming. We chopped down all those trees to build civilization on top of it. Chopped it down then burned it to keep warm after we were done building with it. Then the industrial revolution happened with no regulation at all pumping crap in the air and we're still fine.

But again. I'm all for more nuclear power. Fuck wind and solar. I'm convinced faggots don't like nuclear power because they think the cooling towers are putting out "nuclear smoke". "Because coal plants put out smoke when they're done burning coal right? Well what happens when you're done burning uranium? Nuclear smoke!"
>>
>>168767174
>Fuck wind and solar
you know that solar energy is literally responsible for all life on earth, right
>>
>>168767174
problem is that we won't be fine forever. right now its been a string of the hottest years ever recorded, and its only going to get worse if trump goes circlejerking with his donors to get even less regulation on coal and oil. I agree that nuclear is the way forward, alongside wind and solar. Most people don't like nuclear power because they're heavily misinformed about power plant meltdowns and think that they cause nuclear explosions that wipe out whole cities and shit like that, and that living by one gives you tons of radiation (when in reality, eating a single banana gives you as much radiation as living near a nuclear power plant for a whole year)
>>
>>168767174
Industrialization didn't cause many environmental problems in the 19th century because it only happened in limited areas and because the global population was so much lower then. And in the sixties and fifties before the EPA, shit like acid rain and flammable rivers were very common.
>>
>>168767174
>and we're still fine.
That's because of the sheer size of the Earth, anon. The Earth does not give a shit about humans. 3 degrees celcius means fuck all to the Earth.
Also, those revolutions were fucking miniscule compared to the US alone today.

>fuck wind and solar
Why? Do you have any idea how much power is contained within a single rainstorm or windstorm? Do you realize that almost all the energy on planet Earth comes from the Sun?
>>

>we're still fine
Look up the Great Smog of London.
>>
>>168767174
>Then the industrial revolution happened with no regulation at all pumping crap in the air and we're still fine.
That the problem, were not still fine. Damage from industrialization is happening right now and it's been happening for decades if not centuries, it's just a slow burn type deal so people don't notice. If Human history has taught us anything, as species we try to ignore disaster up until it destroys our house, then we start bitching about how no one saw it coming.

> I'm convinced faggots don't like nuclear power because they think the cooling towers are putting out "nuclear smoke". "Because coal plants put out smoke when they're done burning coal right? Well what happens when you're done burning uranium? Nuclear smoke!"

Actually most people are terrified of nuclear accidents. 3 mile, Chernobyl, and Fukushima have made everyone completely shit their pants over the possibility of a nuclear plant going belly up, all despite the fact that coal power plants catching fire or exploding, have killed literally thousands more people than nuclear plants. Once again, humans are kinda dumb like that.

It's probably misinformation on my part, but let's go with wind for now because the sun rises and sets every day and it will forever. If it stops doing that for some reason it means we're all dead or have been for a very long time.

Anyway, wind. It's start and stop, right? Obviously they build them in places of constant wind, but how do you deal with unstable power like that? It's not like when the wind picks up all of a sudden we can use that extra electricity to make stuff that uses electricity go faster and work better, that's not how it works.
I would understand if our battery technology was way waaaaaaay better and we could store it all, but we can't.
On a personal level, I get it. Put panels on your roof and you pay the electric company less when you get sun. But you can't really turn factories on and off when the wind dies.

Coal Fly Ash contains more radioactive material that is released in to the environment by the regular operation of a nuclear plant. Note that the radioactive waste of a nuke plant is more radioactive than the ash, but the waste isn't going into the soil or your water supply.
>>
>>168769175
>Anyway, wind. It's start and stop, right? Obviously they build them in places of constant wind, but how do you deal with unstable power like that?
It's not all that unstable though. The wind starts and stops locally but on a larger scale and altitudes above ground level it basically never stops.

>battery tech
That's exactly what we do though, and it doesn't have to be 100% wind.

Also, as far as solar goes, it doesn't work in all places all the time, obviously, even when the sun is up, but the amount of energy it can grab is still substantial esp. in deserts which rarely if ever have any cloud cover and can't really be developed to be inhabited anyway.

