People already know the drop rates in Hearthstone. Knowing that a legendary drops in an average of one pack out of 20 is not going to make anyone quit who hasn't quit already.

What WOULD make people quit is if China implemented what Richard Garfield (creator of Magic) suggested: all these F2P games have to reveal the number of dollars that it costs to buy EVERYTHING in the game. For a normal, non-F2P game this would be base game + all DLC, 100-200 dollars depending on game. For Hearthstone it would be the amount of money you need to get a gold set of every card. That's something like a million dollars.

It's honestly pretty funny. Kripp plays this game like 2 jobs, with the most profitable way possible, arena. Is the #1 arena player with the most arena wins and winrate average.

He spends like 2000 dollars per expansion and gets a shitton of promotional packs. He even got +40% on the MSOG packs due to the refund, so he got like 600 free packs. And he isn't even close to getting a full golden collection. With every expansion his goal is further away.

The Deathrattle animation could a splash (like sleep with the fishes) and a Piranha jumping up and the settling on the board ala Ragnaros.

I'm gonna try to give serious answers, though I honestly, truly, deeply think Hearthstone is terrible right now and new F2P players should not even bother coming in. (Do yourself a favor and check out Eternal, Magic Duels, Shadowverse, Gwent, all of which are similar games and much more F2P friendly.)

As a new player you should first play through the tutorial bullshit and get what few measly free packs Blizzard has decided to give you and open them. These will inform what you CAN play. Then, whatever you opened, you should play Pirate Warrior because it's the only deck that makes sense right now and other than Patches, is relatively cheap to craft. Netdeck a list, craft what commons you need for it, you probably won't have dust for Patches which is a huge problem but even without it Pirate Warrior is kind of nuts. Don't craft ANYTHING that's not used in Pirate Warrior because you won't afford it.

Dust:
ALL golden cards that are not in Pirate Warrior
ALL epics and legendaries that are not in Pirate Warrior
Anything else that's not in Pirate Warrior
Save dust until you can craft a Patches.

After doing this, you will gradually start getting wins. You will also be a part of the cancer that's killing the game. Those come hand in hand. It is impossible to play a fun deck and do well, and it is double impossible to craft a fun deck that does well as a F2P player, and triply impossible if you're new on top of that.

Consider playing a lot of arena. If you're good at it, you will make a profit, and the environment will be less horrible than ranked, where you will do pirate mirrors all day everyday.

That is Hearthstone in 2017. That is what you signed up for. These are not jokes or memes, everything I said above is honest advice. Have fun.

I've got a couple epics like Hammer of Twilight for my Shaman, Sleep with the Fishes for my Warrior, and Southsea Captain as a neutral. I also have C'thun, 2 beckoners of evil and 1 disciple of c'thun which I try to combo with Youthful Brewmaster in my priest deck with two Hooded acolytes. Occasionally Greater Healing Potions come to my rescue but my entire priest deck is incredibly unreliable IMO.
I also have Grimestreet Pawnbroker (1 gold 1 reg) and Upgrade on my War, but I don't know if I should play a weapons Warrior or scrap them all because they're shit.
Sort of want to get Renounce Darkness on my warlock to add a little more fun and spontaneity to my games but it's probably a bad idea.
Thoughts? Also sorry if this is too blogposty

Please mind when I say "Open more packs", I specifically mean Classic Packs. Stuff will be rotating out soon, and their power will increase come the next expansion. Things should be easier for you to get a grasp on things then.

Putting together a cheapo Midrange Shaman deck with cards like Totem Golem, Fire Elemental, Bloodlust, a few C'Thun cards (because why the hell not, it's your only wincon atm) and that Twilight Hammer should yield some mild success at the lower ranks, which will in turn become easier as the month progresses and the better players eventually find their way back to their home ranks of 10+.

Do not craft ANYTHING. Blizzard is doing a balance patch at the end of February. While the main thing on the chopping block is Small Time Buccaneer, there could be others, and the future viability of pirates is unknown.

Just play casual. Do your daily quests (always reroll 40s, never do a 40 quest intentionally unless you've queued up 3 of them and have no choice). Buy classic packs with the gold you get.

The priority bug was fixed ages ago. Duels is buggy in general, however it's IMO the straight up best F2P card game right now both in mechanics and F2P viability. I got a full collection of Duels cards in a matter of months while I haven't come even close to completing a single expansion in HS.

Hex is a bad game to get into if you want multiplayer because it's VERY F2P unfriendly for multiplayer. However, it has the best single player mode of all of these games so it's worth checking out for that. (It's kind of a pseudo-RPG thing where you travel around a map fighting gimmick special rules battles and gradually build up a PVE collection, pretty neat.)

