I have two questions /ng/.

What spells and ninjutsu are must have? Is it personal preference or have people figured out the 'best' shit?

I have fairly spread out stats because I can't decide on just one or two I like. Is this viable? I don't mind being slightly weaker than min max status but noone likes being way weak so. My shit is like 15 ki and hp stat 10 strength and skill and the rest is 6.

I'm thinking of trying this game, was going to get For Honor, but after playing Open Beta, I'd rather not. How is this game?

Sloth is easy mode. Throw in carnage talisman and weakness talisman with a elemental weapon (like raikiri) and talisman (water works good) and you'll have stunlock on most bosses. Kekkai talisman lets you go balls to the walls and not worry about ki pulsing.

Anything that deals damage is worthless if you dont go deep on dex/magic
Magic has by far more buffs/debuffs that require no stats
For ninjutsu, if you have no or low dex, you're really only looking at the scrolls that prevent death and makibishi

It's good stuff. It's the same genre as Souls obviously but it's different enough to stand on it's own.

Is elemental damage reduction while guarding any good? It sounds useless but it's purple.

Reminder that you can extend a status proc by continuing to hit enemies with that element.

So if you poison or light someone on fire, you can continue to hit them with poison or fire to extend the duration of the proc.

Source: If you poison Hanzo during the adept test with shuriken, the poison wears off pretty fast. But if you poison your sword and keep hitting him, the poison will linger until you stop making contact.

Combat is a huge improvement over souls.
Enemy diversity is kind of lacking compared to souls.
Bosses are very varied, till suddenly they ran out of ideas I guess and every boss after a certain point becomes "guy with sword" "guy with sword who throws stuff."
Loot grinding is pretty easy actually, never feels too hard and you can always just get baller ass shit from revenants.

Overall I'd say it's worth it, It's good.

Nioh is pretty good and if you have a favorite weapon type/stance you like to use then I have good news
It's all viable

Some later magic/ninjutsu is really overpowered so if you don't want something like that on your mind then just be aware of that

Combat is fun, the game needs some more enemy variety though

If you like Souls at all then Nioh will have some things you like from it.
It does its own thing enough that it won't feel exactly the same either, but you can play it like Souls if you wanted to as well

Since it is hard to figure out what shit does without using it here is how each one works.

Kato: Just increases damage. Hit harder and more often.
Hi-nezumi: Mostly specialised in magic use, has weird bonuses to stealth as well for some reason.
Enko: Good for breaking enemies who block a lot and then doing more damage to them when staggered.
Suzaku: Makes you immortal (in theory). Auto triggers living weapon if you die and lets you generate more amrita to last longer in living weapon (which it is already exceptional at).
Isonade: Good for people who want to play careful. Lets you see enemies and you heal after killing them (with melee).
Mizuchi: Grinding spirit. Earn more gold and amrita and see treasure on the map.
Usura-hicho: Mixed bag. Defensively good vs yokai.
Genbu: Makes you a magic tank. You get tanky as fuck from magic and can always cast it and it is stronger.
Saoirse: Some kind of play it safe guardian. You get to see enemies and lose less for dying.
Paired Raiken: Balanced, has bonuses to everything.
Gyokuto: Defensive pet, become a ninja and never get hit, good for grinding items since it charges living weapon so damned fast.
Kara-jishi: For "skilled" people. The more you understand how weapon skills work and make use of them, the more you get out of this spirit.
Atlas Bear: Stupidly offensive. I think the idea is you go balls to the wall and don't care what happens.
Daiba-washi: Balanced. Has a bit of everything.
Aya-komori: "Assassin" type spirit. You're suppose to go around sneak attacking shit to death.
Yatagarasu: Specialises in ranged weapons.
Izuna: Strange as fuck, not sure what the purpose of this one was, Use strong attacks with wind element weapons or something?
Tengen Kujaku: Does everything really well. Probably suppose to be the OP super spirit.
Fuse-ushi: For people who guard a lot.
Itokuri: Item grinding pet.
Narikama Tanuki: For shitters who can't play very well.
Shinka: Fairly balanced.