>>168769279

>>
ok so here's a feature we need. in stellaris when you see a nation getting fucked in a war you should be able to offer to go to war to save them for a cost
>>
>>168769484
One last question, please.
Let's say my local power comes from coal (I think it's gas but whatever) and there's also a wind farm.
Does that wind farm when the wind picks up make the coal plant use less coal to meet the power demands of the area? Is that essentially how it's reducing pollution?
This probably sounds like grade school shit but my grandparents have a cottage on the lake that over looks Davis-Besse and I just decided one day that nuclear is the answer and never looked further than that. It's clean, there's no haggle, no hassle, no bullshit. Human error has been most of the issue with nuclear power so far.
>>
>>168769175
>I would understand if our battery technology was way waaaaaaay better and we could store it all, but we can't.
Improving batteries are a part of it, and that's important for a bunch of other reasons too(cars and personal electronics probably the most prominent right now), but there's also just the ability to use solar/wind as supplemental sources. Backup generators(nuclear/traditional) kick in when the throughput from renewable options drops. Wind doesn't need to completely replace other things, but to forgo it entirely is silly.
>>
>>168769910
>Does that wind farm when the wind picks up make the coal plant use less coal to meet the power demands of the area? Is that essentially how it's reducing pollution?
Sometimes but not always, usually wind and solar just supplement coal and gas, so the coal and gas plants run like normal, but now you don't need to expand them or build new ones because wind and solar are picking up the slack on the power grid.

>It's clean, there's no haggle, no hassle, no bullshit.
Well there's still the issue of radioactive waste, storage becomes and issue eventually and no one's totally sure if our current containment methods are long term enough to prevent radiological damage to the environment over the long term.

Personally I'll take all that over coal and gas though.
>>
>>168769816
I think they should add a great power system similar to EU4 and Vic2. Make it so that after 60-70% of galactic civilizations are discovered by either the AI or the player, the game starts calculating a ration for each empire based on their fleet size, number of pops, number of techs, and resource gain. Top 8 or 10 empires become "Great" or "Galactic" Powers, and get some new diplomatic options to go along with it, such as interfering in wars, breaking up federations, etc.

Because war mechanics in Stellaris are terrible.
As long as you get a fleet superiority you are able to glass all enemy worlds because you know where they are and you can reach them easily and fast. And AI would do the same to you.

Well
>battles are doomstack vs doomstack
>rest is just blowing starports and capturing planets
>wargoals don't change and are limited
>can't blow, glass or annex planets
One pitch battle decide everything and most of the times you know winner before it starts.

Thing is that:
>fleets can go anywhere, no limited range
>no supply or attrition of any rate
>fleets move rather fast so there is no point in trying to stale enemy as there is no chance to rebuild fleet if it gets destroyed
>planetary defenses are non existent and static space defense is a joke
>even if you build strong point enemy can easily bypass them and strike other worlds
Compare this to old Master of Orion
>fleets have range, so you can strike only border planets
>you need take planets to extend your range
>invasions are pretty slow and costly
>planets can be taken or glassed with no issues
>static defense is strong and can repel enemy or weaken them on their own if enough resources get invested
> and due to limited range enemy can bypass your fortified border(at last most of the game).
>>
>>168776821
>>planetary defenses are non existent and static space defense is a joke
Weren't they improved a bunch in a recent patch? Dunno if it was enough to make a difference
>>
>>168777035
They got little buffed which make early rushed harder but at the moment your fleet strength will count in few K or dozens K it don't matter at all.
And even if you can just ignore heavily fortified system.
Also you can't build them close to each other so they can't support one another.
At best you can put a small station with snare in the middle of system so enemy will need to fly from center to edge and it slow them down a little.
>>
>>168776821
There's a lot to respond to here

>battles are doomstack vs doomstack
Doomstacks leave you vulnerable to raids unless it's very small planets.

>can't blow, glass or annex planets
Yes you can

>fleets can go anywhere, no limited range
EVERY form of travel in the game has a number of limitations, including range among other things (specific paths, slow travel with stun upon entering a system or reliant upon infrastructure)

>fleets move rather fast so there is no point in trying to stale enemy as there is no chance to rebuild fleet if it gets destroyed
Planetary defences plus potential vast empire size. Planetary defence can be quite scary if invested in.

>even if you build strong point enemy can easily bypass them and strike other worlds
So first defences are useless, now they're not. Make up your mind.

>Supply
Supply of energy is required

>slow/costly invasions

AI do not do raids. Unless we talk PvP here.
>can blow, glass or annex planets
Where? Not in Stallaris. Unless you use mods. And you can not take and occupy planet and annex it without peace treaty(unless you taking on pre-FTL civ). Hell you can't even purge occupied planet population or get their resources.

