Incidentally I can actually see this hurting player numbers as it makes it even harder for potatoes to fix their mechs whenever they get tired of being in Tier 5. They would quit when they get tired of grinding the necessary resources to respec before they reached those goals.

Russ is tired of the players exploiting the Mechlab system for the last five years by being able to freely customize their variants with different weapons and swapped modules, so now will try and force people to start buying Mechbays for MC to have duplicate variants of a single Mech just to have alternate loadouts that are upgraded differently in their skill trees, by making the cost to just get a new Mech seem less expensive than eating the cost of respecing the skill tree for one variant every time you want to test a new weapon to its full potential.

From it's inception, BT has offered an abstracted hex-based movement system. The math behind it led to 'Mechs with an odd-number of walking MPs effectively receiving a "free" .5 MP due to rounding up, i.e. 3/5, 5/8 and 7/11. Furthermore, there are well known cutoffs in the target movement modifier based on the number of hexes moved which also fall on the same odd numbers, specifically at 3 hexes, 5 and 7 hexes moved. As a longtime BT TT players, knowing this invariably influenced both my 'Mech selection as well as informed the discrete movement of my individual 'Mechs during a game.

While I could write a serious wall of text about all my personal gripes concerning hex-based movement, I'll spare everyone the rant. Suffice it to say, I'm thrilled that HBS is completely abandoning it in favor of their own movement system. From what little I can discern from the latest Q&A it sounds as if each class of 'Mech will get a base TMM according to their size and then that base will be modified by the actual movement of the 'Mech (and then other modifiers such as environment, etc are added)

One of the lovely little details from the original TRO: 3025 is that the Wasp has a top speed of 66.5 kph, the Stinger of 63.4 kph, the Commando 64.8 kph and the Javelin 67.3 kph and yet they are all considered 6/9 'Mechs in terms of the hex-based system.

Allowing for minor variations in speed, such as in TRO: 3025, for what would otherwise be identical (in terms of movement) BattleMechs on a traditional board, can only add to the flavor of the overall game by increasing the differentiation between models. Unfortunately, it appears these changes will be derived using the Normal Distribution, i.e. the classic Bell Curve.

I see now that perhaps I'm guilty of equivocating "light" with "fast" 'Mechs.

However great or small this change may ultimately prove to be, as presented, it boosts slow assaults while penalizing fast machines.

Don't mix SPL with SRMs unless you have an assload of spare tonnage and sinks to justify it (see: T-Dog, Shitcrow-- hell, Shitcrow does better w/ SLs&Flamers or just 12 SPL)

Jumpjets help in three situations.

One, mobility. You can take shortcuts to get around the battlefield, attack from better angles like on mining or hpg or canyon.

Two, attack. If you're using srms with artemis against mobile enemies, you're going to have to lead your target and the artemis works by setting the distance at which the missiles reconverge is based on whatever your aim is set on. If you're above the enemy, then it's the ground in front of a forward moving mech, the missiles will converge more or less correctly as opposed to in a bigger swarm.

Even without artemis, by jumpjetting and attacking from above them, the missiles will mostly spread out on the top of their torsos and possibly just one component, as opposed to all over.

Lastly, defense. By jumpjetting you're able to turn very quickly, jump to spread damage from just your torsos but also your legs, and generally throw off the 90% of the playerbase who has trouble aiming.

There's a specific ammo chart somewhere that shows the default use of ammo from component to component. I forget the exact order but the gist is head, torsos, arms, then legs.

If ammo is in the same location as the launcher, it prioritizes that ammo first.
