For ARs, Mattock is incredible for a good portion of the game, though I personally prefer the Prothean rifle until getting the Lancer.

For sniper rifles, Black Widow if you want to just point at things and kill them. My personal favorite is the Indra because it's just an AR that you can put a concentration module on, but that's not for anybody who actually wants to actually snipe things

It takes 600 years to reach Andromeda, and the Reapers wait in deep space for approximately 50,000 years. Why didn't they take a trip to Andromeda, or any other galaxy for that matter, and begin cycles there?

It doesn't seem like a large task for them to spend 1% of their 50,000 year long vacation traveling to a neighboring galaxy to spread their gospel of death and destruction to the native species. If they considered their directive so absolute, why wouldn't they apply it to other areas? Wouldn't they want to deter other galaxies from developing dangerous, galaxy killing machines that could end up at least as strong as the Reapers themselves? Otherwise, those machines could reach the Milky Way and disrupt the cycle that the Reapers have cultivated.

if you main Liara, save up for the Paladin, and just keep her on that. smgs are pretty meh, in my opinion

Even if they want to simply preserve the integrity of the cycle in the Milky Way, it would behoove them to travel to Andromeda to ensure that none are able to challenge their plans. Even if their primary force isn't made for that purpose, what is stopping them from developing a version that CAN undertake such a journey? We know that every Reaper is already unique (Mass Effect 3 can shove it in this regard), and there are different kinds of Reapers for different purposes, as shown on Rannoch and Tuchanka.
