area attack is kinda nice, second swing catches some new people so far and it's good for dashing assassins

but the second poke is the slowest fucking thing and everyone expects the jumping attack, not to mention the "vortex" drains all of your stamina in zero time whatsoever making it not worth doing.

You can only play valk by either slowly chipping away with single lights or just parrying like every other mother fucker, and that aint much fun

I honestly think that melee games need some jank to actually have long-term competitive potential. For Honor is over-animated, the buffer windows are too large and footwork is basically irrelevant. It's just over-designed.

People talk shit about Chivalry animations and glitches in games like JK2/JA, but unintended or esoteric mechanics that emerged from the jankiness in those games gave them depth and competitive potential.

Sure, you can counter guard break but that's not the point. The point is so many fights end up just centering on exactly that mechanic because there are so many easy kills. At least the fire isn't instant, I don't mind that so much, but the rest are just a pain in the ass.

chivalry, although goofy looking, is incredibly dynamic and engaging to play. it has no arbitrary mechanics at all, the objective of the game is to attack your opponent and parry his attacks as best you can. everything just makes sense. you can physically duck with your character to avoid an attack. you can aim for the head for extra damage. you can use footsies to win trades against longer range weapons. it just feels good.

i hate to shill my own shitty video but here's an example of what i mean, at 0:26 i dodge a viking's hammer by instinctively ducking and tilting my camera/head back, and It Just Works

Uh... Raider has a slight learning curve to be honest, but nothing too intensive. Most of the time I'm playing against people who I feel aren't as great, it requires you to think and act faster than normal. Some of my favorite combos against players who know how to play is like
Feint > Stunning Tap > Grab break > Unblockable that they can't parry due to being grabbed originally > then back away

It's a serious slow and steady class when you fight against skilled players. You're also required to Parry a lot to just fit in slight Light attacks due to their massive slow. It's a super reactive class. But against retards, you just mash your Heavy and win, which is exciting in like, 4v4 matches.

Its literally such a simple plot that people get confused.

they actually picked some really awkward attack timings for a lot of the weapons. it's like they want stuff to be blocked on reaction like in chivalry (where parrying isn't this strong), but then they added things that are very difficult to block on reaction like it's a fighting game, like warden's zone attack and stuff.

so you end up with this situation where having fast reflexes actually makes or breaks you as a player. reflexes ironically aren't this important in a game like Mortal Kombat because you're not relying on reflexes as much as you are relying on game sense and tactics.

chivalry has exactly 1 weapon that's faster than the human reaction time with even a bit of latency and that weapon utterly breaks the game if used at like 90 ping