>EVERY form of travel in the game has a number of limitations, including range among other things (specific paths, slow travel with stun upon entering a system or reliant upon infrastructure)
You can still explore whole galaxy with a single space ship(maybe not as wormhole).
>Planetary defences plus potential vast empire size. Planetary defence can be quite scary if invested in.
Then they can by bypassed. Also it much better to invests in ships than in static defenses most of the time. They can not be also massed.
Also planetary defenses as missile bases or planetary batteries are non existent. Static defenses in form of space stations are.
But invasions in Stellaris are cheap. After you get 10 genemoded or 25 assault armies you can take any world with no problem and not lose any single unit as ground battle don't kill units for the side with advantage,
So after initial investment all you pay is upkeep and don't even need to replace losses.

Are we talking about the same game?
>>
>>168778015
Screw the AI

If you bombard a planet long enough it will die, this is being further enhanced in Utopia

Yes you can explore the galaxy with a single ship, what's your point?

Defences can most definitely be massed, you may not have reached this stage of the game. It also allows you to rebuild a fleet and secure the core of your resources. A player who ignores defences is very very vulernable to the aforementioned raids. A good player will use both defences and fleets.

I misread the point on armies before. You do, however, need to replace losses by waiting. Your opponent can also deploy his own army of 10 genemodded and destroy your invasion.
>>
>>168778851
>Defences can most definitely be massed, you may not have reached this stage of the game.

They can not be as bigger station have bigger radius and they can't be build in this radius and it prevent massing stations and build them each other.
>If you bombard a planet long enough it will die, this is being further enhanced in Utopia
How many years you need to bombard it? Decades. I am not sure if you can kill last pop on planet without mods anyway.

I play against AI only and its brain dead sadly.
>>
>>168777340

>Doomstacks leave you vulnerable to raids unless it's very small planets.

Gonna assume you're talking about pvp here
>AI
>raiding

Even then, due to how ftl/combat mechanics work, the only time it's cost-effective is against wormhole empires. At present it's far too easy to respond to raids and blow them the fuck out at minimal cost unless they're micro'd extemely well.

For example
>Have a GOTTA GO FAST corvette raiding squadron
>Send them in to take out spaceports
>Several mining facilities in the path
>FLEETENGAGED.wad
>Raiders slow to a crawl
>Enemy jumps in
>Can't disengage due to being stuck in combat
>Get BTFO or MIA for 6 months.

>You can glass planets

Not in any kind of time-efficient manner no you can't.

>EVERY form of travel in the game has a number of limitations,

limitations that are all but invisible in most wars except wormhole travel.

>Planetary defence can be quite scary if invested in.

there can be explosions, but theres no mushroom cloud or anything like that, and most of the buildings will be intact. In the case of fukushima, it was a pretty mild explosion.
>>
>>168789684
So what happens exactly? The whole things just melt?
>>
>>168789684
yep, thats why its a meltdown.

not to downplay them at all, because they are real fucking dangerous, obviously, robots dont even survive the radiation in there for more than a few seconds. It's pretty insane. But yea, theres no huge explosion or any instant effects. Only 6 people died in the fukushima disaster, and everyone was tested for radiation and shit like that.

>>
>>168790016
>robots dont even survive the radiation in there for more than a few seconds
But aren't robots completely invulnerable to radiations?
>>
>>168790121
Why would they be? Strong enough radiation fries the electrical parts in them.
>>
Should there be more than one crisis per game? Would you be ok with the unbidden and the scourge at the same time?
>>
>>168790121
Not him but reality check - radiation on that level is no different from just an energy beam, and it can really fuck with electronics. Reminder that the three types of radiation are alpha particles at +2 charge, beta particles are -1 charge, and gamma radiation aka EM. Moving electric fields produce magnetic fields, and magnetic fields moving through circuits fry them.

>>168789329
>rare earth magnets
Rare earth magnets are impossible to produce ecologically simply because of what they're made of, and in China they're mostly produced by machine these days.
>>
>>168790121

Robots are made out of atoms like everything else. Radiation fucks with molecular and atomic structures.
>>
>>168790195
It can do that? I always thought it just attacked organic matter and fucked DNA.

Or caused chemical burns, like for that Japanese poor fucker who lived 2 months, burned to the bones.
>>
>>168789838
So when a meltdown occurs, what happens is that the mechanisms in place to control the rate of nuclear reaction fail and, subsequently, the cooling system either fails or is simply overwhelmed. Fission generates a LOT of heat, but the systems aren't set up in a way that would generate an explosion - the reaction isn't all at once. For fun times, look up the elephant's foot from Chernobyl. Bear in mind of course that Chernobyl was an experiment in seeing how much shit they could fuck up.

