Man, there's a lot of shitty things about gen, but I at least appreciate the fact that resource points are plentiful so I can stay stocked with things like psychoserum and ammo combos mats easily, that you can multiply fish and that you can unequip all decorations automatically instead of hunting for them in your box.

Now if only I could multiply or purchase dash extracts instead of having a 1 in 40 chance per hunt that a gypceros will appear in meownster hunters so I can get maybe 8 dash juices tops using an entire team of max-enthusiasm support cats.

SW works very well with weapons with very high natural affinity like nargacuga LS and Silverwind SA.

With Narga LS, I end up at 70% affinity and with Silverwind SA, I end up with 75% affinity before WE.

I run Silverwind Soul, Evade Extend, Attack up Small and Crit Boost with Silverwind SA. Demon Riot, Energy Charge and Absolute Readiness. Never run out of white.

Except absolute evasion alone is enough to cover any positioning issue you might have with even Switch Axe.

From what I've read it isn't really, in fact I've heard the reason daora's gun is favoured over amatsu's is that it can both siege pierce 1 and has a large clip for the other pierces. I don't mind sieging personally though, when it works right hunkering down in front of a monster and being basically safe because it staggers every time it tries to hit you feels good. Considering making mizu's gun for non-siege pierce shenanigans though.

It depends on the weapon, really. For something like GS, it's a breeze to get better than crafted. For something like SnS or DB, it's an exercise in frustration if you're trying to get a specific element or status but you still get something good somewhat reliably. For something like HBG, "better than crafted" means pretty much "perfect in every way". I was in that latter camp.

You're right about gunner weaps though, HBG/LBG especially are painful. I have a bow that would be better than kama against monsters that take damage from water... If it had power shot (it has blast arc).

Anyone can post what HBG in gen is considered good/best? I was using Mizu HBG when X came in Japan but lost track what people are considering best pierce now. I was using evade extender like playstyle with adept.

So what are people using now? Any skill recommendation? I guess pierce up and attack/CE boosting skills are a must.

Just noticed that silverwind armor really has low def, haven't it? Hellblade set could almost reach 500 def at level 6, but silverwind got only 370 def even with charm+talon.

Daora Grande is the best Pierce gun, and the best gun in general. If Normal is desired instead, you use La Foi.
The general playstyle is to just park yourself in siege as much as possible during the hunt, and just adept dodge into attacks, power load, and go back into siege. Do not bother with the personal arts, just use Absolute Readiness.
Skills are Crit Boost, CE+2, and Weakness Exploit, and either Pierce Up or Normal Up depending on your gun.

Mizu is the best non-siege pierce gun. Daora is pretty good for both siege and non-siege, and the best pierce 1 siege gun (meaning more of the hits will proc WE on weakspots). Best pure siege non-WE pierce gun is amatsu's, and I'm pretty sure that would be the hame gun if there was anything worth hameing. The best normal and I think pellet HBG is shaggy's.

Not sure about elements, but mizu seems extremely good for water too; LBG is, as ever, generally better for element due to low damage reduction with RF and ammo conservation (especially with the internal pierce elemental ammos, which have limited inventories). If you're element gunning, regardless of which type of BG you use, remember that internal ammos (including element lv2 and pierce element) are boosted by a fantastic 20% by trueshot up.

Load Gunpowder is worse DPS than just keeping on shooting. Since the optimal way to play HBG is to siege as much as possible, its ability to cancel the reload animation is of no value, so the extra 10% power it gives your shots is not worth the 4 seconds of animation it takes. And since the most used shots with HBG are the cheap and plentiful to combine Normal and Pierce shots, conserving ammo isn't really a worthy benefit either.

Oh yeah, and it's worth keeping in mind that (again, as it has always been) these guns have additional benefits besides raw damage (which might make you prefer a gun that isn't one of those I listed, as well). Amatsu's for instance has excellent normal clips for non-siege, water and thunder ammo which covers the weaknesses of a lot of monsters (decent clips of both, siege of water), demon armor s which boosts attack and defence of players you shoot and long s which is good for bringing down monsters that try to fly away. That versatility is a lot of the reason it's my favourite gun in Gen (so far, I haven't tried them all obviously).

Daora grande can crouchfire both water and freeze, and has access to piercing freeze and wyvernfire. WF gets poor DPS but it's better than GL WF because you can use it whenever and aim it up, and it's also attached to an actual weapon and not a toy.

Mizu's has piercing water 1 and 2, also good of course.

Dmg wise the best styles would be striker for 5% dmg boost in axe form and adept for the situational monster where adept could be abused.
Skills are situational, you can go with the meta crit set or use one that boosts raw attack etc. For example a ta favorite is att up L, blunt, we, attilary novice. If you are not one who goes for minmax just use whatever. To combos, you can only get the red shield buff by canceling an aed from axe mode, you do not have accsess to red from sword and shield mode. Another thing is that you cannot aed after a gp. Impact phials still best phials.
