Okay, I'm a total newb who just started recently and I've been looking into crafting.
Everything I've been reading leads me to believe, now, that I should just avoid it altogether?
Seems expensive and the results don't seem worth it compared to stuff that can simply just drop.
Am I wrong? Is there any reason to craft? Also, is it possible to get T-ATK onto crafted R-ATK or S-ATK weapons? Not that you necessarily would or should but I'd just like to know out of curiosity.

They don't, they just have the same DNA records as they do for Caseals. That's how they can get the data to "build" a baby.

Casts in PSO2 were originally one of the flesh races. But for one reason or another they had to be placed in a Cast shell to continue living. Usually it's done because their flesh body could not handle photons well enough (Like Regius) or they were injured or had some sort of illness so they were placed in one to survive. Sometimes ARKs will fabricate injuries in order to basically conscript someone into ARKs by placing them in a Cast shell.

Thats what makes Sierra unique, she was born as a Cast. This also means that Sierra can not get pregnant and chances are you will not be able to make a baby with Sierra, since she has no real DNA.

Just make minute adjustments on most of the sliders. It'll take a while if you really want to like your character. One of the daily login bonuses now is a pass that lets you change your appearance for free. Just remember that race/gender does have stat differences, but they're minimal so indeed just go with either horns or handlebars, fuck minmaxing.

You only get one Mag for free, so be sure it's good. Try to put every single level into whichever Attack stat you plan on using. Until you can start earning 10* weapons to trade in for Photon Spheres, you want to alternate feeding them two 9* weapons followed by a room item which decreases Dex. You don't want Dex, you will have enough from other sources. If you want to use all three damage types but don't want to drop money for more mags, you do get three free character slots, so you can always do one character for each type.

Remember that /pso2g/ is full of tryhards and attention whores, so just ignore them.