I...this is wrong on so many levels I don't even know where to begin.
>if radiation fucks up the magnetic field
It doesn't. Alpha and beta radiation aka free helium nucleus and free electron have their own magnetic fields. A moving magnetic field creates an electric current through conductive material, that's how power plants work.

>can't we get said field to collapse
No? An electric field is an inherent property of charged particles. An electric current is simply the movement of charged particles.

>causing matter to fall to pieces
Literally what the fuck does this even mean? Are you somehow imagining that the existence of a magnetic field denies the Coloumb force?

>>168790591

Dude, one of the main reason why Rome survived that long compared to the others empire is because they were decentralized as fuck and while they managed a lot of territory, they could control it all effectively by insuring the loyalty of their client state with their protection (client state are basically the continuation of the governing body that was there prior to roman conquest, but were restricted in the sense that they couldn't field armies and had to give a yearly tribute to the roman, among other things), kind of like a racket but you're talking of an era where neighboring nations often raided one another mercilessly and endlessly so the Roman were hugely respected for preventing that from happening.

basically only repeating what >>168716774 said

The centralization of Rome corrupted it to its very core and rotted the roman nation from within, as the incompetent leaders followed one another, each time giving more bread and circuses to the peoples so they don't bother thinking about why their leader is spending more time in orgies than actually managing the nation, worsening exponentially as time went on until the Roman had become little more than a parody of what they were and their neighbor, feeling that weakness they didn't hesitate to start raiding roman land, which caused a domino effect as the now incompetent roman army couldn't handle all those barbarians while the client state themselves started to doubt the roman, each starting to fight one another for pieces of the roman clay before the inevitable dissolution of the empire.

I am thinking making an anti-missile version and throwing it in the first line might work

they should just let us set the order of battle for ships in a fleet instead of making ship CLASSES behave differently. Maybe I want to use some destroyers as souped up suicide corvettes while still having some hang back and use PD properly

>Raise or fall ten fucking degree Celsius

>Ever happening unless the world itself it hit by some cataclysmic event of eldritch proportion like every super volcano on earth exploding at the same time for no reason at all or the sun start its fusion of helium ahead of time for no reason at all, disregard the law of physics and thermodynamic at the same time

Jesus fucking christ, this is why climate change denier exist, you spout out this information as if it was even anywhere close to a realistic estimate, when that shit would never happens, it just impossible. At the current rate of pollution, it would take something around a hundred year to raise the global temperature by a single degree, if not less. and even when considering all these detail, the quantity of co2 in the air will never return to the scale it was hundred of million of years ago like during the start of the Precambrian where there was so much co2 the earth was a steambox with barely any plant to adsorb it all and hell even back then life existed so to claim temperature rising or lowering is the end of the world/all life ( or any indication thereof) is simply fear mongering.

Hell, the entire thing was renamed many time when the concept didn't stick at first. The true name would be something like ''change in the global temperature average due to pollution'' but that doesn't sound cool at all, so they called it ''Global Warming'' but when peoples started to realize that the temperature went up at some place and lower all over the place (kind of contradicting the name of the concept itself) they started to call it ''Climate change''.

That what you get when you start to mix science with politics, folk!

>realistic estimate
It isn't. I'm putting it into perspective.

>at the current rate of pollution, it would take something around a hundred year to raise the global temperature by a single degree
First of all this is blatantly untrue.
Secondly, the bigger problem is that the warming is distributed unevenly, and a single degree is catastrophic.
Thirdly, with enough warming (7-10 degrees or so, at an estimate) you can trigger a feedback loop that skyrockets the temperature to above boiling.

>they called it ''Global Warming'' but when peoples started to realize that the temperature went up at some place and lower all over the place
>realized
It's the common fucking plebian not understanding that long-term trends don't mean that you can't have a cold winter locally. People like you, for example, who believe that "up at some place and lower all over the place" doesn't mean the global temperature is rising anyway.

I am actually making destroyers with lots of PDs and give them small autocannons so they have to go in to use their guns and be effectively in the front line screening missiles

You got tricked by (((them))) anon

Look at the description

(IN GENERAL USE)

They are literally admitting in the word description that it isn't the only way to apply fascism, but in such a counter-intuitive way you're led to believe that only right-wingers can be fascist.

This is made on purpose.

JUST

Overdue doesn't make sense in context of huge events like that, and geomagnetic reversal is literally "lmao we don't even know what's going to happen but probably nothing".