He was joking. Kraag isn't used in most lists and regular Buccaneer (not Small-Time Buccaneer) is only used in pirate Rogue. Neither of those affects Pirate Warrior. Warrior is safe unless Brode gives in and nerfs STB (which he's already said he doesn't want to do) or something weird happens in the next expansion that makes pirates no longer insane.

If you want to play it safe you can wait until the next set comes out and see how the meta develops, however you won't be winning many games before that.

Actually I had a full collection being f2p for the first 3 sets but I quit because the priority bug and phase skipping was complete game breaking trash. People are still complaining about it as of the most recent update (about a month ago) which means it was never fixed. Most likely everyone who isn't a complete shitter (like you) already quit the game a year ago, so you don't see anyone discussing the issue, because the only people left playing are idiots who enjoy playing "Magic" in an environment that automatically skips phases and response windows for you. The bug you're bitching about was fixed ALMOST A YEAR AGO. It's not there anymore. It hasn't been there for ages. For those of you who don't know what this asshole is talking about, Duels introduced a poorly designed feature (not a bug since it was intentional, but people call it a bug since it was incredibly annoying) where if the game thought you had no sorcery-speed cards left to play, it skipped automatically to the next phase of the turn. This was an attempt to speed up the game, but it caused all sorts of problems, people complained about it and it was reversed. It was fixed within like a fucking month. This fucking douche is complaining about it a year later and thinks forum posts are proof of something when anyone can play one match and instantly see it doesn't do that anymore.

Telling people to play arena for filling their collection is an awful idea. The reality is that the average win rate for MOST people (especially new players) is going to be that low. If you've ever been to high ranks in arena, you know that it has little to do with skill and more to do with deck quality (aka rng). Even Kripp, whos literal job is arena, often gets only 5 or 6 wins. In order to actually PROFIT (remember, you don't want to just break even) you need a minimum of 5 wins. Thats to see just slight profit. To guarantee your full gold back, you need 7 wins. Think of how many new players are getting 5 wins, let alone 7.
If you enjoy arena, fine. But if you just want to play it to build up your collection, your in for a rude awakening.
This also ignores the fact you are limited to the most recent expansion for your guaranteed pack.

They just need to give more free packs from the fucking start. As it stands, the kikery and shit meta make this a garbage game to get into.

I have two meta complete decks. Miracle rogue and pirate warrior. Miracle rogue is fun in theory, but it gets regularly shit on because it's so draw dependent. Pirate warrior is way more consistent, has a higher win rate and makes climbing ranked much faster but it's completely brain dead. And climbing playing ranked doesn't make any sense anyway because the rewards are so ridiculously bad. Nothing is fun anymore. And the developers aren't doing anything either. It's going to be like this forever. Fuck this game.

I'm playing in the Tespa collegiate tournament, which uses self ban conquest format aka: only slightly better than ladder: the format. Just steamrolled the opposing team 3-0 in a Bo5 match playing Renolock, Aggro Shaman, and Reno Freeze Mage, and 2 of these were control mirrors. Say what you will about how cancer aggro is (because it is, when you can have turn 4 lethal anyways), but control mirrors are some of the most fun and skill testing matchups in this game.

Pally doesn't have a dead by turn 6 deck or access to Kazakus/Jades.

Goons buffs are slow to get started and you can't really put much pressure if you focus on the Pally Removal Suite of 2x Equality, 2x Consecration, 2x Wild Pyro and 2x Doomsayer. Your late game is trounced by Jade and Reno decks and your midrange is a joke compared to Shaman. You can try a hyper aggro buff deck with argents, small time recruiters and Leeroy but everyone else does aggro better. Your Triclass Lego is hot piss that does nothing useful the turn is played unless you hoarded 1 or 2 mana minions past turn 7.

Buffs reveal your hand state to your opponent. They know if you might have removal/spells or all minions and can play around that.

Buffs are kinda sick with Murlocs but again... Kazakus Polymorph just invalidates your win con (invalidates buff N'Zoth too) and aggro/midrange kills you before you can Finja summon on turn 6/7 or live to turn 10 for the first Anyfin.

If we we're regular reno mage, you'd be right, but the freeze version of reno mage opts out of stuff like CRYSTALLLS and tome for a solia pyroblast combo as well as stuff like ice lance and thaurissan to makes sure you can burst them down after alextraza. You're right about the way most reno matchups play out though; the only reason we won with renolock vs reno mage is because we dirty ratted his kazakus which meant he couldn't hope to outvalue us.

druid beats control decks with golems
rogue is ok right now because it's pretty fast class
shaman is master of all trades now
goons are complete failure and all it's class are suffering. Warrior is very versatile, so he is not tier one but every expansion he finds his niche.