Honestly I think the cast speed one is better unless you want to wear nothing but onmyo hats forever. You only have 7 item slots to work with, and if you're going Onmyo, two of those are always going to be Guardians and Sloth's unless you really hate using the two best spells in the game, or you just happen to be using a spirit with a really shitty Guardian cast.

I just started the defiled castle mission where I'm infiltrating Edo Castle. Is there not a cinematic beforehand? I just kind of plopped down some hole without any explanation.

Just a quick list, not tested damage and a few I've not had any chance to test.

Kato: Medium range projectile.
Hi-nezumi: Drops 3 bombs that explode on contact or after a set time.
Enko: Medium range, triggers 3 explosions.
Suzaku: Bird flies around you a few times then slams into the ground.
Isonade: Shark swims around you for a while hitting enemies then finishes with one last hit.
Mizuchi: Dragon swims forwards a short distance in a randomish pattern. Very strong knockdown effect.
Usura-hicho: Leaves a swarm of butterflies that hurt/inflict status effect on enemies who walk into them.
Genbu: Turtle flies out a short distance and fires jets of water that knock enemies up.
Paired Raiken: Dog flies forwards a short distance, if it hits they combo enemies with tons of hits.
Gyokuto: Rabbit leaps around in a circle leaving balls of lightning, damaging and inflicting status effect on enemies who walk on them.
Atlas Bear: Bear jumps a short distance forwards and then shoots out a laser.
Daiba-washi: Bird flies around you creating a hurricane.
Aya-komori: Bat flies forwards really fast, good knockdown on enemies it hits.
Izuna: Fires 3 foxes in a random spread, they travel a medium distance.
Fuse-ushi: Bull charges forwards a long distance.
Itokuri: Spider jumps randomly in front of you leaving patches behind that inflict status effect.
Narikama Tanuki: Fires tanuki forwards, if it connects a larger one drops down on the hit enemy.

the speed itself isn't that much different, but the big thing about light armor is how you basically don't consume any ki, that's why red demon armor is so OP with its ki regen, because its like you almost have infinite ki at all times unless you get broke or standing in a yokai zone

Which control scheme is objectively the best?

Just got some dual katana that have some purple text saying they have scaling to onmyou magic. Pressing help and hovering over says they have scaling with magic and I tested this and they do not.

Does anyone know what the fuck they do? The text is different from all other additional stat scaling I've seen.

It really isn't especially when you realize the lighter the gear the better ki rolls you can get. Light armor you end up regening ki faster than you can put it out so 2kats suddenly become non-stop kicks, punishes, iai's, and randoms and MAYBE one pulse on shit like 3 kelley.
Heavy can't get past 70% and you have to dump a LOT of damage potential through statpoints to keep it in B agility.

I tried Genbu myself, it didn't seem to do much of note. Paired Raiken though are fucking ridiculous. Unless anything-Boss, oni, whatever-Is immune to lightening it'll put the slow status effect on them and from there you're free to buttblast any enemy. It's basically another Sloth talisman.

Only things it doesn't work on seems to be Nobunaga (who has huge ele resists), Orochi, Nue, and Kelly. And thats probably because those fucks all have huge resists to every element except Nue, who is obviously high lightning res.

Paired Raiken are definitely a top tier Guardian for Onmyo due to it's talisman attack being fucking outrageously good. The regular Raiken is also good for damn near everyone since it has such universally applicable buffs.

It's an A in "Onmyou MAGIC DAMAGE BONUS" and the help text says "Increases damage in proportion to your skill with Onmyou Magic."
From what I have tested. It does not give the weapon any additional scaling. Not with the magic stat or Onmyou power.
It does not give Onmyou power any additional scaling or increase it at all.
It doesn't seem to increase damage of any type of Onmyou magic either.

It's the only weapon I've seen with this stat and I can't figure it out at all. The weapons look pretty cool though. Basically chunky ass broadswords.