>>168800090
Anon fascism is a fucking defined term that came into existence during the 20th century, there IS no other way to use fascism to describe governments because it's literally a made up word.

>isn't the only way
So according to you literally anyone you want can be facist?
>>
>>168800051

Except it isn't, I live in Canada and I can tell you our winter aren't becoming warmer, white the opposite. We are getting less snow, that is a fact but imo it only make it worse as humid winters (these have nothing to do with global warming) tend to be far colder. We are probably running right into another mini ice age like it happened back in the 1800 during the industrial revolution.

Temperature are already distributed unevenly across the earth, that the very reason we have so many type of ecosystem and life can prosper all over the place. You can have a creek where life will prosper like in the jungle and the temperature is in the 20 degrees yet move only a couple hundred meters away from it and find yourself in a desert where the temperature easely go in the 40 degrees celcius and more. So that not really a concern imo.

that feedback shit you just said sound like straight up science fiction, the earth atmosphere isn't some kind of perfect heat distributor that spread the heat evenly, nor a battery that can simply take more and more solar warmth without dissipating most of it back into space. Chance are the atmosphere will have been long gone, hell the water itself before we ever reach global temperature that would make it so that we can find boiling water( that is, not heated by any other source than the average temperature) naturally occurring.
>>
>>168800351
>"lmao we don't even know what's going to happen but probably nothing"

We do know that the magnetic field gets very unstable and weak during those (they can go on for centuries) and this leaves us vunerable to solar storms and gamma radiation
>>
>>168801295
>I live in Canada and I can tell you our winter aren't becoming warmer, white the opposite
You have literally motherfucking proved my point, you only look locally and say "lol look it's not getting hotter here so it must be a hoax xDDDD" without looking at the big picture. This is why motherfuckiing normalfags need to fuck off forever from science, and the same with politicians who understand jack-shit about anything but see fit to voice their influential opinions as if they do. Absolutely fucking cancerous.

>mini ice age
What the fuck are you talking about? The Day without a Summer? Is that what you're talking about? The Little Ice Age ended right AT the 1800s, or perhaps earlier. The warm and cold periods are hardly "mini ice ages" in the first place.

>that not really a concern imo
I don't see how what you said relates to not being a concern, for or against.

>that feedback shit you just said sound like straight up science fiction, the earth atmosphere isn't some kind of perfect heat distributor that spread the heat evenly, nor a battery that can simply take more and more solar warmth without dissipating most of it back into space
Translation - I'm an uneducated fuckwit who knows nothing but sees fit to speak nonetheless. The feedback loop in question concerns, for example, the evaporation of more water vapor from the ocean, the release of massive quantities of dissolved CO2 / methane in the ocean and soil, and the shrinkage of high-albedo polar ice caps into low-albedo seawater reflecting less light and absorbing more heat.

>boiling water
Anon what the fuck do you think happened to Venus?

>>168801319
I guess that's true, but it's generally not weak enough to break to anything but solar storms. Near-Gamma radiation gets eaten by the atmosphere, for the most part. Solar storms might be something to look out for.

>>168800351

>So according to you literally anyone you want can be fascist?

Not literally, but the term is extremely vague and only implies a totalitarian form of government, there is absolutely nothing that implies that ONLY right-wing ideologies can be fascist, only that nationalism (pro tip: nations can take a lot of shape, see: the entire world) is one of its main aspect.

Technically speaking, Stalin was a fascist. Except he disguised the absolute respect for the governing authority as absolute respect for the ''common good'', enforced by the governing authority.
>>
>>168802123
It doesn't even imply totalitarian. It implies nationalism and authoritarianism.
>>
>>168802123
>nations can take a lot of shapes
No they can't, there's an explicit definition of "nation" as far as nationalism is concerned.

And you, an educated and obviously intelligent fellow, find the use of ad hominem a proper argument. Really make me think.

That is an ANECDOTE, not fucking proof of anything. Nobody said your local area is getting hotter.

>little ice age
>The Little Ice Age (LIA) was a period of cooling that occurred after the Medieval Warm Period.[1] While it was not a true ice age, its term was introduced into scientific literature by François E. Matthes in 1939.[2] It has been conventionally defined as a period extending from the 16th to the 19th centuries,[3][4][5] or from about 1300[6] to about 1850,
Really makes me think, yeah.

>find the use of ad hominem
Better than you at least, since you find anecdote a fitting argument and don't understand how feedback loops work. Did you even understand what I posted?
